Splice Machine: The Operational Data Platform

Splice Machine: The Operational Data Platform

Splice Machine announced the company’s new data science workbench, ML Manager, at the Spark + AI Summit 2019 (https://databricks.com/sparkaisummit/north-america) being held April 23-25, in San Francisco, CA. Cory caught up with Splice Machine's founder and CEO, Monte Zweben, about how Splice Machine bridges the gap between operational databases and the tools used by data scientists to power modern AI. Splice Machine’s new Data Science Workbench, called ML Manager, empowers data science teams to maximize the performance of their machine learning models by removing the latency associated with building complex data pipelines, performing cumbersome transformations and training models on updated data.
At the Spark+AI Summit, Monte presented, “Without Operational AI, Your ML Model is Stale (https://databricks.com/sparkaisummit/north-america/sessions-single-2019?id=199)” which will discussed how companies can integrate OLTP, OLAP and ML capabilities in a unified platform to make intelligent decisions in real time using data at scale. The resulting SQL platform reduces data movement and therefore enables training on real-time data and testing on real-time data leading to better decision-making.

Technology and Security with CISO, Mike Watson

Thomas Henson (https://twitter.com/henson_tm ) and Erin K. Banks (https://twitter.com/banksek ) spoke with Mike Watson (https://twitter.com/wiken), the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) for the Commonwealth of Virginia. His agency ( Virginia Information Technology Agency ) has a two fold mission in Virginia, they do centralized technology providing infrastructure services for 67 lines of businesses including hospitals, museums, businesses, and public safety. They are also responsible for setting governance rules for how the Commonwealth is supposed to operate in a secure fashion. They also have a data centric approach. They look to create controls and monitor all transactions around the data that the agencies are using and sending place to place.
His job is to care mostly about the data. Computers are not worth anything, if they don’t have good data on them. They pay very close attention to the data that is out there and how to secure it. This is important because the Commonwealth is looking share information between agencies, while protecting the privacy of their citizens. They hired a Chief Data Officer to help with this and we talk about the projects that they are working on.
