8:36 - PRAYER FOR SALVATION. Go back through the points of the gospel you shared. They can pray and repeat after you:  "Dear God, I confess I am a sinner. Thank you that Jesus died on the cross to forgive my sin and rose again. I want to trust and follow Jesus as my Savior. Thank you that if I trust in Jesus alone, you give me the gift of a right relationship with you forever.  Amen.” You can remind them that salvation is theirs (Romans 10:9)! Help them take their first steps in their new Christian faith.

Can see a theme or topic through multiple books of the Bible. Helpful on special occasions (Mother’s Day) or to address needed issues

Could be biblically shallow. Pastor could select only Bible verses that support the theme but miss others

All 3 types of sermons are beneficial. Expositional & Textual sermons are great for studying the Bible verse-by-verse. Topical sermons can be excellent sources of learning about one topic and getting a wide view

Anger is God-given energy that can help us solve problems and show compassion. Believers are to be angry when God is dishonored or we witness injustice and wicked acts.

The inspiration of the Bible is the last topic of our eight-part series entitled “Putting the Fun in…”. We have put fun into the fundamentals or essential doctrines of Christianity. “Inspiration” refers to the Holy Spirit carrying along the authors to write the very words of God.

4:15 - The Old Testament is inspired according to the authors.

4:50 - Jesus also confirmed the Old Testament inspiration when he said, “It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.” (Matt. 4:4).

Jesus’s Second Coming is the seventh topic in our eight-part series on “Putting the Fun In…” the fundamentals or essential doctrines of Christianity.

At some unknown time in the future, Jesus will return to earth. His Second Coming will be a lightning-like descent in the clouds with his angels and glorified saints for all to see. The Second Coming initiates Christ’s judgment of everyone. It also ushers in the new heavens and new earth. The Second Coming reminds us the end could be at any time and for Christians to pursue God-honoring lives.

2:00 - The Second Coming refers to Christ’s return to earth. Several parties promised Jesus’s Second Coming:

1. Jesus said,  “[Y]ou will see the Son of Man … coming with the clouds of heaven” (Mark 14:62)

2. Two angels at Christ’s ascension said, “Jesus … will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.” (Acts 1:11)

3. Several New Testament authors.

3:30 - What’s the big deal about the Second Coming? The Second Coming’s date is unknown, but it will be physical, personal, and sudden.

4:45 - 2 Purposes for Second Coming:

1. To resurrect and transform everyone for judgment. Jesus will judge and reward each Christian based on how we have lived our Christian lives. The unsaved will be cast into hell.

2. Jesus will also restore new heavens and new earth (Rev 21:4).

6:50 - So what? How should we respond when no one knows when Christ will return (Matt. 24:36).

7:08 - Non-Christians should consider God’s offer of eternal life through Jesus Christ. Embrace the Judge as your Savior.

8:39 - Christ’s judgment of believers should motivate us to Godly lives. Christ rewards us based on what we have done with the gifts and opportunities he has given us. Am I suffering for Jesus?

Christ’s ascension is the sixth topic in our eight-part series, “Putting the Fun in…” the fundamentals (or essential doctrines) of Christianity. After his resurrection, Jesus appeared at least eleven times over forty days to more than 500 witnesses, and then he ascended to heaven (Acts 1:9) in the disciples’ presence (Acts 1:10-11). The ascension marked the end of his ministry on earth. But he has several heavenly roles while we await his second coming.

Jesus’s resurrection is the fifth episode in an eight-part series entitled “Putting the Fun in…” the fundamentals (or essential doctrines) of Christianity. Four indisputable facts prove the resurrection without any valid arguments against it.

1:23 - Resurrection: Jesus came back to life in a glorified physical body, never to die again (1 Cor. 15:1-4).

2:59 - Why is the resurrection important?

3:10 - 1. Proves Jesus is God.

3:28 - 2. God accepted Christ’s death as a sin offering.

3:38 - 3. It promises future resurrections for all Christians (Rom. 6:4–5)

4:20 - Historical evidence: Four indisputable facts prove the resurrection.

8:56 - 1. First, the disciples did not go to the wrong tomb. Opponents could go to the right tomb and produce Jesus’s dead body.

9:21 - 2. Second, the disciples did not steal Christ’s body (Matt. 28:13) and then die for what they knew was a lie.

10:45 - 3. Third, Jesus did not pass out! This idea is inconsistent with Roman flogging, crucifixion, and spear wound into his side (John 19:32–34).

11:31 - 4. Fourth, mass hallucinations are impossible. Jesus appeared to more than 500 witnesses at one time (1 Cor. 15:6)

12:16 - 5. Fifth, the resurrection cannot be a myth. Myths take more than two generations and geographical isolation. Neither is applicable here.

14:07 - So what? The resurrection is worth praising God for (1 Pet. 1:3-4)!

Substitutionary atonement is the fourth in our eight-part series, “Putting The Fun In...” where we are discussing Christianity’s “fundamentals” (or essentials). Substitutionary atonement is what happened when Jesus died on the cross. He was our substitute, enduring God the Father’s hatred of sin and taking our punishment for our sins. Christ substituted himself for us. And his death atoned or covered our sins. Our accepting him as our Lord leads to salvation.

2:50 - “Substitutionary” means taking the place of someone else. “Atonement” is the idea of covering—specifically the covering of sin.

4:10 - Atonement involves an innocent party taking on the punishment that was due to a guilty party.

4:25 - Jesus’ death on the cross accomplished three things: Sacrifice, Substitution, and Atonement.

1. Sacrifice: Jesus chose to die to take the sins of humankind

• “For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many” (Mark 10:45).
  
• As a shepherd, Jesus sacrifices his life for his sheep (John 10:11) to pay for our sins.
  

6:14 - 2. Substitution: Christ died as our substitute.

• In the “Great Exchange,” he took our sins, and we received his righteousness.
  
• “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” (John 1:29)
  

9:35 - 3. Atonement: Jesus blood covers us. Now when God looks at Christians, instead of seeing enemies, he only sees the righteousness of Jesus (2 Cor. 5:21).

10:40 - So What?

• The substitutionary atonement makes me sick of my sin. God hates sin but also loves humans. When I look at the cross, I see my sins causing Christ’s suffering.
  
• I never have to second-guess God’s love again.
