Setting Boundaries Can Make You Hated (and it's still worth) #holidaysurivaltipsandtricks and #holidaysurvivalguides
In this episode, I get into the f-up thing that often happens in families or friend groups when we are the ones that say NO MORE, tell the truth no one wants told, and drag those skeletons out into the open. Unfortunately, what usually happens is that the truth-teller is rejected, ostracized, and slandered because they had the audacity to not keep secrets and prop up a toxic system. It doesn't matter that everyone involved knew/knows that the person that did/is doing the damage is a terrible person, abusive, dangerous, racist, homophobic, transphobic, etc. what matters to them is you weren't/aren't willing to keep that secret - that's what they don't like! So reward and honor all the beautiful work you are doing BIG and small. You deserve all the rewards and honors for doing hard things.
There's a little surprise at the very end of this episode.

Maintaining Our Containers in Tender Times (#holidaysurvivaltipsandtricks)
This is the 5th installment of our container building #holidaysurvivalguides and #holidaytipsandtricks. We've been building for over a month now and things are getting (at least for me) more pressured, busy, and demanding on time, resources, and NOs and YESes. So let's talk about it- I don't want to pretend that I don't have days where I wonder where my boundaries went or wish I had not put so many things in my schedule, but I'm trying and using the tools, some days are just more taxing than others. In this episode, I will take us through a Somatic Experiencing exercise to help us hold and acknowledge that we have needs, wants, and desires those are human things and are normal - this exercise will help us sit with those needs, wants, and desires and express and perhaps release some of the tension that comes with not getting those met and also having them stored in our bodies. I hope you enjoy! Love, Angie

We Need To Feel It In Order To Exorcise It (#holidaysurvivaltipsandtricks)
We have been building a container to handle the demands, pressures, expectations, and all around fuckupedness that can happen in this season, and this week we add another layer, level, or stabilizer to that container because most of us (me included) can use all the help we can get. We started with Building A Container For Tender Times (creating personal mantras for this season), then we Showed Up For Ourselves In Tender Times (making a list of what we’ve said yes to around this time of year and regretted and a list of what we wished we had done instead), and now slowing down when EVERYTHING else seems to be speeding up. How, where, and when can we add slowness to our lives without added work, time, and energy? Giving ourselves the little we need so we can be more ourselves than we’ve ever been before. I hope you enjoy this series and that it's helpful to you. I'd love to hear from you and the ways you are creatively looking at this time of year. Love, Angie

Showing Up For Yourself In Tender Times #holidaysurvivaltipsandtricks
In this episode, I build off the mantra work from last week and talk about ways to make our container strong so that we can own our NOs and our YESSES with fewer regrets and resentments. Keep listening and building on what you've already been working on - creating room, space, time, moments, and awareness, and carving out the small spaces you need to do the work. It's Not Your Kryptonite
What someone thought was your biggest weakness might actually be your biggest strength. In my formative years, that thing in me was my sensitivity for others and the world and my love for the "other". My parents didn't get it and were embarrassed by it I was taught to hide it and be ashamed of it. It for them was a weakness that they considered my Kryptonite. They hated it (or at least that's how I interpreted it) unless they needed it- so I would watch out for my siblings, obey, fall in line easily, etc. That created confusion inside of me and made me hate something that was and is beautiful. What is your gift/superpower? What is the thing you've hidden away in embarrassment or shame? What is the thing that when you embrace it makes you feel the most welcome inside yourself? That's not your Kyriptonite that's your gift. In this episode, I will unpack my own fraught relationship with love and sensitivity and how I am letting it (or at least trying) take up more and more space. This isn't without boundaries! I've worked hard to trust the wisdom inside me and listen to its nudges. I hope you will too. Love, Angie

Tender Too The Touch
I am no stranger to this yet sometimes I'm still shocked that I'm angry, tired, resentful... When what I want is to give myself less judgment around my feelings and more room, gentleness, curiosity, and love. To be able to say to all the parts of myself that I'm okay. That is the work of love right? To be gentle, loving, curious, with all the parts of ourselves. Love, Angie

Ugh, It’s My Birthday Again! Can You Relate?
If I've said it once I've said it a 1,000 times my birthday makes me feel discombobulated. If you can relate you'll love this episode and if you can't relate I guarantee someone you love can and they need you to understand where they are coming from. In this episode, I will bare a little of my soul (as usual) and let you into new revelations I've had surrounding my own birthday and the street it brings me because... We all long to be loved, celebrated, remembered, etc. and that's one of the reasons birthdays can get complicated especially if you have trauma.
Please put these two events on your calendar

Everything Is Dying And Being Reborn
Everything Is Dying And Being Reborn it's the truth whether we want to admit it to ourselves or not -- we are dying and being reborn, our plans, our relationships, our bodies, etc. In this episode, I talk about my experience with this concept and the path to the BEING REBORN part. I'm not suggesting there should be optimism, bright side looking, toxic positivity, because I don't believe that there won't be grief or rage, anger or hopelessness, fear or freeze, with the loss and death and it is in the feeling and acknowledging and sitting with that a spark can be born.
Once again a reminder that this is a conversation I want to have with myself and you, it's not me finger-pointing at you letting you know I got this all figured out it's me being vocal about my process and the pain accompanying it. We/You/Me are not alone.
Give this a listen and let me know where you are on the death and rebirth continuum. Lean Toward Love
This episode is very tender for me because recently I have been doing loving work with my 8 year old self (picture in podcast art) and all the things she was told or interpreted to be true about her which in fact weren't true at all; the things that shaped me into the person I am today; the things that forced me to be an adult way before my time; to be responsible for what I should never have been responsible for; ALL OF IT. Giving that child space to breathe, laugh, love, play, be a little careless, and carefree, and give her a little more room to be fully herself. And that is what I want for you and whatever part/parts that haven't been able to be free at whatever age. I will lead you through a little meditation at the end - you as your own icon. Give yourself time, tenderness, and space to do it at your own pace or not to do it at all.

The Biodome of Us
We come into this world full of curiosity, wonder, and a non-self-consciousness as kids we play make-believe without a care in the world - we are just discovering the world around us. For the rest of our lives, I think we are attempting to get back to ourselves (except maybe somewhere in our middle years when we might care too much the world says we should be). Ultimately we want to be free again to engage the world with wonder, freedom, and the original spark that lit us up with life.
In this episode, I talk about ways to find that spark of not giving a F*ck about what other people think. And caring more about what you think. Leaning into yourself, others, and the world with curiosity and maybe even a little make-believe.

Nothing Cute About Acute Overwhelm
Every time I think we will get a little break maybe catch a breather from the constant influx of stress I am wrong and another thing or 5 come at us. It is enough to make the most enlightened human want to crawl into a hole and hide out for a while. This week has been one of those weeks so much trauma and pain happening to us and around us. I myself have felt like all I can do is put one foot in front of another and try and do only what I have to do to keep things running but not much more than just that. I have had this gnawing feeling in my belly all day every day. In this episode, I talk about acute overwhelm (what I've been feeling since Tuesday) but whatever you are feeling it can apply to that as well. I talk about how to get a little relief while in this state.
Will it change everything? No.
Will it help right now in this moment? Probably.
Will you have to try these 4 or 5 steps more than once? Sure will.
It isn't revolutionary but it is practical and often tiny steps of love, trust, care, gentleness, and softness can revolutionize our own feelings which can help us be more present with ourselves and others -- and it just might help.
Regardless of the outcome you still deserve care, attention, love, and moments of respite.
Please take care, everyone.

Give In To The Frolic
This episode is about the clichés that we say and believe but are also true- just breathe, it will look better in the morning, you can only do what you can do, etc. We may feel foolish when we say these things but there is also deep truth to be found in their simplicity. The paradox of holding simple and complex things at the same time, anger and peace, grief and joy (for more on paradox follow my friend Kathy Escobar). Feelings that seem to be opposites but there is still something new and beautiful to be found right in the middle of them. If that's not magic I don't know what is!
I also mention Myriam Joseph in this episode and her generous words to me that I continue to reflect back on- maybe those her words will help you too.
A hawk flying through the air, a squirrel holding a candy wrapper in its tiny hands, and licking the chocolate off it -- all magic. We have to take it all where we can get it, let it buoy us, strengthens us, and give us joy even if only for a moment. Every moment of magic, of noticing, of feeling, is a radical act. And I am here for it and you.
So look everywhere for moments all around you little and big.

Believing What's Invisible
This week on the pod I have brought you one of my archery students and a newish friend (to me and now you) -- Yoga therapist, Sarah Nelsen. In this episode, we talk about what brought Sarah to this Somatic practice and specifically to the demographic of those of us living with chronic illness. We don't shy away from the difficulties surrounding trying to live fully in a world that doesn't see, believe, or make space for them. The POWERFUL it is to sit, listen, hold space, and believe someone --IT'S TRANSFORMATIVE.
Sarah was also kind enough to lead me in meditation at the end of this episode. I enjoyed it and I hope you do, as well.

Finding Peace In The F-ing Middle
In this episode, I want you to come on a journey with me to figure out if it is possible to find peace in the middle of all the f-ing shit happening around us right now. Is it possible to feel what needs feeling so that we can move through those difficult emotions and not take the rage and anger out on those we love or innocent bystanders? I'm not sure but just thinking of the possibilities in today's podcast helped me not feel quite so controlled by what's happening and let peace and not peace move through me. Peace isn't the absence of strife, conflict, protesting, or advocating, peace is in the middle in the midst of it. And one way to advocate for our own peace is by feeling our feelings appropriately not bottling them up, and finding opportunities during our day--with safe people or on our own to feel what needs feeling. This doesn't have to be naval gazing for any and every feeling but just checking in with ourselves to see where we are at with what's happening at different times during the day or at the very least when we go to bed at night taking stock of how we felt during the day. Remembering we aren't alone in these experiences we are together! We aren't a few voices shouting into a void we are many! And it's not over yet.
Please take care of yourself. And remember today May 5th is Missing & Murdered Indigenous Relatives Day of Remembrance and I will be making a donation to the Urban Indian Health Institute I hope you will give to an organization of your choosing that is happening to find missing and indigenous people.

Don't Be Complicit
There are almost always swears with anything I do, so be warned if you are listening with kids or you don't enjoy a bit of spicy language.
Trigger Warning! I'm talking about abuse in this episode with no details but it might be hard for some.
In this episode, I'm relooking at what it means to be someone's believer but from a different angle - How to not fall into the trap of being complicit. First thing first when someone shares and traumatic story with you believe them! I know this might sound like a duh but you might be surprised at how often that doesn't happen. Someone says they believe you but in every action of belief, they fail you which in turn retraumatizes you (and is NOT believing you): inviting your abuser to functions that you want to attend; saying they are not taking sides which most definitely is a side and not the right side to be on(there is no middle ground where abuse is concerned); not telling you the person who harmed you will be at Christmas or any event that you are planning on attending; giving chance after chance to the person who has done all the damage and making you figure out whether you can go to something or not, call them out or not, survive it again or not, spend hours in therapy trying to find ways you can attend- All Retraumatizing.
People are so worried about hurting feelings, making waves, and causing conflict with people that have done REAL HARM but not stopping and considering what this does to the person who survived! Every event weighing their options: should I go? Can I handle it? How long will it take me to recover? What is wrong with me? Why can't they love me? Etc! Believing someone is about YOUR actions! Not so much about theirs. You not staying in relationship or the middle with people that have traumatized another person in your family, friend group, or couple friends (I realize this is more nuanced but in my situation, I think it's pretty cut and dry) is how you show BELIEF over and over again and the flip side is also true you continually inviting, including, making space for the abuser is also showing them over and over again that you think its all fine. Your actions communicate your lack of love and belief louder than anything else!
Don't invite the traumatizer to something that you have also invited the survivor to - put the survivor first! Don't make them choose whether they can go or not go, don't put them in the position where they again have to weigh what they can handle and agonize about that decision, don't put them in a position where they have to choose not to show up for their own sanity, mental health, and well being prioritize that person. A survivor of trauma is always working to survive because the trauma has radiated out into all the facets of their life because trauma doesn't just stay in the place and with the person who inflicted it trauma goes with that person wherever they are. And they are working to live and mitigate the damage trauma does. Please don't make them work even harder.
I believe you!
You are worth knowing
You are worth loving
You are worth being in this world

The YES/AND of Inner Wisdom
Welcome to season 5 episode 1 in this episode I unpack the wisdom, power, and clarity that comes from leaning into and saying Yes/And to ourselves and more importantly our inner wisdom. I've discussed Inner Wisdom in previous seasons but this is a new level and layer to unpack and get comfortable with - the idea of knowing we truly have ourselves and we can trust ourselves. We can trust ourselves enough to lay down our armor (even if just for a bit) and let others see us and let us be seen by ourselves- this is real vulnerability. I hope you will take this trust ride with me and see if we can come out of this a little less guarded, a little more trusting, and a little more comfortable with ourselves.
I mention my friend Amy Mcmullen's retreat Navigator and two previous podcasts Groomed Against Wisdom s4e15 and another one I can't locate on my Meditative Archery workshops you'll just have to give them all a listen to find it.
This podcast is lovingly created by me for you and I am so grateful you take the time to listen. Please like, share, subscribe, rate, and review. Music created by my genius partner Todd Fadel

Holding Onto Ourselves
Season 4 wrap and my 90ith episode!!! I can't believe this is the final episode of my fourth season, that I have completed 90 episodes, and other than my amazing guests have done this on my own. Yes, I have had a lot of love, encouragement, and belief along the way but to really make it happen I had to believe in myself - huge for me especially around technical stuff.
For all of you listening from the beginning, a big thank you, and for all of you who have found me more recently thank you for giving me a chance to spend time with you. I value it and you. Even though it could be said this is a made-up space and we aren't really together I am surprised almost every episode how connected I feel to you and how much I've needed this space to talk about what is important to me and hopefully I've hit on a lot of what's important to you. I will see you (hear me) all back here in February for more conversations and hopefully a little community-building, as well - if that's what you're into.
In this episode, I take you to the woods for a little walk, a little breath, and a little ritual of sorts. I know we aren't really in the woods together but this is my small attempt to take you with me. This week in my #mantrasfortherestofus the mantra was "I will hold onto myself no matter what the world brings" and in today's podcast, I will take you through some centering to help you get there. It's hard out in the world and we need all the soft and tender things we can get and give ourselves. I hope this helps and you remember that You are worth knowing, You are worth loving, You are worth being in this world. Love, Angie

My Child-self Shall Lead Me (Holiday survival tips & tricks)
Holidays are hard for everyone! We are all bringing expectations, hopes, dreams, traumas, and griefs to name just a few and they are all smooshed together to create a vulnerable and possibly reactive state.
In this episode, I unpack something that is happening in and with me at the moment. I hope this unpacking will also be helpful to you as you navigate the complexity of dealing lovingly with yourself as you also deal with others.
Please take care of yourself and remember that it is okay to take breaks- to recenter, breathe, and let the stress out. Doing these little practices can help you come out of the festivities still feeling like yourself.

Holiday Tips & Tricks - It's situational or is it?
Feelings not matching the sparkle of the season? Wondering why you don't have the happy glow and holly jolly reverie that everyone else seems caught up in? It could be that there are present sad, mad, bad, feelings that need to be felt, or maybe it's stuff squeaking out from childhood holidays past. Whatever it is it deserves our loving attention either in the moment or if that's not safe or appropriate creating safe ways and places later in the day to feel and express what needs felt and expressed. It doesn't always make sense why and where these feelings are coming from and that's okay it doesn't have to make sense. Whether it makes sense or not doesn't diminish its importance and its need to be felt and moved through. These acts of feeling could help create the space needed to help us navigate the holidays instead of being navigated by the holidays. Here's hoping you can lean into a loving space of feeling.

Holiday Pocket Protector
I always make a point during the holidays to offer you as much help as I can to navigate all the complexities that come with this season. This is my holiday pocket protector for you I truly hope it helps.
In this episode, I walk you through 3 short practices that you can try during the holidays (or tomorrow before you see family). These three practices make up a whole practice meant to help you ground, center, and embody as much of yourself as you can no matter what situations you might be facing. Keep in mind - if your family is unsafe this practice is not going to help you only limiting access will help you. If this is the case and it is a new or old revelation to you and you are now ready to look at it therapy is a wonderful way forward.

Fully Feel It (plus Inner Wisdom)
This week I'm getting into not only holiday survival tips and tricks but Inner wisdom nuggets as well. My hope is that it will help you get through these tricky times coming up in the next 2 months. It is a good idea to have a plan that will help you navigate the bombardment that sometimes happens during the holidays with family, pressures, obligations, money, boundaries, and everything else. I hope this helps even a little bit.
Also, check out Kathy Escobar & Phyllis Mathis' Podcast Soul Practice it is so full of love, life, and wisdom. And the book I'm reading and that I mention in this episode is The Toa of Fully Feeling by Peter Walker

Coming Back To Who We Are with Avril Swihart
There aren't words for how filled up and grateful I am to have gotten to snag time with this beautiful soul friend- so filled up! If you are lucky enough in your life to find an Avril you hold on to it for all your worth because they are heart friends and don't come along every day.
Avril has been through the wringer these past few years and nearly lost herself along the way
this is her...
Coming back to herself story
I'm worth it story
Reconnecting story
Self-love story.
It's not easy there is grief upon grief that has to be felt. There is inner wisdom that has to be listened to and hard things that have to be done. There is no road map because every path is different and at the end which is also the beginning there is US again and the whole beautiful painful journey is worth it.
That is just some of what we discuss here today. No quick fixes! No shortcuts! No easy answers! Just the reality of being a living breathing person trying to do right - for themselves and others.

Groomed Against Wisdom
In this episode, I go deep into the grooming we receive as children to not listen to our inner wisdom and the ways society is set up for us not to trust ourselves thus making us more easily manipulated, self-doubting, and confused. More doubt of ourselves being pilled on by society, religion, family, and pretty much any person holding a position of power in our lives.
We deserve MORE! We deserve to know ourselves and follow that true knowing- that has our best interests at heart. Knowing how to listen to the voice inside and follow it without so much stress and distrust. This voice is worth getting to know, it is worth building a relationship with, it is worth cultivating a deep trust with because it is the unconditional loving part of you, for you. I will say it again - it is the only truly unconditional loving part of us for us. And out of that deep love and knowing comes everything else.
I am also doing a fundraiser I mention at the very end of the pod. I want to purchase 6 bows and 40 arrows for more people without access to archery to get the opportunity to shoot. I will purchase and send this equipment on the #beautyheals in Colorado where I just was. If you’d like to donate Venmo me at @angiefadel don’t forget to say - for Archery. The candle and Indigenous owned and run shop I mentioned is Sage and Oats- here’s a link to those candles and that shop etsy.me/3m4JEr0

Return To Magic
What is the most magical memory you have as a child? Waking up Christmas morning? Camping under the stars? The first snowy morning of winter? A treasured book? Leaves crunching under your feet? Whatever it is and however small and seemingly insignificant bring it to your mind, sit with it and in it, take yourself all the way back to the wonder and magic that children so easily go to. In this episode, we go back to our childhood to honor our inner child who is still there and is still in touch with the fantastical, unbelievable, and ridiculous and hasn't sunk all the way into the traps of what being an adult "should" be. It is the wonder that lets us disappear in nature and still be amazed by the night sky. It is the wonder that draws people to a sunset on the beach to watch it do what it's done for millennia. It is magic and wonder that keep us finding joy, embracing some chaos, and letting ourselves be a little bit free-er. Return with me to a little bit of magic.

No Bull In This China Shop
How do we keep our peace when what we really feel is anger, hopelessness, fear, sadness, and rage? If we give our peace away how do we get it back? What are our options? In this episode, I discuss a powerless making situation that I am currently trying to manage while not totally giving all my hard-won peace away or killing the messenger. This isn't about doing the right thing or not getting angry it is about a desire to not end up on the floor a total mess or if I do end up on the floor how to get back up and give myself love, attention, and whatever I need in that moment. I want this for all of us even if it's in little fits and starts. We deserve peace.

River Meditations
I have a place like that. It's my river spot and in today's episode, I will take you there. As best as I can I lead you in three river meditations with the hope of letting shit go, breathing and releasing all the tension, and being blasted clean by the rushing river. This river has done all that and more it has cradled me, held me, and sustained me especially during this last year and a half. I hope it does that and more for you and if you haven't found a sacred spot this is the beginning of the discovery for you.

Preparing For the Unpreparable
How do we prepare for what is unpreparable while also living in trauma (which we definitely are still living in and through)? Whether anyone acknowledges this trauma or not the trauma is still there and will take time, space, and lots of healthy things thrown at it to move through it.
In this episode, I get into some ways that we can take care of ourselves, our people, and our world. There are things we can do now to help us have tools for the future no matter what that future holds. We don't have to be caught off guard by what might be coming we can take some good care of ourselves by having a mental health preparedness kit to help us know what we need and what our people need. I discuss that here.

Just Because You Can Doesn't Mean You Should
What are the crazy stories you have? Stories where EVERYTHING went wrong and you were able to find the strength to get through it, find the comedy in it, and be grateful you are now on the other side of it. In this episode, I get into a recent one of mine and a couple of oldies as well. I also discuss learning to bypass some of those situations, people, and/or organizations.
Part 2 Is the truth of what it really means to be an adult? What does real adult behavior look like? Is it really what we think it is- buying cars, houses, getting that high-powered job? I'm going to get into why that isn't what real adult behavior is at all.

Season 4 F-The Inner Critic

Love Centered With Meketta.Renee
Welcome to this beautiful interview with my new friend Meketta.Renee, I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed getting to do it. Meketta is generous from start to finish with her story, her medicine, and her person. She imbues everything she does with love, care, presence, and strong community continuity. She is what she does and what she does is her.
In this interview, we talk about her yoga practice, making medicine, how she came to be where she's at, and how those practices influence what she does and how she does it in community and in herself. She is vulnerable and leans into that vulnerability rather than backing away. It is a gift to interview someone that leans that way.
It got a little glitchy at the part where Meketta is sharing where you can find her, how you can support her, and follow all she does so please pay close attention to the links found here: Meketta.Renee's Instagram, Meketta's linktree, and last but absolutely not least her PayPal.
As always, thanks for listening please subscribe, share, rate, and review.

How Are You Doing?
With everything trying to push us back to where we were before the pandemic started I think it's a good time to take stock of where we really were emotionally, physically, spiritually, and where we are hoping to be in the future.
If I really sit down and am quiet with myself what is showing up in my body? Where am I holding tension? In this episode, I take you through a new 3 part body scan that you can either do in 1 part or you can do all 3. It will only take about 5 - 10 minutes. Here is the Body Scan I mentioned from a previous podcast.
I also lead you through a journaling prompt that can help you unlock where you were and where you are hoping to be in the future. What we had before all of this wasn't good for anyone except maybe 1% of the planet. We want more, we need more, we need better, and we are part of how it can get better for everyone not just a small part of the population but we have to know where we've been to know where we want to go in the future.

Waves Meditation
Meditate by listening to the sound of the waves lapping the shore or fall asleep to the sound of birds, waves, rocks, and sand. It is a little love note to you from me. Recorded on the beautifully raw and wild Washington coast at Miller Peninsula. I hope you enjoy the listen and you feel half as peaceful as I was able to feel.
Know that you are loved exactly as you are, no matter where you are, or what you are going through. Remember who you are. You are worth knowing, you are worth loving, you are worth being in this world.

The Power of Love
What is the secret of love and loving? And why do so few of us really know how to love and receive real love? When you read this title think The power of love by Frankie Goes To Hollywood (those of you alive in the 80's or that like old music) that's what was in my head plus a little Tina Turner and What's Love Got To Do With It.
Love can be mysterious. Love can feel selfish. Love can feel like never enough- from you or from others. But love is transformative and when we get a better grip on what it is and how to love ourselves the world looks different and how we are in the world is different as well.
That's what this episode is about. I hope you enjoy it- share it- review it- follow it- do all the things.
