A teacher at Canton Area High School has spearheaded an effort to provide donated hygiene products to students, called The Comfort Closet. October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and Dr. Rebecca Jordan, breast surgeon and oncologist at Geisinger Medical Center, talks about the advances in detection and treatment of breast cancer and will discuss the process a person who is given a breast cancer diagnosis may be going through.

So this episode is about songs that were #1 hits in the 70’s and then were remade in the 80’s by other artists.  In a few cases, the remake had just as much success as the original, but most failed to do anywhere near as good as the original.  Being as the 70’s can be thought of as the decade of the singer/songwriter, it kind of makes sense for artists of the 80’s to re-record some of these classics. This episode will feature #1 hits songs from the 70's like "Let's Stay Together" by Al Green, "Lean On Me" by Bill Withers and "Play that Funky Music" by Wild Cherry and more that were re-recorded in the 80's.

"Words of Warriors: A Message from Combat Veterans" is a FREE show Sunday, October 23rd at the Community Arts Center.  Local Veterans tell their story of before during and after the combat experience. There is a video presentation by Box of Light, performances by the Repasz Band and guest speakers, as well as a reception for veterans and their families to follow. Williamsport Vet Center Director, June Moser describes the process of making “Words of Warriors” and how the courageous veterans wanted to share their combat experiences with those of us who might not understand otherwise.

On Wednesday, October 12, 2022, the Loyalsock Township High School is proud to host the 2022 Lycoming County Marching Band Exhibition.  All eight Lycoming County High School Marching Bands will be performing their halftime shows including Williamsport, South Williamsport, Montoursville, Muncy, Hughesville, Jersey Shore, Montgomery and Loyalsock.   Loyalsock Marching Band Director Ryan Bulgarelli along with six students/members of the band visited the WBZD studio to discuss the upcoming exhibition and play a few numbers.

The 75th Anniversary of the South Williamsport Mummers Parade is October 15th at 2pm!  Coordinator, Dori Rankinen, talks about the plans for this year’s Mummers Parade which features more spectacular acts than ever, in each of the 10 divisions!  You’re invited to the South Williamsport Pool Complex Park after the parade; for food, family fun and fireworks at dusk!

In 1982, Apple cofounder Steve Wozniak created the "US Festival."  Billed as the biggest thing since Woodstock, Wozniak staged a three-day concert in the mountains of San Bernardino County, in Southern California, that featured some of the day's biggest names in music including The Police, The Cars, Pat Benatar, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Fleetwood Mac, the Grateful Dead and more.  The "US Festival" kicked off under scorching conditions on September 3, 1982.

Senator Gene Yaw and Representative Joe Hamm join the program this week to remind you about their annual Senior Citizens Expo at Community Baptist Church in Montoursville this Thursday (9:30a-1pm).   Seniors, their families and caregivers are invited to meet over 75 vendors who have information about Health Care, Elder Law, Volunteer Options, Nursing Home Facilities, Recreation, Exercise, and much more. There will also be on-site health screenings for balance, spinal and posture, and blood pressure.

The 80’s were full of blockbuster movies… Back to the Future, Rain Man, the Princess Bride and Big just to name a few.  But what 80's movie had one of the best soundtracks, even being listed on the "Best Movie Soundtracks: The 15 Film Music Compilations That'll Change Your Life" list in the Huffington Post and "The 25 Greatest Soundtracks of All Time" list in Rolling Stone magazine?  It was the soundtrack to the movie "Pretty In Pink."  In this episode, Jake looks back at the movie and soundtrack and a few songs that were in the movie but not on the soundtrack.

Rose Tatum is the volunteer manager for ENGin, and teaches us about a program that some volunteers say is the most rewarding experience they’ve ever had.
