Explore Membership: Our Constitution
Explore Membership: Week 4
In this final message of our Explore Membership series, Pastor Michael explains three foundational convictions that shaped the writing of our church constitution:
Biblical Authority Meaningful Membership Healthy Government
Explore Membership: Our Covenant
Explore Membership: Week 3
In this message, Pastor Michael walks through our Church Covenant which says:
We have been brought by God’s grace to repent and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ. We have given ourselves to him and affirmed one another as citizens of his kingdom through baptism and the Lord’s Supper. Relying on his gracious aid, we do now solemnly and joyfully affirm our church covenant with each other.
We will worship and enjoy God as our supreme treasure by loving him and living for his glory in all that we do. We will pursue God through the regular practice of spiritual disciplines and live holy lives in this world, denying ungodliness, and seeking to reflect the holy character of our Lord.
We will walk together in love as members of Christ’s body, caring for each other, watching over each other, and encouraging and admonishing one another as occasion requires. We will not forsake the church’s gatherings and we will faithfully pray for one another. We will rejoice at each others’ happiness and bear each others’ burdens and sorrows. We will work and pray for the unity of the Spirit and the bond of peace.
We will work together to maintain a faithful gospel witness in our worship, ordinances, discipline, and doctrines. We will contribute cheerfully to the expenses of the church, the needs of our neighbors, and the spread of the gospel around the world. We will endeavor to lead those in our care in the nurture and admonition of the Lord, and seek the salvation of our family and friends. We will seek to advance the gospel both to our neighborhoods and the nations through evangelism and missions.
If we leave this congregation, we will join another gospel-preaching church as soon as possible where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the principles of God’s Word. May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with us all. Amen.

Explore Membership: Our Beliefs
Explore Membership: Week 2
In this message we walk through our Statement of Faith, based on the historic 1853 New Hampshire Confession, and we ask four key questions:
What do we believe about God? What do we believe about humanity? What do we believe about salvation? What do we believe about the church?
Explore Membership: Our Purpose
Explore Membership: Week 1
In this message, we explore our identity and purpose by examining three foundational questions:
Who are we? What do we do? Why do we exist?
Stand-Alone: Prodigal Grace
In this message, Josh Slaughter walks us through the story of the prodigal son in Luke 15.

The Church: Members
The Church: Sermon 7
In this message, we looked at 3 questions regarding church membership:
Is church membership in the Bible? What is church membership? What does church membership look like?
The Church: Leaders
The Church: Sermon 6
“We believe a visible church of Christ is a congregation of baptized believers, joined together by covenant in the faith and fellowship of the gospel…The only scriptural officers of the church are elders (also called overseers or pastors) and deacons, whose qualifications and duties are defined in the epistles to Timothy and to Titus.”
In this message, Pastor Michael unpacks the two offices of the church:
The Office of Elder (Also called overseer or pastor) The Office of DeaconHe closes the message with this challenge, "Will you pray for God to raise up healthy leaders in our church?"

Stand-Alone: Gentle and Lowly
In this message, Pastor Michael walks through Matthew 11:28-30 and discusses the heart of Jesus, the invitation of Jesus, and the promise of Jesus.
"Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28–30
(Please excuse the background noise, this sermon is from an outdoor service at a local park.)

The Church: Gathering
The Church: Sermon 5
The rise of online church campuses during the global pandemic of 2020 has led to an important question: "Is the physical gathering necessary to be a church?" In this message, Pastor Michael argues that it is. In fact, a church that doesn't regularly gather is no longer a church. He then unpacks 5 reasons gathering is essential from Hebrews 10:19-25:
Gathering helps us draw near to God. (vs. 22) Gathering helps us hold fast our confession. (vs. 23) Gathering helps us consider others. (vs. 24) Gathering is commanded by God. (vs. 25) Gathering helps us encourage others. (vs. 25)
The Church: Marks
The Church: Sermon 4
Two weeks ago, we looked at the definition of a local church and said that it was an embassy of heaven, but that brings us to a critical question—there are a lot of groups out there that use the term “church” to describe themselves…so how do we know which churches are true churches and which ones are false?
In this message, Pastor Michael looks at 2 key marks of a true church, one that has the authority of a local embassy of heaven:
A Right Preaching of the Word and A Right Practice of the Ordinances. (Baptism & the Lord’s Supper)Mark Dever helpfully explains that these 2 marks are essential because they deal with both the creation and preservation of the church. He puts it this way:
“The first mark [preaching] is the foundation of God’s truth that gives life to his people, and the second is the lovely vessel to contain and display this glorious work. The church is generated by the right preaching of the Word. The church is distinguished and contained by the right administration of baptism and the Lord’s Supper.”

The Church: Nature
The Church: Sermon 3
What is the church like? The Bible gives us dozens of metaphors to help us answer this question. In this sermon, Pastor Michael highlights four of them:
The Bride of Christ The Family of God The Body of Christ The Temple of GodWhat is the church like? It’s like a bride, like a family, like a body, like a temple, like a flock, like a branch, like a house, and so much more—all at the same time! Pastor Michael closed with a quote from Jonathan Leeman who put it this way, “There’s nothing on earth like the local church—it comes from the end of time!"

The Church: Definition
The Church: Sermon 2
What exactly is the church? In the message, Pastor Michael looks at Matthew 16 and 18 to show that the church is an embassy of the Kingdom of Heaven. They've been given the keys of the kingdom which enables them to answer two key questions:
Who is a true citizen of heaven? What is the proper conduct for citizens of heaven? This leads to three key applications:
The church represents Christ and his Kingdom. The church operates under delegated authority. The church is made up of Kingdom citizens. This sermon ends with the challenge to, "Live as citizens of heaven together."

The Church: Purpose
The Church: Sermon 1
Why does the church exist? To answer that question, Pastor Michael walks through the Bible in the following points:
Creation: Why did God create the world? The Fall: What went wrong? Israel: What was God's plan for them? Christ: What did he come to do? The Church: What is our purpose? These points lead to the conclusion that the church exists to display God's glory in the world. As the Body of Christ, the church is God's vehicle for bringing Christ to the world.

This is contrasted with the City of God, represented by the New Jerusalem. The question for us to consider is: Which city do I call home?
In this message, Pastor Michael walks through Revelation 17-18 and unpacks four truths about Babylon, the City of Man:
The City of Man is alluring. The City of Man is inferior. The City of Man is temporary. The City of Man is destructive.“Fallen, Fallen is Babylon the Great! …Come out of her, my people, lest you take part in her sins, lest you share in her plagues; for her sins are heaped high as heaven, and God has remembered her iniquities.” (Revelation 18:2, 4-5)

"Let the peoples praise you, O God; let all the peoples praise you! Let the nations be glad and sing for joy..." Psalm 67:3–4
In Psalm 67 we see a stirring call to missions with a God-centered zeal for the nations. John Piper put it best when he said, "Missions exists because worship doesn’t. The Apostle Paul answers that question in Galatians 5:25, “If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.”
