Sports Legends with Bevo - Ep #16 - Peter Dickson
I recently had a terrific chat with award winning filmmaker and author Peter Dickson on Sports Legends with Bevo.
We discussed what life was like growing up in a family of six and the sporting battles they all had.
We also spoke about the close bond that Peter had with his late brother Rob and how he influenced Peter to become a documentary maker.
Peter has recently written a book called ‘He Was My Brother’ which is about Rob and the incredible life that he lived and how his brother’s shock death in 2009 hit Peter and the family so hard.
Earlier this year, Peter produced a powerful documentary called ‘Dare to Hope’ which he said was one of his toughest yet as it was about the late Hawks premiership player Paul Dear who Peter knew well.

Mark has called America home for several years now and so it was interesting hearing about what made him decide to make the move over and how he's still involved in the great game of tennis these days.
It was also great hearing the stories about meeting another tennis legend, John McEnroe and Mark's awkward encounter with Johnny Mac and the unusual way they ended up winning a grand slam together in doubles.
Speaking of doubles, Mark also talked about how he got to partner with the great Martina Navratilova and last but not least his extremely successful partnership with fellow Aussie great, Todd Woodbridge plus much more.

An inductee into the AFL Hall of Fame in 2014, Kouta played 278 games at his beloved Carlton blues represented Victoria in state footy and was a premiership player in 1995 with Carlton.

It was a great pleasure to chat to a terrific and inspiring young lad, Patrick Bines on Sports Legends with Bevo recently.
Patrick was a promising young basketballer and represented Australia at junior level, played for the Melbourne Tigers Basketball in the SEABL then made the transition to AFL where he was picked up by West Coast Eagles as a rookie in 2018.
Whilst playing in the WAFL he sustained a horrific head injury which ended his footy career.
We spoke about how Patrick turned things around after going through some tough times as a result of the injuries he sustained and where to now for his career going forward.

Sports Legends with Bevo – Ep #6 – Josh Carmichael.
In a very special Sports Legends with Bevo and on one of the biggest days of his life I had the incredible pleasure of chatting to West Adelaide Football Club young gun and all-round nice guy Josh Carmichael who is a red hot chance of getting picked up in tonight’s AFL mid-season draft.
Josh has been tearing it up this year at the Bloods in the SANFL competition averaging 24 possessions a game, 5 clearances and has kicked 9 goals in his eight games which resulted in him representing SA against WA recently in SA’s thrilling win at Optus Stadium.
We spoke about how Josh ended up at the Bloods, what it would mean to him to be picked up in the mid-season draft, his thoughts on the SANFL competition, influences on his footy career and life growing up at Merbein in country Victoria.
We also had a bit of fun where I got Josh to dish the dirt on some of his team mates at the club.

It was a pleasure to interview a mentor of mine and one of SA's biggest media personalities Mark Aiston on Sports Legends with Bevo.
We spoke about how Mark first got into the media, overcoming his mental health battles, how the great Bruce McAvaney has been a big influence on his career and we reminisced over the famous incident in 2011 with newsreader Belinda Heggen when Mark was reading the sport for Channel Ten Adelaide that went viral.

Biddy is the daughter of another comedy legend Fiona O’Loughlin and we spoke about the buzz of performing together earlier this year.

I was very lucky to interview the Hartlett brothers Adam and Hamish just before this year's SANFL season kicked off, we had some technical issues which delayed posting up the video but thankfully we got it sorted in the end.
We also had a bit of banter between the brothers, discussed Adam's footy career as well and found out some of the funny team mates that the boys have played with throughout their footy careers.

I really enjoyed chatting with one of the tough men of football, 1987 Carlton Blues premiership player David Rhys-Jones on Sports Legends with Bevo.
We spoke about why it was so tough playing in the brutal 80's, some of his funny team mates and the famous Battle of Britain exhibition match with North Melbourne that quickly became somewhat of a bloodbath.
His son Cooper has a rare condition called Prader-Willi Syndrome and Rhys has organised a 15 for 15 challenge to raise money for this very important charity.

It was a huge buzz to chat with two mates of mine and former team mates from the Para Hills Football Club, Scott “Charlts” Charlton and Ryan "Rebbs" Rebbeck on Legends with Bevo.
Both lads are doing unbelievable things with raising money and building awareness for mental health with Breakthrough Mental Health Research.
We spoke about the incredible experience that the boys had when they trekked the Larapinta Trail earlier this year, the amazing work they are doing at the footy club, importance of being their for your mates and the challenges they've overcome.

It was great fun recently to chat with one of Australia's great comedians and all round good blokes Dave O'Neil (pictured here with Eric Bana) on Legends with Bevo.

Ep #153 - Kevin Sheedy - Coaching tips from the messiah!
What a buzz it was to speak to, Kevin Sheedy, a man who's done more in football than I've had hot dinners.
An VFL/AFL record of 929 games as a player and coach with Essendon Football Club and Richmond Football Club, seven premierships, AFL Hall of Fame inductee in 2008 and AFL legend status in 2018 and that's only some of it.
Sheeds discussed some of his coaching methods that he used throughout his illustrious coaching career, the challenges of coaching the GWS Giants in the first three seasons, which famous celebrities left him 'starstruck' plus much more.
He has a new book out called 'Icons of Sport', you can buy the book at all your local book stores and online.

It was a great pleasure to recently chat with Jett, the son of Lisa Curry and Grant Kenny.

Jett also opened about the tragic loss of his sister Jaimi in late 2020 and how this tragedy had made the family closer.

Ep #150 - Terry McAuliffe - The race that stops the nation!
With the 'race that stops the nation' tomorrow, it was a huge honor to chat with racing expert, Terry McAuliffe, on Legends with Bevo recently.
Terry is a presenter on Racing.com and has called the Bay Sheffield in Adelaide, Athletics and horse racing for over 30 years.
We discussed the horses to watch in tomorrow's Melbourne Cup, where Terry discovered the passion for race calling, his big name media personalities who have been mentors and his most memorable moments whilst calling.
We also chatted about his thoughts on jumps racing being cancelled at Oakbank, what he has enjoyed most about being a caller for so long and how he had to fill-in as a race caller for the last four races at Naracoorte earlier this year.
Terry has also done a beautiful video in tribute to his friend Belinda Price who is battling pancreatic cancer, our thoughts go out to Belinda and her family and we wish her well in her recovery.

It was a great pleasure to recently interview two-time Olympian, Hockeyroos goalkeeper and R U OK Day ambassador Rachael Lynch.
We spoke about some incredibly difficult challenges that Rach has had to overcome to not only make it to Tokyo 2020 but also just to earn a dollar and she’s definitely one of the more resilient guests I have had on the show.
We discussed how Rach has balanced working as a registered nurse for the past ten years with being a professional hockey player, what it was like inside the Olympic Village at Rio and Tokyo and in one of my favourite parts of the show, we found out the most famous person she has met.

Phil has been recognised for his incredible work with Living Without Limits Foundation, the charity he founded and Standing WITH Sophie another charity close to his heart, which has resulted in some of the biggest celebrities in the world getting behind including: Dwayne The Rock Johnson, Priscilla Presley and Guy Sebastian plus many more.
Boof is the ambassador of Living Without Limits and after a heart scare a couple of years back has become involved in building awareness around heart health with his charity My Marathon.

Ep #146 - Jordan McMahon - Living his AFL Dream.
It was great fun recently to chat with Jordan McMahon on Legends with Bevo.
Jordan began his career with the Glenelg Football Club (SANFL) before getting picked up at number 10 in the 2000 national draft by the Western Bulldogs where he played 114 games and then 34 games at the Richmond FC.
We reminisced on Jordan's footy career and some of the superstars that he played with throughout his career, the feeling of his name being called out at the 2000 draft by the Western Bulldogs and some of his funniest team mates, tough opponents and pranksters.
Jordan and I also previewed the AFL Grand Final, spoke about Glenelg's amazing season so far in 2021 and how the Dogs surprised the Power in the Preliminary Final.
