Black History Month - Historian in France: Our Power Lister Dr. Monique Y. Wells
Today we talk to Dr. Monique Y. Wells about the African American Artist Beauford Delaney. This is a fascinating story of Monique's research into Beauford's life and the continuing discovery of his work has led her to explore the fascinating stories of other African Americans who came to Paris to pursue their passion for the visual arts.
Because of her work with study abroad programs, she is aware that African American writers and musicians are far more frequently the focus of such programs than artists. Through projects supported by her newest non-profit organization, the Wells International Foundation, she is committed to rekindling the historical renaissance that 19th- and 20th-century African American artists experienced in the City of Light.
Dr. Monique Y. Wells is a multipreneur – she’s a preclinical safety professional, productivity expert, writer and editor, speaker, and travel professional. A 23-year resident of Paris, France, she is co-founder of the travel planning service Discover Paris! and the creator of the company's Entrée to Black Paris tours and activities.

Hosting special guests and having real conversations between Adrianne and Angela, the Black Women in Europe® podcast will amplify the voices of the ordinary and extraordinary among us by exploring their lives, discussing relevant news, and tackling interesting and difficult topics including racism both subtle and overt; adapting to new customs, citizenship and residency challenges and requirements, hair care, mental health and more.
For the past 15 years, our blog readers have come from around the globe, and today we’re having adult conversations with, about, and for Black Women whose family goes back generations on the continent, are new arrivals, or seasoned ex-pats. We wholeheartedly welcome our family from the Diaspora, our allies, and those seeking to be allies wherever you are.
By the end of each episode, we will make new friends, celebrate successes, and try new things. Listeners will meet interesting people and hopefully won’t make the same assumptions about black women in Europe ever again. Oh, and we’ll have fun along the way.
