Find Out When You’re Featured on Spotify Podcast Playlists
We’ve launched editorial podcast playlists — and notifications in Spotify for Podcasters to let you know your episodes have been playlisted.
We want Spotify to be the most powerful, intuitive, and valuable place for you to grow an audience for your podcast — whether it’s offering the data you need to understand your listeners, promotional tools to help you develop more fans, or new ways to get discovered by the 250+ million sets of ears on our platform around the world.
Over the past year, that has meant launching the Spotify for Podcasters dashboard with daily streaming data on your show, personalized playlists like Your Daily Podcasts, improved show pages to introduce yourself to listeners, an API so developers can build new experiences around podcasts, and the ability to add podcast episodes to any playlist on Spotify. We were excited to see podcast listening time on Spotify grow by nearly 200% year-over-year in 2019.
Today, we’re announcing the launch of editorial podcast playlists — as well as personalized notifications in Spotify for Podcasters so you know when your episode has been playlisted. Of course, editorial playlists are quite familiar to music listeners on Spotify, where playlists like RapCaviar, Hot Country, and ¡Viva Latino! have inspired listeners to find new artists and helped artists to find new audiences. Now, we’re excited to start to bring that experience with music discovery to the podcast space and help your best episodes get discovered by listeners.
Our editors are listening to podcasts 24-7 to curate engaging playlists for listeners around the world to dive into. When your episode gets playlisted, we know it’s important for you to understand where new listeners might be coming from — and to celebrate with your fans and collaborators.
That’s why we built playlist notifications into Spotify for Podcasters. All you have to do is log-in to your dashboard (or claim your profile if you don’t yet have an account) — and you’ll see a notification on your homepage. If you have access to multiple shows as a podcaster or an employee at a podcast network, we’ll aggregate notifications across your shows. Each notification links to the editorial playlist, so you can check it out.
You can read more about the new editorial playlists on For the Record, but we wanted to share a bit more about the playlists you might be featured on.
Today, we’re launching over a dozen new editorial podcast playlists each in Brazil, Germany, Mexico, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and the United States — with more countries and playlists coming soon. Most of the playlists are specific to each country, but there are three flagship playlists you’ll see in each:
Best Podcasts of the Week: The genre-spanning Best Podcasts of the Week showcases the freshest, most popular, and most talked-about episodes in our library for that week. It will update every Tuesday.
Brain Snacks: The episodes selected for this playlist will all feature intriguing trivia, buzzy information, or quick-hitting news insights, delivered in manageable, bite-sized packages.
Crime Scene: True crime stories soar in the podcast format. Crime Scene will feature the best and most riveting episodes in the space. This playlist gives listeners a bird’s eye view of what’s moving the needle in the true crime category.
Examples of country-specific playlists include: the football podcast collection “Goal!” out of the UK, Sweden’s global history and trivia-obsessed “Engelska poddar att ha koll på” (Podcast Essentials), Brazil’s personal-finance-focused “Investindo sua Grana,” Mexico’s parenting guide “Los Padres más Padres” (The Coolest Parents), Germany’s "Sport, Sport, Sport" covering all-things sports, from football to darts, and the U.S.’s “Real People, Real Stories,” which will focus on gripping personal stories.
Today’s announcement just represents a starting point — we expect our playlists to evolve, improve, and expand as we better understand listener engagement and podcaster response to them. Want to see all the playlists in your country? Open Spotify’s search tab, tap Podcasts, and then tap Podcast Playlists. Let us know what other playlists you want to see on Twitter.
