Polygyny Series (1/3): A Second Wife’s Perspective

Polygyny Series (1/3): A Second Wife’s Perspective

Umm Muhammad is a second wife in a polygamous setting. I met her on one occasion about a year ago and my perspective on polygyny instantly changed after a very brief conversation. To say she’s only just amazing would be the understatement of the century. May Allah make her better than I think of her. P.S. I’m almost certain that this podcast would at the very least, change your mindset on polygyny. “Polygamy is not a death sentence.” - Umm Muhammad. No, no it is not.

“Nurturing the Amanah: Why I Chose to Homeschool” - with Umm Bunny.

“When we’re teaching children, or when children are learning, they’re not just learning information, they’re learning how to see life, they’re learning how to think, perceive, view and interpret life. And we find that a lot of us have a very secular, “excluding God” kind of approach to life. Allah is secondary to our lives. ‘Oh but we speak Arabic in school,’ but Islam is not just about speaking Arabic, it’s really about how you view the world. For me it’s important that Allah comes first in her life, that she recognizes that everything begins, is through and returns to Allah.” - Umm Bunny.

“I once read that you ought to give people their flowers while they are still alive. When the time comes, when I die, I want my loved ones to know that I’ve received my flowers and for that, I am eternally grateful.” - TTM

Tests & Tribulations: The importance of sabr.

Our guest host, Yasmin Dewu, is someone who has lost both biological parents as well as one of her foster parents. She has had to deal with a lot at such a young age. Yasmin tells us about her life and how she has dealt with everything that has happened to her thus far in this episode. She hopes that by the end of the episode, listeners will be reassured that everything will be fine, even if it doesn't appear so now, and that it's absolutely fine to feel vulnerable and fragile.
Enjoy.

“Yes it did take a toll on my self esteem because failure does that to you unless you handle it well… failure hits you. But you have to look back and realize that you’re not your failures. If anything, it teaches you so much, it teaches you a lot and I learnt that it’s okay to fall, it’s okay to quit….” - Khadija Sada.

“To be honest, it’s just a complete miracle. If I were to tell you that I heard a sermon that affected me, then how many sermons did I hear before then? The truth is, Allah helped me to stop downplaying how much of an obligation it was. I knew that I was supposed to go from cover girl to covered girl but I couldn’t for the life of me…” - Mrs B
