Are Etiquette and Thank You Notes Still Even a Thing and Why It Matters? NPR/KUT Radio.

Summer is a busy time for weddings, especially in June. And especially the Austin, Texas area – even in this heat! Weddings have a lot of customs and behavioral expectations attached to them – etiquette if you will. And that got Central Texas Neuropsychotherapist, LPC, Bella J. Rockman thinking about good manners and behavior – in a time when it can seem in short supply. KUT’s Jennifer Stayton chatted with her recently over Zoom about what etiquette even means these days.

The Goal Is Connection: Therapist on Systemic Approach to Dismantling Racism, Trauma

Our Bodies Keep the Score

Our Bodies Keep the Score

Did you know that stress, tension and even trauma can become trapped in your body, in the central nervous system and at a cellular level? Even for experiences and stressors that you don't have words for, THE BODY KEEPS THE SCORE, as author @thebodykeepsthescore Bessel Vanderkolk writes about. In fact, OUR BODIES CAN EVEN TAKE ON THE SHAPE OF OUR BELIEFS as @geneenroth says. Create a peaceful and productive day today. 💛 Best, JRock

Grounding Exercise: Vagal Breathing

Grounding Exercise: Vagal Breathing

Deep breathing immediately relaxes the body because it stimulates the vagus nerve, which runs from the neck to the abdomen and turns off the ‘fight or flight’ reflex.  Also, stimulating the vagus nerve activates your relaxation response, reducing your heart rate and blood pressure. Deep breathing activates the vagus nerve enough that it acts as a "brake" on the stress response.  Take a moment, breath with me. This is something you can use throughout the day or at the end of your day to clear debris or stress that has  accumulated.

Self-Compassion In An Age of Criticism & Contention

Self-Compassion In An Age of Criticism & Contention

Can you take 1 day to release the need to judge anyone or anything around you... including yourself???

We live in a world that is filled with criticism, condemnation, and judgment. From politics, to religion and social ideals we seem to be living in a “war of the words”.

If we get triggered, defensive and angry at people for not living the way that we want them to (or if we lash out at people for judging us) are we not becoming just like them? Brene Brown has often said that empathy is the cure for shame. I truly believe what the world needs now more than ever is compassion, self-compassion and empathy.   Listen & SUBSCRIBE to @jrocktherapy on anchor.fm & YouTube 🎧 ❤️❤️
