The Bricked PitSep 30, 2021

Do the write thing
In this offweek episode, Adam discusses what's going on in Hollywood these days

S3 EP10: A House Divided
April Seventh, Nineteen Hundred and Sixty-Two. The First Battle of the Bricked Pit was brutal. Private Josh was injured by cannon fire. Doc Adam amputated his right arm in a very painful procedure that was made even more painful by the fact that it was Josh's legs that were injured in the blast. Lt. Jason took massive casualties to his regiment after being given the order to charge. He took no enemy fire. Instead, he led his men into the river. Few knew how to swim. The morale is low as Adam, Jason, and Josh discuss films dealing with the bloodiest years in American history, the Civil War. Listen to them discuss films such as Lincoln, The General, Gods & Generals, and The Birth of a Nation.

The skinny on Skinamarink
Josh stayed up late to watch the micro budget horror. Check out his thoughts

S3 EP09: There's No Way Out
Bake a file in the cake. Dig a tunnel with a teaspoon. Climb the barbed wire fence and outrun the hounds. Josh, Adam, and Jason discuss the prison escape movie. Don't let the screws and warden know that they talk about such films as Escape from Alcatraz, Cool Hand Luke, Escape from New York, O' Brother Where Art Thou?, and Chicken Run.

S3 EP08: Public Enemies
Reach for the sky, and nobody move! This here is a stick-up! While you're filling those bags with cash and valuables, listen to Jason, Adam, and Josh discuss outlaw movies. Those movies with the bandits, crooks, and all around rule breakers as the protagonists. Why are we so infatuated with the bad guys and gals who will only break our hearts and steal our wallets? Find out as the guys discuss movies like Road to Perdition, Run Ronnie Run, The First Great Train Robbery, Footloose, The Italian Job (2003), and Thelma & Louise.

Theaters: "Show Me the Money"
This week on the Hate Box, Adam discusses three terrible ideas that movie theaters are testing in an apparent effort to completely misread the customer's tolerance for nonsense.

S3 EP07: Can You Tell Me How to Get to The Bricked Pit?
Hello there, children. Can you say 'podcast'? I knew you could. Our very special friends from the Land of The Bricked Pit have chosen to talk about educational children's television. Josh, Jason, and Adam talk about all the wonders of PBS and other networks who diligently create and bring meaningful, insightful, and educational programing to our youth. They'll share stories from Clyde the Frog, Mister Roger's Neighborhood, Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood, The Electric Company, Tomes & Talismans, Bluey, Curios George, Arthur, and many more.

We'll Always Have the Bricked Pit
Jason likes old movies and dislikes those who don't. Just because it is old or in black & white doesn't meant that it isn't good.

S3 EP06: The Kids Are Alright
The bulldozers are showing up in the morning to demolish the neighborhood. Kurt unleashed a demonic spider monkey with a laser gun. Chupacabra aliens are landing on the outskirts of town, and all the parents were kidnapped by an evil mad scientist played by that guy who used to do the kitchen appliance commercials. The day can only be saved by the true heroes... kids. That's right, Jason, Adam, and Josh discuss movies where the kids step up and take on those things that the parents can't. Join us in the Bricked Pit as they discuss films like Monster Squad; Honey, I Shrunk the Kids; Invaders from Mars; Incredibles 2; The Facutly; and The Gate. Look for us everywhere you get your podcasts and our Spotify page at: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/brickedpit

I think you should leave.. and watch I think you should leave
Josh talks about Tim Robinsons sketch comedy show

S3 EP04: Badaptations
The book was better. I prefer the original anime over the US live action remake. Playing Battleship was a lot more fun than watching it. Josh, Adam, and Jason discuss those films that just didn't capture the source material 100%. The films themselves may be good, but they just aren't the same as the material that they are drawn from. Hear them discuss movies such as World War Z, the 1998 Godzilla, The Running Man, Clueless, and The Hobbit.

5 Minutes of Adam, Once a Week
Adam misses Saturday Morning cartoons, and he's pretty sure that you do too. Listen as he pitches his idea for a streaming revival that copies that feeling of watching broadcast TV weekend mornings. His Kickstarter will be linked in the video.

S3 EP03: Everybody Loves a Parade

S3 EP04: Working for a Living
If you’re not 5 minutes early, then you’re late for work. Don’t even think about punching out early. You get three 15 minute breaks, so be sure to time your bathroom trips appropriately. We’ve got to get this podcast about films in the workplace out on time. That means everyone from packing to shipping needs to pull their weight so that people can listen to Jason, Adam, and Josh discuss such films as Office Space, Secretary, Glengarry Glen Ross, The Social Network, and 9 to 5.

The sleeper has awakened
After Jason talked about Westerns, Josh decided to talk about some less well known sci-fi movies. Check out this dive into the unknown

Not the Hate Box: Westerns for Beginners
Instead of our usual dose of hate between regular episodes, Jason gives suggestions for anyone not familiar with the Western genre who may want to give it a try.

S3 EP02: The Wizard and the Bricked Pit
It has been foretold that three over opinionated barbarians from the savage lands would start a podcast. Joining them is a stranger from the unknown realm as they discuss sword and sorcery films. Listen to my tale as Jason, Josh, and Adam talk about what constitutes a sword and sorcery film with Cameron from The Green Shirt Podcast and Open Pike Night. Hear the deeds of great battles and wizardry in such films as Conan the Barbarian, Willow, Excalibur, Beastmaster, and the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Explicit Lyrics Warning.

Disney SAVES Andor with a single word
Josh can’t shut up about Andor. The best Disney Star Wars show to date. But it almost bricked the pit at the 11th hour.

S3 EP01: Three Is the Magic Number
Join us for a trip down memory lane as we reminisce about our favorite movies from three iconic years: 1993, 2003, and 2013. Our hosts Adam, Josh, and Jason will each share their top picks from each of these years and discuss why they hold a special place in their hearts. Whether you're a film buff or just looking for some recommendations, this episode has something for everyone. Tune in to the Brick Pit to hear our picks and add some new movies to your watchlist.

Josh meets the Beatles

S02 EP27: And It's Come to This
The clock is counting down to the end of the year. The guys in the Bricked Pit talk about what's happened this year and their hair brained ideas on the future of streaming. Hear them discuss some of their favorite shows this year like Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, Dark Skies, and Old Man for starters. It wouldn't be the Bricked Pit without the guys throwing a little shade at shows like Reacher, Wednesday, and Obi Wan.

Arose such a clatter

S02 EP26: Ho-Ho-Hokey Christmas
As you open that Christmas card from your Aunt Edna with the folded five dollar bill inside, you think to your self, "Why don't the people who make these cards also make movies?" Well, they do. Not only do they make movies, their formula has practically become a genre in itself and has been copied dozens of times over. This week Josh, Jason, and Adam each watched a 'Hallmark' Christmas movie or one of the knock-offs. Listen as they discuss My Southern Family Christmas, Falling for Christmas, and The Noel Diary.

Am I out of touch? No, it’s the children…
Josh can’t move on from Scorsese and Tarantino’s jabs at Marvel.

S02 EP25: Everyday Investigation
You were just going on vacation when you come across a dead body in your hotel room. The cops think that you're the murderer. While they're breathing down your neck, the real killer is getting away. Guess it's a good thing that you're a medical doctor who writes murder mysteries when you're not moonlighting as a private investigator. Josh, Adam, and Jason discuss the mystery genre where normal people have to step in for the police to solve the big mystery. The suspect list contains such films/TV shows as The Zero Effect, Nero Wolfe, Knives Out, Blowout, Lady in White, Confess Fletch, The Thin Man, just a fraction of the Sherlock Holmes adaptations, and much more.

My best friends exorcism or I love the 80s the movie
Josh watched 2 new films this week. Neither survived the hate box. Random ramblings on My best friends exorcism and Disenchanted. Well, like 10 seconds on Disenchanted. Spoiler: it stinks

S02 EP24: When You're Here, You're Family
Turkey day is almost here. That means food and family. *No, I don't know how long it's been in the oven.* It all comes with a lot of preparation and aggravation. You've got Aunt Stella and her new boyfriend coming by later. The in-laws have threatened to drop by early to 'help out'. And Cousin Oliver has some new and as of yet undisclosed food allergies. *I have no idea. Have you looked in the bottom cabinet? I'm busy right now.* Before everything gets out of hand, join Adam, Josh, and Jason in a discussion about dysfunctional families. *FOR THE LOVE OF GOD! I'M TRYING TO DO A PODCAST WRITE UP ABOUT DISCUSSIONS INVOLVING MALCOLM IN THE MIDDLE, MARRIED WITH CHILDREN, THE REF, RAISING HOPE, STEP BROTHERS, LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE, CAPTAIN FANTASTIC, AND FOR SOME REASON GILMORE GIRLS YET AGAIN!*

Don’t vote *
Don’t vote. Don’t trust the media. Don’t trust “Internet celebrities” do listen to this based on the salacious title

S02 EP23: Coming in From the Cold
Footsteps echo through the empty streets illuminated by the dim street lights. You duck into a dark alley to avoid detection by the slow moving police car. You're stuck in a foreign city with enemy agents on your tail and a file full of classified documents and satellite photos. Should you have trusted that seductive stranger? It doesn't matter now. Submarines and missile silos are ready to launch. You've got to get to the embassy to prevent WWIII. Welcome to the Cold War film. Jason, Josh, and Adam discuss such movies as Ice Station Zebra, Red Dawn, Cloak & Dagger, The Living Daylights, Real Men, and The Hunt for Red October.

Rob Zombie’s Munsters enter the hate box

S02 EP22: The King and I
Are you a child with a troubled life and psychic powers? Does your car drive itself and murder your bullies? Do violent religious zealots curse and abuse you? Are you a writer with an alcohol/drug problem? Well, you just may be a Stephen King character? Don't worry. You might be in one of the ones with a good ending. Probably not, though. While you wait for your certain doom to materialize, listen to the latest episode of The Bricked Pit with special guest from The Super Network Bede Jermyn and the other guys Josh, Adam, and Jason as they discuss the highs and lows of Stephen King movies such as Stand By Me, The Dead Zone, The Shinning, Carrie, Firestarter, Dreamcatchers, The Lawnmower Man, and others.

Slow down

S02 EP21: Terror Amongst the Stars

I hate GoT

S02 EP 20: Everybody Was Kung Fu Fighting!
If you wish to learn the secret of Bricked Pit style, you must first unite your body and mind to optimize the flow of your qi. Then, you must muster all of your hatred, passion, and ego to channel it into the unearned self confidence to discuss film theory and history for podcast episodes on things such as the Hong Kong/Taiwanese Kung Fu film genre. Adam uses his Flying Giggle Kick to talk about Drunken Master 2; Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon; Hero; and Kung Fu Hustle. Josh's Burning Hate Punch lays to waste Cripple Masters and Rumble in the Bronx. Jason unleashes his Lunging Double Disdain attack on The 36th Chamber of Shaolin and Dragon. These and other movies will feel the might of the dreaded Bricked Pit style, which consists mostly of sucker punches and insulting one's preferred pop culture entertainment.

Preemptive Hate

S02 EP19: No Money, No Problem
We don't have time to mess around. We've only got 45 more minutes before we lose the light. You only get one take, so don't screw up your lines. Don't worry about the camera. It's just going to be on sticks. We can't afford to move it. That's how it is when you're working on a small budget. Don't worry, this movie will be big despite not having a blockbuster budget. You know why? Because this movie's got something that connects to the public, it's got heart. You don't believe me? Ask the guys from the Bricked Pit. They know about movies like My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Moon, Mad Max, Rocky, Monty Python & the Holy Grail, Pulp Fiction, and Napoleon Dynamite.

What didn't get made?
Adam steps in this week and explains why trying to talk about statistics on a podcast is a terrible idea.

S02 E17: The Giant Guns of Liberty Range
Welcome to the Western, pardner. What we gots here is the old cattle barons, gunslingers, and all sorts of rough and tumble folks who helped tame the wild land west of the Mississippi coming up against all the greenhorns from back east coming in with their fences, locomotive trains, and laws with them. Jason, Adam, and Josh talk about when civilization proper begins to encroach on the Wild West of open ranges and gun duels. Listen to the cowpokes sing the ballads of such films as The Wild Bunch, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, Open Range, Shane, No Country for Old Men, Unforgiven, Giant, and the Young Guns films.

Josh hates cliffhangers

S02 EP16: Saving a Band of Airmen at the Dunkirk
Time to get up, scumbags! We've got a five mile hike followed by rifle training and then another five mile hike! It's my job to get you wimps prepared for discussing the modern World War II movie! There will be talk of post 1990 films about the greatest war in human history such as The Tuskegee Airmen, Band of Brothers, Greyhound, The Pacific, Enemy at the Gates, Dunkirk, and of course Saving Private Ryan amongst others! What are you smiling at, scuzzball?! Where are you from?! The Internet?! There's only two things that comes from the Internet! That's podcasts and cat videos; and I don't see no whiskers on you, boy! NOW DROP AND GIVE ME TWENTY!!!

Josh hates TikTok

S02 EP15: Stop Making the Band: Live in Pompeii
Put on your too tight jeans, do up that hair, and get ready to rock! In your living room! The guys go back to the documentary genre for a little slice of the concert film. What separates these movies from other documentaries? Are they their own art form? Did you just take the brown acid? Oh my god! Keep calm! Take deep breaths, and listen to the guys bring you down by talking about Monterey Pop, The Last Waltz, Depeche Mode 101, Pink Floyd: Live at Pompeii, Stop Making Sense, Amazing Grace, and Neil Young in Berlin. Josh may have been deceptive in the editing by including audio of songs not recorded during the Berlin performance for this episode.

Are you getting what you paid for?
Josh is out again this week for... reasons. Jason steps in again for a short, not so hateful episode on how Disney is getting lazy.

S02 EP14: It Ain't Disney
It's late. The kids have gone to bed. You have the living room to yourselves. The lights are low. You still have a box of wine left. You know what's it time for. That's right. Time to watch some cartoons! We're not talking about that Disney BS with dancing mice. No, the mice here only do the dance of death as they gnaw off people's faces. The guys discuss animated films that are made for more mature audiences... well... at least age wise. Jason, Adam, and Josh talk about cartoons dealing with more adult themes that sometimes have curse words, graphic violence, drug and/or alcohol use, and maybe even some nudity. Join them as they discuss filmmakers such as Ralph Bakshi and Hayao Miyazaki. They talk about such films as Heavy Metal, Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Fantastic Planet, and A Scanner Darkly while also discussing the importance of TV animation like The Simpsons, The Adult Swim lineup, and Archer among others.

Hate loosely based on..

S02 EP13: Excellent! 80's Teen Movies
Are you trying to hack the Pentagon on an Apple IIe? Are you wearing suspenders with a t-shirt and blazer? Is a Culture Club cassette stuck in your mom's Chevy Caprice Wagon's tape deck? Are your Air Jordans kicked up on the mall food court table? You may be stuck in an 80's teen movie. I mean existentially. You really need to get help. Your hairline is not what it used to be and all those bills are way past due. While you wait for your family to show up and take you home, listen to Adam, Josh, and Jason talk about 80's teen movies. What made them great? How well have they aged after 30 years? They talk about 3 O'Clock High, The Breakfast Club, Better Off Dead, Ferris Bueller, Adventures in Babysitting, Iron Eagle, Dream a Little Dream, Say Anything, A Nightmare on Elm Street, and more.

I hate the sugars the great diabetic diatribe

S02 EP12: The King of Mock!
As you sit back in your LazerBoy recliner wearing your Levy jeans and drinking your Dr. Thunder soda, you see by the time on your Rollex watch that it's time to watch a movie. Well, there're only one kind of movie for someone of your caliber. That's the mockbuster. A movie that knows that it doesn't have the budget, cast, marketing, or originality of your big studio A-list titles; but knows that it can be made cheaper and in just the nick of time to ride a blockbuster's coattails to profitability. Jason, Adam, and Josh discuss such films as Troll 2, Death Race 2000, Mac & Me, Missing in Action, and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes.

Walking out

S02 EP11: This House is Clean
You sit in the living room of that old house that you just bought. The door swings open as that old rocking chair squeaks back and forth. Is it all due to that cold draft that you felt chill your bones just a moment ago? Or is it something much worse? An entity of pure dread? At that moment you hear the disembodied laughter echo around you and your heart sinks in the realization that it's Adam and an omen of a new episode of The Bricked Pit. This episode, Josh, Jason, and Adam welcome John from the Open Pike Night podcast to talk about haunted house movies. Join in as they discuss The Changeling, Ghost Ship, The Shining, Poltergeist, Event Horizon, and The Haunting among others.

What’s the deal with airports.

S02 EP10: It's a Disaster!
The earthquake's damaged the nuclear reactor. Its heat is attracting the Killer Horny Toads towards the town. The guys in the Pit decided that since their podcast was a disaster that maybe they should do an episode on disaster films. What are the hallmarks of a disaster film? Why do audiences love them? How much money was Michael Caine's tax bill to cause him to be in so many? The guys talk films like The Poseidon Adventure, Twister, Dr. Strangelove, Armageddon, The Martian, Greenland, The Swarm, and others.

By the Power of Hate Box!
The Great Miffed Lord Josh is out, so Jason steps in for this week's Hate Box to talk about his most hated movie. A live action adaptation tarnishes his favorite toy line, but is it really that important?

S02 EP 08: Soundtrack of Our Lives
Are you strutting around to the cool groove of a smooth Stevie Wonder track? Cranking out the reps in the gym to some Outcast? Driving cross country to some classic Tom Petty? Or just getting drunk to some Hank Williams? Music informs the moments of our lives, and the movies that we love. The guys in the Pit talk about some of their favorite movie score composers and soundtracks. Somehow Adam, Jason, and Josh are able to whittle down their favorites to people like John Williams, Elmer Bernstein, John Carpenter, Vangelis, Danny Elfman, Howard Shore, and Prince to start and soundtracks like The Crow, Snatch, the Guardians of the Galaxy films, and American Graffiti.

I hate sequels that come out too long after original

S02 EP07 Based on a True Story
So the guy that they based the Texas Chainsaw Massacre movies on totally escaped and wound up running a vegan bakery in Seattle. My cousin told me. This other time that podcast The Bricked Pit talked about movies that were 'based on true events' and how a lot of times that's just a load of bunk. You can listen to them talk about films like Captain Phillips, A Midnight Clear, The Town That Dreaded Sundown, Psycho, Black Hawk Down, M, and Into the Wild among others. Plus, Adam announces the contest winners.

Don’t watch the Oscar’s

S02 EP05: That's a Funny Situation
It's Must Listen Thursday as The Bricked Pit returns as a mid-season replacement. Josh plans to run away after only hearing part of a conversation that Adam and Jason have about sitcoms. The guys discuss the evolution of the situation comedy and why it has lasted throughout television. Tune in for discussions on I Love Lucy, Frasier, The Munsters, Friends, The Big Bang Theory, Better Off Ted, Newhart, Red Dwarf, and many others. Check your local listings for time and availability.

I hate Congo (1995)

S02 EP06: For Ages 5 & Up
We're going back to when parenting was filling your bowl with Mr. T cereal and plopping you in front of the TV for a few hours while they sat at the kitchen table staring off into the void smoking Marlboros. You're watching the cartoon based off a franchise about the sexual exploits of police officers, playing with your toys of a murderous cyborg, and wearing your pajamas of a mentally unstable war veteran. In the 1980's and into the 90's, companies weren't going to leave merchandizing money on the table and were willing to sell almost anything and everything to kids. Even the IPs that weren't originally made for them. Jason, Adam, and Josh talk about those properties that crossed the line from grown-up entertainment to toy aisle and animated territories. The Bricked Pit's discussion includes Ghostbusters, Terminators, Predators (the alien kind), Toxic Avengers, Robocops, and Rambos. Let us know of any more that come to your mind because we know that we didn't get them all.

Hate box - just tell the story

S02 EP05: The Hays Code & Hollywood Censorship
The guys in the Pit are back in full swing after being banned by a Tennessee school board. This time Josh, Jason, and Adam discuss the Hays Code that lasted for three decades in the US. Listen as the guys discuss what brought about the Code, how movie productions reacted to it, what led to its demise, and their general jackassery.

Post Covid hate box

S02 EP04: Please Stand By
2022 is doing its absolute best to out jerk 2020 & 2021. When Josh gets hit with COVID, Adam and Jason decide to have a little conversation with you, the listeners. We're laying out our plans for 2022 and asking for you to give us a hand in making the Bricked Pit a better podcast. They also give some recommendations from their recent viewing habit.

I love unreliable narrators

S02 EP03: Gotta Get Back in Time
Do you have knowledge of events that have not yet unfolded? Did you ride a wooly mammoth on your latest vacation? Are you in fact your own grandparent? If so, you may very well be insane. Or a time traveler. Most likely insane. Either way you should enjoy the latest episode of The Bricked Pit where Adam, Jason, and Josh discuss the use of time travel in your favorite movies and TV shows. They'll discuss such films as The Terminator series, Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, FAQ About Time Travel; Primer; Safety Not Guaranteed, Arrival, Loki, Looper, and La Jetee.

I hate anxiety

S02 EP02 You Killed My Father. Prepare to Die
To the last I grapple with thee; from hell's heart I stab at thee; for hate's sake I listen to the latest episode of The Bricked Pit. After starting the year off with talk about redemption, the guys decide to take a dive into the dark waters of revenge. Jason, Adam, and Josh discuss what it is about getting back at someone or something that pulls us in. On line for the discussion are films such as The Crow, Trading Places, Dirty Work, The Sting, Soldier, High Plains Drifter, A Nightmare on Elm Street, True Grit, and The Wraith while kicking Kill Bill while it's down.

People they’re the worst

S02 EP01: Redemption
Man, we heard that you were so bad that Santa just backed up a truck full of coal on your front porch. Don't worry, folks, because it's a new year. It's time to start over and redeem yourself just like your favorite movie characters. But can you? Are you worthy of the redemption you seek? I'd suggest consulting a member of the clergy or a philosophy professor on that one. While you're waiting for them to call you back, listen to Josh, Adam, and Jason discuss the concept of redemption in our entertainment. What does it mean to be redeemed? Is everyone who gets redemption worthy? The guys get into the weeds talking about 3:10 to Yuma, Trainspotting, Logan, Groundhog Day, Falling Down, and Gran Torino amongst others.

Even in the future, nothing works

SO1 EP23 2021: A Year in Review

Suggested hate

S01 EP22 Happy Holiday Part II: Santa's Revenge
Twas the week before Christmas; and all through the Bricked Pit, not a creature was sober. Not in the least bit. All of their hatred would soon be laid bare because harsh criticism would soon be there. Out with the love for It's a Wonderful Life, Die Hard, A Miracle on 34th Street. On with the hate for Santa Claus: The Movie, Love Actually, Christmas with the Kranks, and Hallmark movies. Josh, Adam, and Jason are backed up by the Barking Dog Choir.

The Vonnegut Umbrella
You ever keep away from something for a stubborn or petty reason? Then you my friend have placed something under your Vonnegut Umbrella.
Listen while Josh explains.

S01 EP21 Happy Holidays: Part I
The Ghosts of Podcasts Past, Present, and Future arrive to teach the guys about the true meaning of the Christmas movie. Being the know-it-all jerks that they are, Jason, Josh, and Adam decide to tell the ghosts what a good Christmas movie is really about. They also wedgie the ghosts and take their lunch money as they discuss the various versions of A Christmas Carol (including the Muppet kind), A Christmas Story, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, The Santa Clause, and the Ahnold classic Jingle All the Way.

The P hole, a hatebox Thanksgiving

S01 EP20 Comfort and Joy
It's a lazy night. It's raining outside, and your ankle monitor keeps you in a ten yard radius of the sofa. The TV is there, and it's your friend. Time to flip through the channels and find something good to watch. Josh, Adam, and Jason discuss those films that make them put down the remote and pay attention. We'll find out which films they are prone to watch no matter the time, place, or how far along the film already is. We dig up some fine examples of always watchable entertainment like: Race for Your Life, Charlie Brown; Star Wars: A New Hope & The Empire Strikes Back; Silverado; Pulp Fiction; Bridge on the River Kwai; Beastmaster; and Big Trouble in Little China.

Old man yells at clouds

S01 E19 The Overhyped Movies We Don’t Dig
Unfortunately, it's happened to all of us. Especially when you were young. It wasn't really your fault. You just didn't know any better. You got caught up in the wrong crowd. Peer pressure is a thing. Before you know it, you're using that money that you stole from your mother's purse to buy a ticket to Attack of the Clones. I mean... you saw The Phantom Menace. You know that this isn't going to get any better; but there are your friends waving you into the theater. The latest trailers and Lego sets are racing across their minds. They've succumbed to... THE OVERHYPE!!!!
Join Adam, Jason, and Josh as they discuss those films that rose to the top because someway, somehow the masses were drawn to it; but the films themselves could cast the check that all the hype wrote. Movies in this sphere include but are not limited to The Blair Witch Project; American Beauty, Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull, Donnie Darko, Full Metal Jacket, Avatar, and Joker.

I kinda miss the Satanic Panic
It's Halloween time. I remember being a kid and adults having a great fear of the supernatural.
It kinda made life scarier, but also, more fun.

S01 EP18 The Monster Mash
The chiming of the old grandfather clock notifies us that it is the witching hour. Well, the witching hour for those who go to bed by 7:30. That gives everyone plenty enough time to listen to the recent episode of The Bricked Pit where Josh, Jason, and Adam finish up their horror themed episodes in honor of Halloween by talking about the super genre of the HORROR COMEDY!!!! Get to the work shed as the guys discuss such films as Evil Dead 2; What We Do in the Shadows; Tucker & Dale vs. Evil; Saturday the 14th; Gremlins; and Killer Klowns from Outer Space. Whoever brought the wolfman, could you please get him back on his leash. He's in the flowerbed again digging up Jason's prize begonias.

Star Wars visions

S01 EP17 The Topic That Wouldn't Die
We're coming to get you, Kevin. You and the five other people who listen. Why? Well, because when there's no more room in Hell, the dead shall start their own podcasts and horn in on our audience. Adam, Jason, and Josh are aiming for the head when they discuss the genre that just won't die: ZOMBIE MOVIES. We talk about the slow zombies, the fast zombies, the not quite zombies zombies, and why copyrights are important. We name drop such classics as Night of the Living Dead, Return of the Living Dead, World War Z, 28 Days Later, Dawn of the Dead (both of them), and The Walking Dead among others.

S01 Ep16 An Evening with VGNP

S01 E15 Muh Muh MY MacGuffin
Unlike what Adam believes, the MacGuffin is not on the breakfast menu of a fast food restaurant. Nor is it a hastily made contraption made from rubber bands and chewing gum wrappers to get the hero out of sticky situation. The MacGuffin is that thing that provides the characters with the motivation needed to move the plot forward. The guys define and discuss some of the most famous and favorite MacGuffins from such films as Lord of the Rings, Indiana Jones & the Last Crusade, The Maltese Falcon, D.O.A., and others.

Pretension has a name: Wes Anderson

S01 EP14 Leave The Gun, Take the Cannoli
Hey! What's all the commotion?! I'll tell you what it is. Adam has finally returned to The Bricked Pit and wants to make you an offer that you can't refuse. He leads Jason and Josh on a discussion about films and TV dealing with organized crime. They talk about your Godfather series, your Breaking Bads, your Sopranos, The Wire... Hey! You're not wearing a wire, are you? C'mere. You and me takin' a ride.

S01 E13 It Hurts So Good
Whether it's googly eyed monsters, inexplicable martial arts rivalries, or community theater level acting, there's something we all love about watching a bad movie. Join Josh, Jason, and special guest Super Marcey from The Super Network discuss why we enjoy bad films as well as share some of their favorites like Miami Connection; Cannon Tales: Puss and Boots; Back from Hell; No Retreat, No Surrender; Roadhouse; and The Sword & the Sorcerer. As a bonus find out why Mac & Me is the Wish version of E.T. *Note: This episode is explicit mostly due to scrotum talk.

Josh vs streaming
In the latest hate box Josh gives an extemporaneous lament over the loss of video stores and the advent of same day streaming.

S01 E12 Tonight on Fox
Things get zany at The Bricked Pit when Josh and Jason enact another get-rich-quick scheme by talking about the early years of the Fox broadcast network and how they were pushing the limits with such shows as It's the Gary Shandling Show, In Living Color, Married with Children, The Simpsons, Batman: The Animated Series, and more. Special Guest Phil Smith from Nerds with Wings drops by as the bus driver. Check your local listings for time and availability.

Hate box 3

S01 E11 An Honor For Donner
Josh, Jason, and special guest/Adam replacement Stephen Foxworthy from the Disenfranchised podcast take a look back at the career of Richard Donner. Take a nostalgic trip with such popculture behemoths as The Omen, The Goonies, Superman: The Movie, Scrooged, Maverick, and the Lethal Weapon franchise. We also get to learn Stephen's bricked pit. #releasethestephencut.

Hate box 2. What happened to Timmy B?

S01 E10 Is This the Real Life?
Documentaries. What are they? Where do they come from? How are they made? And how do they end up on the shelf at your local store? The guys barely scratch the surface on this informative format of film. Things get a little nerdy (more so than usual) when some actual film history and theory gets injected into the conversation. Please have your pencils and notepads ready. There will be a test afterwards on such films as Nanook of the North, Rock-a-Fire Explosion, Bowling for Columbine, Gimme Shelter, and others.
