The Dr. Alisha Podcast: What’s the Lyrics To your Life, Love, & Relationships?Aug 10, 2022

Episode 10: Poetry: Expressions
In this episode, I share a short poem that I wrote in 2010, Expressions. Expressing your emotions can be difficult at first but the result is liberating. I believe that when we talk about our feelings, they become less overwhelming, less upsetting, and less scary. Emotions give meaning to the story and paints a descriptive picture to what we are trying to express. I offer a few reflective questions at the end.

Episode 9: Motivation: How to find it, create it, and keep it.
In this episode, I discuss the two types of motivation, intrinsic and extrinsic. We all need a pick me up, some intrinsic motivation to focus on, and encouraging words to lift us up every now and then, especially when we’re feeling tired, discouraged, or defeated. I provide a few tips on how to find it, create it, and keep it motivation daily.

Episode 8: How to Communicate a Healthy Apology
In this episode, I discuss how to apologize with genuineness, empathy, and validation. One common struggle that I found in my work with couples in therapy, is their inability to apologize. Some people find it difficult or refuse to take accountability for their actions. They play the victim or minimize the magnitude of the problem. Learning a healthy way to communicate your apology and accept an apology is a foundational tool in any type of relationship.

In this episode, I read a poem that I wrote about summer and discuss how we often compare our summers to other people. I then, offer a few things to think about as you continue with the next several weeks before the season changes to Fall. Episode 6: Poetry: Invisible to Visible
As I mentioned last week, I am a creative poet and I love the freedom of expression, honesty, and rawness in sharing your thoughts and feelings, from pen to paper. Rather I’m writing about my own experience or writing to empathize with someone else's story, the emotions grow deeper. In this episode, I share a poem that I wrote in 2017, "Invisible". I also offer a few general ways to become more visible.

In this episode, I discuss lyric poetry. I like to consider myself an artist- a creative poet, musician, and writer. I share a poem that I wrote and analyze line by line the meaning of the metaphors. I also briefly discuss Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and how it can be used to reframe and challenge the negative thoughts or 'negative lyrics to a song'.
