Alt goth/metal singer-songwriter Mordian talks with Jesus Figueroa, @ThisFunktional of ThisFunktional.com, about her single “January Moon,” available now. “January Moon,” is the new single from Alternative-Gothic artist Mordian. Produced by Evan Graham Dunn, it’s a haunting offering meant to carve the path for the next era of music; Mordian is eager to release more material after a period of rumination. “January Moon” follows her debut EP ‘Romance in Disguise’ which released in May 2019 and contains three distinctive sections which explore contrasting moods and atmospheres. Opening with serene entwining of vocal harmonies and clean guitar chords, this section has a personal feel with a strong uplifting atmosphere. Soulful vocals produce a beautiful sound before thundering into heavily distorted metal instrumentation and melodic elements. Emerging from the depths, the concluding passage brings a delicate melody performed on classical guitar with a haunting spoken narrative. Journeying through intense moods, the distinctive musical style of each part delivers its own powerful impact. French filmmaker Ilana Navaro talks with Jesus Figueroa, @ThisFunktional of ThisFunktional.com, about her documentary feature film “Joséphine Baker: The Story of an Awakening,” streaming exclusively on Cinemoi Network beginning on October 29 7 p.m. PST/ 10 p.m. EST. Josephine Baker made three trips “back home” (1936, 1948, 1951), and each time she experienced everyday racism, despite her worldwide fame. Each tragic experience triggered her life-changing decisions. Gradually the battle for Civil Rights became her own, up until 1963, when she was the only woman who spoke on stage besides Martin Luther King during the famous March in Washington. From then on, she used her fame to serve her political utopia until the end of her life. This is the journey of a superstar’s awakening from the “banana dancer” to a humanist fighter.
