THIS AMERICAN WASTELAND - A SCIFI AUDIO DRAMA
Welcome Science Fiction aficionado and listener of the Dead Hand Radio podcast.
If you’re a listener of Dead Hand Radio, you know this podcast is centered on the events of the cold war, but that's not all it is. It's only been around since March of 2020 and is constantly evolving.
After several months of strictly talking about The Cold War, I decided to change up the format and did a whole series on The Paranormal for Halloween. 12 episodes in all, with guests from different backgrounds and interests, who joined me and through their experiences and anecdotes took listeners on a journey through the world of spirits, ghost stories and haunted locations. We talked about cursed lands, myths, legends and lore. It was a blast, and it really opened my eyes as to what this podcast can become.
After that series I wanted to expand the platform even more and decided to add a new element to the line up of interesting content.
So from this point on, I will occasionally be bringing on people interested in pop culture, movies, comics, books, art and everything else in between related to the incredible world of Science Fiction.
My guest for this SciFi Edition is Podcaster Sean Ramos. Creator of the Audio Drama This American Wasteland

EXPERIENCING THE PHENOMENON
Lynda Thompson is a UFO researcher, Contactee and is sensitive to psychic impressions which have been quite useful throughout her life. Her roles while in the workforce have prepared her and equipped her with the knowledge and insight to demonstrate a highly disciplined approach to her search for answers about the UFO topic.
I was first attracted to Lynda’s work through Twitter and after seeing her interviews with Dave Scott from Spaced Out Radio, I decided to reach out to her and invite her on this podcast to learn more about her and talk about some topics that I felt could be further explored and might be beneficial to others interested in the UFO Phenomena.
She was understandably a bit hesitant at first and we agreed to talk, but with the caveat that if she wasn’t comfortable with the conversation by the time it had ended, then it wouldn’t be published. I’m happy to report that she agreed to a public release of our conversation.
To learn more about Lynda’s work and to get in contact with her, please follow her on Twitter. She’s very approachable and is committed to searching for the truth and helping others who’ve had negative experiences related to the phenomena.

Tom and Ted spent decades investigating the site known as Marley Woods and have made some very intriguing discoveries and recorded some compelling evidence. They also conducted countless eyewitness accounts of the strange phenomena that occurs on a regular basis in this area.
What's most notable about this whole conversation is that the activity has not only continued, but it has increased in frequency.

QUANTUM CONSCIOUSNESS WITH SCI-FI WRITER ARTHUR H. WALKER DEAD HAND RADIO 19
Arthur Walker is a writer, artist, philosopher, game dev and consultant.
He’s a creator of worlds on page and on-screen, and he’s a brilliant individual. In this episode of Dead Hand Radio, Arthur and I discuss creative pursuits and share ideas about artificial intelligence, quantum computing, machine learning and consciousness.
Of course an episode of Dead Hand Radio would not be complete if my guest and I didn’t talk about the cold war at some level, and during our discussion, we certainly do touch on the topic of the cold war and how AI is connected to that time period.
Finally, we close out our conversation with a jaunt into the post apocalyptic genre, and consider the possible or inevitable destruction of Earth and the potential for humans, with the help of AI, to prevent that from happening.
It was a very intellectually stimulating conversation and I’m so glad to have had the opportunity to explore these topics with someone like Arthur.
DEAD HAND RADIO is A podcast about the Cold War. It’s history and the effects it had on our culture, technology and the future of our world.

COLD WAR 2.0 & THE APOCALYPSE WITH JJ SHURTE
My guest for this episode is JJ Shurte. A post-apocalyptic writer and creator of the post-apocalyptic writing guide.
I first met JJ on Twitter where we’ve exchanged many tweets about the apocalypse, writing, gaming and photography and other interesting topics.
A little over a year ago, I interviewed JJ for my blog, and now that I have a podcast I thought he would be an interesting guest to have on. During our conversation we catch up on life, talk about the post-apocalyptic genre and some of the current events going on in Asia, where he lives.
I had a great time talking with JJ and I’m glad he agreed to come on the show.
Aside from our occasional exchanges on Twitter, we haven’t really connected since our last collaboration, when I interviewed JJ for my Creating Awesome project. That was a little over a year ago and our entire world has changed since then.
So before we get into the main topic of our discussion, JJ gives a brief background about himself, and what he's up to these days.
End of the cold war
Born in 1985 which is near the end of the cold war, JJ shares some memories he has of the events from the cold war at that early age.
He remembers the Fall of the Berlin Wall and the Collapse of the Soviet Union.
He also recollects some stories that his parents and other family members shared with him about the Soviet Union and the impending threat of nuclear war.
Cold War 2.0 Increasing Tensions in Asia
While the rest of the World is thinking about the effects of COVID19, protests and riots breaking out in major cities throughout the US and other countries, there seems to be an increase in tensions between the US and China and it centers on Taiwan.
Just prior to this episode I read and article about this in the Nikkei Asian Review and we discuss this at length.
Risk of war is rising rapidly, and China may seek to push tensions even higher
Taiwan is potentially a powder keg that could kick off a major conflict between the worlds two largest super powers and lead to a shooting war.
Post-Apocalyptic Fiction
One of the books JJ has written is The Post-Apocalyptic Writing Guide and is partly the reason why we first got to know each other.

UFOs AND NUKES WITH JEREMY McGOWAN - UFO EDITION 04
My guest on this episode of Dead Hand Radio is Jeremy McGowan.
Jeremy is a US Air Force veteran, a researcher and UFO experiencer.
I first became aware of Jeremy when he appeared on season 2, episode 3 of Unidentified - America’s UFO Investigation. That episode was titled UFOs vs Nukes and Jeremy shared details of his encounter with a UAP during that episode.
Since then Jeremy has become active on Twitter and shared more details of his experience on various podcasts. Jeremy and I connected on Twitter and exchanged several messages which resulted in a meeting over lunch and a long discussion about Nukes, UFOs and his experience in the military. We also talked about his relationship with members of TTSA and his plans to pursue his interest in the UFO phenomena.
Fast forward about a month, I invited Jeremy to join me on Dead Hand Radio to talk about some of our shared interests, and the timing could not have been better.
This is one of the longest and most interesting conversations I’ve recorded and we covered a tremendous amount of information. There’s a lot of new ground that Jeremy has never discussed before. And we get philosophical about some of life’s most intriguing mysteries.
Jeremy is a fascinating individual and a rigorous investigator and I believe his contribution to the UFO community has only just begun.
I hope you enjoy listening to this episode as much as I enjoyed creating it.

NUMBERS STATIONS - DEAD HAND RADIO 12
On this episode of Dead Hand Radio… Numbers Stations with my guest Andy Ussery.
Runtime: 1:02 minutes
Andy is a musician and a fellow podcaster who I met through Twitter. We were introduced through some mutual friends and found out we had some common interests including the topic of this episode. Andy’s also produced some fantastic podcast intros.
This is a topic I’ve wanted to cover for quite some time. In this Andy and I get into some interesting theories and share some fascinating facts about what numbers stations are, their history, who uses them and how and are they still in use today.
We also share some recordings of the most cryptic numbers stations broadcasts available.
By the end of our conversation, one thing is certain… There’s a lot that is known about numbers stations, but there’s a lot that is still unknown about them, and we’re no closer to the truth about these mysterious broadcasts then we were before we started.
However, it’s my hope that by listening to this episode some of you will learn something new and maybe get inspired to research the topic for yourself and see if you can come up with any new ideas or information about the subject.

HIROSHIMA & NAGASAKI with ATOMICARCHIVE.COM - DEAD HAND RADIO 11
Dead Hand Radio is a podcast about the Cold War. It’s history and the effects it had on our culture, technology and the future of our world.
WWII Ended 75 years ago after the atomic bombings of the Japanese cities Hiroshima on Aug 6 and Nagasaki on Aug 9 1945. These are the only two times in history that Atomic weapons were used against enemy targets. Though it brought the end of the most terrible military conflict ever experienced by humanity, the toll of these two attacks was tremendous.
Some would argue it should have never been done, others say there was little choice and it saved lives. One thing we can all agree on, is that it should never happen again.
This episode was recorded on the eve of the 75th anniversary of the Trinity Test, the world's first atomic bomb. And is being released just prior to the 75th anniversary of the bombings of Hiroshima, and Nagasaki.
By this time in 1945 War had already ended in Europe, and the leaders of the UK, US and USSR were dividing up the spoils and redrawing borders for the nations of Europe. There was an obvious distrust growing between the Soviet Union and their Western Counterparts and the use of Atomic Weapons by the US against Japan compounded that sentiment for Stalin.
At the same time, the western allies were frustrated by the Soviet Union's interference with so-called “democratic” elections in Eastern Europe, and military posturing by the Soviets in East Germany increased tensions even more. Only through a very creative diplomatic response by the US was war averted, but nevertheless tensions continued to escalate in the years to come.
There are conflicting arguments as to the beginning and ending of the cold war. Some argue that it started with the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Others say it started when the Soviet Union tested their first nuke. What’s notable is that the Cold War was centered around the proliferation of nuclear weapons on a global scale and was a precarious time in the history of humanity.
As part of my journey with this podcast, I visit many online resources to increase my knowledge of the events that took place during the cold war.
One of those resources, AtomicArchive.com is a website dedicated to collecting and storing information, photos and videos related to the testing and development of nuclear weapons and the events of the cold war.
With an abundance of information, photographs, videos and links to additional resources Atomic Archive is an incredible resource for anyone interested in studying the history and science of the atomic bomb and the effects it has on our world.
My guest for this episode of Dead Hand Radio is curator and webmaster of Atomic Archive Chris Griffith
The goal of this show is to examine these and other topics, and guide listeners and guests on a journey of mind expanding contemplation. To learn. To educate. To entertain and exchange ideas with those interested.
So join me, and together we’ll explore a fascinating period of history and examine some incredible advancements in weapons, technology, science, art and culture and discuss how all of it relates to the future of our world.
If you or someone you know has knowledge about the cold war or any other topics we discuss on this program, please get in touch and let’s talk. It could be a great conversation for a future episode and I’m especially interested to talk with anyone who has first hand knowledge of these topics.

TRINITY TEST with NATIONAL ATOMIC TESTING MUSEUM - DEAD HAND RADIO 10
DEAD HAND RADIO is a podcast about the Cold War. It’s history and the effects it had on our culture, technology and the future of our world.
My guest for this episode of Dead Hand Radio is Joe Kent. Director of Education for the National Atomic Testing Museum in Las Vegas, Nevada.
RUN TIME 2:00:00
The National Atomic Testing Museum (NATM) is a national science, history and educational institution that tells the story of America’s nuclear weapons testing program at the Nevada Test Site.
The museum’s focus is to preserve, consolidate and make accessible to the public historical and archival records, films, photographs, testing and archeological artifacts associated with the Nevada Test Site.
The museum offers public tours, educational programs, guest lectures, and book signings for the purpose of raising awareness of the Nevada Test Site and the nation's nuclear weapons testing program.
Manhattan Project and the First Atomic Bombs
June 1942 marks the beginning of the Manhattan Project. But prior to that a very important correspondence took place that led to the development of the program.
July 16 1945 is a significant day in history. It was the day of the world’s first atomic explosion. And we’re coming up on the 75th anniversary of that date.
August 1945 two more bombs were detonated, this time on civilian populated areas, resulting in massive casualties, and the surrender of the Japanese army which effectively ended the war in the Pacific.
The Nevada Test Site
The Nevada Test Site was Established 1951 and was host to 100 above ground and 828 underground nuclear tests were conducted between 1951 and 1992.
I just found out that a distant relative of mine, Andrew Weiman worked for General Atomic at the test site and designed the high speed instrumentation necessary to measure the short-lived particles from underground nuclear tests. I was pretty excited to hear this and received a written account of some of his involvement with the test site. I haven’t read this yet, but I'm very much looking forward to it.
Leading to the end of the cold war a few significant dates should be mentioned.
November 1989 Berlin Wall comes down December 1991 USSR Collapses October 2nd 1992 Moratorium on Nuclear Testing went into effect. What’s the current state of the Nevada Test Site?DEAD HAND RADIO

UFO INVESTIGATOR SHANE HURD - UFO EDITION 02
Dead Hand Radio is a podcast about the Cold War. It’s history and the effects it had on our culture, technology and the future of our world.
Occasionally I go off-topic and explore other areas of interest like esoteric knowledge, secret societies, The paranormal and UFOs also known as Unidentified Aerial Phenomena or UAP.
My guest for this episode is UFO Investigator Shane Hurd
Runtime = 2:08
Shane is a veteran UFO investigator who serves as the Assistant State Director for Arizona’s chapter of the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON). I first encountered Shane during a presentation he gave on YouTube, about investigating UFOs. His approach to the topic and his demeanor in general are serious and no-nonsense. He seems passionate about his role as an investigator and researcher of the UFO/UAP phenomena. And as a MUFON member, he seems sincerely concerned with helping witnesses discover the truth about what they’re seeing in the skies.
One of the areas Shane mentioned in his presentation, was a topic that has become quite fascinating to me in recent months and that’s why I invited him to join me for a discussion.
This episode of Dead Hand Radio will cover several areas of UFOlogy including “how to get started as a researcher and how to properly investigate these phenomena”, and then we get into some UFOs and Nuclear Weapons, and try to determine what connection they have.

UFOs and UAP in the UK - UFO EDITION 01
DEAD HAND RADIO is a podcast about the Cold War. It’s history and the effects it had on our culture, technology and the future of our world.
Runtime 1:52:00
EPISODE 8 - UFO PODCASTER ANDY McGRILLEN
My guest today is Host of That UFO Podcast, Andy McGrillen
Andy is a podcaster, Scottish by birth and currently lives in the North East part of England with his wife and two children. Aside from being a podcaster, father and husband, Andy also has a lifelong interest in UFOs and he’s interviewed many well known members of the UFO community.
Andy and I met on Twitter, of course. Even though we live on different continents, the Internet being the most powerful communication medium ever, has made it possible to connect with people all around the world. When I discovered That UFO Podcast I reached out to him because of my own fascination with UFOs.
After several texts, I figured there’s certainly enough Cold War related UFO incidents worth diving into on this show, and I invited him on to discuss some of these events.
This episode will focus on UFOs and Aliens, and for listeners who tune in to hear about the cold war, don’t run away just yet. The cold war era had many UFO sightings and Alien encounters. In fact, the UFO phenomena actually became popular during the cold war.
To start, the Roswell Incident, which occurred in 1947, involved the crash landing of an unidentified craft, in the New Mexico desert near the town of Roswell. That incident was preceded by another very well known sighting just a few days earlier by pilot Kenneth Arnold who witnessed 9 saucer shaped craft flying at unimaginable speeds in the skies of southern Washington, between Mt Rainier and Mt Adams. It was this encounter that resulted in the term “flying saucers”.
These are only two of the UFO events recorded during the cold war era. And if you’re still not convinced this subject is interesting, stick around til the end for a bonus segment. And I’ll share a case that'll leave you wondering what these things are and why they’re here.
Finally, I’d like to mention that I really enjoy Andy’s podcast. He takes a very professional approach to his interviews, while at the same time maintains an easy and laid back atmosphere, but doesn’t shy away from getting into sensitive areas and asking hard questions that elicit interesting responses from his guests.
For these reasons I’ve invited Andy McGrillen to be my guest and discuss UFOs and the Military on this episode of Dead Hand Radio.

CREATIVE INFLUENCES with ARTIST J. EDWARD NEILL - DEAD HAND RADIO 7
Dead Hand Radio is a podcast about the Cold War. It’s history and the effects it had on our culture, technology and the future of our world.
Runtime 48 minutes.
My guest on this episode is Artist / Author J Edward Neill
Also known as Jeremy he currently resides in Atlanta GA and spends his days painting, writing and enjoying time with his son. I first became aware of Jeremy on Twitter where he posts images of his paintings almost daily. The dark style and color palette of his artwork are what first caught my attention and that’s when we started to chat.
I later found out he is an author and his writing varies among several different genres including science fiction, horror and philosophy. I think he’s even written some high fantasy.
In this interview we discuss Jeremy’s influences, what inspires him and what are some of his aspirations for the future. He shares some stories about his childhood that lend insight into his creative outlet, and talks about the things that are truly important to him.
The one thing we didn’t discuss was the Cold War and for that I have to apologize. Nevertheless it’s a fascinating discussion with a very talented, highly imaginative and creative individual, and I hope you enjoy.

OUTDOOR ADVENTURES WITH EXPLORATION PROJECT
This is DEAD HAND RADIO
Now available on all podcast platforms including: Apple Podcasts, GooglePlay, Spotify, Stitcher, iHeartRadio and more.
My guest on this episode is Heather @ExplorationProject
Heather is an “Adventure Blogger” an explorer, and photographer. Her website and social media activity are focused on positivity and inspiration and she’s extremely well liked due to her positive attitude and uplifting posts on Twitter and Instagram.
I first became aware of Heather through an online literary magazine, called Barren Magazine, which we both contributed to. One of her photos was selected as the “Cover” for that month and instantly got my attention. So I followed her as I did many creative people from Barren Magazine around that time. Since then, Her work has stood out because of her positive outlook and friendly personality and we’ve been exchanging posts ever since.
Most of Heather’s photography consists of landscapes, wildlife and her dog Marco, but what first attracted me to her photography was those abandoned structures. And the way she always includes something informative and entertaining with her posts.
This episode will focus on being positive, the importance of getting outdoors and exploring the world around us, and generally being a curious observer in life in order to stay sane in an insane world.
Aside from everything else I mentioned, Heather is a native of Canada, she loves the outdoors, hiking, and traveling, and lives with her husband and her dog Marco. She’s also an inspiration to me and I’m excited she accepted my invitation to come on this podcast.

MOVIES & PODCASTING with PHANTOM DARK DAVE - DEAD HAND RADIO 3
This is DEAD HAND RADIO
Now available on all podcast platforms including: Apple Podcasts, GooglePlay, Spotify, Stitcher, iHeartRadio and more.
My guest today is Phantom Dark Dave
Dave is a podcaster, screenwriter, filmmaker and actor, but he might best be known for his two podcasts, Dave’s Pop Culture Podcast (which is now a YouTube channel) and The Podcast From Another World, where he talks about all things pop culture, including movies and comic books.
In fact Dave has spent his whole life idolizing films, especially those of the Horror genre and he’s written a couple of his own movies. He’s tried his hand at acting and directing and rumor has it he’s even worked with Troma films. And He’s won a few awards as a filmmaker.
Dave and I first met through our mutual friend Evan @FromTheWastes on Twitter and we’ve been talking about collaborating on something ever since.
In fact, the more we talk, the more we find that we have in common which is one the reasons I invited Dave to come on.
This episode goes quite a bit off-topic from what it usually focuses on, but Dave has been such a source of inspiration to the podcast that I insisted and he accepted.
Aside from everything else I mentioned, he’s a father, he lives in Texas with his cat (Kick) and he’s an all around decent human being. He’s also one of the people responsible for me starting this podcast.
DEAD HAND RADIO is currently exploring the Cold War and its impact on our world, our culture and the future of.
So join me on this episode of DEAD HAND RADIO.

NBC & WMDs WITH AUTHOR BK BASS - DEAD HAND RADIO 2
This is DEAD HAND RADIO
Now available on all podcast platforms including: Apple Podcasts, GooglePlay, Spotify, Stitcher, iHeartRadio and more.
My guest for this episode is BK Bass. BK is a former Army Veteran with years of experience in the field of NBC Decontamination.
If you don’t know what NBC is, you’ll definitely want to check out this episode of DEAD HAND RADIO.
I first met BK on Twitter and learned about his work as a writer, publisher and world builder, when I interviewed him for my blog Creating Awesome. I’ve also read some of his books, and one of his recent books What Once Was Home, is a post-apocalyptic story about an alien invasion. Without saying too much, this story is not what you think. It’s an outstanding story and I highly recommend it.
For this interview, BK joins me to talk about some issues that this podcast is focused on, and that is Nuclear war, Chemical and Biological weapons of mass destruction, they’re effects and how they’re employed in battle.
DEAD HAND RADIO is currently on a run of exploring the Cold War and its impact on our world, our culture and the future of wars and BK’s experience in the military is quite relevant to this podcast.
So join me on the next episode as we dig deeper into the cold war, on DEAD HAND RADIO.

DEAD HAND RADIO - SPECIAL REPORT #1
In this special report I just want to give a shout out to the listeners of this podcast as a show of how much I appreciate everyone who listens.
Thank you so much.

WHAT IS THE DEAD HAND? - INTRO TO DEAD HAND RADIO
You’re Listening to DEAD HAND RADIO.
Available on all podcast platforms including Anchor.fm, Apple Podcast, Google Play, Spotify, Stitcher, YouTube and many more.
What is the Dead Hand?
Starting in the late 1940s and through the 1990s the US and the former USSR were embroiled in a cold war. Several times throughout the tumultuous decades, these two great nations and their allies nearly escalated into an all out thermonuclear war that could wipe out civilization several times over and leave planet Earth a barren wasteland for thousands of years.
In the 80’s during the Reagan administration, the US implemented The Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI), also known as Star Wars. This Space Based Missile Defense Platform was intended to force the USSR to exhaust their military budget in an attempt to end the cold war. In response the Soviet war machine went into full on MAD (Mutually Assured Destruction) Mode and did something no one expected.
Enter the Dead Hand
The Dead Hand is a Soviet era doomsday device that was created in response to the massive build up of the US nuclear arsenal. It's designed to launch a counter offensive strike against the US and their allies in the instance that Russia is destroyed by a first strike.
While many skeptics say the dead hand is a myth, there are some experts who would argue, and even some eyewitnesses who have come forward and claim that the dead hand is real.
What’s even more concerning is that it may still be active...
DEAD HAND RADIO was created to focus on issues of existential threats to life on earth.
If you’ll join me, together we’ll begin our journey with a trip through the cold war, nuclear weapons and the future of warfare. Afterall, the history of human civilization is the history of war.
Some episodes will be solo, where I’ll deliver a monologue based on a thesis I’ve prepared for that episode. Other episodes will include guests who can bring specific knowledge and expertise on different areas.
My goal is to explore these topics with the audience. To learn. To educate. To entertain and exchange ideas with those interested.
And to present factual information about the world we live and the precarious nature of our human existence.
So my invitation to you, is take this ride with me and together we’ll find out where it goes.
If you or someone you know has a comment or question about, or would like to contribute to the conversation, please contact me.

TIME TRAVEL WITH MARSHALL BARNES - DEAD HAND RADIO 1
THIS IS DEAD HAND RADIO
My guest for this show is Marshall Barnes, a Research and Development Engineer. Marshall is an inventor, a musician and a brilliant thinker. He has written several papers on many fascinating topics which offer a widely different opinion on some quite controversial topics.
Suffice it to say that Marshall defends his views unequivocally and is willing to engage in open debate with anyone who disputes his findings and conclusions. This is one reason why I felt compelled to interview Marshall for this podcast.
Also, I find Marshall’s work highly relevant to the topic of this podcast. His work and his arguments offer a viable solution that could, If funded and implemented correctly, potentially solve every possible existential threat to life on this planet.
His solution… Time Travel to the past. I realize this idea seems quite radical, and potentially even ludicrous, but I urge you to hear his argument before passing judgement.
During our conversation Marshall and I discussed his hypothesis in great detail. He argues that escaping the Earth to go into space is a huge waste of time, money and resources. He believes his solution to be far more economical and potentially more viable.
Specifically he proposes to send groups of human settlements back in time to the year 12KB4 or 12,000 years ago. Roughly 10k BC which is around the end of the last ice age.
Unfortunately, the interview didn’t go quite as planned and we experienced some technical difficulties right at the beginning of the conversation. This resulted in a less than ideal audio quality and required parts of the interview to be omitted from the episode. I mention this because I don’t want you to expect crystal clear audio and then two minutes in get frustrated and leave before you’ve heard the whole conversation.
So please be patient, listen with an open mind and try to enjoy the show as much as I enjoyed creating it for you.
Whether you agree or disagree with Marshall’s views, he certainly has some unique ideas about the world we live in and the potential calamities we’re faced with, especially in these uncertain times.
Marshall and I continued our conversation for a while longer and got into some other things, but the parts I’ve shared are definitely the most relevant to listeners of this podcast, and I felt it best to keep the episode under 1 hour. If you’re interested in hearing the whole conversation, please let me know.
My sincere thanks to Marshall for allowing me to spend this time with him, and sharing his insight and knowledge with me and all of you. Anyone interested in learning more about Marshall’s work, I encourage you to read his papers at Academia.EDU, and follow him on Twitter @Paranovation.
