The DropMay 29, 2023

159 | Ben Johnson, 4 Marathons in 4 Weeks
This spring, Ben Johnson (aka @benjohnson763) ran four marathons in four weeks: Boston, London, Eugene, and Wobegon, averaging a 2:49 pace. He only started running 5 years ago and has since lost a ton of weight and paced Meaghan to some of her personal bests along the way. He's also the true embodiment of Midwest nice and we're lucky to call him a friend. Hear about where he's at with his running, what it was like to run all those races, and what his goals are for 2023 and beyond.

157 | David Kilgore, On & Red Bull Athlete

And he's a professional trail runner who lives in New York City, which totally makes sense. All that to say– we had a great time talking to this amazing athlete about all his wild adventures.

From Jesus lizards to birthday presents to announcing summer GRIT, we recap the past week of running and not running and everything in between. We also have a legend checking in this go around, so don't miss that. We also figure out if the Nobull Runner+ is a real running shoe (it is, mostly).

155 | Ali Feller, Podcast Host (Ali on the Run) and Race Announcer
Thomas and Meg sit down and chat with Ali Feller, host of the number one running podcast in America (every once in awhile we get there too) and probably also the nicest person in America. She's also a race announcer, recently handling finish line duties at the Boston Marathon. She's also a marathoner. And a mom. And a wife. She's pretty much a transformer but not in disguise. And she just ran a 3:41 marathon PR in Eugene! Hope you enjoy this talk as much as we did.

154 | Asics Magic Speed 3, Coke & Pop, Meg's Kentucky Derby Prowess, Formula None, & Special Guest Check-Ins!
Things get regional on this episode of the drop as we discuss coke and pop, tennis shoes and sneakers, and also try to figure out Formula One. We also talk about our experience with Gnarly Hydrate margaritas and how Meg may have a new career in betting since her family won't support her. Drop your FanDuel referral link in the comments. Oh, we also talk about the Asics Magic Speed 3, a tempo trainer that seems like a sizable improvement over last year.

153 | Jess Movold, Strength & Running Coach
Logging thousands of miles a year means we could always use strength and conditioning advice. Applying it is a whole different thing, but at least we'll have the knowledge. To get that knowledge, we talked to Jess Movold, a licensed strength and running coach for Runner’s World+ members. Just ran a lifetime PR in Boston, 3:12, and her first postpartum marathon. She currently lives in Austin, TX with her husband and son Battle, which is probably the coolest name a human could ask for. She’s also a new member of the Train to NYC!

152 | New Balance More Trail v3, Monster Truck Recap, AI There Delilah
Well, the whole gang hit the trails last week and it was part awesome, part humbling. Thomas and Jarrett went on a bro-date to the monster truck rally and came away with some revelations. Robbe navigates his running or lack thereof, as well as human waste issues that aren't his. Meg reports back on her first week of being coached by Andrew Kastor. And we also talk about the New Balance More Trail v3.
Be sure to check out Saysky running apparel, because summer is coming and you need to look hot but feel cool. Save 15% off your order by using code DROP15: https://saysky.us/

151 | Charlie Watson, Runnerbeans
We talked about her entry into running (her first marathon was London in 2012, where she ran for MIND in memory of her university housemate, Vic, who sadly took his own life after battling depression). Thoughts on being considered an influencer. How she’s a Six Star finisher. Her fertility journey -- she just had a child via surrogacy. And her next goal of hitting a BQ at the Valencia Marathon.

150 | Li-Ning, Martinis on Days That End in 'Y', Venus Fly Traps, Lot Lizards & More
Our break from Boston has gone a bit sideways and we're okay with it. Thomas and Meaghan go full James Bond in their drinking, Robbe buys his family's first pet, and our running is full of injuries as usual (we'll be okay). We also talk about the Li-Ning Feidian 3 Ultra, a performance shoe that may or may not cost $500.
Be sure to check out Saysky running apparel, because summer is coming and you better look good while feeling gooder. Use code DROP15 to save 15% off your order: https://saysky.us/

149 | Ben Morrow, Miler Running
What's it take to start your own made-in-NYC, boutique running brand in the very beginning of a pandemic? Ask Ben Morrow, founder of Miler Running. We get the inside scoop of how he started the brand, what he looks for in apparel, and his vision for running. This is a great one for all you business-minded folks out there, or anyone looking to get into the design and apparel game.

148 | Boston Marathon Recap
Do we really need a description for this one? I guess so, since it's sponsored by Saysky. This is our Boston Marathon recap, where we rundown the entire Boston Marathon weekend, from meet-ups to shakeout runs race day itself. It was nothing short of amazing, as you probably know if you were there. It also produced way more bathroom stories than we could ever imagine possible, much to Meg's chagrin.
Be sure to check out Saysky running apparel, because you know you need some new spring gear. Save 15% with code DROP15: https://saysky.us/

147 | Kara Goucher, Olympian and Author
No introduction needed: this week's guest is the legendary Kara Goucher– Olympian, Nike whistleblower, and author of "The Longest Race: Inside the Secret World of Abuse, Doping, and Deception on Nike's Elite Running Team." 146 | Asics Gel-Cumulus 25, Ziplining, Spirited Away, Sweat Hydration
Thomas and Meaghan take on quite the adventure the week before the Boston Marathon. Robbe finishes watching Spirited Away and learns that you can't drink a shirt. Thomas encounters a rabid dog in his own house. We cover the Asics Gel-Cumulus 25 and wonder where it fits in at this point. This episode is sponsored by Lagoon pillows, we've been using them for a year and they're amazing. Save 15% on your order with code BELIEVE: https://lagoonsleep.com/pages/lagoon-believe-in-the-run Be sure to check out Saysky running apparel, we're huge fans of the Pace Shorts and Combat Singlet: https://saysky.us/

145 | Casey Comber, Under Armour Pro Athlete
His name would have you think he bats cleanup for the 1927 Yankees, but Casey Comber is actually an Under Armour athlete with the UA Mission Run team right here in Baltimore. (Update: the man just finished in second-place at the iconic B.A.A. Mile over Boston Marathon weekend, less than a half-second behind winner Hobbs Kessler.) We got him into the studio to talk shoes, life as a professional athlete, and what it's like to sleep in an altitude tent all the time.

144 | Puma Foreverrun Nitro, Cherry Blossom Recap, Tetris Blox, & the Great Cornholio
We went down to D.C. and did our cherry blossom thing as we led a run through the pouring rain on Saturday and raced a windy route on Sunday. We recap that whole thing, we talk about Tetris, we check in on our own running, and we tell you how to hang with us in Boston. Thanks for everyone who showed up this past weekend, can't wait to see a bunch of y'all in less than two weeks. Check out and RSVP for our Boston meet-ups: https://believeintherun.com/events/boston-marathon-weekend/ This episode is sponsored by Lagoon pillows, we've been using them for a year and they're amazing. 143 | Theresa Hailey, Engineer & 2:36 Marathoner
Always cool when you're qualify for the Olympic Trials once. But how about doing it twice, while working at your day job as a Boeing engineer? That's exactly what Theresa Hailey has done, lowering her marathon time to 2:36 in the process with a top-25 finish at the Chicago Marathon in 2022. We talk about how she got into running, balancing her running with a full-time job, and holding down pacing duties at the 2022 California International Marathon (CIM).

142 | Nike Vaporfly Next% 3, Rainy Spring Running, Electric Fence Fun & More
It's raining in Baltimore, and we're running in it. In the Nike Vaporfly Next%3, specifically. This episode is sponsored by Lagoon pillows, we've been using them for a year and they're amazing. Save 15% on your order with code BELIEVE: https://lagoonsleep.com/

138 | Nike Pegasus 40, Barkley Marathons, Best Ice Cream Cones, Soulmates Aren't Real
We eventually get to talking about the Nike Pegasus 40 (around the one-hour mark), but first we made a detour into our Tokyo Marathon hangover, childhood trauma, whether or not soulmates are a real thing, what we're watching on Netflix, and more.
If you're in New York City, come join us for the On Cloudsurfer release and shakeout run on Thursday, March 23: https://www.strava.com/clubs/490966/group_events/1343920

137 | Eoin Everard, Physiotherapist
Injuries are a common refrain as runners, and often times, we try our worst to limit them. So what's why we wanted to talk to Dr. Eoin Everard, a chartered physiotherapist with a PhD in Biomechanics. Professionally he has lectured in Ireland for over 10 years on Sports Medicine and Biomechanics publishing several peer reviewed studies.
On this episode, we talk about everything from stretching to warn-ups to the secrets to a healthy spine. From travel to food to weird stories and race successes and failures, it's all here. Jereny started running in 2015 and ran her first marathon in 5 hours and 25 minutes. Since then, she's lost over 50 lbs and knocked 2.5+ hours off her time. Just last month she ran a 2:47 in Houston and is looking to hit the OTQ time this year. She's also a run streaker, cause of course she is.

067 | Annie Frisbie, Minnesota Distance Elite
Annie Frisbie is a Minnesota Distance Elite athlete who just took 7th place in the New York City Marathon, and she dropped two half-marathon PRs in that race. All of this has us begging the question: how is she not sponsored? What she IS, though, is down-to-earth and a cool hang. We talk with Annie about her big day in NYC, the strategy of marathon courses, training with MDE, high school cross country in Wisconsin, being a graphic designer, and much more (44:30). The gang also recaps their trip to Austin for The Running Event and previews a few shoes that have them excited for 2022.

Everyone loves a good puke story, and we got one here in this episode. Our guest Laura Thweatt (@lthweat) is a Saucony elite marathoner who finished 8th in the New York City Marathon last month. All that and more with Craig, plus the BITR gang recaps Meg's secret marathon mission in Indianapolis.

062 | Melissa Hardesty, Wineglass Marathon Winner
We were at the Wineglass Marathon a few weeks ago, so it's only right that we brought the winner onto the pod to talk shop.
