Are you aware of your covenantal relationship with God? Do you recognize your situation in light of God’s covenant? (Dan. 9:13-15) Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez considers the covenantal aspects of Daniel's prayer for Israel. Even as God had proved the covenantal curses to Israel, Daniel calls upon God to restore the promised blessings. Christians today stand in covenant relationship with God instituted by the blood of Christ. Will your actions anticipate covenantal blessings or punishments? Do you confess your sins to God? Do you confess the sins of your nation? Do you agree with God's judgments and punishments? (Dan. 9:4-12) Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez explores Daniel's prayer of confession. As the time for Israel's punishment comes to an end, Daniel begins his prayer by confessing his and the nation's sins. He accuses himself before God. He affirms God's righteous judgment. He affirms God's mercy. Let our prayers follow the model set by Daniel. 7@7 #135: Timely Intercession 1

What does your prayer life look like? Do you intercede for others? When you do pray, how do you pray? (Dan. 9:1-12) Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez considers the intercessory prayer of Daniel. Having examined the Scriptures, Daniel became aware that it was time to pray. The 70 years of exile prophesied by Jeremiah were coming to an end. Daniel sets himself to prayer. He covers himself in sackcloth and ashes, faces toward God and begins to pray. Daniel followed the Scripture by considering the words of Jeremiah and Solomon. When we pray, we should make certain that our words and actions are in accordance with Scripture.

Are you ever soul sick? Does the spiritual battle drain you? How can Christians cope with the consequence of God’s call? (Dan. 8: 27) Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez examines the state of Daniel after receiving a troubling vision from God. Daniel needed time to recover. He then re-engaged with his regular work of serving the king. He continued to consider the vision. When we are spiritually drained, we should imitate Daniel. Take time to rest and rejuvenate. Don't mope, but rather engage in different activities. Consider God's call, seek council, and await His clarification.

7@7 #132: Getting About God's Work

Are you about God’s Work? Are you called to the work you are about? (Eccl. 9:10; 1 Sam. 10) Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez considers the connection of work and calling for the believer. Scripture calls us to work with all our might. At the same time, the Bible reveals God's intention in directing people to certain labor. Saul neglected God's call and his vocation was given to another. Christians must embrace the call of God for their given vocation and serve with all their strength.

7@7 #131: Exposing Evil 1

7@7 #131: Exposing Evil 1

Are you awakened by Scripture? Or, do you slumber surrounded by evil? (Dan. 8:15-22). Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez observes how God's Word exposes evil. Daniel receives an interpretation of his vision. Daniel sees a glimpse of God that results in him falling to the ground. Daniel collapses almost instinctively in a similar manner to the experiences of Isaiah and Ezekiel. He is awaked by Gabriel, the great messenger of God. Gabriel guides Daniel through the vision, summarizing the major kingdoms represented by the animals. How do you respond to God's Word? Do you reverence it, recognizing its source? Do you appreciate its value for the present and the future? Does it change your disposition. God's Word exposes evil and prepares us to stand in the day of trouble.

7@7 #130: Trying Times from Temporal Authority 5

Do you ever feel like evil is going to win out? Do you trust that God will restrain wickedness? (Dan. 8:13-14). Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez discusses Trying Times experienced under Temporal Authority. Daniel's vision moves to a celestial conversation. Even the angels are shocked by the vision and question the duration of evil. It is revealed that the evil day will be limited for a specific time and that restoration and cleansing will follow. This passage encourages Christians by reminding us that evil will not prevail. It is limited to a time known by God. In God's time the evil we face will come to an end. Cleansing and restoration will follow. Persevere and preach the Gospel. God is still working even in the dark times.

7@7 #129: Trying Times from Temporal Authority 4

Do you believe in evil? Are you fit to face it? Are you prepared for persecution? (Dan. 8: 9-12). Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez discusses Trying Times experienced under Temporal Authority. As Daniel's vision continues, he perceives a horn growing out of one of the 4 horns of the goat. This horn represents a rule possessed of pride. The proud ruler seeks to destroy the things of God and God's people. Sometimes our leaders go from bad to worse. We must be prepared to suffer under wicked leaders. Evil is real, but Christ is greater. We need to prepare for persecution and pray for our suffering saints throughout the world.

Are you driven for revenge? Do you ever crave conflict? (Dan. 8: 5-8) Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez discusses Trying Times experienced under Temporal Authority. Daniel sees a gliding goat rushing into conflict with the ram. The goat represents Greece and Alexander the Great. Greece was driven by reprisal. Greece sought revenge against Persia for earlier attacks. We too can be consumed by revenge. We must restrain our desires to avenge ourselves. We must trust in the justice of God.

How do you keep your faith under a power crazed government? How should you comply? How should you resist? (Dan. 8:3-4) Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez discusses Trying Times experienced under Temporal Authority. Sometimes, our leaders are driven by and insatiable desire for power. God is aware of such leaders. Believers are encouraged by God's sovereignty in such times. We are warned not to follow in the steps of government compelled by passion. We need to support faithful "Lesser Magistrates." God remains our King and we must reject any orders contrary to HIs will.

7@7 #125: Jesus, Our Firm Foundation 3

Do your actions reflect the right footing? Does your soul resemble its source? Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez considers the relationship between assurance of salvation and holy living. He explores Phil. 1:6 and 2 Timothy 2:19. Believers are assured that God knows His own. We recognize that we belong to God by calling upon Jesus and by turning from sin. Often, we emphasize conversion in the Christian faith without calling people to repent. A life of holiness if the best testimony of one's salvation. Holy living tells the believers that their faith is effective. It tells unbelievers that Christ truly makes a difference in the lives of His people.

Advent of Antichrist (Sermon: Daniel 11:36-39)

Are you ready for spiritual warfare? Will you stand in the day of evil? Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez preaches from Daniel 11:36-39. This passage speaks of the antichrist. God has arranged the timing of this evil individual. He will be characterized by vainglory. He will be power obsessed and demon possessed. His time will mark hardship for God's people. We live in a world filled with leaders that evince demonic characteristics. We must prepare for evil days by standing on the promises of God and trusting in His protection. Resisting little antichrists equips us to resist Satan when he appears. Stand in the Spirit of God on the Word of God.

Are you building on the solid rock? Have you laid the proper foundation? Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez discusses the confidence Christians have in light of Phil. 1:6 and 1 Cor. 3:11. Paul confirms that there is only one foundation to build upon. That foundation is Jesus Christ. Christ has laid the only foundation. All other religions and philosophies are sinking sand. If you stand on the foundation of Christ, you are capable of building a life pleasing to God. If you do not stand on the foundation of Christ, you are standing in the path of judgment.

Christ's Commission (Sermon: Mt. 28:18-20, Luke 24:44-49; Acts 1:6-8)

Christ's Commission (Sermon: Mt. 28:18-20, Luke 24:44-49; Acts 1:6-8)

Are you a disciple? Are you a disciple maker? Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez looks at Matthew 28:18-20, Luke 24:44-49, Acts 1:6-8. Matthew relates the final words of Christ in the Gospel of Matthew. In His Great Commission, Jesus commands His followers to make disciples. Wherever you find yourself, wherever you go, Jesus calls you to be a disciple maker. Discipleship involves bringing people into a relationship with Christ marked by baptism. Disciple makers walk with disciples unto maturity. Are you continuing to grow in maturity? Who are you helping become a disciple of Christ today?

Are you a Gospel proclaimer? Are you a Herald for the King? Luke 24 reminds us of some of the final words of Christ in the Gospel of Luke. In this Great Commission, Jesus instructs His disciples on the content of the Gospel found in all Scripture. He reminds them of the unfulfilled task of proclamation. The Gospel must be proclaimed to all nations by those who witnessed the suffering, death, and resurrection of Christ. As a believer, you have become of witness to the Gospel in your own life. Now you are called to herald that message to the nations. Will you proclaim the Gospel message today?

Do you bear witness to the Gospel? What would you risk to maintain your witness? Acts recalls the commission to be witnesses. In the power of the Holy Spirit, God's witnesses will share the Gospel to the ends of the earth. Church history shows us that often witnesses are synonymous with martyrs. Would you give your life to the advancement of the Gospel?

7@7 #123: Jesus, Our Firm Foundation 1

Would you describe yourself as secure or shaky? Are you confident or uncertain? Are you standing on solid ground? Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez considers the confidence Christians have in light of Phil. 1:6 and Isaiah. 28:16. Paul expresses his confidence in the Philippian converts. Jesus will continue His sanctifying work in them until His return. Isaiah chastises the religious leadership for making deadly deals with other nations. He calls them to stand on the God-given Cornerstone for true security. The New Testament reveals that the tested, precious, and sure Cornerstone is Jesus Christ. If you place your faith in Him, you will not be shaken.

7@7 #122: Clarity from Chaos 4

Does the Word of God shake you? How do you respond to difficult teachings in Scripture? Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez concludes Daniel's pursuit of Clarity amidst Chaos in Daniel 7:28. This verse reveals Daniel's response to God's vision. The response can be characterized as heavy acceptance. After seeing God's message and hearing the interpretation, Daniel is shaken and sick. Despite the difficulty of the prophecy, Daniel secures it in his heart. Sometimes the Word of God challenges us. It can shake us to our core, even making us sick. When you are confronted with difficult passages, do you receive the message in your heart? Do you ignore the Word, reject the Word, or accept It? God has a message for you today. Imitate Daniel and secure the Word in your own heart.

Proving Prophecy (Sermon: Daniel 11:1-35)

Do you trust that God knows the things to come? Do you believe that He has power over the future? Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez preaches from Daniel 11:1-35. God reveals a perfect prediction of the future to his faithful prophet. Israel will find herself mired in the middle, stuck between the two competing powers of Seleucus and Ptolemy. Eventually a monstrous monarch will arise to torment the saints. God will sustain true believers, who persevere. These will be purified through persecution until the appointed time. These verses reveal some of the most specific prophecy in the Bible. When we review history, we see that it truly is His Story. God knows what is coming. He promises to walk with His own through the storm.

7@7 #121: Clarity from Chaos 3

How strong is your faith? Will it hold through the coming trials? Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez explores Daniel's pursuit of Clarity amidst Chaos in Daniel 7:19-27. In these verses an angel illuminates Daniel about the details of his vision. The terrible fourth beast will come along with the little horn. This horn will displace 3 other leaders, dishonor God, distress the saints, and seek to dissolve the times and the law. God will delineate the tenure of this beast and its horn. At the end of the set time, a heavenly court will convene. The beast's incumbency will be cancelled. Christ's celestial kingdom will come. Looking at the future, we know that often things get worse before they get better. God encouraged Daniel with a vision of the final kingdom. We too are encouraged to focus on the kingdom that never ends in the presence of the One who saves us.

OTXNT 50: Worship Music, Part 5 (The Sinner's Prayer)

Old Testament-Christ-New Testament: Worship (pt. 5) - The Sinner's Prayer. Should we employ a "sinner's prayer" in our worship or evangelism ministries? Could the Sinner's Prayer be misused and give people a false sense of security? In this episode, Dr. Andrew Marquez and Dr. Ben Pate continue their discussion on worship. Many services utilize a form of the sinner's prayer to call people to respond. Some accuse the use of a sinner's prayer as a form of manipulation. Others see the prayer as communicating "magic words" or an incantation. Despite these pitfalls, the Sinner's Prayer can be a useful tool for leading people to Christ. It helps Christians to have confidence in their witness. It can also show converts the contents and the demands of the Gospel as they count the cost.

Ready for Revelation (Sermon: Daniel 10:1-11:1)

Are we earnest in our prayers? Have you ever had an overwhelming encounter with God? Are you aware of the spiritual conflict around you? Have you enjoyed angelic aid? Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez preaches from Daniel 10:1-11:1. These verses reveal an earnest entreaty from Daniel. Through prayer, mourning, and fasting, Daniel's prayers are heard. The prophet receives an overwhelming encounter with God. He sees an awe-inspiring individual. The vision terrorizes Daniel and saps his strength. The individual speaks and soothes the prophet. Daniel's prayer produced a powerful vision of God that left him undone. Have you had a similar experience? Persevere in prayer and come to know God in a fresh, deep, and powerful way.

Daniel is awakened by an angel. The angel, Gabriel, informs Daniel of the spiritual warfare that delayed the spirit. Gabriel will soon return to this battle, but first the angel will minister to the prophet. Gabriel restores Daniel's speech. He renews Daniel's strength. The angel prepares Daniel to understand God's revelation. Have you encountered angels in your walk with God? The Bible declares that angels minister to us even today. As Satan and his demons try to hinder your walk with God, faithful angels stand ready to serve the saints. Be comforted by God's provision.

Are you trusting in God’s Promises? Do you hold to heaven’s assurance? Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez explores Daniel's pursuit of Clarity amidst Chaos in Daniel 7:17-18. These verses provide angelic assurance to Daniel. Even though terrible things lie in the future, something wonderful awaits beyond them. Four kingdoms will come. They will rise and fall, but God's kingdom will follow. This kingdom is for the saints. It will endure forever, even forever and ever. Christians today can walk in the knowledge of this promise. Regardless of what happens in the world around us, we know that our future is secure. God has prepared a place for His saints. God's promises are sure, and our destiny is eternal.

Powerful Prophecy (Sermon: Daniel 9:20-27)

Do you marvel at fulfilled prophecy? Do you look for prophetic fulfillment on the horizon? Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez preaches from Daniel 9:20-27. These verses provide the angelic answer to Daniel's prayer. The answer is a message about the future filled with tasks and a timeline. We see a countdown to the coming of Christ. We learn of the Messiah being cutoff along with the collapse of the sanctuary and the holy city. Eventually, one will appear to deceive and cause desolation. His time however is known and limited. God's knowledge of the future offers comfort to believers. God's promises are reliable since He holds time in His hands.

Timely Intercession (Sermon: Daniel 9:1-19)

What does your prayer life look like? Do you intercede for others? Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez preaches from Daniel 9:1-19. These verses retell the prayer of a prophet. Daniel confesses his own sins along with the sins of his people. He recognizes God’s righteousness in judging us for our sins. Daniel reminds God of the covenantal promises made to his fathers. He celebrates God’s past deliverance of Israel. Finally, Daniel asks God to relent and to restore. He asks God to act according to His character, to forgive, to turn away wrath, and to act on behalf of His people. Do you pray like Daniel? We can follow the example of the prophet in our own prayer, confessing our sins while clinging to the New Covenant in Jesus Christ. In this posture, we are emboldened to beg for God’s favor.

He approaches an angel and inquires about the Fourth Beast and the Pompous Horn. When we are discouraged, do we follow the example of Daniel? Do we seek answers from the world or do we go to God's Word and His messengers? Take time to seek God's face. Pray, read, and meditate on the Word of God. Do recognize God’s presence in the hard times? Do you point others to His presence? Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez examines a vision of Daniel that ensures victory. Daniel 7:1-8 tells of a dream given to the prophet. This terrible vision speaks of trouble in the future. At the same time, the vision affirms God's presence in the storm. God is the giver of the vision. He is not surprised by evil. Rather, He is cognizant of our hardships. God remains close to our side in times of sorrow and in the midst of persecution. The vision shows us that God is controlling the outcome. The future belongs to God. History is His-Story. God directs all things to His good purpose. Trying Times from Temporal Authority (Sermon: Daniel 8:1-14)

Are you worried about current events? Do you fear the future? Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez preaches from Daniel 8:1-14. These verses remind us of God's sovereignty over all--including evil regimes. Daniel's vision discloses terrible empires of the future. The revelation from God points us to foundational truths. First, all temporal authorities are perceived by the Primary Power. God knows what was, is, and is to come. Second, tyrannical governments come in different forms. An evil empire may be compelled by passion (vv. 3-4; 4c), driven to ever increase its power. Another empire may be propelled by reprisal (vv. 5-8), desiring to enact revenge others. A wicked government may be possessed of pride (vv. 9-12). This devious characteristic may be the most dangerous. It creates direct enmity between the prideful ruler and ultimate ruler, God. Daniel is shown a future filled with evil empires. Yet, he is not to be discouraged. The vision also confirms a third truth. Wicked rulers will be prevented from prevailing (vv. 13-14). God will only permit the wicked a short time to reign. He will bring judgment on nation after nation. Ultimately God will establish His own kingdom. Thy Kingdom come Thy will be done.

Old Testament-Christ-New Testament: Worship Music (pt. 3) - How do we address questions of style in worship? What elements are essential in a worship service? In this episode, Dr. Andrew Marquez and Dr. Ben Pate continue their discussion on worship service and worship music. Should we regulate the elements and style of worship? If so, what principles do we have at our disposal. The regulative principle restricts the elements of worship to the instructions given in Scripture. The normative principle promotes creativity in worship so long as it does not contradict Scripture. Are worship leaders working through these issues in worship, or being driven by other forces?

Have you ever been vindicated, cleared of false charges? Did the vindication bring recognition or rewards? Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez reviews a trust in God that testifies to others. Daniel 6:24, 28 reveals what happened to Daniel and his accusers after the prophet escaped the lions' den. Daniel's nemeses were neutralized by Darius. The king turned the tables on Daniel's enemies. He committed the conspirators to the lions, along with their wives and children. The Babylonian gods were not able to spare Daniel's opponents. The lions devoured their prey before they reached the ground.  Daniel on the other hand prospered for the remainder of Darius' tenure. Someday we will all stand for judgment. A terrible fate awaits the enemies of God. Those on the side of Satan will suffer his fate in hell. Those who belong to Jesus will not be punished for their sins. Rather, they will prosper in the presence of the Lion of Judah.

What if your prayers were answered today? How would you react? Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez considers a trust in God that testifies to others. Daniel 6:18-23 tells what happened to Darius and Daniel after Daniel was thrown to the lions. Darius' hope is realized after a night of distress, unrest, and dismay. After an evening of turmoil, fasting, and grief, Darius approaches the lions' den at first light. He learns of a surprising salvation. Daniel lives! Dairus pronounces an elated explanation testifying to the God of Daniel--the God who saves. We can learn a lot about prayer from this passage. Even pagan kings place their hope in God. Do we pray in faith? Do we pray with fasting and intensity? Most importantly, do we give praise to God for answered prayer? We serve a God Who saves. Let us give Him the praise He is due by testifying of His glory among the nations.

Throughout the Bible we see examples of musical worshipers. We are given commands to sing praises to God. Music is a standard feature in worship both individually and corporately. When you think of the future are your encouraged or discouraged? Where do you turn for answers about the future? Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez preaches from Daniel 7:15-28. These verses reveal an alarmed investigation of the prophet in regard to his vision. He is concerned about a dreadful 4th beast and its insolent horn. Daniel receives heavenly assurance. Despite the coming difficulties, God will come in His time to judge and set things right. With a heavy heart, Daniel accepts these words and keeps the vision to himself. He will trust God even with knowledge of a hard future for his people. We can learn from Daniel. When we see challenges ahead, do we turn to God? 7@7 #111: Defying Despotism 2

Will you serve God or man? Are you ready to make the choice? Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez discusses the importance of Defying Despotism. In Daniel 6:6-10, we look behind the scenes to see the actions of Daniel's enemies. A crafty conspiracy comes together as Daniel's opponents propose a new law to Darius. The emperor is deceived by pride to restrict all prayer for 30 days. During this period citizens must only petition Darius for help, rejecting all other men and gods. Upon hearing this decree, Daniel visibly and fearlessly prays to God as he had always done. When the trap is set for us, will we be faithful as Daniel? Are we faithful in the little things today?

Vision of Victory (Sermon: Dan. 7:1-14)

Do you look for God's Presence in the storm? Do you recognize God's purpose in judgment and redemption? Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez preaches from Daniel 7:1-14. Daniel receives an intense vision that discloses difficult times in the future. Despite this reality, the dream also reveals God's sovereignty and ultimate victory. Believers are encouraged to persevere in hard times by remembering God's control of the future.

Are you ready to be on the enemy's radar? Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez discusses the importance of Defying Despotism. In Daniel 6:1-5, we see the promotion of Daniel to high office as a result of his faithfulness. The shining assignment brings a hollow hostility as Daniel's opponents look for a flaw or failure to exploit in order to halt higher promotion for the prophet. Finding no fault in Daniel, his enemies resign to a sinister strategy. They seek to manufacture a conflict between Daniel's service to God and the empire.

Have you met the Prince of Peace? Has He made you a minister of peace? Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez reflects on the Christmas Carol, O Little Town of Bethlehem. The Prince Provides the Peace. In Micah 5:4b-5, we are told of an enduring peace that is sourced in Christ and extended to us. As Jesus descended upon Bethlehem, He promised peace to all that would come to Him. Christ ends our enmity with God by paying the price for sin. He makes us whole. Jesus also promised to return again. At His 2nd coming, He will establish enduring peace by conquering Satan and his servants. Jesus will gather His own to Himself and care for them forever. In between these comings, we are called to be peacemakers. We make peace on earth by proclaiming the Gospel that sinners might be forgiven. We also work for peace on earth as adopted children of God. We offer peace because we have met the Prince and Author of peace.

Go Tell It on the Mountain (Sermon)

Do you walk in Joy? Proclaim it from the mountaintops. Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez teaches from the Christmas Carol, Go Tell It on the Mountain. This hymn begins with an Abrupt Announcement to humble shepherds. Shepherds hold a special vocation in God's kingdom. He calls Himself the Good Shepherd. These shepherds were ready for the message as they performed their duty of caring for their flocks. Next, the hymn tells of a Glorious Gospel. The message was heralded by angels. It spoke of joy for all people. Verse 3 expresses a Surprising Salvation. Featuring the humility of God, a child in a manger has come to save the humble. Finally, the chorus of the carol calls us to Passionate Proclamation. A story fulfilled must also be a story shared. Who can you tell today?

Are you devoted to Christ? Do you delight in Him? Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez reflects on the Christmas Carol, O Little Town of Bethlehem. Devotion Promotes Delight. God promises to care for His sheep (Micah 5:4a). His care causes our delight. Still, not all Christians delight in the Lord equally. The depth of our devotion increases our delight in our Savior. We need to incorporate devotional practices that stimulate our desire for Jesus. Pray, read the Scripture, attend church, fast, abstain, fellowship, serve, and witness. These things, performed from a meek heart, will draw you closer to Christ. He will enter you and dine with you. You will increase in delight of Him for eternity.

Do you persevere in Patience? Will you wait on God’s promises? Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez reflects on the Christmas Carol, O Little Town of Bethlehem. Patience prepares us for promises. The prophet Micah predicted great things for Bethlehem 700 years before they would take place. The wondrous scene depicted in the second verse of the carol reflects the fulfillment of prophecy that was patiently longed for. Angels and mortals awaited the promised Messiah. Only those walking in patience witnessed the birth of Christ. Upon fulfillment, however, they proclaimed the message to all.  God calls us to patiently wait upon His promises. This patience builds our character and hope. God's patience permits opportunity for repentance and Gospel proclamation. How are you using the waiting time?

In fact, its name translates to "Bread Town." How fitting that the Messiah, the Bread of Life, would come from Bethlehem. This town of both humble means and stature served as the birthplace of the King of Kings. God prefers to use humble people to fulfill great purposes. Christians should learn from Bethlehem. Belshazzar rewards Daniel and retires for the evening. The unrepentant king is killed that very night. We are called to be bold as Daniel and to declare God's judgment against sin. Tale of Two Sovereigns (Sermon: Dan. 4:28-37)

Is Judgement at Hand? Have you recognized the Most High God? What changes when you recognize the glory of God? Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez looks at Daniel 4:28-37. In these verses, Nebuchadnezzar's dream is realized. After a season to repent expires, the king becomes self-enraptured and falls into the sin of pride. God pronounces a sentence upon the King and takes Nebuchadnezzar's sanity for 7 years. Do we ever fail in our repentance? Do we fall into pride? God's judgment may be at hand for your sin. Even Christians experience consequences of sin in this life. Hold to repentance, and walk in the mercy of Christ.

Have you recognized the Most High God? Have you bowed knee to King Jesus? Nebuchadnezzar finally confesses God as the Most High. He comes to his senses after seven years of insanity. He professes the Immortal, Incomparable, and Incontestable God. Do you know this God?

The story ends as Nebuchadnezzar tells of his restoration and displays his resolution. After humbling himself before God, Nebuchadnezzar receives sanity, status, subjects and sovereignty. He is given greater majesty than ever before, demonstrating God's generosity. Nebuchadnezzar proclaims God's glory and warns against pride. Are you humble before God? Daniel rejects Belshazzar's offer but agrees to reveal the message. First, Daniel will remind the king of his forefather Nebuchadnezzar. The Toppled Tree (Sermon: Dan 4:1-27)

The Toppled Tree (Sermon: Dan 4:1-27)

What moves you to share the Gospel? Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez looks at Daniel 4:1-27. In these verses, King Nebuchadnezzar testifies to the Most High God, encouraging all people everywhere to acknowledge Him. We find from this chapter that a real encounter with God motivates our worship and our desire to bring others into relationship with our Lord.

How do you think through difficult situations? King Nebuchadnezzar was troubled by a dream. He called in the experts, but they could not help. Finally he called upon Daniel, the one with the Spirit of God. When we face difficult issues or circumstances, do we go to God? Do we turn to the revelation of God's Spirit in Scripture?

Do you hear God’s voice? Do you listen to God’s warnings? King Nebuchadnezzar's dream was confusing, but clearly represented a warning to the pagan ruler. Nebuchadnezzar recognized the significance of this dream and seeks help. Do you place yourself before God's Word? Remove distractions and seek God's voice. Share God's Word with others, so they can hear the warning and learn of salvation.

Will you repent before the judgment? Do you turn from sin when God warns? Daniel interpreted Nebuchadnezzar's dream. The king is the great tree who will be cut down. He will be humbled for 7 times (likely 7 years). Daniel urged the king to repent to possibly put off the judgment. We can avoid judgment for sin if we will repent and trust in God's mercy. Turn from rebellion and self, turn to Jesus and receive His mercy, forgiveness, and righteousness.

Faith through Fire (Sermon: Dan. 3:19-30)

Will you persevere in persecution? Have you experienced God’s salvation? When will the righteous be rewarded? In this sermon, Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez looks at Daniel 3:19-30. The passage tells of the moment when Nebuchadnezzar cast Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego into the fiery furnace. When persecution comes to you or those you love, will you remain faithful? God promises to save the faithful  through the fire.

In the midst of the fire, Nebuchadnezzar sees one like the son of god walking with the other three. The king calls the faithful servants of the Most High from the flames to discover that they were completed preserved from the fire. When God saves, He saves completely. He saves from sin today and from the eternal lake of fire. Have you received this salvation?

Upon surviving the furnace, Nebuchadnezzar applauds the servants of God. He praises their faithfulness, and warns their accusers. He awards the three with higher position. God will reward the righteous, in this life or the next, for their faithfulness.

Conviction in Crisis (Sermon: Dan. 3:1-18)

Are you Alert? Are you prepared? How is your conduct? Are you ready for the test? In this devotion, Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez looks at Daniel 3:1-18. This passage reveals the work of Nebuchadnezzar to counteract the dream of chapter 2. By building a statue of solid gold, Nebuchadnezzar rejects the vision of subsequent empires. By mandating worship to this statue, Nebuchadnezzar petitions his gods to continue his empire. The verses tell of the charges brought against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, for not bowing to Nebuchadnezzar's golden statue. The Bible warns Christians that the world will bring accusations against them. Such charges may misrepresent our beliefs and actions. Peter calls believers to live with excellent conduct to shame accusers and perhaps to win them to glory in the day of Christ. Do you have courage in your convictions? The king offers the exiles a final chance to worship his image. Their response is among the greatest answers given in the Bible. "Our God . . . is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, . . . but if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up." Would you have such courage in the face persecution and death? Remain in Christ! Receive His grace, so that you will be ready when the trial comes.

The king is the great tree who will be cut down. He will be humbled for 7 times (likely 7 years). While the decree is given, Daniel urges the king to repent and possibly put off the judgment. We can avoid the declared judgment for sin if we will repent and trust in God's mercy. Turn from rebellion and self, turn to Jesus and receive His mercy, forgiveness, and righteousness.

Are you Alert? Are you prepared? The devil is looking for an opportunity. In this devotion, Pastor/Professor Andrew Marquez looks at Daniel 3:1-7.
