290: Before- and After-School Physical Activity: Programs and Best Practices
I am going to do something a bit different. And, if this works, perhaps this is a good way to summarize some research for shorter podcasts.
This podcast is going to utilize ChatPDF, which is an AI website… chatpdf.com It’s fairly straightforward, you take a PDF, drag and drop it into the website, and then ask the AI questions about the article. I’ll caution you at the start, if you use this, it DOES make errors. I know this since I used my own article and could fact check it as I prepared this podcast, with that said, it’s a great tool to overview articles in my opinion IF you check the facts.
I am using my own article today, here it is if you want to read it:

286: AERA SIG 93 Scholar Lecture by Dr. Ben Dyson
This is the audio from the 2023 AERA SIG 93 Catherine D. Ennis Outstanding Scholar Lecture. The highest award given in the special interest group for PE at the American Educational Research Association each year.
Dr. Ben Dyson gave an in-person lecture in Chicago in April 2023. The audio isn't amazing as I used my cell phone to record it. It particularly loses steam during the questions (if you stick around for those). The introduction is by Dr. Pam Kulinna from Arizona State University. The lecture goes until minute 40, and then questions come up (which are hard to hear).
The next AERA conference is in Philadelphia in April of 2024. 2,000 word abstracts are due mid July 2023. Find out more about our SIG here https://www.aera.net/SIG093/RLIPE-SIG-93 It is a GREAT place to be and to submit your work to.
More information on the award:
Catherine D. Ennis Outstanding Scholar. This award is designed to recognize an outstanding scholar in the field of learning and instruction in physical education. This person’s scholarship has made a significant and consistent impact on the field for at least ten years. This award was re-named for Dr. Catherine D. Ennis in 2018. Dr. Ennis was a longtime member and contributor to SIG 93, and one of the most highly respected scholars in the field of physical education. Dr. Ennis passed away in 2017, and the SIG membership wishes to honor her legacy posthumously.

278: PETE Collaborative: Developing and Sustaining Partnerships in PETE
This is the audio from the March 2023 PETE Collaborative session.
Title: Developing and Sustaining Partnerships in PETE
Whether we are partnering with schools and teachers for research or teaching needs, or joining others in advocacy or other service activities - developing and sustaining partnerships is central to our work. During this PETE Collaborative session, we will learn about various university-involved partnerships and develop strategies so we can continue to develop mutually beneficial partnerships across PETE.

277: Journal Editor Panel from AERA SIG 93 webinar
Title: Editor Insights: A Panel of Physical Education Journal Editors
This is audio from a webinar hosted by AERA SIG 93 Research on Learning and Instruction in Physical Education
Time: March 3rd 2023. Here is the list of editors on the panel.
· Journal of Teaching in Physical Education- Heather Erwin
· Physical Education and Sport Pedagogy- David Kirk
· Quest and Adapted Physical Activity Quarterly- Justin Haegele
· European Physical Education Review- Ken Green
· International Journal of Kinesiology in Higher Education- Jaimie McMullen
Here are the questions we posed to start:
· What are the most common mistakes authors make that lead to extensive revisions or a rejection?
· What constitutes a “Desk Reject” for you/your journal?
· Does your journal have a policy on the use of Artificial Intelligence (e.g., Chat GPT) and it’s use for writing, thought creation, analysis?
· What do you want to see in a “good” journal review?
· What is the process you go through when there are two conflicting reviews (one leans toward accept and another outright rejects)?
· What advice do you have for graduate students and early career researchers who are just beginning to publish articles?

273: AIESEP Connect - Improving the quality of PE teaching by using digital tools
This is the audio from the AIESEP connect from Friday February 10th 2023. This session was an interesting, thought provoking, yet PE practice-oriented session on the topic of improving the quality of PE teaching through digital tools. The session was hosted by Menno Slingerland and the speakers were Kathrin Kohake, Gwen Weeldenburg and Arne Bouten.
Here was the prompt for the session:
All three presenters are involved in projects in which digital media and tools are being developed with the purpose of supporting PE teachers in enhancing their teaching effectiveness and overall teaching quality. Kathrin Kohake will present research on an observation instrument aimed at strengthening pedagogical competences of pre-service PE teachers. Gwen Weeldenburg will present the TARGET tool, a systematically developed interactive tool to support PE teachers in optimizing the PE learning environment. Arne Bouten will present an online tool that analyzes PE teachers’ (de)motivating teaching styles and informs on how to improve on these aspects of teaching.
The presentation format will be short presentations with room for questions and discussion. We hope to welcome you online!
