Bible Verse of the Day | Deuteronomy 6:21b | A verse about going deeper in how we relate to everything

Welcome to Bible verse of the day. I am Reverend Joseph Sanford coming to you on May 22 and we are wrapping up the big 10 from Deuteronomy chapter 6 and so we turn to verse 21 part B neither shall you desire your neighbors house or field or slave, or ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor so we find the verse about not stealing this takes it a step further deeper we shouldn’t even desire to have what belongs to someone else just even desiring it takes us down the wrong path. It starts to break down the respect the honor, and the relationship we have with other people it starts to break down the right relationship we have with stuff. It starts to break down our ability to be grateful for what it is we have because we start to worry about what we don’t or we start to worry about with someone else as we think that maybe we should have it more than them. You can see how this begins to deteriorate things immediately and so let us get to the room out of the matter. Let’s keep our eyes fixed on where they should be.

Bible Verse of the Day | Deuteronomy 6:21a | A verse about other people's relationships

Welcome to Bible verse of the day. I am Reverend Joseph Sanford coming to you on May 19 and we are continuing getting close to the end of the big 10 and Deuteronomy so we turned chapter 6 verse 21 part a neither shall you covet your neighbors wife something interesting happens in Deuteronomy here we’re just doing part part a of what we call verse 21. In the Exodus version. This covering verse starts with neighbors property and then lists the elements of property. The wife being included Deuteronomy seems to have taken a step forward it’s written later, but it’s telling the 10 Commandments in a new way suddenly the wife and covering a neighbor’s wife or spouse ends up as its own commandment and so we see a step forward and what a wonderful thing we need to acknowledge. In our scripture there are steps forward we can track them you can even see how Jesus carries it even further Paul even further and today we’re still on that same trajectory. So let’s honor the relationships that are already in place between our neighbors. Let’s honor them for all they are.

Bible Verse of the Day | Deuteronomy 6:20 | A verse about honesty

Welcome to Bible verse of the day. I am Reverend Joseph Sanford coming to you on May 17 to continue the commandments from Deuteronomy return to chapter 6 and we read verse 20 and it says neither shall you bear false witness against your neighbor so from peoples bodies to our own body to our stuff and now it’s about reputation. This comes from a scene in a quart room, right bearing false witness that’s got its history there but let’s just talked about what it is. Wine has been dishonest. It’s about representing something that you shouldn’t represent it’s misrepresenting the truth. It’s telling a story that isn’t right it isn’t accurate. Maybe we don’t even know maybe we’re not even sure what the truth is, I think that’s more of our problem. Today is we’re so ready to pass along information and to tell stories into judge without fully knowing, and we presented it as if it is truth, so what does honor our neighbors and their reputation and their story let us not assume that we know better, and if we do know, let’s make sure we tell the truth

Bible Verse of the Day | Deuteronomy 6:19 | A verse about stuff

Welcome to Bible verse of the day. I am Reverend Joseph Sanford coming to you on this 15th day of May as we continue working through the Big Ten as Deuteronomy tells them in chapter 6 today we read verse 19 neither shall you steal. All right, so we’ve covered Commandments about God about parents about bodies, other peoples and being intimate with them and now we get beyond bodies to stuff because we are people of stuff no matter where we are and I’ll say it our culture my country were more obsessed with stuff than probably anywhere else on the planet and it’s not a good thing. We forget that everything we have was given to us we haven’t earned anything we often say that I’ve earned everything that I have no you haven’t you were blessed to be given a body to be given a home to be given the things you were given maybe an education maybe the desire may be the opportunity to be able to do what you do to get stuff other people don’t have it that way. Let’s remember that all of our stuff isn’t really ours and let’s remember to regard to the things that people are stewards of as not ours either

Bible Verse of the Day | Deuteronomy 6:18 | A verse about our own bodies and intimacy

Welcome to Bible verse of the day I’m Reverend Joseph Sanford coming to you on May 12. We’re continuing with the Big Ten the 10 Commandments told and Deuteronomy and we’re continuing in chapter 6 verse 18. Neither shall you commit adultery. We began this list with four commands about how we relate to God and then one about our parents and then we moved to our neighbors just a couple of days ago and now we continue on Committing adultery. That is the most sacred relationship for those of us who are individuals if we’re married that means it’s our significant other if we are single then that means we are thinking about the way we relate to those around us and what is appropriate, and when you relate intimately with someone sexually, it is a different kind of relationship. It implies an involves a vulnerability. You open yourself up to a person you let your guard down and away you don’t do with anybody else we should reserve this kind of commitment for those whom we are married to. This is a sacred relationship in that relationship begins even before we’re married.

Welcome to Bible verse of the day I’m Reverend Joseph Sanford coming to you on the 10th day of the month of May and we’re going to continue with our commandments and Deuteronomy from chapter 6 today we read verse 17 you shall not murder pretty simple commandment, pretty easy to know that there’s there’s no fuzziness around this one is there or maybe there is what is murder some of our translation say you shall not kill us, killing different for murdering what we find is that this specific command reminds us that we are all created in the image of God, and if we treat any person differently than that, then we are ignoring who they are who they were created to be now they may not be the kind of people we think they should be they may be doing terrible things But do they still possess the image of God and that is that for us to say, are we the judge are we determined from that understanding completely to the point where we feel it’s OK to end a life I think it’s pretty clear as the first commandment about how we relate to our neighbors, the answer is no

Bible Verse of the Day | Deuteronomy 6:16 | A verse about honor

Welcome to Bible verse of the day I’m Reverend Joseph Sanford coming to you on May 8. We are working through the commandments and Deuteronomy chapter 6 and today we continue with verse 16. Honor your father and your mother as the Lord your God commanded you so that your days may be long and that it may go well with you in the land that the Lord your God is giving you the family structure in the family place in Deuteronomy was so important all that you did in this honor Shane culture all that you did either brought honor or shame to the name of your parents, your father specifically, and their culture so everything you did reflected upon them, and we are to remember that everything we do reflects upon God because this whole restructuring, and what we experience through Jesus is that we are now in the house of God we belong to the house of God Christ is our brother. This is why we call God father not because gods of man, but because God is the head of the household in this first century structure, and we find this all the way back, and Deuteronomy, so that all that we do bring honor and glory to God

https://10bibleverses.com/bible-verse-of-the-day/ Welcome to Bible verse of the day. I am Reverend Joseph Sanford. It is May 5 and we’re continuing on with the retelling of the 10 Commandments Deuteronomy chapter 6 today verses 12 and verse 15 observe the sabbath day and keep it holy as the Lord your God, commanded, you remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and the Lord your God brought you out from there with a mighty hand, and an outstretched arm. Therefore, the Lord your God commanded you to keep the sabbath day. This is the one commandment we are terrible at following. When’s the last time you took a full day every single week and did no work we’re always connected to our work or at home catching up on errands doing anything that we need to do because we have a task list Keeping the sabbath has changed with Jesus and Moses day they have been slaves. Their worth was determined by how many bricks they made they didn’t know how to understand their worth when they weren’t producing so this was a way for them to understand their identities not about what they do what they make what they produce their identity their value their worth is in being human beings God’s children let us remember this truth Message brought to you by Rev. https://10bibleverses.com/bible-verse-of-the-day/ Welcome to Bible verse of the day I’m Reverend Joseph Sanford coming to you on the third day of May continuing with Deuteronomy chapter 6 the retelling of the 10 Commandments. We’re going to continue with verse 11 you shall not make wrongful use of the name of the Lord, your God, for the Lord, will not acquit anyone who miss uses the name. We all grew up with an idea of what this commandment was referring to, and frankly what we grew up with, was not correct, was good, not to curse using the name of God, what this means is, we don’t use the name for ourselves or in any other way other than to honor God and so if we think that we’re right about something or what we’re doing as a good and holy thing, we better make sure we know it if we’re going to say that it is God ordained or that God approves it or what we’re doing is in the name or for the love of God People like to use the name of God to further their own well because the name of God brings power it brings authority and if we’re going to assume that we have the right to just decide where God’s authority should be applied we need to be really careful, let us be careful and honorable, with the name of our Lord Message brought to you by Rev. Bible Verse of the Day | A Scripture verse about idols

Welcome to Bible verse of the day I’m Reverend Joseph Sanford coming to you on this first day of the month of May. Can you believe Megan is already here we’re going to continue with this retelling of the 10 Commandments in Deuteronomy chapter 6 verse eight you shall not make for yourself an idol, whether in the form of anything that is in heaven, above, or that is on the Earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth We’re just gonna sidestep the strain structure, and how they thought the world was constructed with a sky on earth and water underneath, and we’re gonna get right to this idea of idols, similar to not having any other gods, what are the idols that we find ourselves, distracted by worshiping, bowing down to many times its ourselves we become the point to focus to the point where we even create images of ourselves for different groups of people don’t worry you’re one version of yourself in front of people at church. You’re a different version of yourself in front of your friends. You’re another version of yourself in front of your significant other or your parents and I wonder why are we crafting any images? Another lots of other images we can spend time on, but let’s start with ourselves.

Bible Verse of the Day | Deuteronomy 6:6-7 | A verse of the first "commandment"

Welcome to Bible verse of the day I’m Reverend Joseph Sanford. It is April twenty eighth and we’re gonna spend some time in the book of Deuteronomy and everyone said ye right we’re gonna start with chapter six verses six through seven. I am the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt out of the house of slavery you shall have no other gods before me. This is the beginning the retelling of the 10 Commandments as we have come to know them there are 613 Commandments but these of the 10 Moses received Deuteronomy presents them with some slight twists. We’re not gonna focus on that so much but let’s start with that God is the savior of the rescue or the redeemer. God is in charge God is all powerful. God is God we should have no other gods before God, and one very few of us find attempting to worship other gods there are other things that we do worship in gods making it clear there are other things you can give your attention to that you can even devote yourself to and way, but it better not come ahead of me, so where is it in your life that it’s time to revisit who is number one

Bible Verse of the Day | Matthew 28:19-20 | A verse about spreading the good news

Welcome to Bible verse of the day I’m Reverend Joseph Sanford. It is April 26 and we’re gonna turn to the very last verses of the gospel. We call Matthew and the 28th chapter hero 19 through 20. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the father, and of the son, and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you and remember I am with you always to the end of the age is final instructions are a transition. For the disciples, they’re not following Jesus anymore they’re not gonna be together in one place they are now to go and spread the good news in this word for baptize our sacrament is amazing symbolizing rebirth in our membership in the church, but the word baptizing, it means soak to soak them in the name of the father and of the son of the holy spirit. What would it look like if we lived our lives in such a way that people felt soaked by the way of Jesus Christ, that we obeyed all the commandments that we lived as he instructed and we remembered at all times he is always with us.

Bible Verse of the Day | Romans 12:2 | A verse about God's will for us

Welcome to Bible verse of the day. I am Reverend Joseph Sanford. It is April 24 and we’re going to turn to a letter that Paul wrote. We call it Romans we’re going to turn to chapter 12 and we’re going to hear from verse two do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of the mind so that you may discern what is the will of God what is good and acceptable and perfect. Paul is calling out to the people who are struggling to get along. it’s a group of Jewish Christians and a group of Gentile Christians and they don’t mix well. We can identify with division among the ranks can’t wait. Paul is saying look you all are fighting the same fight that’s being fought everywhere don’t be like that we know exactly what Paul saying everywhere we look there are people divided and it seems to just be getting worse doesn’t it we’re tired of it, and if we’re honest, sometimes we’re joining in. Paul would say look it’s hard it’s hard when you don’t agree when you don’t get along, but it’s the worlds way to turn against one another to be divided into be opponents of one another it’s an entirely different way when it comes to the world of God.

Welcome to Bible verse of the day. I am Reverend Joseph Sanford coming to you on the 21st day of April and we’re going to turn to the letter that we call Hebrews. We’re going to read from chapter 11 we’re gonna start at verse one now faith is the assurance of things hoped, for the conviction of things not seen we struggle with faith. Faith is not the things that we know about the things we can see and have evidence for faith lies beyond that and that’s hard. We are empirical people we want to see the facts we want to see the evidence we want to know something is there for our foot to land on before we take the step but often times God is leading us and teaching us by showing us may be the next step but often times just calling us to step into trust and I don’t know where you might be feeling that calling today maybe it’s to connect with someone maybe it’s to address the situation maybe you’re thinking about a movie a big change maybe you’re thinking about a relationship an opportunity something is before you look for signs sure but it is gonna come down to faith, so let us put our faith in God.

Bible Verse of the Day | Proverbs 3:7-8 | A verse about relying on God

Welcome to Bible verse of the day I’m Reverend Joseph Sanford coming to you on April 19. We’re going to turn back to Proverbs and continue in chapter 3 today we’re going to read both verses seven through eight do not be wise in your own eyes. Fear the Lord, and turn away from evil. It will be a healing for your flesh and a refreshment for your body. We often have this strange thing about wisdom, the more we think we know the less wise that we are seem to be by others, but the more we acknowledge, we don’t know the more wisdom we are sad to have. Why do we get so caught up in thinking we know it that we’re so smart that we’re so right so wise what does it really gain us? Have we perhaps receive our reward when people think we’re smart Maybe we should look to God fear the Lord this respect it’s like standing in front of an ocean standing in front of a powerful animal that can easily trample you. It’s not a fear to be afraid and scared and running and shivering. It’s a fear of respect. We should respect the Lord, and realize the power before us, and then rely on it.

Bible Verse of the Day | Proverbs 3:5-6 | A verse about finding Life Welcome to Bible verse of the day. I am Reverend Joseph Sanford coming to you on Monday, April 17 and we’re gonna turn to the book of proverbs to the third chapter read read verses five and six and they read trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own insight and all your ways acknowledge him and he will make straight your paths. We often think that trust in God it’s just something we do on one day a week or maybe one hour on one day a week or maybe we just trust God when we’re in trouble and we don’t know what else to do, but our paths they are wind either up and down their trouble because we’re human and that’s what we do is Proverbs lifting up that if we just trust in God and every step of the way, even the little things we find that our paths will be straight. It doesn’t mean they’re going to be easy not at all, but it does mean we’re gonna be lead in the way of life because that’s what God wants for you, and for every person who walks this planet, and we learn and grow, and understand what it means to follow in the footsteps of God if we would just trust and acknowledge God, in all we do, we would find life. Bible Verse of the Day | Genesis 1:27 | A verse about Divine Image

Bible Verse of the Day | Genesis 1:27 | A verse about Divine Image
Welcome to Bible verse of the day. I am Reverend Joseph Sanford and it is April 14. We’re going to continue with Genesis chapter 1 today. We read 26 a few days ago and now we’re going to read verse 27 so God created humans and God‘s image in the image of God, they were created, male and female God created them This beautiful triplet gives us a source of sense and idea of God’s identity, and how both male and female is how all genders all people are made up of the image of God. God is both. It’s the same phrase repeated three times God created people in the image of God people were created, male and female. God created people because male and female is the image of God and that may not be what we have grown up with. It all comes from God and we are all a part of the image of God. We are all created equally we are all created in God’s likeness. We are all carrying the image of God. The dignity of God is with us also. Let us turn to one another and treat each other accordingly.

Bible Verse of the Day | Genesis 1:26 | A verse about our purpose

Bible Verse of the Day | Genesis 1:26 | A verse about our purpose Welcome to Bible verse of the day. I am Reverend Joseph Sanford coming to you on April 12 is beautiful Wednesday and we’re going to go back to the beginning genesis one and we’re going to go to verse 26 and it reads and God said what us make humans in our image, according to our likeness, and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the air and over the cattle and over all the wild animals of the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the Earth, God speaks things into existence. This comes on day six of creation, and God is constructing a cosmic temple and I know that may sound weird, but that’s what this is a Temple’s being constructed it it is modeled after the creation of the tabernacle in the last part of exodus in the final piece once everything‘s been created as for the image of God to be placed like an image is placed a statue in a temple. We are the image of God we are to have dominion to take charge to be stewards over the earth and all the things in it we are to treat them as God would treat them. We are to be creators with God and this is our purpose. Message brought to you by Rev. Bible Verse of the Day | John 20:1 | A verse about a new beginning

Bible Verse of the Day | John 20:1 | A verse about a new beginning Welcome to Bible verse of the day I’m Reverend Joseph Sanford coming to you April 10 Monday Easter has arrived and we are going to read from the gospel. We called John chapter 20 and we’re gonna begin with the very first verse early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb, and saw that the stone had been removed from the tomb. We celebrated the scene yesterday, but it’s good for us to continue to think about it. Easter is a season it last from now until May 28 on Pentecost. If you follow the liturgical calendar if you don’t, it’s always good to celebrate Easter beyond just Sunday. This is the passage that leads us from that garden tomb early on the first day of the week this is symbolic back in Genesis. The new week has begun. If you go back to Genesis one that original week never ended there was no evening and morning in the seventh day and we can think about all the symbolism and how the gospel writer picks that up for what it means today that the new creation has begun in Christ when he emerge from that tomb, it wasn’t just a new body. It was a new kingdom, a new world and a new life for us all Message brought to you by Rev. Bible Verse of the Day | John 19:41 | A verse about new birth from death

Welcome to Bible verse of the day. I’m Reverend Joseph Sanford and it is good Friday a holy week today we’re gonna read from our gospel that we called John from the 19th chapter. We’re going to read the 41st verse now there was a garden in the place where he was crucified, and in the Garden, there was a new tomb, in which no one had ever been laid The gospel we call John waves in creation from the very beginning of the entire prologue of the gospel. We are brought back to Genesis, so when we come to this part, this unique detail what we learn is that Jesus body is in a garden and a brand new tomb what we’re gonna learn in a few days is on the first day of the new week people rise up once again, the humanity, Christ, the new birth, the new way, originates back in the garden, one human being to begin the new creation, the kingdom of God, but for today, we remember the quiet, the stillness, the darkness, and the pain of death and the Garden tomb

Bible Verse of the Day | Matthew 25:53-54 | A verse about Jesus' task

Welcome to Bible verse of the day. I am Reverend Joseph Sanford coming to you and this holy week April 5 we’re going to turn to our gospel that we call Matthew we’re going to read from chapter 25 verses 53 to 54 think that I cannot appeal to my father and he will at once send me more than 12 legions of angels, but how then with the Scriptures be fulfilled which say it must happen in this way Jesus knows everything that’s happening is not what anyone wants but it is what we need and why we struggle to understand that this week. Let’s remember that he could’ve called everything to his defense but that’s not the way we can only be redeemed Israel could only be forgiven if he excepted all the violence all the deceit, all the destruction upon himself, only responding with love and prayer, the other kingdoms of the world they can look pretty inhumane. They can look pretty distorted and ugly, and they can do a lot of vicious damage. We can turn to Daniel to see the images of the kingdoms of the world, but God‘s kingdom looks like a human being being humane loving. This is our Christ.

Bible Verse of the Day | Matthew 21:5 | A verse about our king coming

Welcome to Bible verse of the day. I am Reverend Joseph Sanford coming to you on April 3 the day after Palm Sunday and as we get into this holy week, we’re gonna start this week off with the gospel recall Matthew chapter 21 verse five tell the daughter of Zion look, your king is coming to you, humble, and mounted on a donkey on a colt, the fall of a donkey Palm Sunday is one of triumphs we celebrate we dance we wave palms we sing loud, but we also know what’s coming is prophecy, quoted by the gospel writer refers to the coming of the king, the good king, the messiah the one meant to come in and redeem Israel to bring everything back to write standing with God, and this King is not coming on the seat of power and might I mean he is but not the kind of might’ve power we picture instead it’s humility it’s gentleness. It’s peace and so while we often look for all the wrong things in the wrong places, Christ comes anyway and if even just for a moment, we see it for what it is right and pure and true and we celebrate.

Bible Verse of the Day | Isaiah 41:10 | A verse about hope

Welcome to Bible verse of the day. I am Reverend Joseph Sanford coming to you on March 29 and we’re going to turn to the prophet that we call Isaiah chapter 41 and we’re gonna read verse 10 do not fear for I am with you do not be afraid for I am your God I will strengthen you. I will help you I will uphold you with my victorious right hand. I’m not sure what the Salmas was going through exactly but we can be pretty sure it was bad they were hanging their head. Maybe they had lost hope there was fear there was weakness, and we find this comforting word of God that says none of those ways of looking at the situation are appropriate because I am your God I am yours I belong to you and you belong to me, and if we belong to God and God belongs to us what have we to fear we might be facing difficult moments this week we might be facing the worst of circumstances there might be tragedy there might even be death, but we have God our God, who has proved to us in Jesus Christ, that even the worst life has to throw at us is nothing compared to the power of God

Bible Verse of the Day | 1 Corinthians 13:8 | A verse about love eternal

Bible Verse of the Day | 1 Corinthians 13:8 | A verse about love eternal

Welcome to Bible verse of the day I’m Reverend Joseph Sanford coming to you on March 27 as we conclude our focus on first Corinthians chapter 13 verse eight, this beautiful letter of Paul to the church. It reads love, never ends, but as for prophecies, they will come to an end ask for tongues, they will cease ask for knowledge it will come to an end, I don’t know why as people of the church as Christians we can’t help but look at others with a critical eye, especially those who are part of the church to or constantly looking and straining critiquing about what they believe and how they say it, and we end up becoming each other’s own worst enemy if we’re honest and clergy are no exception we’re always evaluating and thinking about how we wouldn’t say it or think it or present it better and maybe that’s just me, but all this knowledge all these ways of trying to improve and be better and be successful it’s all temporary if we have the gift of prophecy if we have the gift of tongues, if we have the gift of knowledge, they will all come to an end so let’s stop giving them all of our energy in Heart and instead focus on the one thing that doesn’t… LOVE

Bible Verse of the Day | Welcome to Bible verse of the day. I am Reverend Joseph Sanford coming to you on March 24 and we are in chapter 13 of our letter that we call first Corinthians a letter from Paul to a church and struggle and so let’s continue with verse seven love, bares, all things believes all things hopes all things endures all things All is lifting up love above anything else and he’ll go to clearly say that but we should see that already, in the way that he’s saying that love endures no matter what, and when we give of ourselves for other people when we learn to live like that when we learn to place, the good of others above our own comfort, our own desires, not a way that abuses us or sacrifices us in this kind of negative self defeating way, but rather when we realize that we are part of something much bigger than ourselves, that what we have access to in our love, in our place with Christ as an endless supply of goodness we have a cup that overflows so when we live in the way of love, nothing nothing can tear us down we can bear believe hope, and endure all things

Welcome to Bible verse of the day I’m Reverend Joseph Sanford coming to you on March 20 and we’re going to continue in the love chapter 1st Corinthians chapter 13. We started with verse four. We continue today with verse five and it reads love is not rude. Love does not insist on its own way. Love is not irritable love keeps no record of wrongs it’s agape giving of ourselves for another. We understand it rudeness and in looking at each other with scorn it’s just not part of how we operate when we’re in the mood of love when we’re in the action of love we don’t insist on our own way because it’s not about us it’s about us it’s not love love is not irritable because we have grace and we give space, and we know that people are where they are in their journey whether we like it or not, and how many people give us grace how many people are patient with us. We should keep them in mind as we learn to reflect that way for others. We should keep no record of wrongs. If you’re keeping track then you’re not loving your making it about you and your justice so let us in remember that we find our example in Christ who gives us grace and mercy and love right where we are.

Bible Verse of the Day | 1 Corinthians 13:4 | A verse about love

Welcome to Bible verse of the day. I am Reverend Joseph Sanford coming to you on the March 17 and we are going to spend some time in first Corinthians chapter 13 the love chapter so let’s begin in verse four love is patient love is kind love is not envious or boastful or arrogant. This word love we use that word for all sorts of things or family or friends and are tacos right but the word in scripture is agape it means to give of oneself, for another hint means sacrificing of us for another, and expect nothing in return it only does for another out of our goodness out of our desire to be loving someone we read the love chapter about patience, kindness. It doesn’t envy are both it’s not arrogant. It makes sense that’s what agape is in our perfect example of this kind of love is Jesus Christ, who is garden flashing, so God‘s love Chrysler the spirits love is shown to us in the sacrifice for us, expecting nothing in return Salado us become people who love like our God

Bible Verse of the Day | Psalm 23:5 | A verse about God's protection

Welcome to Bible verse of the day I’m reverend Joseph Sanford coming to you on March 13. We’ve been working our way through the 23rd psalm one of the most famous passages in all of our scripture and we continue today with a verse five you prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil, my cup overflows, one of the most overlooked lines in this poem is the anointing line we’re sheep in the metaphor God is our shepherd, and there is a particular oil that would be put on the sheepshead and a certain time of year when a type of fly would be around bother the sheep and cause all sorts of problems, raise their anxiety and just be a pest and so the shepherd or the ninth or head, which would keep the flies at bay now the sheep receiving the oil they don’t know why they’re receiving that, but they do Have peace. We can take comfort that our God knows what we need, even when we’re unaware that sometimes we receive blessing, and we don’t understand what it is, but we are to trust in our shepherd, that even in the midst of people who might mean to work against us, God prepares a table that we might be in union our cup overflows with our Lord, our good shepherd.

Bible Verse of the Day | Psalm 23:4 | A verse about comfort in hard times

Welcome to Bible verse of the day. I am Reverend Joseph Sanford coming to you on this March 10 and we are continuing in our walk through Psalm 23 and so we continue today with verse four. even though I walk through the darkest valley, I fear no evil for you, or with me your Rod and your staff. They comfort me a voice switches and verse, for God is no longer refer to in third person but in second, because the Psalmist is going through a dark time or has gone through a dark time like many of us have a maybe you’re going through one right now in those rules regulations those parts of the Lord that keep us in line and our heart—our conscience that pulls at us—that rod and that staff in times of darkness comforts us, because we know we have the presence of God with us. We are not promise to be delivered from trials and tribulation. That is not what the scripture says, but it does say nothing can separate us from God’s love, so no matter where you are, and what you are enduring today may you know that the Lord is with you and your heart and you should fear no evil
