(October 19, 2022) Anjelah Johnson-Reyes is a stand up comedian (5 stand up specials and rising), actor (see her IMDB), model, animal lover (mom to doggie Garbanzo), husband lover (married to singer/ songwriter/producer Manwell Reyes), AND you may have seen her viral-video-before-viral-video-was-a-thing "Nail Salon"... In March 2022, Hachete Publishing released her debut autobiography - laugh out loud, tender moments out loud, cringe-because-relatable out loud - "Who Do I Think I Am": Chola Wishes and Caviar Dreams". I picked (read: bought!) my copy at Barnes and Noble Ala Moana Center (so nice the staff!) and after finishing it, I passed it along to my friend's 20-something daughter, who's also a fan. (July 2022) DeAundre' Woods will play "Alexander Hamilton" in the limited Honolulu, Hawaii engagement of "Hamilton". DeAundre' Woods was in Alberta, Canada when (Kathy With a K) talked story with him about the December 2022 through January 2023 run of the Lin-Manuel Miranda musical, "Hamilton". A few takeaways: he has the joy of live performance when he steps on stage; an appreciation for the entire crew and cast mates; family is an important priority; and DeAundre' likes that daily opportunity to learn from his fellow actors. Also: visiting Hawaii before the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown productions for "two weeks"...how gospel and opera have a lot in common...performing in Puerto Rico in 2019 alongside Lin-Manuel Miranda...and food! *There are several official national touring companies under the "Hamilton" banner that includes "Philip", "Angelica", and "And Peggy"; "And Peggy" will be visiting our Oahu shores! (June 2022) Award-winning singer/songwriter John Cruz is living Upcountry Maui these seasons with family and lots of great views, says he! **I went to his Blue Note Hawaii concert on Sunday, June 26, 2022 (he had a two-day/night run). He had seven souls on stage, including his brother Tony (to his right, on stage). It's neat for me to have experienced live what John Cruz has done his whole life...play music, listen to other musicians and singers in real time, jamming, wandering around musically. While he brings the audience in, he's able to live in that space of escape and reality. BRANDON LEAKE won the 2020 "America's Got Talent" season with many "firsts". First spoken word or poet to make the lives. First to win a Golden Buzzer. First to win the season (15!). All the while, the COVID-19 pandemic was new and unknown. Before this, Brandon was creating poetry.
