Ep. 30 - An Aggressive Family Christmas
Finally, the episode recorded in December 2021 is available in December 2022 (we make no promise to be timely with our jokes, references, or new stories). And it's getting Dickensian in here, as we pick tell stories inspired by Scrooge's famous ghosts: Caity takes up to the past of cannibalistic European satanists in a story she only discovered in her present, Mel tells us about present ghosts (by rehashing the past in stories we told last year), and Nick tells us of how Sharon Tate in the past saw her own future in the ghost that predicted her future. Honestly, this whole episode is chronally instable.

Clip Show: We're Not Dead Yet!
Your eyes are not deceiving you, it's a Booze + Spirits Podcast! Almost. We have not yet returned to the recording booth, but that doesn't mean the show isn't on our minds, and we're flabbergasted to see that we're still acquiring new listeners for a show that hasn't put out new content for a dragonfly's age. So, to let you know that we haven't forgotten you all, here's another clip show of bits left from the editing bay floor, and like last time, it's been punctuated with the chaotic tones of a French post-punk band; this time, Ultrademon! (We amuse ourselves.) Hang tight, and we hope to see you with new, actual real episodes sometime in the near future!

Ep. 29 - Six Gentiles Walk Into a Whale
Better late than never, said the person who sucks at online analytics...
The part-time job known as Christmas is over, and we've finally had time to edit the episodes we recorded before Christmas. First up, in our salute to Hanukah, we talk vaguely about some Jewish spirts and demons in between bursts of spouting off pointless facts like the big-headed autistic kid from Jerry Maguire. Cait has a haunted synagogue, Nick compares a historical possession tale to teachings of the Talmud, and Mel has new uses for cat afterbirth. It's an episode less offensive than you would have thought, but more offensive than you would have hoped.

Ep. 28 - Hominid Battle Royale
It's Thanksgiving here at The Booze + Spirits Podcast, and we celebrate it like most Americans--by being painfully unaware of the plight of Native Americans and having a big blow-out fight with family members. After a few tales of Native American lore, Nick goads Cait into storming out. Afterwards, Nick and Mel 'go for a walk with the cousins' and ramble on about proto-man behavior including Bigfoot, Wendigos, and Facebook. Like a Thanksgiving dinner, it goes on too long and makes you wonder what else you could be doing right now if you didn't feel so guilty obligated. Happy Turkey Day!

Ep. 27 - Dalrymple in Time
Put on your tam, grab your bagpipes, and wear your kilt commando style, because we're headed to the highlands for this episode of The Booze + Spirits Podcast! We're discussing the spirits of Scotland in this episode, 'Mel!' gives us a tour of a creepy castle and its green lady, Nick rants about government betrayal on a ghostly glen, and Cait finishes our journey by warming our tired bones with a pastoral hot toddy.

Ep. 26 - Call Her DADA
t's our one-year anniversary! One year of Booze + Spirits, and despite all that experience, Mel shows up late, Cait pulls her conversation cues from Cards Against Humanity, and Nick talked into the cold mic while the hot mic was in another part of the room again (sorry for the potato quality). For this momentous event we decided on a episode touching some of the darker, nastier denizens of the paranormal world (the ghost ones, not douchey or pretentious ghost hunters), and some ways to keep yourself from being caught in their webs. So sit in for an extra long, sub-quality version of Defense Against the Dark Arts class, and at the end Cait will send you home with a recipe for a Bloody Mary that doubles as a protection spell!

Ep. 25 - Sphincter Obsession
In a Hail Mary pass attempt at keeping our themes fresh at just-less-than-a-year into the podcast, we decided to talk about cursed films in this episode! Cait tells us about a movie that was so (rightfully) cursed that it never got finished, despite several attempts. Then Nick does it all for Damian by covering the bizarre circumstances behind-the-scenes on the set of 1976's The Omen. Finish it all off with a demonic-looking margarita, and way, WAY too much about sphincters, and you have a Booze + Spirits Podcast!

Ep. 24 - The Spirits and Booze Podcast
In this Chaotic Neutral episode, we go looking for alcohol spirits, and spend quite a bit of time in distilleries as a result. First, Nick goes on a brief tour of Scotch distilleries. Then Cait heads back stateside for a look at the ghosts haunting Buffalo Trace Distillery. Finally, "Mel!" returns to give us look at Japanese Shojo spirits without looking at them through the lens of The CW's Supernatural.

Ep. 23 - Sink or Swim Tryouts
New and improved, we've managed to squeeze 50% more hosts in this episode! Cait wanted to talk about boats this episode, so our good friend "Mel!" joins Nick to talk about haunted naval vessels, then Cait shares her much anticipated boat story (which we're pretty sure she's never heard before). Round the episode out with a sailor enticing dark rum drink, promos no one paid for, and a more than normal chunk of chicanery!

Ep. 22 - Miners Prohibited
All our episodes are rocky, but this one is on purpose! Nick and Cait have returned from their adventures in Yosemite, and while out and about they've gained a taste for the miner's life! Nick brings in tales of Native American legends dealing with cave-inhabiting stone giants, and Cait has tales of angry helldogs that protect ancient miners' claims. Then Cait introduces a dry stone-fruit cocktail to relax with after a long day in the holes.

Ep. 21 - [title not found]
It's the last gasp before Nick and Cait head out into the wilderness for vacation, so what better way to make themselves paranoid than with a collection of stories about people who mysteriously vanished in the woods? Nick and Cait give a surface look at the very deep Missing 411 phenomenon, as Cait shares the weirdest stories of missing people she can find. Then Nick applies the Missing 411 philosophy to some more recent missing cases and gives us an account of getting lost in the forest under completely non-mysterious circumstances for context. Cait finishes things off with a drink that will put the trees themselves in your mouth and in your blood.

Ep. 20 - Candle in the End
The world's worst word-association podcast is back! The theme is "pirates", so of course Nick brings in a story about a mentally ill woman and Cait shows up with a story of a bogus Turkish sultan. Vague hand-waving connections are only one of our specialties, though, so Cait creates a fig liqueur based cocktail with a Mediterranean flair!

Ep. 19 - El Paso or Fail Class
We're back with a full episode! The topic is 'haunted schools', and we ruffled something's feathers with this one. Nick tells of the many hauntings of Alabama's University of Montevallo, and Cait breaks down one of El Paso's many haunted public schools. As if that wasn't enough haunted happenings, Nick and Cait experienced a handful of ghostly activities while recording the episode itself! Take a break from all this mayhem with a cocktail suitable for any school cold lunch!

Clip Show: It Came From the Cutting Room Floor!
It's new to you! Due to some health-related difficulties, we weren't able to record an episode in time to get released on schedule, so we've done the next best thing: dug a bunch of unused clips out of the garbage and hastily glued them together. It works for the last minute Science Fair project in every sitcom ever, so it can work for us! Enjoy our favorite least-favorite moments from the early episodes of the podcast, and we'll be back with a proper episode in two weeks!

Ep. 18 - Trauma Persevering
With Independence Day around the corner, Nick & Cait decided to it was a good time to talk about ghosts of the Revolutionary War. First, Cait tells of the frozen hell the patriots stationed at Jockey Hollow had to endure (in some cases, for eternity). Then Nick shares stories of Fort Ticonderoga, its spectres, and the most unlikely partnership in the revolutionary army. Cait finishes us up with special drink, a favorite of renowned patriot Ethan Allen, The Stone Fence.

Ep. 17 - Bugle Boy Genes
Finally, our poor noise-to-signal ratio finally works in our favor! We're talking about (and making) noise, and we start with a look at a bowling ghost that was exposed by the quiet of the pandemic. Next, an Indianapolis poltergeist that disturbed the whole neighborhood, and we finish with a phantom bugle whose tone reverberates throughout history. And all this shifting of the volume has inspired a drink that keeps cranking the favor up and down on you to stay electric with every sip!

Ep. 16 - Decap Attack!
In this episode we spend a lot of time discussing hobos, ice cream, and decapitations, which is really unfortunate, because the episode's topic was supposed to be haunted roadside attractions. On a road trip absolutely plump full of detours, side-stops, and the occasional breakdown, Nick shares ghostly tales about America's first National Park, Yellowstone. Then Cait takes us on a tour of accidents, apparitions, and ashes at the happiest place on Earth, Disneyland! All this, plus a boozy frozen treat specially designed to beat the summertime heat!

Ep. 15 - Death Below the 49th Parallel
The borders may still be closed, but Nick and Cait are taking a trip to Canada anyway. Victoria, BC is one of their favorite places, and with Victoria Day is just around the corner, it only seems right to tell stories of ghosts and murder in The Garden City. First, Cait tells us about some of the many permanent residents of the Empress Hotel, then Nick tells the story of ethereal axe-murder Kanaka Pete. Then Cait ties all the pieces together with a Canadian whiskey tiki drink that celebrates Victoria's relationship with multiculturalism. How ya doin', eh?

Ep. 14 - Secret Origins
It's almost Mother's Day, so we decided to bring in the woman who made it all happen, our own mother Shanna McDonald! She helps us explore the secret origins of the McDonalds' obsession with the paranormal and help clarify some of the sketchier details. We share family paranormal encounters from three generations, including the haunted house in which Nick and Cait grew up, strange alien-like encounters in the Applegate region, and all manner of Southern Oregon weirdness! Top it off with a spicy sazerac straight from Momma's heart, and you've got an episode you won't find anywhere else!

BS presents #baddecisionsclub - The Dead Cat Situation
We've been talking for a while about pushing the idea of #baddecisionsclub as a brand or sub-brand, and a couple online conversations brought up the story of the time Nick snuck a dead cat into school. It was too long a story to tell in 280 character chunks, so now seemed like the right time to release #baddecisionsclub onto the world as a minisode. If people like this concept, we'll probably release some more minisodes about the more regrettable exploits of Nick, Cait, and maybe even some special guests.

What do Billy Ray Cyrus, Joan Rivers, and Britney Spears have in common? If you said a restraining order on us, you're not wrong, but, also, encounters with ghosts! This episode is all about celebrity ghosts encounters, so we're looking into Billy Ray Cyrus's best phantom friend, Joan Rivers's adventures in ghostbusting, and the haunted house that may have tormented both Britney Spears AND Brittany Murphy. Plus, we kind of sort of invent a drink last second on the air!

Ep. 12 - Not About Wrestling
It's April Fool's Day, and the gloves are off! Nick is coming in hot with a celebrated trickster spirit from Wisconsin, Cait preys on Nick's fears of duende with tales of the Saci, and they both work to screw with each other where they can, as is the custom of the holiday. Cait brings in a traditional Brazilian drink fit for an evil dwarf (eventually), and we take a swing at fictional horror story podcasts (YOU know we love you!).

Ep. 11 - Amanda from "The Feminine Macabre"
We've got a guest! We're almost like a real podcast now! In this episode, Nick and Cait sit down with Amanda R. Woomer of spookeats.com to talk about her haunted restaurant and hotel website, her origin and adventure in hospitality paranormal research, and about her newest book, "The Feminine Macabre", a compendium journal written exclusively by women in the paranormal field. Afterwards, Cait discusses some of her own haunted restaurant experiences, and creates a spooky yet feminine take on the classic Cosmopolitan.

Ep. 10 - Lizzo and the Giant Otter
Happy Amateur Night! In this episode, Nick and Cait celebrate St. Patrick's Day with a couple of Emerald Isle tales. First up is the ghostly denizens of Malahide Castle, then the story of the fierce aquatic cryptid, the Dobhar-chú. After that, we present a bright and fruity St. Patty's cocktail alternative to green beer and stout shot-bomb drinks. Éirinn go Brách!

Ep. 009 - A Haunting in Cognac
In this episode, Nick and Cait discuss two of the biggest and most controversial figures in the world of the paranormal--ghost hunters, demonologists, and psychics Ed and Lorraine Warren. We look at how the Warrens got their start, and at the cases that influenced the core movies of the Warren-verse, The Conjuring and The Conjuring 2. Then, just to make sure no bridge goes unburned, they create a cognac cocktail to remind us of the Warrens' best and worst moments.

Ep. 008 - Rheeming Dickerson
It's nearly Valentine's Day, love is in the air, and Nick finally followed through on his threats to go looking for sex ghosts. In this episode, we take a look first at the 'Lady in Red' phenomenon, then focus on one in particular, Alice Rheem, the specter of Moran Manor on Peugeot Sound's Orcas Island. Nick captures some probably-not-EVP's, Cait eats a lot of french fries, and we present a whiskey-based Valentine's drink sure to knock the sock (and other clothing articles) off your special someone!

It's getting murky in here! In this episode of The Booze + Spirits Podcast, Nick takes us on a quest for bloody Confederate vengeance, Cait introduces us to a Voodoo priestess who refused to die alone, and Theo the dog gets his butt in everything. All this, plus a lemony tequila drink that's sure to thrill your taste buds!

Ep. 006 - Macomb Smokeshow
Where there's smoke, there's fire, and where there's fire, there's the McDonald siblings. In this episode, Nick and Cait have turned their eyes to stories of supernatural smoke and fire this week, as we visit a fiery poltergeist (feuergeist?) in Illinois and a witch's tree in North Carolina that refused to burn down. All this, plus smokey beverages and feet discussions!

Ep. 005 - Christmas Special 2020
Holiday tidings to you all! Once upon a time, it was traditional to gather family and friends together on Christmas Eve and share tales of ghosts and spirits to scare and delight each other, a tradition that sorely needs to make a come back in our opinion!
So in this special episode, join Nick and Cait for a classic Victorian Christmas Eve, where we chill the air with tales of ghostly fur trappers, haunted hot springs, and a ghost named 'Daddy'. It's a double-length episode! That means Cait runs out of alcohol, Nick does NOT, and chaos and over-sharing ensue.
Unfortunately, the Tom & Jerry Batter talked about in this episode didn't come together in time to have the recipe published along-side the episode (stay tuned, we WILL post it in the future). But, being the holidays, we've included some additional recipes (not always of the drink variety!) to make up for the loss, as well as because, hey, it's Christmas!
- Blessed Sacre-Mintini
- Nicks' Favorite Sausage Cornbread
- Cait's First Coquito
- Crazy Caity Rae's Whipped Shortbread

Booze + Spirits Trailer
What is The Booze + Spirits Podcast? Well, give your earballs a listen to this to find out!

Ep. 004 - Hair of the Camel
In this episode, we investigate the legend of The Red Ghost, a demonic beast that terrorized the American Southwest in the late 19th century. From there, things get tangential as we discuss camelcide, ghost miner role-call, and how to properly cook your wine.
*Technical Note: Again, we had some serious audio problems on Nick's side during the recording of some segments, and we apologize. We guarantee that problem has been totally ironed out for future episodes. (Guarantee does not extend to future technical problems. Void where prohibited.)

Ep. 003 – Salty Bill's Limp Richard
Everyone knows at least one story about a Lover's Lane ghost, but let's call these specters what they really are: cockblockers. In this episode we investigate a trio of these incorporeal cockblockers--The Pitcher Man, The Bandage Man, and Skinned Tom. And in case you haven't been blocked enough, a salty, foamy whiskey drink is on deck to try to finish you off. All this, plus Cait gives advice, Nick botches his audio, and both of them overshare about underage drinking.
*Technical Note: We had some serious technical issues this episode, and as a result sound quality has suffered. We apologize, and will iron out the wrinkles as well as we can for future episodes.

Ep. 002 – New London Old Fashioned
In this episode, we travel to the Atlantic coast off Connecticut to visit one of America's most unique buildings, the New London Ledge Lighthouse, and try a bright and bloody take on a whiskey Old Fashioned. All this, plus Nick tripping on his own tongue and bartending sins that will cause Cait to judge you.
