Episode 131: Chris Hanold, House Enterprise Hockey Analyst. Stanley Cup Finals Preview!

BEERS: Chris Hanold joins the show this week! When not breaking down hockey, he’s brewing some of the best beer that Long Island has to offer at Greenport Harbor Brewing Company.  Chris reviews Moose Juice, an IPA from Great North Aleworks. Will gives a quick rave for Hopnami by Greenport, and also reviews a Twelve Guns specialty Blueberry Cobbler beer. Jake reviews a recent trip to the Sam Adams Taproom in Boston, ranking Honey Blossom in a high category for summer beers.

BUSINESS: Pat McAfee went from under-appreciated punter in school, to an NFL legend from his time with the Colts, to a host of one of the fastest-growing social media shows in the nation. McAfee recently signed a deal with ESPN, valued at 5 years, $85 million, breaking him out of a similar (and more high-paying) deal at FanDuel. Will Pat McAfee’s content change now that ESPN calls the shots? We give our thoughts.

BALLS: It’s Finals Season, and that means it’s time for Stanley Cup predictions! The Florida Panthers went on an historic run to end the year, knocking out the three best seeded teams in the Eastern Conference en route to the finals. How great has Matthew Tkachuk been, and can Sergei Bobrovsky continue his elite goaltending level? The Panthers will match up against the Vegas Golden Knights, who will make their second appearance in the Stanley Cup Finals in just a few years of existence. Who will come out on top? We also talk potential NHL relocation sites, including Houston, Kansas City, and Atlanta.

Episode 130: Josiah Didier, Captain of the Providence Bruins

Josiah Didier has been playing professional hockey for nine years, but arguably the biggest honor of his career is his current role as the Captain of the Providence Bruins.  Dids joins the show to break down the excellent regular season that the P-Bruins finished with in 2022-23.  We flash back to Josiah's time as an assistant captain at Denver under now-Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery, winning a conference tournament and playing with current NHL role players.  We discuss one of Dids' favorite moments this year - scoring two of his four goals this season on his 30th birthday against Hartford in April.  Josiah also discusses his upcoming trip to Iceland, some of his favorite golf courses around New England, and a surprising fact about B's prospect Georgii Merkulov's golf game.

In Beers, it's two Boston selections!  Jake reviews a jacked-up Mexican lager, "Cerveza Fiesta," from Night Shift Brewing in Boston's Lovejoy Wharf.  Will reviews a recent trip to Notch Brewing in Brighton, where their affinity for Czech, German & Austrian ales is second-to-none in the Boston area.  Our Business segment features a breakdown on Tom Brady's purchase of a stake in the Las Vegas Raiders, and we evaluate teams that are prime to relocate across the sports world. We finish with a recap of the Stanley Cup Playoffs so far, the potential for the Heat to go the distance, if Nikola Jokic is a top-five active NBA player, and where LeBron will end up next year.

Episode 129: Josh Dunlap & Wes Staschke, Co-Founders of Whalers Brewing Company

Episode 129: Josh Dunlap & Wes Staschke, Co-Founders of Whalers Brewing Company

This week, we got Whalers Brewing Company (6:05) on the pod! The way that Josh Dunlap & Wes Staschke met wasn't exactly the most conventional. Josh was an ex-Marine, working as a commercial fisherman and daydreaming of owning his own brewery.  Wes, an engineer by day, homebrewed at night and had toyed around taking his love for brewing to the next level.  Before either of them knew what they were about to get into, they found themselves at Craigslist meetup, vetting each other out and seeing if their dreams were aligned.  More than ten years later, they've grown Whalers Brewing Company into one of New England's most recognizable beer brands.  In this live interview at their Palisades Mill location in South Kingstown,  Wes and Josh describe their journey of creating Whalers Rise, one of the most sought-after light craft beers in the region.  We also discuss expanding to other states, their dream location to see a Whalers beer on tap, and their venture into the seltzer space.

There's plenty to be excited about in the sports world, as we turn a corner into the conference finals in both hockey and basketball.  In the NHL world, we debate if the Florida Panthers can outlast the mighty Carolina Hurricanes.  We also make our predictions for Vegas-Dallas in the West, and uncover some crazy storylines from the series' head coaches.  In the NBA, Boston has already taken a 1-0 deficit to the always-resurging Miami Heat.  Can they hold them off or is Jimmy Butler too much to handle?  We break down the conspiracies that Jimmy Butler is Michael Jordan's son.  We discuss the future of the Knicks, the Mavericks' tank job, and hopefully an incoming suspension for Ja Morant. We finish with rapid fire baseball and discuss what the MLS should do to become more relevant in the global soccer world.

Thank you to everyone who has supported, listened, and watched over the past three years of our show. We couldn't have done this journey without you! A great time to break the news that Beers, Business, and Balls has won a Gold Crushie Award for Best Beer-Related Podcast! Your favorite pod took home the hardware from the Craft Beer Marketing Awards event in Nashville earlier this week.Hall of Fame guests Dave Silverman and John Fanta join the show as is tradition every year.

We start with Dave Silverman (11:22), who makes his fourth pod appearance EVER...and fourth on BBB. Dave will be back for another year as the New England Patriots' team photographer, and we live-react to the 2023 NFL schedule breaking as we record. Dave discusses his recent travels with the New England Revolution (MLS), his recent trip to Poland, and his upcoming trip to Frankfurt when the Pats take on the Colts in November for the NFL's Germany games.

John Fanta (1:15:00) joins us for an hour of live, uninterrupted content afterwards; he's excited to defend his titles of both the most appearances on the pod, and the most beers consumed in one sitting by any guest to ever appear on BBB. It was another big year for Fanta, who covered college basketball as both a play-by-play announcer and a digital content host for FOX Sports. John was there every step of the way as the UConn Huskies made their run to their fifth National Championship since 1999; he discusses Dan Hurley's growth, the NBA upside of UConn's top draft prospects, and interviewing Bill Murray after the Huskies knocked off Gonzaga in the Elite 8.

Episode 125: Our 2nd Annual House Enterprise NFL Mock Draft (feat. Jordan Laube, Clubfoot Jim, and Sam Basel)

For the 2nd time in our history, we present our 2023 NFL Mock Draft!  Join Will & Jake with Jordan, James, and Sam as we predict the selections for all 31 picks of the first round of this year's NFL Draft.  Same rules as last year - everyone picks as the team they're assigned, with no trades to move up or down the rankings. One twist, though - the order is randomized every five picks - so in other words, each of our five guys had no idea which team they'd be assigned until right before their pick!  Which two QB's went first?  Which potential top five pick fell to #11? How many tight ends will go in the first round, and which teams could be in the hunt?  What will we see the Patriots do if they finally decide to stay in the top-half of the draft?  How do the Lions spend their two picks at 6 and 18?  Do the Cardinals make good on promises to bolster their defense?  We answer all these questions and more!

Episode 122: Spencer Morris and Maryka Gillis, Sowams Cider Works

Sowams Cider Works (10:47) - Spencer Morris was an unlikely candidate to leave his manufacturing trade and become a farmer. But when the opportunity to take over Long Lane Orchard came about, Spencer couldn’t resist. In our live interview from Sowams Cider Works in Warren, Rhode Island, Spencer is joined by Maryka Gillis to discuss the founding and future of Sowams. We learn about the history of apples in New England, especially the Ocean State’s own Rhode Island Greening, and why Granny Smith apples are overrated. Spencer takes us through how and why he started Sowams in 2018, and the process of making high-quality hard cider from scratch. We try Orchard Blend #145 (spoiler, it’s delicious) and learn why good-quality hard cider tastes more like a sweet distilled wine than an Angry Orchard. We also discuss what’s next for Sowams and where you can find their products!

Baseball is back like it never left! Opening Day is here, and we are ready for action. We make some future plays on the DraftKings Sportsbook app (play responsibly), including Aaron Judge’s home run total and Gerrit Cole’s strikeouts. We also make some parlays and wagers for Opening Day action. The Final Four is here, and if anyone had UConn, Miami, FAU and San Diego State in the final weekend, please show yourselves. Episode 121: Homer Johnsen & Chip Samson, Shaidzon Beer Company

Episode 121: Homer Johnsen & Chip Samson, Shaidzon Beer Company

When Chip Samson founded Shaidzon (23:47) with Josh Letourneau after he moved back to his home state of Rhode Island, he envisioned a cozy "garage brewery" that patrons from around the state could flock to and enjoy unique beers.  Now, Shaidzon is one of the more well-recognized beer brands in New England.  We joined Chip and Homer Johnsen - Shaidzon's Business Manager - for a discussion on their growth over the years live at their West Kingston brewery.  We discussed the early days of opening up, the origin of their signature Buffalo Czech pilsner, and the recent addition of a beer garden.  Of course, we also re-live Chip and Homer's past exciting gigs, including the handler of Colorado's own Ralphie the Buffalo.

Making waves in the Rhode Island news scene - and national basketball scene as well - was the departure of Providence's head coach Ed Cooley, who resigned to take the same role at BIG EAST foe Georgetown.  We discuss the sour taste that was left in the mouths of most Rhode Islanders after Cooley's move, how he'll be received in Friartown going forward, and who the Friars will tab as their next leader.  We break down our March Madness brackets and go over some potential upsets for the Sweet 16 & Elite 8 rounds coming up this weekend. We finish with a recap of the World Baseball Classic and Japan's monumental win - is the WBC good or bad for the sport?

Episode 120: Freddie Schwindt Live at Long Live Beerworks & Bonus NFL QB Room Segment with Jordan Laube and ClubFootJim

For the second time in our show’s history, we’re live at Long Live Beerworks! Assistant Brewer Freddie Schwindt joins us for a Wednesday evening conversation on all things beer, Philly sports, and hot sauce.  Freddie discusses his journey in the beer industry; from New Jersey, to California, back to the East Coast, it’s safe to say he’s seen a lot of this unique industry. Freddie dives into the technical details behind his job, the emphasis on cleaning, and learning from Long Live founder Armando De Dona. We also discuss what brought him to Long Live after a stop at New England powerhouse Trillium.  We wrap up with a breakdown of Philly sports - are the Eagles primed at making the next few years hell for  their opponents, or is there another team in town that will hoist a trophy before them?

In our first ever QB Room segment, Clubfoot Jim and Jordan Laube join the show to break down all things Quarterbacks. With a blockbuster trade for Aaron Rodgers looming and a holdout for the notoriously-self-represented Lamar Jackson, it’s never been a better week to dive into the quarterback situation for each NFL team. Episode 114 (January 26, 2023): Jacob Carlson, Co-Founder and CEO of EzHire Cannabis, "The Indeed For Weed"

Episode 114 (January 26, 2023): Jacob Carlson, Co-Founder and CEO of EzHire Cannabis, "The Indeed For Weed"

BEERS: We are just days away from one of our favorite events of the year...the Rhode Island Brew Fest!  We take a trip down memory lane of some of our best experiences at the state's largest beer festival and review the lineup for this weekend.  Jake breaks out a major throwback from our first RI Brew Fest in 2020, Shook Ones Vol. 5 from Greater Good in Worcester. It's an orange creamsicle beer and one of the best & most unique selections in the history of the festival.  Will joins the celebration of Moniker's two year anniversary by reviewing Pizza Beer, a partnership with a local favorite Hotline Pizza.

BUSINESS:(30:00) Jacob Carlson is revolutionizing hiring in the cannabis industry with EzHire Cannabis, or what he calls "the Indeed for Weed."  EzHire Cannabis connects candidates with opportunities in the cannabis industry, with the goal of helping talent become more than just a resume.  Jacob joins the show to discuss the platform he is building and how they're growing.  We chat about his learnings from being a top-performing salesman in corporate America, making the leap to work on his startup full-time, and his cannabis story.  We also discuss the landscape of both medical & recreational marijuana in New England & the USA, destigmatizing the industry & cannabis users,  and some of the growth plans that EzHire Cannabis has in store.

BALLS (presented by Manscaped): NFL Divisional Rounds are in the books, and we're right onto the conference championships.  The Bengals proved everyone wrong, and now are favored by a point in a rematch of last year's AFC Championship against the Chiefs - does Burrow get it done or will Mahomes get back to the Super Bowl on a sprained ankle? Do the 49ers have the most offensive weapons in the league, and can they get past an Eagles defense that made over 70 sacks this season?  We stand on our soapboxes pleading for SportsBook RI to give us a better app, and discuss the future of sports betting in New England.  We break down the Baseball Hall of Fame election and discuss how bad of a system the MLB has to put talent in the HOF.

BONUS: Make sure you say hello to our new Pod Pup, Tucker!  And maybe leave a virtual treat for him on Will's Instagram if you've read this far.

Will reviews a new take on a Portland, Maine gem, Holy Donut and their collab with Lone Pine. We preview the Rhode Island Brew Fest coming up next week. Episode 112 (January 12, 2023): Chuck Garrity, President of Death of the Fox Brewing Company

Episode 112 (January 12, 2023): Chuck Garrity, President of Death of the Fox Brewing Company

Chuck Garrity, the owner of Death of the Fox Brewing Company( 12:20), joins the show to discuss the insanity of New Jersey beer laws. The Garden State is currently home the most suffocating restrictions on breweries among any other state in the US. Laws are limiting breweries to hosting only 25 “events” per year, all of which need to be reported to the state offices 10 days in advance; restricting food trucks from serving on-site; and restricting the amount of beer that can be sold. Chuck is leading an effort to standing up to New Jersey lawmakers to reverse the restrictions and allow breweries to have their fair rights. We discuss his effort to rally the community around the cause, as well as how to support from afar.

With the NFL playoffs about to begin, we dive into some of the first round matchups. Do the Giants have enough in the tank to beat a thirteen-win Vikings team? Are the Jaguars built to withstand the up-and-coming Chargers? And can the Buccaneers, who will host a playoff game despite having a losing record, pull an upset as a home underdog against the Cowboys? We discuss some quarterback situations and what could become a bloodbath QB market next year. Finally, we finish with the signing of Carlos Correa to the Minnesota Twins.

NOTE: If you are local to New Jersey, make sure you check out the Brew Jersey series at local breweries. Brew Jersey is a call to action for all craft beer supporters, as well as a way to let elected officials know that the laws need to be changed to allow New Jersey breweries to grow and thrive within the state. 25% of the sales of Brew Jersey IPA will be donated to the Brewers Guild of New Jersey to support sensible legislation for the breweries of NJ. Or, go to www.brewjersey.beer to support.

Episode 111 (December 30, 2022): HOF Recurring Guest, Zaid Admani!

BEERS: Will visits Tree House’s new location in Deerfield and reviews some of his selections. With another location coming in the near future, we (again) discuss the impact that Tree House beer has had on the region. Jake highlights two beers from the holiday season - Two Roads’ Holiday Ale, and Sam Adams Holiday Winter - which are instant December classics.

BUSINESS: TikTok creator Zaid Admani makes his fourth appearance of the show, and we award him with his rightful Hall of Fame crown! We dive into all things Southwest Airlines - after nearly 60% of their flights were canceled throughout the USA this past week, their stock plummeted. We discuss with Zaid why we think this could be a dip that Southwest will take years to recover from. Also, we discuss the FTX saga that is ever-evolving - Sam Bankman-Fried was released on bond of $250 million, and was relegated to his parents house where he’s not allowed to leave. We recap the biggest business stories of 2022, and make some bold takes for 2023.

BALLS: Contenders & Pretenders is back, and now that the playoffs are getting closer, we make some tough decisions. Are the Eagles for real without Jalen Hurts? Are the Cowboys the new team to beat in the NFC? Can the Commanders claw their way back, and are the Chargers candidates to upset a division winner in the first round?

Episode 110 (December 24, 2022): Pat Skerry, Head Coach of the Towson Men's Basketball Team. Coach in the Car Segment.

A few months ago, we kicked off our House of College Hoops show with an awesome guest, Pat Skerry. The Massachusetts native that's been serving as the head coach of the Towson Tigers for the past 11 seasons. We discussed his New England past at Northeastern, Stonehill, URI, and Providence. We talked about the well-covered expansion of the CAA and implications it might have for the league, as well as previewed   some of the newcomers to the 2022-23 Towson Tigers.

It was a great convo and we joked about doing a segment when his team would be in Rhode Island. "Coach in the Car", talking shop in the back seat of our whip.

So months later and communication back and forth and we secured the first ever Coach in the Car with Skerry. Rapid fire hard hitting Big-J questions about his favorite Christmas songs, best CAA food venues, and more. Happy holidays and enjoy the interview!

Episode 109 (December 14, 2022): Brendan Hausen, Villanova Guard and House Enterprise Athlete

BEERS:  We go over our UnTappd "Beer in Review." One thing is clear - we either drank less, tracked less, or both.  Jake's style stayed true to his beer tastes this year, as his favorite style was American IPA's - that represented over half the beer he tracked! For Will, it was all about the doubles, as Tree House and throwbacks from Sam Adams dominated the scoreboard.  One thing is for sure - we need to get to Other Half.

BUSINESS:  Elon Musk is no longer the richest person in the world after Twitter and Tesla stocks both take a tumble. Are we going to see more of this in the future?  Also, with the fed hiking rates again, investors are in disarray with the market conditions - will we see a decline soon?  (And, yes, we'll get to FTX eventually...just hang tight).

BALLS (34:33): Villanova shooting guard and House Athlete Brendan Hausen joins the show.  The "Amarillo Assassin," as he's called, Brendan has seen a significant uptick in playing time with a few injuries to the Wildcats early.  How did he prepare himself for the opportunity and how does he see himself fitting in with the 'Cats? We also discuss his recruitment by Jay Wright, and then his re-recruitment from promising young coach Kyle Neptune.  We finish by breaking down pretenders & contenders.

Episode 108 (December 8, 2022): Kasey Dale, Rough N Rowdy Fighter

Rhode Island native Kasey Dale (20:00) makes his return to the 401 this week! The famed RNR fighter, also known as "I EAT ASS" by Barstool faithful, hopes to make it two straight RNR KO's in his home state.  We discuss how the "I EAT ASS" nickname originated, his training regiment ahead of Friday night's fight, and being on the wrong side of history for the most famed knockout in RNR so far.  We also answer the million dollar question of what's more difficult - software engineering or fighting.

Restaurant beers make their return! Laura's Bar & Grill has some of the best craft beer selections in New England, and Jake's trip this week was no different. This time, it's Ephemeral Memories from one of our favorites, Buttonwoods Brewery in Cranston. It could be some of their best work. Will & Jake break down their latest trip to Moniker Brewery, this time for the USA's World Cup playoff game last weekend.  And with Dips Dips slinging out a fire sandwich, Will reviews "Sips Sips," an ode to local food truck Dips Dips that frequents Moniker - whose beer is improving every time we go.Baseball is now officially in "hot stove" mode, with Aaron Judge finally signing his mega-contract and the rest of the dominos falling. Episode 107 (December 2, 2022): Max Goodman, Yankees Reporter - Sports Illustrated

Episode 107 (December 2, 2022): Max Goodman, Yankees Reporter - Sports Illustrated

We review our trip to Gillette Stadium for Thursday Night Football, including the surprisingly huge selection of craft beer.  The Patriots suck, but are they the worst .500% team in NFL history? Probably. Also, does Elon know what he's doing, and how hard really is Twitter to run day-to-day?

Balls (17:36): With the Winter Meetings just around the corner, SI's Yankees beat writer Max Goodman joins the podcast to break down the baseball offseason with us.  The big-ticket item, of course, is the story of prized Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge, who has just hit the free agency market and is demanding record-breaking money. Max dives into the Judge situation as we know it so far.  What was the Yankees offer, what other teams are in the hunt, and when do we think he'll put pen to paper?  We also discuss why the Yankees fell short last year, what other areas they could look to improve, and if Gleyber Torres gets shopped to other teams.

Episode 104 (November 10, 2022): RJ Kaminski, Director of Brand at Premier Lacrosse League

BEERS: Will reviews a beer from Portland, Maine favorite Bissell Brothers, which sparks a long discussion on craft beer supremacy in New England. Has Portland been de-throned as the “craft beer capital” of the Northeast? What makes Rhode Island the top contender for that crown? Can Connecticut or Massachusetts compete? Jake reviews a DC-area favorite, Starr Hill, trying Lost Leaf - a brown ale with maple syrup in honor of the start of November.

BUSINESS (22:00): RJ Kaminski was one of the OG’s to build the Premier Lacrosse League from ground zero when the Rabil brothers founded it in 2019. RJ joins the show to discuss his origins with the PLL, what he’s learned through growing and scaling the PLL’s impressions, and the role influencers & investors play in shaping the future of the league. RJ also discusses the early challenges of the league, such as getting athletes on camera and turning them into “celebrities.”

BALLS (Presented by Manscaped): Another week in the NFL means another issue of Contenders & Pretenders. A wild allegation starts kicks off the segment. Episode 103 (November 3, 2022): Peter Kiley and Joel Iverson, Monday Night Brewing

BEERS: Pizza and beer are one of the best duos on earth. But using yeast from beer to make the some of the best pizza in the South?! Only the guys at Monday Night Brewing could think such a combo. One of Atlanta’s most well-known brewing brands, Monday Night was founded on the notion that “weekends are overrated” (spoiler, we agree). Co-founder Joel Iverson and Brewmaster Peter Kiley join us to chat about the inception of Monday Night, their growth into Birmingham and Nashville, and taking home 27 separate awards this year. Of course, we also break down their journey into making pizza and their innovative idea of re-using yeast from the beer they’ve made on site.

BUSINESS: It feels like all roads on BBB led to this moment. Elon Musk is officially Chief Twit after completing his Twitter takeover. There’s already lots to discuss, like Twitter Blue opening up verification to all users at a monthly rate…or fact-checking the White House. What exactly is Elon’s end game and how will Twitter change over the next few months and years?

BALLS: NFL Contenders & Pretenders returns, and we go down a rabbit hole of just how good (or bad) the AFC East really is. Are the Jets for real? Did the Dolphins make enough moves to compete? Can the Bills go all the way? We also break down some of the big trade deadline deals, and share the disappointment of both the Giants and the Patriots’ no-shows. In baseball news, the Houston Astros and the Philadelphia Phillies are giving us a show…but now, we don’t have a clue what happens next.

Episode 102 (October 27, 2022): Big East Media Day and Barstool Sports Visit - Featuring Recurring Guests WonTon Don, Andy Katz, and Coach Ed Cooley.

Hit the road with us! We head to the Big Apple for Big East Basketball Media Day, the Yankees’ series-winning victory over the Guardians, and our visit to the Barstool headquarters in Manhattan. We take you in live to our segment on last week’s episode of Macrodosing, as The Wonton Don, Billy Football, and Arian Foster review our very own Don’s Early Light. Also making their second appearances on the show are college basketball expert Andy Katz and Providence head coach Ed Cooley. Will chats with Georgetown head coach and Knicks legend Patrick Ewing, and Jake catches up with Marquette head coach & former marshal of the cinderella-story VCU Rams, Shaka Smart. Finally, Providence’s Jared Bynum joins us to break down the Friars’ season and tells us which transfers we should keep our eyes on.

BEERS: We’re clinging onto NEIPA season like our lives depend on it. Jake tries Barewolf Brewing, a nano brewery in Amesbury, MA. This week, it’s “Pina Colossus,” which reminds us a lot of one of our HBC favorites, Grocery Store Joe - with real pineapple and notes of other fruits, this is one we’ll be looking for again. Will tries Zonk, a cannabis-infused imperial IPA from Grimm Artisanal Ales. While the high wasn’t there, the flavor most certainly was, as this is one of the more hoppy beers you can find in New England.

BUSINESS: We tease two big storylines that we’ll dive into more next week. In the ever-evolving saga of Elon Musk, he visited the Twitter HQ today, and many think it’s to evaluate who he will be laying off. What’s next? Also, Adidas cuts ties with Kanye West after his off-color comments. They’ll take a $246 million hit due to severing their partnership, but many believe they’ve actually saved themselves from more long-term losses by cutting ties with ‘Ye now.

BALLS: This week’s Contenders are playing against each other, while our Pretenders have two veteran quarterbacks struggling to continue to prove their worth. Who rises up to the challenge, and who caves? The Yankees are now out after getting swept by Houston, and it’s down to the Astros and the Phillies in the World Series. We close with poking some fun at the LA Lakers, who are the worst-shooting team in NBA history right now.

Episode 101 (October 6, 2022): Recurring Guest Con Spiracy, Spooky Szn Kickoff!

Episode 101 (October 6, 2022): Recurring Guest Con Spiracy, Spooky Szn Kickoff!

BEERS: Other Half strikes yet again with one of the highest-rated beers in our network, Green City. A 7% IPA, it’s one of those beers that just looks like a glass of cold orange juice. Jake reviews his experience when he tried Green City at a popular restaurant in Washington DC. We debate if IPA’s are becoming the “laughing stock” of social media, or if it’s just another fad. Fall is in full swing yet again, and Will ventures back to The Malted Barley to get a taste of Left Hand’s Pumpkin Spice Latte Nitro. Is there a better fall beer selection than Providence’s best beer bar?

BUSINESS: After a few months of mayhem and uncertainty, it finally does look like Elon Musk is going to be forced to go through on his $44 billion take-private deal of Twitter. The catch? Other billionaires are going in on it with him. We break down Elon’s suspect texts with other Silicon Valley elites and realize that they communicate just like normal people. A few weeks ago, we discussed Kim Kardashian’s newest endeavor into the venture capital world, and now she’s already getting in trouble…she’s been ordered to pay a fine over $1 million to the SEC after some shady dealings in crypto.

BALLS: Aaron Judge has made history, finishing the season with a record-breaking 62 home runs, the most for any player in the American League. Is that enough to keep the Yankees’ momentum going after a bye week into the playoffs? We pick a few teams that might have a sleeper chance at making a run deep into October, and wonder if the Mets or Cardinals can pull it off against the mighty Dodgers. We are bringing back “Contenders & Pretenders” this fall, and discuss who’s for real and who’s just here for the ride.

SPOOKY SZN PREVIEW (42:31) : It’s October, which means you’ll be seeing a lot more spooky content on social media…mostly thanks to Connor from @Con_Spiracy on TikTok, Facebook, and other networks. Connor, now a 3-time guest, joins us to kick off October the only way we know how - with Morbid Facts. We first discuss the Salem Witch Trials, and yes, it runs much deeper than what Hocus Pocus 2 tells us. Could “witches” just have been poisoned from a fungus in rye bread, afraid of getting attacked, or pressured by societal norms? All is on the table. We discuss the odds that vampires and sleeper cells are living among us in America. To close, we review the story of “The Man Who Killed Halloween.” This story ended up with the guilty party sitting on Death Row…and it’s well deserved.

Episode 100 (September 22, 2022): Our 100th Episode featuring The House Enterprise Team

EPISODE 100! After more than two years, we've finally reached the century mark. We can't thank all of you enough for all your support and listens since we started this show in the thick of Covid.  We wouldn't be here without all of you!

To celebrate our 100th episode, we brought back our Writers Room segment, where some of hardest working House Enterprise creators join the show. Sam Basel, Jordan Laube, Eddy Szalan, Mike Gilligan, Phil Dexter, and ClubFootJim James Mas join the pod to talk shop.

We talk some smack about our fantasy league - with Basel starting out hot and Zimmer in last place after two games, it's anyone's league for the taking.  We hop right into football and what we've all learned these first few weeks of the season. Are the Giants a new franchise after Brian Daboll's risky decisions paying off? Are the Jets going to face another dilemma?  Do the Eagles have their sights set on Titletown? And are the Pats' glory days over?

Episode 99 (September 8, 2022): Drew Carter, ESPN and ACC Network

Episode 99 (September 8, 2022): Drew Carter, ESPN and ACC Network

BEERS: Will has a field day at Long Island gem Greenport Harbor Brewing Company, and Haze Grenade takes the crown. Is GPO setting the bar for all Long Island breweries with their IPA’s? Jake brings up an old review from Rhody favorite Shaidzon; it’s a mushroom farmhouse that impresses in an unlikely collab. We discuss what the perfect “transition” beers are to get from summer to fall.

BUSINESS: In news you definitely expected to see this week, Kim Kardashian is starting a private equity company. Yikes! Is this just a fad, or is this building on the trend of celebrities & athletes taking a bigger involvement in business ventures? We also dive into the big names on the “Kardashian Cancellation Tree…” everything the Kardashian’s touch turns to gold, except if you’re cancelled.

BALLS (Presented by Manscaped): Drew Carter had great success as a student broadcaster at Syracuse, but when he graduated in 2019, he didn’t know if he’d ever get back on the Play-by-Play waves again. But just a couple of years after, he was hired full-time by ESPN as a staff broadcaster. Drew joins the show to discuss college football, Syracuse’s throttling of Louisville last week, and Alabama’s ceiling. We also discuss Ohio State-Notre Dame, Georgia’s odds to win another national championship, and if Brian Kelly’s days are numbered at LSU.

Episode 98 (September 1, 2022): Cole Hughes, Sam Basel, and Mike Gilligan of House Enterprise. Introducing "The Football House"

BEERS: Grey Sail is a Rhode Island signature beer brand - with staples like Captains Daughter & Little Sister, it's on nearly every tap or liquor store shelf in New England.  Jake reviews Flying Jenny, another solid choice for a late-summer afternoon on Block Island.  Will heads back to our friends at Moniker for Nahelles, their take on a crisp Helles lager.  Is Moniker developing a league of its own with German-style beers in Rhode Island?

BUSINESS: Every young baseball fan knew Honus Wagner's name for one reason - his record-breaking baseball card sale at over $7 million.  Now, Anthony Giordano breaks that record with his $12.6 million sale of a vintage Mickey Mantle card at a recent auction. When is the right time to sell a card like that, or should it remain purely a sentimental piece of memorabilia?  National Cinema Day is coming up, and tickets to most movies will be $3 - is this enough to get people back in the movie theaters?  With Amazon's rumored acquisition of EA, we dream of a better Madden and more realistic video games.

BALLS (presented by Manscaped): The Football House is in full swing! This fall, we'll be joined by our House Enterprise creators for the best bets and our Games of the Week.  For episode one, Sam Basel and Cole Hughes join the show, with a special appearance from Mike Gilligan!  We choose our locks of the week, including a pick from Clemson-Georgia Tech and Houston-UTSA.  We make our picks for other games around the horn, including the legendary Backyard Brawl between Pitt and West Virginia, which returns after an 11-year break.  We finish with a top five clash between Notre Dame and Ohio State.

Episode 97 (August 25, 2022): Efren Hidalgo and Mark Stone, Providence Brewing Company

Episode 97 (August 25, 2022): Efren Hidalgo and Mark Stone, Providence Brewing Company

EPISODE 97 - Efren Hidalgo & Mark Stone of Providence Brewing Company

BEERS & BUSINESS (11:45):  In 1892, Irish immigrant James Hanley founded American Brewing Company, which became Providence Brewing Company in 1896.  Little did he know that more than 125 years later, it’d be revived with a whole new significance.  In 2013, Efren Hidalgo, former web and UX designer at large corporate entities in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, saw an opportunity to combine his passion for homebrewing and small business.  In his research, he decided to honor the brand that Hanley had created; and it became Providence Brewing Company once more.  We sat down with Efren & Assistant Brewer Mark Stone to discuss the exciting new era for PVD Brewing Company, including a move to the newly-minted Farm Fresh RI complex on Sims Avenue.  Efren and Mark discuss getting evicted from their small facility in a North Providence strip mall, the innovative beer concepts they’ve released such as Slushy Beers, and the brands they’ve partnered with across New England.

BALLS (presented by MANSCAPED): Albert Pujols is proving he’s got some energy left in the tank, but does he have enough to get to 700 home runs? We bring back Contenders & Pretenders and it leads to some good debate. Is there a clear favorite in the NL? What were the Brewers thinking at the trade deadline? Astros-Yankees seems like a lock in the ALCS, but who else can hunt them down? We finish by discussing the Manti Te’o documentary.

Episode 96 (August 9, 2022): JJ Gruden - Taking The Points, Sports Betting Personality and Co-Founder of We Bet Media

Episode 96 (August 9, 2022): JJ Gruden - Taking The Points, Sports Betting Personality and Co-Founder of We Bet Media

BEERS: Two unique reviews coming from us today. Will reviews a new creation from our friends at Providence Brewing Company…and they’re “ice cold.”  Frozen beers are all the rage in the summer, and PVD’s lived up to their expectations. You can head to Providence Brewing to try either Strawberry Banana or Pina Colada!  Jake reviews Bent Water Brewing’s take on a White Ale - it was a bold attempt to Allagash’s gold standard, but how does it fare up among a great selection of Bent Water’s summer beers?

BUSINESS: After a slow week last time, we discuss two big storylines that are affecting consumers. Amazon announced its intention to acquire iRobot - or, as you know it, the maker of the Roomba smart vacuum - for nearly $2 billion.  We debate if this is a win for your smart home, or a win for “big data.”  Also, we look into what other brands could potentially be acquired this year.  In other news, if your flight is delayed longer than 3 hours, you could be entitled to financial compensation…if the DOT’s new set of regulations goes through. The DOT proposed to force all airlines to give refunds to passengers under a few different circumstances that have affected nearly everyone that’s flown these past two years. What does this mean for travelers in the near future?

BALLS (32:08): JJ Gruden, long-time listener of the Small State Big Takes podcast and now friend of the House Enterprise community, joins the show. We discuss how JJ became known as  “Taking the Points,” or “TTP,” on TikTok and Twitter.  The summer has traditionally been a boring time to bet on sports, but TTP has taken advantage of a full baseball slate by betting the unders, and has made some coin in betting on a lack of offense.  We also break down the upcoming football season: are we all out on the Cardinals? Can the Packers silence the haters? Are the 49ers a playoff-worthy team? Finally, we select our House Parlay - make sure you play along with us and bet it (responsibly) if legal in your state.

Episode 95 (August 4, 2022): Sam Basel, House Enterprise Creator and Co-Host of wOBA WonderBoys

BEERS: We review beers from three brands that have connections to the pod: Narragansett, Sam Adams, and Braven.  Will tries “Good Luck,” a collaboration between ‘Gansett and our friends at Sam Adams. It’s a malt liquor that’s aimed at honoring their shared history, and it lived up to expectations. Jake puts pen to paper and backs up the high praise he shared last week for Bushwick, given to us by our friend Brendan O’Donnell of Newport Craft. Could it truly be the perfect summer beer?

BUSINESS: A pretty slow news week has us mulling over all kinds of topics.  In Singapore, a brewery is experimenting with treating sewage water to make beer, becoming one of the first of its kind in the entire world. We debate if we would trust drinking beer if we knew where the water really came from. Also, in a shocking move, Robinhood announced it will lay off 23% of its employees…what’s the motive for Vlad Tenev?

BALLS (30:14): Sam Basel does it all; the King of A-10 Twitter, College Hoops guru, and Mets loyalist. Today he hops on with us to talk all things MLB with the trade deadline making waves this week.  We discuss the Mets and their failure to make any noteworthy moves, and the Yankees making improvements in the outfield & the starting rotation. We each declare winners and losers: spoiler, they might not just be teams!

Episode 94 (July 26, 2022): Brendan O’Donnell, CEO of Newport Craft & Audrain Hospitality Group

Episode 94 (July 26, 2022): Brendan O’Donnell, CEO of Newport Craft & Audrain Hospitality Group

BEERS & BUSINESS (7:38) It’s been over a year since an all-time guest, Brendan O’Donnell, joined the pod, so we took the trip to Newport to catch up!  Newport Craft is in the midst of one of the most exciting transformations in Rhode Island’s craft beer history. They plan to triple in size by adding a beer garden with views of the Pell Bridge, a parking lot with room for over 200 cars, and a large space for lawn games. Brendan discusses the transformations that are underway, how they’re maintaining - and growing - the brewery, and the game-changing benefits this will have for the beer industry in Rhode Island, New England, and beyond. We also discuss some of the recent additions to the Newport Craft & Audrain portfolio, and some of the spots you can see the Audrain portfolio around Rhode Island.

BALLS (presented by Manscaped): The MLB trade deadline is one of the most exciting times in sports, and it’s just days away! We discuss if the Red Sox should buy or sell, and if Rafael Devers or Xander Bogaerts will be in Boston in 2023.  We also break down the Yankees’ needs to become the championship team that they long to be.  Of course, there’s also Juan Soto.  Will the phenom they call Childish Bambino head to another team this week?  We finish with the recent news around the Celtics’ wild trade offer to bring Kevin Durant to Boston.

Episode 93 (July 12, 2022): Kevin Chipman & Chirag Vyas, Founders of St. John's Brewers and Kind Grade LLC

BEERS & BUSINESS (5:32): Chirag Vyas and Kevin Chipman took a plunge and it paid off.  Chirag was a scientist at NASA in California, and Kevin was a physical therapist in Greater Boston.  But their lives changed forever when they traded in their 9-to-5 careers and moved to the US Virgin Islands in search of more in life. After bussing tables, tending bar, and paying a local $250 to sleep on his abandoned sailboat, Chirag & Kevin found their opportunity to break through: craft beer.  15 years later, St. John’s Brewers is one of the most popular Caribbean-area breweries.  Now, Chirag and Kevin venture into the cannabis space. They join the pod to discuss Cool Out, one of the only Delta 8-infused seltzers on the market, and it’s available to drink now!  Chirag & Kevin discuss their innovative product, their plan to get it on the shelves of American consumers, and what’s next for more Delta 8-infused products.

BALLS (presented by Manscaped): Heinz Field, the home of the Pittsburgh Steelers, has changed its name to Acrisure Stadium, ending a 21-year deal that made everyone’s favorite ketchup vendor the brand of a well-known stadium. We debate what the worst sports venue name changes have been over the past few years.  In MLS news, one of England’s best - Wayne Rooney - was announced as the new manager of DC United, a club that he played for for 3 seasons.  We discuss the growth of American soccer, and if it’s a good or bad thing that legendary English players are the face of the MLS. We finish with breaking down the MLB All-Star rosters, the early favorites for the Home Run Derby, and if Albert Pujols can hit the 700 mark before his retirement at the end of the 2022 season.

Episode 92 (July 7, 2022): Tyler Morin, Founder of The Water Coolest

Episode 92 (July 7, 2022): Tyler Morin, Founder of The Water Coolest

BEERS: Jake reviews another St. Louis beer, recapping his trip from last week. Square One Brewery & Distillery is in the heart of STL’s Lafayette Square, where it feels like there are more French-style houses than people. Their Single Malt Scotch Ale was the drink of choice, and it turned out to be a pleasant surprise. Will reviews a trip to Long Trail’s facility in Vermont. Despite the struggles to physically get into the taproom, he enjoyed Juice'd, one of Long Trail’s few hazy IPA’s, and it lived up to the hype.

BUSINESS (13:17): Tyler Morin knew he was onto something when he decide to mass-distribute digestible, easy-to-understand business content to young professionals over email. He made his passion a career when his newsletter, Water Coolest, was acquired by Barstool Sports.  Now, Tyler is leveraging the massive platform of one of the most recognized brands in America to take his content to the next level. Hear from Tyler as he takes us through his journey of leaving his day job, his new endeavor in “The Family Office,” and the best thing to order at Colony Pizza in Fairfield, Connecticut.

BALLS (presented by Manscaped): The Carolina Panthers have finally acquired Baker Mayfield after what seemed like months of rumors circulating. What are Baker’s chances of being QB1 in September?  In the college world, UCLA and USC shook the world this week when they announced they’d be heading to the Big Ten, leaving their longtime hosts in the Pac-12.  Is this the right move and who’s next?  We fill out our ballots for the MLB All-Star game and reminisce on some old powerhouse baseball teams.

Episode 91 (July 1, 2022): Sean Quirk, Head Coach of PLL’s Cannons LC

Episode 91 (July 1, 2022): Sean Quirk, Head Coach of PLL’s Cannons LC

EPISODE 91 - Sean Quirk, Head Coach of PLL’s Cannons LC

BEERS

The traveling doesn’t stop!  Will reviews a beer from the cruise a few weeks ago, and he goes for another Hefeweizen. Floridian by Funky Budha is the choice this week. A smooth and refreshing wheat beer is filled with citrus notes and flavors. This week, Jake is in The Gateway to the West: St. Louis, Missouri. While the beer isn’t as good as it is in New England, there were some bright spots in the craft scene in the STL area. Shortleaf Brewing Company (formerly Petrichor) was on the list of spots, and a 11.1% Imperial Samoa Stout took the cake for best beer on draft at the small micropub in the Winghaven neighborhood of O’Fallon.

BUSINESS

Air New Zealand will have bragging rights to the longest commercial flight in the world later this year when they launch a 17-hour haul from Auckland to New York City.  To keep travelers from going stir-crazy they’ve come out with a model that would allow their passengers to rent bunk beds during their flights. The catch? Not only does it come at an additional cost to your regular seat, but you get kicked out after only 4 hours! How will this play with long-haul travelers?  In the social media world, Snapchat Plus is hitting the market this summer. For $4 per month, you can get access to features like seeing who re-watched your story and pinning your top friends as a BFF. Is this a flop or a good idea?

BALLS, presented by Manscaped (33:14)

Sean Quirk led the Boston Cannons to the final Major League Lacrosse Championship in 2020, and earned the franchise a bid to the Premier Lacrosse League the next year.  But, like many in the sport of lacrosse, his journey began far before he dreamed of calling the shots on the sidelines for the greatest players in the world.  Coach Quirk joins the show to discuss his decorated career as an All-American goalie, his D3-record coaching stint at Endicott, and the lessons he’s learned along the way.  We also discuss coaching Paul Rabil & Lyle Thompson, how far the PLL can go, and lacrosse’s potential to crack America’s major sports.  We finish with Rapid Fire - the Yankees, Kyrie Irving, and the Colorado Avalanche lifting Lord Stanley are all on the hot stove.

Episode 90 (June 21, 2022): Recurring Guest, Zaid Admani, Finance Content Creator @Admani_Explains

BEERS: We start things off discussing pros-and-cons to cruises and the all-you-can-eat and drink packages. Jake, who’s been on the road for the first few weeks of June, hit Charlotte, NC a few weeks ago, and the findings are stellar. He reviews Wooden Robot, a popular Charlotte beer brand, and Pineapple Cherry Pool Pounder took the crown for “best sour from a new brewery in 2022.”  We debate Charlotte’s ranking in the USA craft beer scene.  Will, fresh off a cruise to Bermuda, stopped in Virginia, where he got to board the American Rover ship.  He had time for a can of 3 Sheets to the Wind, an exclusive you can only get on board. We debate if exclusivity plays a role in Untappd rankings.

Business (24:42): Our favorite business content creator, Zaid Admani, is back!  One of BBB’s only three-time guests returns in one of the weirdest times in recent memory. We break down all things Bear market - why did the market overperform in the first place, and why is it slowing down at a record pace? What basic things should the everyday American change about their investment/savings strategy? In this week’s Crypto Corner, we debate whether it’s time to panic or time to buy.  We also discuss the impact of the Fed increasing their interest rates to a record-high percentage.

Balls (Presented by Manscaped): Lots of activity over the past few weeks, as the Warriors win yet another NBA title: this time, on the TD Garden court.  Where do the Celtics go from here, and why was Tatum getting so much hate? We break down some possible selections for the NBA Draft, including Jaden Ivey’s potential match made in heaven with the Knicks. We dive inside the Yankees’ incredible 50-17 start to the year, evaluate some trade candidates, and tease some All Star selections.

Episode 89 (June 1, 2022): Morey Hershgordon, Sports Director of WPRI 12 | NBA Finals Preview

You’ve probably seen Morey Hershgordon on a cable TV near you, and this week he takes his talents to BBB!  Morey has been covering the Celtics all year, and gives us the rundown on what to expect from the Celtics-Warriors NBA Finals series scheduled to start this week. We discuss what’s changed to propel the Celtics from a sub-500 team to the team to beat, what first-year head coach Ime Udoka has brought to the table this year, and their balance of young superstars & veteran leadership.  Morey gives us his thoughts on the strengths the C’s have to beat the Warriors, but also the areas they need to perform better in.

We hit the road yet again this week, but this time Will took his beer reviews to a different continent!  Will gives us the recap on a week in Dubai, including his review of Kingfisher Premium Lager.  Humble brag, he did drink it on the top of the world’s largest building, which may have gave it a couple of notches of a higher rating.  Jake reviews a weekend in Portland, Maine; is it still the craft beer capital of New England?  His review this week is Black Barn Program No. 32 from the crown jewel of the state, Maine Beer Company…it stacks up nicely for a wheat beer.

Episode 88 (May 20, 2022): Lights Out Bobby Laing, Undefeated Rough N' Rowdy Heavyweight Champion

BEERS: We haven’t done a live episode in a hot second, so to celebrate we review some beers live too! Will reviews a Finback-Narragansett collab in “Neighbor Neighbor,” a sea salt lager to kick off Summer Beer Season. Jake reviews Whammy, a double dry hopped IPA from one of New York’s finest, Singlecut Beersmiths.

BUSINESS: What better way to transition segments than a “beer business” story?  Nothing like a LaGuardia Airport story to piss everyone off! Apparently a restaurant at New York’s worst airport is accused of price-gouging after multiple merchants were charged $27 for a Sam Summer Ale. Is this intentional or an honest error?

BALLS (25:30): Bobby “Lights Out” Laing is Rough N’ Rowdy’s favorite fighter, and for good reason. The Pride of Braintree, Massachusetts is an undefeated 6-0 in RNR fights, including a beatdown in Providence back in 2019. This week, Lights Out looks to clean the clock of Big Dick Booty Daddy, who’s had quite the mouth in preparation of the fight. Bobby talks with us about training, preparation, and his Tale of the Tape podcast.

Episode 87 (May 11, 2022): Recurring Guests and House Enterprise Creators, The Hosts of The Small State Big Takes Podcast

The House Enterprise collab you've been waiting for. Our guys at “Small State Big Takes” join the show!  It’s been over a year since Mike Gilligan and Oliver Martel hopped on our show to talk college hoops back on Episode 43, and now Stephen O. Scott joins in on the fun.  The guys start off with baseball, and SSBT is not happy about the Red Sox’ season so far.  Where do the problems begin, and how do they get solved? Where will Xander Bogaerts end up?  Who should be the closer?  We move to the Yankees, where two big questions stand out: does Aaron Judge stick around, and is it World Series or bust?  We make our House Parlay for baseball picks this week, and although it’s a long shot, we’re all in.  We finish with NBA talk: everything from the Celtics and trading Russell Westbrook to the Knicks, to a potential LeBron swap to Oklahoma City.

Episode 86 (May 3, 2022): Frank “The Tank” Fleming, Barstool Sports

Episode 86 (May 3, 2022): Frank “The Tank” Fleming, Barstool Sports

Frank “The Tank” Fleming, Barstool Sports (39:00 mark)

BEERS: It’s back to Boston this week, as we both take a crack at some of the City of Champions’ most popular spots.  Jake stops at North Shore favorite Lord Hobo’s new location in Seaport, and comes home with an exclusive mixed four-pack that can only be purchased at their location. This time around, it’s “DROP,” a milkshake double-IPA.  It’s got punch, it’s got flavor, and it’s got substance…what will Jake’s rating be?  Will talks the Trillium Fort Point dilemma; while it’s full of good craft beer to please everyone’s appetites, it’s become a bit too much of a “pregame” spot for all the wrong reasons.  Really Big Bird, however, is a HUGE standout beer that is definitely contributing to the out-the-door lines.

BUSINESS: In our two years of podcasting, we feel like every single business segment has been leading to this. Elon Musk has officially reached a deal with Twitter, buying the social media company for a whopping $44 billion. How did the king of memes - the same guy who built two of the most promising companies in Tesla and SpaceX - become the owner of social media’s biggest platforms?  We discuss the Paypal Mafia, who could potentially be in Elon’s C-Suite, and make bets on when (or if) this purchase actually goes through.  In other news, Amazon has seen better days - they’re down 26% in the past month alone due to labor crises, supply chain issues, and a disappointing earnings call.  Is now the time to buy Amazon stock, or has the window come-and-gone?

BALLS (presented by Manscaped): It’s not every day you get the chance to talk with a character like Frank “The Tank” Fleming.  From soda & hot dog reviews, to tireless rants about the Mets & Nets, you’ve seen Frank’s musings on social media before.  We discuss how far the Mets can go, why “Steve Trash” should be fired in Brooklyn, and who the New Jersey Devils should be building around in the coming years.  Frank also needed to express his extreme dissatisfaction with NJ Transit.  In other news, the Yankees are the hottest team in baseball, and they’re right up there with their Big Apple counterparts in the Mets.  We debate if we actually want a Subway Series Fall Classic.  We also give our NFL Draft recap and declare our draft winners & losers.

Episode 85 (April 26, 2022): 2 Year Anniversary! Featuring Hall of Fame Guests David Silverman and John Fanta

Episode 85 (April 26, 2022): 2 Year Anniversary! Featuring Hall of Fame Guests David Silverman and John Fanta

Our two-year anniversary is here!  We cannot thank our loyal listeners enough for two years of support, love, and listens. We started this podcast as a passion project in the early stages of Covid, and with your help, have grown it to new heights. We'll always stay true to our core of discussing some of our favorite things: craft beer, the latest business news, and sports & entertainment across the world.  Thanks for listening, we love you all!  We bring back two all-time guests to celebrate our two years of existence, and we crown them House Enterprise Hall of Famers.

Dave Silverman (3:04)  nearly had his livelihood as a sports photographer taken away from him when Covid hit.  Now, two years after he became the first ever BBB guest, he rejoins the show with too many gigs to count.  We discuss going zero-to-a hundred after sports started again, the Patriots' future with Mac Jones, Tom Brady's dilemma in Tampa Bay, and much more.

John Fanta (57:21) is everyone's favorite college basketball announcer, and for good reason.  After years of hard work, he found his way to millions of cable TV sets this year, getting the call for nationally-televised broadcasts of Big East basketball this year.  We welcome John back to the show as a four-time guest.  John tells us the stories of his favorite basketball moments this year, including breaking the news of Jay Wright's retirement and calling games with legendary analyst Bill Raftery.  We discuss Cleveland sports, the DeShaun Watson & Baker Mayfield saga, and the NBA's problem with effort. Fun fact: John also holds the record for most beers consumed in an episode, but sadly that record was not touched today.

POSITIVITY CORNER: Charlie Capalbo showed the world what it meant to be a fighter.  The 23-year-old passed away on Sunday after a five-year battle with cancer, but left a lasting impact on the world for all across the nation to remember. We shine light on the incredible stuff that Sigma Chi at Bryant University is doing this week to becoming 'The Generation To End Cancer'.

Episode 84 (April 19, 2022): Adam Alpert, Co-Founder of Pangea.app

Episode 84 (April 19, 2022): Adam Alpert, Co-Founder of Pangea.app

BEERS: Brato Brewhouse in Boston is putting a new spin on New England IPA’s. Will tries Brighton Hoppy #7, which holds its own for a new style of IPA. Can NEIPA’s with Eastern European influence make a solid beer? Jake returns to Dockside Brewery in Milford, Connecticut, and they’ve loaded up their menu. Docksicle is the selection today, and it’s a beauty. Should all breweries have the food menu that Dockside does?

BUSINESS(26:23): We wrap up our Founders and Friends live interview series! Adam Alpert knew there had to be a better way to leverage the amount of talent coming from colleges. So he built Pangea.app, a freelance market connecting college students with opportunities. Adam and the guys discuss building an app, going through Y Combinator, and what’s next for Pangea.

BALLS (presented by Manscaped):  Week 2 of the MLB is in the books. What did we learn? For Jake, it’s that the Mets are (regrettably) good. For Will, the Dodgers are coming into their own as possibly the best team we’ve seen in years. We discuss the Yankees’ less-than-ideal start to the season and what’s making them so horrible. We also select our Cy Young favorites. Plus some NBA playoff coverage and a hat tip to DPOY Marcus Smart.

Episode 83 (April 12, 2022): Founders and Friends Live Show Part 4 and Behind The Brewery Bockfest Interview Series Finale

EPISODE 83: Moerlein Lager House & Forbes 30-Under-30’s Pierre Lipton of 1440 Media plus The BBB Pod turns 2!

BEERS (9:34): While prohibition closed the doors of many breweries in America, it only made the story of the Christian Moerlein brand stronger.  We sit down to discuss the evolution of Moerlein beer with head brewer Curtis Eulberg and Brewers Association member/award-winning homebrewer Roxanne Westendorf, live from the Moerlein Lager House at Riverfront Park in Downtown Cincinnati.  Bavarian immigrant Christian Moerlein loved to brew hearty European beers, and his product quickly made its way across the world. While prohibition halted most new beers in the early 1900s, Moerlien couldn’t be stopped; they re-opened in 1981 and pioneered the resurgence of craft beer in Cincinnati. We discuss with Curtis & Roxanne the importance of staying true to the original German recipe, the location in downtown Cincinnati, and the different Bock-style beers from the weekend.

BUSINESS (43:10): Forbes 30-Under-30 winner Pierre Lipton was troubled by the fact that two people of slightly differing beliefs could have fundamentally different understandings of what’s happening in the world, in large part due to their media diet. So in 2017, he founded 1440 Media, a free direct-to-email newsletter to make the news fact-based and easy to digest.  1440 Media saw $7 million in revenue in 2021, but they’re not done growing. Pierre sits down with us live from Long Live Beerworks in Providence to discuss his explosive growth and the future of 1440 Media.

BALLS (presented by Manscaped): Kansas makes history by staging a 15-point comeback in an epic National Championship game. The Bryant Bulldogs make a mark of their own, though, landing some key transfers thanks to Peter Kiss’ ambassador skills. Now that baseball is back, we revisit our picks from last week. Are the Dodgers really that good? What’s in store for the Yankees after an opening series win over the Red Sox?  We make our picks for Rookie of the Year.  25-year-old Scottie Scheffler is on a tear, and his latest stop is the Masters. Is Tiger Woods overdue to hang up the golf shoes?  We close with predictions for the NBA Playoffs.

Episode 82 (April 4, 2022): Chris Duhon, NCAA Champion & Former NBA Point Guard

Episode 82 (April 4, 2022): Chris Duhon, NCAA Champion & Former NBA Point Guard

BEERS: Revival is both one of Rhode Island’s staples and up-and-coming locations. Now, with new beers and a new buzz, Will tries the brand-new Extra Thirsty IPA. At 10.5%, where does this stack up among the region’s triple IPA’s? Everyone loves Trader Joe’s, and we’re no exception, so Jake takes a crack at one of their thirteen beers you can find in a state where alcohol in grocery stores is legal.  Josephsbrau PLZNR is today’s choice, and while it’s certainly not the best pilsner on the market, Jake’s glad he tried it.

BUSINESS: It’s been a long while since we’ve had any significant Amazon news, but the recent vote by its front-line workers might have just made up for it.  Amazon’s Staten Island warehouse will be the first in company history to unionize, and it’s sending ripples across the world. Amazon has fought labor unions in its workforce, but now it faces a critical dilemma and still remains at the forefront of the labor crisis - will this throw lead times, staff, and same-day-deliveries into a spiral? Also, we crown our first Entrepreneur of the Week to a German man that was vaccinated 90 times so he could sell the vaccination cards. Kudos…

BALLS (27:31): Former NBA player and Duke National Champion Chris Duhon joins the show. We discuss his journey to getting a full scholarship at Duke, being recruited by Coach K, and winning the national championship with Carlos Boozer & Jay Williams in 2001.  Chris tells us some of the lessons he learned from Coach K, his philosophy on how the Duke teams should operate, and some of the things that truly make him the best coach of all time.  We also discuss his 9-year NBA career as a reliable point guard, including on the 2012-13 “Superteam” LA Lakers with Kobe Bryant.  Now an assistant coach at Bryant, Chris tells us about the Bulldogs’ first ever conference championship in March, and his first time back at March Madness since 2004.  We close the show with a recap & predictions for the NCAA title game on Monday night, and preview the beginning of the MLB season.

Episode 81 (March 29, 2022): Founders and Friends Live Show Part 3 and Behind The Brewery Bockfest Interview Series

BEERS (11:42) : Our Cincinnati journey continues! For our next stop, we hit a local (and even national) favorite in Rhinegeist Brewery. Located in the historic Over-The-Rhine district, Rhinegeist’s home was a pre-prohibition bottling plant, and has since evolved into a beer brand loved by Ohioans across the state. Assistant GM Aislinn Brown and Director of Education Chris Shields sit down with us over a few pints of Rhinegeist beer. We discuss the role that Cincinnati played during prohibition and the German influence on the taproom & beer style. We also try Rhinegeist’s flagship IPA, Truth, which made the list of top 100 beers in the world in 2014.

BUSINESS (41:34): Bradley Adams and Ali Bozzutto found a real problem upon which they built Aerogami - the accessibility of information.  Picture this: you get into a small fender-bender, and you exchange information with the other party. But there’s only one problem; since you have your insurance policy information on the app, and you’re in an area with no service, you don’t know your policy number!  Aerogami’s products aim to solve many different challenges in a “no-code” fashion - from travel and insurance to public safety. We chat with Bradley and Ali at the Founders & Friends event at Long Live Beerworks in Providence, RI.

BALLS (Presented by MANSCAPED): The Final Four…er, the Blue Bloods Classic…has arrived!  Kansas, Duke, Villanova, and North Carolina are the last teams standing in a year that’s featured more mayhem than recent seasons. Duke and UNC are set to meet for the first time in March Madness history; what kind of fireworks should we expect? Is this Coach K’s destiny? Can Villanova get back to the championship? Now that baseball’s within reach, we set the stage for the return of the MLB.

BBBBONUS: If you have a phone, you saw Will Smith slap the shit out of Chris Rock. Staged or real?

Episode 80 (March 22, 2022): Founders and Friends Live Show Part 2 and Behind The Brewery Bockfest Interview Series

Two Part Interview: We continue our coverage of the Founders and Friends live show, plus we kickoff our interview series from Bockfest.

Beers (10:53):  Everybody knows the conglomerate called The Boston Beer Company.  For the common beer drinker, Boston Beer (and Sam Adams) isn’t a name you’d associate with Cincinnati. But for the local community, it’s one-in-the-same.  Jim Koch, the founder and craft beer pioneer, grew up in the Queen City, where his father and grandfather were both employed at local breweries. In 1997, Koch purchased a brewery; and years later, the Sam Adams Tap Room opened in the heart of the Over-The-Rhine district in Cincinnati. General Manager Keith McEly sat down with us as our first interview of the Bockfest weekend to discuss the origins of Sam Adams and the Boston Beer Company, which run straight through the Queen City.  Keith also shared the rich history of “Utopias,” a special beer collection, the importance of getting involved in the local Cincinnati community, and what’s next for the Sam Adams brand.

Business (35:26): Every founder has a story, and Mike Neilan's story comes from an accident. After a skateboarding injury that took him out, Mike picked up a camera in 2009 and hasn't turned back since. With a new passion, Mike went to college, gained experience, built his portfolio, and years later met his Co-Founder (ironically named Mike). The two met at a job and instantly hit it off. They knew their talents meshed well, and were ready to make a brand for themselves. It wasn't until 2018 where their dreams became a reality. Now a few years later, over 50 clients worth of work, a new office space, and a team being built, Focus Forward Media has taken the Ocean State by storm. We sit down with Mike to talk about starting a company in Rhode Island, how to take a leap of faith, and what the future looks like for Focus Forward Media.

Balls: It’s bracket busting season! One thing is for sure…even after the season that we cover the most basketball, we’re just silly little bloggers with our silly little opinions in the end. We break down our brackets so far, discuss some of the big upsets (shoutout St. Peter’s), and gaze into the crystal ball for the future. We also dive into NFL and MLB free agency, and drop our favorite signings and biggest surprises.

Episode 79 (March 14, 2022): Founders and Friends Live Show Part 1 + Bonus Bryant Hoops Preview

THREE-FOR-ONE: Founders and Friends Recap Episode Part 1 and Bonus Bryant Hoops + Live Reaction of the Yankees trade
BEERS (4:32) : It’s not every day that a titan of the New England beer industry is willing to discuss their craft. In this week’s episode, we sit down with Veronica Pesak, the Taproom Manager at podcast favorite Long Live Beerworks. We discuss some of the new beers Long Live has been brewing, the importance of adapting and finding new customers (especially during COVID’s early days), and some future plans for Long Live Beerworks.
BUSINESS (15:33): Nick Cianfaglione dropped out of Bryant to take the entrepreneurial plunge. When we last chatted with him in 2021, he was the Founder of Artist Republik, a revolutionary product for the music industry…and now, he’s been acquired and enjoying the proverbial 9-to-5 life. Nick is giving back to the startup community that helped him launch his venture by founding StartupRI, a group for founders based in Rhode Island to collaborate and share ideas. We discuss his future plans live from Long Live Beerworks.
BALLS (37:10) : For the first time in program history, the Bryant Bulldogs are Northeast Conference Champions! America’s favorite walk-on Timmy Kiggins joins the show after a few days of celebrating to take us through the last few days of life as a champion. We discuss what he’s learned from working with the nation’s leading scorer in Peter Kiss, what it means to be a crowd favorite, and the attitude in the Bryant locker room that’s prepared them for March Madness. The Bulldogs travel to Dayton to take on Wright State in the First Four; the winner gets a tough test against #1-seed Arizona.

Episode 78 (February 23, 2022): Gary Goldberg, CEO and Founder of SquadLocker

Episode 78 (February 23, 2022): Gary Goldberg, CEO and Founder of SquadLocker

BEERS: Will took an excursion to Tree House’s Cape Cod location. While the vibe didn’t match the original Tree House, it was definitely an experience to remember.  He had Galactic Storm Peach, Very Hazy Mango, and Oreo And Miles To Go Before I Sleep, all with some raving reviews.  Jake took it up to Massachusetts, too, and Notch Brewing in Salem was this weekend’s selection.  We can’t remember when the last time either of us has had a Dunkel, but Voll Projekt Dunkel Weisse breaks the curse and has some surprisingly good tastes.

BUSINESS: Gary Goldberg was a third-generation textile manufacturer who knew the ins-and-outs of the industry.  When he realized that the sports industry was “stuck in the 90’s,” he knew something had to change. Enter SquadLocker - Rhode Island’s #1-ranked startup - disrupting the hyper-local, intensely-fragmented athletic apparel market.  Gary discusses the growth of SquadLocker from an apparel manufacturer to a tech leader, raising more than $40 million, and adding former Super Bowl winners & pro athletes to the team.  SquadLocker is the official merch partner of House Enterprise. (12:00)

BALLS: Was the Super Bowl boring or good? We discuss our performances at the kiosk, and what wagers paid off.  With baseball seemingly at a standstill, all eyes are on college basketball. We break down Juwan Howard’s suspension for hitting Greg Gard in the face.  We also discuss the current Big East standings, and with 2 wins to go for the regular season title, Providence is in the driver’s seat after Villanova’s loss to UConn on Tuesday.

Episode 76 (February 11, 2022): RI Brew Fest recap! Feat. Founder, Matt Gray

We recap an amazing time at the Rhode Island Brew Fest this past weekend. The final count was just under 70 tasters of beer over the many vendors in attendance!  We each shout out some of our favorites from the weekend - including a light coffee porter, a juicy New England IPA, and a cucumber lime seltzer from a popular RI beer company.  We also catch up with Matt Gray, the founder of the RI Brew Fest & Ragged Island Brewing Company, to discuss the significance of this event to local breweries and what’s in store for the future.

The Super Bowl is finally here! Who are we backing on Sunday? Can Joe Burrow ride his nationwide fame to a victory, or will Matt Stafford finally get the ring he’s been chasing his whole career? We break down some must-bet props that you should be considering at the window this week.

Episode 75 (January 30, 2022): Jesse Cole, Owner of The Savannah Bananas

Episode 75 (January 30, 2022): Jesse Cole, Owner of The Savannah Bananas

BEERS:  All snow storms are just an opportunity to try some craft beers deep in the fridge. With almost 2 feet of snow coming down in Rhode Island and Will’s birthday this weekend, we jumped right to the task. Will reviews Winter Warmer from our friends at Moniker - it’s a different take on one of the most popular cold-weather beer styles in the region with a hint of hot peppers. Jake gives his review on Rhode Island powerhouse Grey Sail’s take on an eggnog beer - “Kegnog” - and has mixed reviews.

BUSINESS: Fifteen years ago, Jesse Cole (18:23) went to play baseball at a small school in South Carolina. Now, he’s the brains behind one of America’s fastest-growing baseball brands.  The Savannah Bananas are rewriting the rules on what it means to be a sports team; they sing their walk-up songs, they take batting practice on stilts, and they dance the night away…all during the game.  Jesse Cole, who has owned the Bananas for 6 years now, joins us this week to discuss how he turned a failing minor league team into the greatest show in baseball.

BALLS: We’ve finally got a Super Bowl matchup.  In a crazy weekend of football, the Bengals took advantage of their opportunity and picked off the Chiefs in overtime - RIP Jackson Mahomes!  Meanwhile, the 49ers couldn’t add onto their streak of beating the LA Rams, and are going home empty-handed, while the Rams will become the second team ever (and second straight, too!!) to play a Super Bowl on their home field. We give our gut reactions to the Rams-Bengals matchup.

Episode 74 (January 24, 2022): Jesse Palmer, Host of The Bachelor

Episode 74 (January 24, 2022): Jesse Palmer, Host of The Bachelor

We’re bringing “Bachelor with a Bro” to the BBB Pod!  You know Jesse Palmer (13:40) from his days as a backup quarterback in the NFL, and his studio analysis for College Football on ESPN.  Now, he ventures off into hosting one of the most popular reality shows in the world! Jesse joins us to discuss what’s on tap for Season 26 of The Bachelor, as former pro football player Clayton Echard searches for love. Jesse teases some of the major storylines to look out for in this week’s episode, and leaves a trail of breadcrumbs for what Clayton might be looking for in a partner.  Jesse also tells us how his career in sports broadcasting has prepared him for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. BEERS: Our Bachelor with a Bro pioneer, Zach Mastrianni, joins the show this week to have some beer.  Zach reviews RI’s own Shaidzon Brewing Company with Buffalo Czech, a Pilsner that has him reminiscing on the glory days of studying abroad in Prague. Will takes a bite of Cookie Hour, a new pour from RI favorite Long Live Beerworks.  Jake is still reviewing beers from his December trip to Florida, as he plugs Riptide Brewing Company’s take of a fruit ale called “Gango Muava.” BUSINESS: If you haven’t been up-to-date on the outburst from Vishal Garg, the CEO of Better.com, type his name into your favorite social media app and see what you find.  You pissed yet?  Well, just a few weeks after he decided to “step away for a while,” he’s back at the helm of his company. In the sports world: Josh Adams founded College Hoops Digest in 2012, and now is kicking off Season 12 with a bang. Jake informally kicks off #StoutSzn with the onset of November with Left Hand’s famous Peanut Butter Milk Stout that will leave you craving a piece of pie or your favorite dessert.

BUSINESS: Nobody likes to think about what it’ll be like when they die, but after she lost three loved ones, Emily Cisek knew the process had to change. So after a solid career in public relations and marketing, Emily founded The Postage Inc., a full-service platform to digitize legacy planning. BEERS: The guys are back on the road!  We make the short trip to one of Providence’s newest breweries, Moniker, to interview the masterminds behind it all: Jeff Goodno and Bryan Benedict.  In this on-site interview, Jeff and Bryan discuss their past experiences on both the brewing and branding/sales side of the brewery process, and what ultimately led them to create a new venture together. We discuss the start-up of Moniker, why they chose a former auto body shop as their destination, and what they looked for in hiring their head brewer. We also discuss their partnership with Southern-style comfort-food joint Bucktown, their close proximity to a fellow brewery (and recent podcast guest) Beer on Earth, and what’s next for Moniker.

BUSINESS: Bitcoin is rallying back! After being clamped by China a few weeks back, $BTC is showing resilience in the face of adversity. Some believe this is due to the SEC approving a Bitcoin-related ETF (ProShares Bitcoin Strategy ETF) which starts trading Tuesday. Could this be a wise investment?  In the world of sports betting, the state of New Jersey has eclipsed $1.01 billion in wagers in a single month, shattering the previous record of $966m. Episode 64 (October 5, 2021): Nick Costanzo "Stanzo", Contributor for Bronx Pinstripes | Yankees vs. Red Sox Wild Card Preview

BEERS: Jake goes first in a stunning twist: he’s back at Bad Sons Brewery in Derby, Connecticut. Although most of the time, Bad Sons has failed to deliver on good beer, its new fruited sour Golden Ticket is righting the course. Fresh-off a trip to Nikki’s Liquors, Will tries Synder Bier Pretzel Marzen, a new collaboration between Snyder and popular Northeast beer brand Captain Lawrence.

BUSINESS: Just about everyone on the planet was impacted by Monday’s business storyline. Facebook and Instagram both went down due to an outage on Facebook’s servers. This comes with suspicious timing, as director of security Antigone Davis went on CNBC only a few hours earlier to defend an accusation that Facebook prioritizes “profit over safety.” It was the worst outage in over two years for a social media group. We discuss exactly what went down on Monday and give a stab at what could’ve been the culprit.

BALLS: If you’re a fellow member of Yankees Twitter, you are definitely a loyal follower of Nick Costanzo, popularly known as Stanzo among the Twitter community. We invite Stanzo to discuss Tuesday’s big Wild Card game between the Yankees and Red Sox at Fenway Park. It’s been a wild season, and somehow it produced the same results...both teams finishing with 92 wins and 70 losses. Now, it comes down to one game - one team will move onto the ALDS against the Rays, and the other is heading home. What do the Yankees have to do in order to survive and advance at Fenway Park tonight? We also discuss Tom Brady’s return to Gillette Stadium and review our “locks” of last week.

EPISODE 63
BEERS: You already know what time it is...fall beer season. Will takes it to Newport Craft to try Ungourdly Hour. You’d think this sounds like a lighter pumpkin beer, but this Strong Ale is certainly off the beaten path for fall beverages. Spicy and strong, this 9.5% beer is an interesting choice as we head into the fall months. More traditional pumpkin beer lovers might identify more with Jake’s review, as he breaks down Shipyard’s “Smashed Pumpkin” in the Pugsley Signature Series. Still standing strong at 9%, Jake takes a stab at the perfect formula for a pumpkin beer.
BUSINESS: Everyone knows the name Marvel. Whether it was the movies, the comics, or the action figures, Marvel was more than likely in your life as a child. Now, Marvel is taking the motion picture scene by storm; Shang-Chi is now the top-grossing movie in North America ($187m), just ahead of Black Widow, which dominated the box office for a good chunk of the year. Is Marvel the best motion picture company ever? How much will movies rally this year? Will this raise Disney stock ($DIS) even further? We discuss the impact Marvel has had on the movie scene and beyond.
BALLS: (20:11) Two-time Super Bowl champion Dan Koppen and former MLB draft selection Tip Fairchild join the show. The two former pros join the show to discuss their new venture, the “Past Our Prime” podcast, presented by Squadlocker. We talk baseball shop with Tip, including his professional experience playing for Sparky Lyle, alongside Roger Clemens, and his favorite moments of his career.

Episode 62 (September 21, 2021): Sarah Griffin and Kendra Middleton, Hosts of "Saturdays n Seltzers" Podcast

BEERS: This weekend, we both went south to the Mid-Atlantic region, and you know what that means: great beer. Will starts with a selection from Collusion Tap Works in York, Pennsylvania that has far reach into the beer scene. Despite being just a small brew pub in the middle of nowhere, Collusion boasts some of Pennsylvania's best beer.  Will has great things to say about Xerion Matrix, a New England style IPA for which he gives a high rating. Jake takes us to Star Hill Brewery, who just released its new beer garden in McLean, Virginia; it's a must-visit.

BUSINESS: The gambling show!! With Michael Jordan declaring that he’ll be investing in sports gambling data company SportRadar, we discuss if we’re about to see major sports stars venture into the betting world. Between ESPN’s $3 billion funding call on their sportsbook rights & licensing, to more sportsbooks popping up in venues across the nation, it’s a no-brainer.

BALLS: The Saturday’s & Seltzers podcast joins the show! (18:30) We have Kendra Middleton and Sarah Griffin on the show to discuss the brand they’ve built in just a few months.  Both self-proclaimed PLL experts, we discuss this past weekend’s Chaos-Whipsnakes Championship game - full disclosure, we recorded before the game, so you are definitely allowed to @OldTakesExposed us.  We break down what’s next for the game of lacrosse, content creation, and even some baseball.

Episode 61 (September 14, 2021): The Writers Room - NFL Week 1; feat. House Enterprise Football Bloggers

BEERS: Will tries a very unique beer...so unique, it’s been named “America’s Best Light Lager” at this year’s World Beer Awards. Chair 2 is a Sons of Liberty creation, established in South Kingstown, but distributed nationally under its own brand...very similar to what SOL has done with Loyal Lemonade (which is DELICIOUS). Will has high praises for this new beer.  Jake reviews a North Shore selection from “Lynn, Lynn, the city of sin...you don’t come out the way you came in.”  Bent Water Brewing Company, a hidden gem in a warehouse right off the Lynnway, hits a home run with Sluice Juice, a New England IPA that has more hops than you knew existed.

BUSINESS: The iPhone 13 is coming!! Along with new Apple Watches and AirPods, Apple will release products at its world release events this week. When does phone technology hit its limit? Are we ever going to get the hologram keyboard that was promised to us like 10 years ago?!  How will the releases affect Apple stock; is now a good time to buy, or should you wait until after the event? Also, COVID tests are coming to brick and mortar stores; they’ll be in stores at around a 35% discount off what you can normally buy them for.  We debate; would you buy a covid test in a store if you were in a pinch?

BALLS: A long overdue show, but our “Writers’ Room” makes its debut!  We have our in-house writers James Mas, Sam Basel, Jordan Laube, and Eddy Szalan on the show to discuss their NFL teams’ performance in Week 1.  We break down the Eagles & Cardinals wins over the Falcons and Titans, and then discuss the losses...there was much sadness to go around between the Giants, Pats, and Jets.  We recap Sam Darnold’s revenge game with the Panthers, Corey Davis’ new addition to the Jets receiving core, and predictions for Mac Jones’s second game. We finish with giving our locks of the week, and the top fantasy performer for next week.

Who doesn’t love The Wonton Don?! Our Episode 60 guest is the one and only Donnie Does, who made his name on traveling the world and discovering new cultures. You’ll recall that just a few months ago, Donnie put out a plea for someone to make him a “breakfast beer,” and this summer, we delivered plenty of fresh “Don’s Early Light” to the Barstool Sports HQ2. Donnie joins us for a quality hour of beer reviews, perspectives from his life as a content creator, and his upcoming trip to the Balkans. We also talk about his recent trip to Woonsocket, Rhode Island and all its “hidden gems.” We discuss how content creation has changed over the years, and what’s next for Donnie & the rest of the Barstool Sports crew.

We finish our show after Donnie’s interview with some rapid fire news. El Salvador is adopting Bitcoin as an official currency; is this brilliant or dumb? College football is back, and the NFL’s return is on the horizon; we make some moneyball picks for Week 1.

Episode 59 (August 30, 2021): Adam Henderson, Founder of Beer On Earth

BEERS: What if we told you there were two successful breweries across the street from each other?  We travel to Beer on Earth for this live segment with founder Adam Henderson.  Beer on Earth isn’t the biggest brewery space in Rhode Island, but Adam shares his story of turning his passion into his career...much like our friends at Side Hustle in Episode 57.  As an award-winning homebrewer, Adam initially planned to start a brewery in Texas, but eventually Beer on Earth came to life in the Creative Capital. We discuss Beer on Earth going to market, where consumers can find their beer, and the competition landscape growing in Rhode Island & beyond.

BUSINESS: Chicago is putting Grubhub & DoorDash on blast. City officials are accusing DoorDash and Grubhub of harming the city’s restaurants with high fees and other deceptive practices. Can this hold up in court, and how will it affect the delivery business?  We discuss the reality that Uber and Lyft might be using our battery information to hike rates on us, and Apple CEO Tim Cook’s massive 10-year-anniversary payout.

BALLS: Rapid fire is back! Our Yankees go on a thirteen game win streak & are back in the playoff race, can they sustain it?  Michigan wins the Little League World Series, but is the bigger story the elite pitching rotation of South Dakota not making it to the finals? Former NFL defensive back Pacman Jones loses a fight to Bobby “Lights Out” Lang, and “Patty Ice” Cantlay beats Bryson Dechambeau in a 6-hole playoff after Bryson tells him to “please stop walking…”

Episode 58 (August 23, 2021): Recurring Guest - Jessica Kleinschmidt of NBC Sports

BEERS: Will reviews a visit to a pop-up of a solid New England player in Widowmaker Brewing Company.  Their IPA’s can be found on the taps of most Boston-area beer bars and in the cans at most local liquor stores, so Will breaks down his experience getting Widowmaker’s flagship Blue Comet straight from the source.  Jake’s trip to Texas a few weeks back meant loads of craft beer, and “The Temptress” by Lakewood Brewing Company lived up to expectations. Although a 9.1% milk stout doesn’t sound ideal in the Texas heat, Temptress poured smooth and refreshing, and even sat well before a night out on the town.
