Matriarch April Thomas -- Jail Sentence for Acting as a Legal Observer
April stopped to share some words when she was on her way to a meeting with Minister of Environment Nikki Sharma to ask her to intervene so that the women being sentenced in Kamloops did not have to ride, handcuffed, in a seatbelt-less police wagon over the Coquihalla in February. Nikki Sharma cried when she heard April's story, and promised to do what she could. April never heard from her again and four of the women WERE transported in police wagon from Kamloops to Maple Ridge. One sustained a shoulder injury and a concussion on the way. April was granted appeal and so was not transported to prison.
April is one of the most engaging, intelligent and brave women I have ever had the privilege of speaking with.
