In episode three of our podcast, we will be spending time with resident Susan Sanders an art history major who moved to Charleston in the early 70’s. She went on to work at the College of Charleston to help with their special events and later became the Director of College Relations. We talk to Susan about her time working for the Spoleto Festival including the very first year of its existence as Charleston prepares for another year of the beautiful festival in 2021.

As a civil engineer, Paul Roberts traveled around the world and saw some amazing places. Now, as a resident at Bishop Gadsden, he has shared his worldwide experiences through his newfound passion of art. He went from never painting in his life to creating some incredible pieces of artwork. His development started after being taught by Bishop Gadsden Art Instructor Emily Tucker, a trained artist, who teaches art to several residents inside of the Miller Art Loft.

As a U.S. Army infantryman in World War II, Don Wedewer was twice  wounded in four days. On both occasions he was left for dead. Now, at  19. he was a double amputee and blind with seemingly no hope for the  future. Yet, inspired by a brief meeting with the renowned activist,  Helen Keller, and through extraordinary determination and persistence,  this highly decorated combat veteran overcame seemingly impossible odds  to become a leader in Florida and nationally in providing opportunities  for those with vision loss. Don Wedewer's accomplishment would be  recognized by Presidents Richard Nixon, Ronald Regan, George H.W. Bush  and Bill Clinton. He would also be awarded the Migel Medal -- the  highest award afforded to those in the field of vision loss.
