An increasing number of Australians have a side hustle to cope with the rising costs of living, and more and more it takes an online form.

Whether it’s producing content on YouTube, delivering food via Uber Eats or selling on Etsy, eBay, or Amazon, creating a second income stream has never been easier.

However, the ATO has warned that people earning money from a side hustle are in their crosshairs.

The ATO already collects some seller data from the major platforms like Amazon and eBay, which gives them the ability to cross-check taxpayer’s information to make sure income has been declared and tax paid.
