PART 1: We start off by discussing one of the newest ‘player development’ related books that recently hit the stores, I mean Amazon, a few months ago. I’ll share my specific take on it, and then I will share with you, as objectively as a I can, whether or not I recommend you read it.

PART 2: Secondly, I’ll share with you the key moves to establish effective and efficient baseball player ‘conditioning’, and what I say may surprise some of you.

PART 3: Lastly, we will talk about how to accurately judge/assess hitters, and we get into why most offensive stats are distractions from the most useful statistics. We’ll breakdown how we can see through the clutter and more accurately assess a players offensive contribution to the total number of runs produced.

#29 – #1 BOOK RECOMMENDATION, THE FUTURE OF FRAMING PITCHES, #1 TIP FOR FIRST BASEMEN

EPISODE #29

PART #1: I share my #1 non-fiction book recommendation. This is an author and a book that discusses the biggest game-changer in life, and when the information is applied consistently you’ll optimize yourself as a person, player, coach, etc. Interestingly enough I came across this book after first deeply studying the ‘Zen Master’ himself, Phil Jackson.

PART #2: We analyze the value of ‘pitch framing’ moving forward. We discuss how this skill will likely soon become useless at the pro level, and how that should affect the allocation of ‘framing training’ time for amateur/youth players.

PART #3: We cover the most useful defensive tip for first basemen. This technique will help to prevent more runs than anything else the first baseman can do defensively, and it’s interesting that very few first basemen are taught it.

EPISODE #28   PART 1: We talk about one of the best college baseball coaches ever, and we talk about what we can learn from him to help improve our own coaching game.  This coach’s operating system is what set him apart.  Note, this is not a D1 coach.   PART 2: We’ll highlight the importance of not over-coaching our players current technique, while simultaneously coaching-up their long-term movement quality.   An important 2-pronged paradigm that is needed to win now and win the future.   PART 3: We break down the FIRST BASEMAN’S pre-pitch checklist, plus, we outline the after contact priorities. First base seems to be the most under-coached position on the infield and yet the first baseman is involved in more plays than any other infielder (SS, 2B, and 3B).   8020BASEBALL – Helping coaches & players optimize their game by combining the best of the old-school coaching wisdom with the best recently uncovered baseball knowledge. … Read more...

THE 3 ROOT HITTING PLANS (Audio Article)

EPISDODE #5

This is the audio version of the ‘The 3 Hitting Plans’ article in which we optimize the hitting approach/plan down to the only 3 hitting plans/approaches a hitter needs, and why discuss why choosing the correct one is actually very straightforward. This is a big game-changer within the baseball community, as the Hitting Approach (or as I prefer to call it the Hitting Plan) is very commonly discussed, but rarely in terms of optimization. It’s something that has been passed down over the years yet never fully simplified. Essentially, these 3 plans derive straight from old-school wisdom, but I’ve stripped away the excess to do what should have been done a long time ago and that is to maximize the simplification of the hitter’s PRE-PITCH PLAN.

Also, give a listen to EPISODE #17 ‘THE 3 HITTING PLANS: FIELD MANUAL’ for a more in-depth look.

EPISODE #4

In this episode, we’ll discuss why the pitcher’s foundation is directly responsible for the vast majority of a pitcher’s success. In a baseball world full of arm-care, and arm-strength talk, it’s the legs, hips, and even the torso that have the largest impact on a pitcher’s success and arm-health. This is not to say that many of the arm-strengthening protocols such as Long Toss and Plyo Balls are not helpful, they are, it’s simply that the lower 2/3 of the pitcher’s body, is the dominant influencer when it comes to game-success and arm-health.
This episode keys in on the importance of building the pitcher’s delivery from the ground-up.
