This week Paul Botto, formally of Google Analytics and co-founder of Lucid Green talks to the Karma Koala podcast about their data solutions and smart QR code tech for cannabis brands and consumers and how that ties into rules, regs, compliance and all the good stuff we need to create a reliable chain of information for buyers and sellers of regulated cannabis products in legalized states throughout the US.

This week we speak to Michael Weiner Partner @ Dorsey & Whitney Denver (CO) about recent legislation brought in by the CO legislature to provide state loans to equity cannabis businesses in the state.

He counsels Boards of Directors and management teams in the areas of equity compensation, corporate governance, Sarbanes-Oxley and other regulatory and disclosure matters. Michael advises clients on intellectual property licensing and commercial contract matters.
Michael serves on the Board of Directors of the Colorado BioScience Association and the Board of Adjustments and Appeals for the City of Greenwood Village. He is an adjunct professor at the University of Colorado School of Law co-teaching drafting of venture capital agreements.

SPECIAL SCOOP
JUICY FIELDS With LARS OLOFSSON, ESQ SWEDEN
Lars is a very busy attorney picking up the pieces for clients after the outing of the Juicy Fields debacle. He's instigating a class action currently for about 10K clients and as he says in his interview.. as this has all the hallmarks of the Russian mafia he's not interested in trying to chase them, rather, he is interested in the facilitators and enablers of the Ponzi and that includes the financial businesses who helped with payment systems and tech.
An Australian fintech company has already been identified and is seriously back-pedalling, but, says Lars. There are plenty more like them out there, he has a list and will be going public soon.
My given name is Daniel Johansson. I am an Juicyfields victim and the one who started this case with Lars and his team. The money we sent to Juciyfields is gone. This case and community is to go after new funds with a movement that is grounded in our desire to make sure this never happens again. We are tired of bullshit – the system needs to be cleaned up, with this case and underlying community we intend to make a change! This is much bigger than me or you. Welcome to join the fight vs these mighty titans.
These are our community guidelines/rules: Read on at https://juicyfieldscase.com/

We finish off the show with our newest regular contributor June McLaughlin who has taken up the mantle of Education Editor at Cannabis Law Journal .. this week June touches on education for Budtenders.
Put simply there isn't much and a lot of it is of questionable value.

The LastLeaf Story
We treasure the art of breaking bread. Gathering around a table or congregating in the kitchen. Preparing each dish, cooking over the stovetop, tasting each step of the way, and then sharing each artfully crafted dish. Reconnecting with our old friends and beginning to bond with new ones. Where friends turn in to family. Food brings us together and delivers enjoyment.
In a world with so many connected components, it is likely we all know someone who has benefited from the cannabinoids in the cannabis plant. It is only a recent phenomenon for the majority of users to have an opportunity to use it legally, and it is even a more recent phenomenon for us to have an opportunity to merge our love of savory, delicious food with the healing powers of the cannabis plant.
LastLeaf is approaching edibles differently: savory flavors and micro-dosing. We work with top-rated, creative chefs to provide culinary products for the American at-home chef. Cooking, just like cannabis, can be adventurous and fun, but we deeply believe in the healing powers of food and the cannabis plant, individually and together. Now we get to share the best of both worlds with you.
Keith’s Song Choice is -Dream by Fleetwood Mac
》REGULAR SEGMENT

Karma Koala Podcast Episode 62 - Investigative Journalist Teri Buhl Talks About Her Latest Story Concerning CO State Senator Don Coram
Colorado State Senator Don Coram accused of using political influence via criminal charges for personal collection benefit
A Republican Colorado state senator, Don Coram, has allegedly used his political influence with the Colorado State Department of Agriculture and the local Montrose County D.A. to get felony criminal charges brought against three Denver businessmen, who ran a publicly traded Cannabis company, for an unpaid purchase of biomass from Coram’s hemp company Paradox Ventures. It’s a landmark case that the cannabis legal community is closely watching.
The Montrose County prosecutors used an old law designed to protect food farmers from businesses that resale, package, or store their products and brought charges against the company, United Cannabis Corp, and its executives for two violations of the farm products small dealer act.

Steve Scheier, author, talks about his new book
POWER UP: ESSENTIAL TOOLS FOR CANNABUSINESS LEADERS
Here's the Amazon Synopsis
There are two kinds of people: those that feel powerful and those who struggle with power. No matter which one you are, reading this book will help you by providing leadership tools to cement your power, especially as you navigate the complex and perpetually shifting cannabusiness landscape.
Yet, power is a tricky subject. As Harvard Business School professor Rosabeth Moss Kanter once said, “Power is America’s last dirty word. It is easier to talk about money—and much easier to talk about sex—than it is to talk about power. People who have it deny it; people who want it do not want to appear to hunger for it; and people who engage in its machinations do so secretly.”
To Kanter’s point, power is often seen as unseemly and uncouth. Except, of course, by those who have it. But the truth is, power is not an option. It must find a vessel: either you or someone else. To make sure you’re the person who seizes—and keeps your power, we offer Power Up.
Here is just a sampling of the book’s principles:
There Are No Small Breaches of Trust Power Changes—Forever and Always Power Doesn’t Come from a Title Don’t Just Make Decisions, Spread Decision-Making Don’t Just Give Feedback, Take ItPresenting both cautionary and inspirational stories, Power Up offers insights
to today’s cannabis and hemp operators so they can better understand power, improve their leadership, and achieve their goals.

First up Heather speaks with...
Jim Bartell, attorney Ken Sobel, and Dr Larry Bedard about California's "Ryan's Law" signed into law by Gov Newson in late September 2021 after a big push by CA state senator Ben Huseo.
After his son's death in 2018 Jim has been asking anybody who will listen in California to help him get legislation over the line to allow end of life patients access medical cannabis in the state's public health system.
We'd just like to apologise in advance for the quality of audio on Jim's contribution to the conversation.. just one of those days when gremlins decided to take on zoom and win !
We thank all 3 for their time to come on the show and talk about the issue and how they are now wanting to take the campaign to a national level.
We will be following closely both at Cannabis Law Report & here on the podcast and we hope to have Jim back again in 2022 when those naughty little gremlins aren't quite so active.

Heather also speaks with James Eichner the co - founder & CSO at Sana Packaging and Erica Halverson CEO at Tiny E Paper and we hope both these conversations will remind all of us that packaging, waste, plastics and the environment are all issues that the industry will have to take far more seriously in 2022.
Both Erica & James talk about NY Senator Hinchey's bill that directs the State's Cannabis Control Board (CCB) to develop a plan that will place industrial hemp as the primary packaging source for all cannabis products made in New York State. ... "There is no other natural resource that offers the same environmental, agricultural, and economic potential as hemp.......19 Nov 2021"

Karma Koala Podcast - Brought To You By Cannabis Law Report Episode 48
This week Heather talks to.
Lezli Engelking founder at FOCUS a company that creates and manages standards for industry and government. She speaks to Heather from Morocco, where she's on business, about standards in the industry, their response to the Schumer bill, banking in the industry, equity in the industry and the importance not only of US standards in the cannabis sector but international standards too as other markets begin slowly to open.
Next Heather speaks David Canady who is the found of a boutique cannabis law firm based in Florida. He talks about the issues in the current Florida state set up, offers thoughts on Federal regulation as well as a general discussion and perspective from a smaller law firm operating in the cannabis sector
Last but not least. Heather bumped into Fab Freddy 5 and Bernard Noble at a conference over the weekend who've gone into partnership with Curaleaf.
B NOBLE was founded in partnership with well-known visual artist, filmmaker and hip-hop pioneer Fab 5 Freddy to raise awareness and create funding to defend people from cannabis-related criminalization. The brand is dedicated to telling the story of namesake Bernard Noble, who was arrested in Louisiana and sentenced to 13 years in prison for possessing the equivalent of two joints. In 2017, Bernard's case began to draw attention across the country, and he quickly became a national symbol for the need to reform the country's unjust drug laws, sparking advocacy and a movement to free him. As a result, Bernard was released seven years into his sentence.
Each B Noble Pre-Roll pack contains two One Gram pre-rolls for a total of Two Grams of cannabis. This number was deliberately chosen for the brand's inaugural product as a reminder of the harsh sentence Bernard faced for possessing the equivalent of two joints at the time of his arrest.
"Our partnership with Curaleaf is our deeper dive into dedicated social equity work," said Fab 5 Freddy. "B NOBLE exists to generate support for the defense of people impacted by the War on Drugs."
We apologise for some of the sound quality as Heather was onsite rather than conducting the interview in more studio like conditions. The interview is a little more freestyle than we usually do on Karma Koala... but then again it is Fab Freddy 5 so freestyle, is in the end, the name of the game.
As always music too.

This week Heather talks to.
Thibault Serlet of the Adrianople Group about SEZ's (Special Economic Zones) & Tourist Zones for the cannabis industry around the world. There are a few locations dotted around the planet where versions of this are already happening. Listen to Thibault to learn where they are and how he believes that having these specified zones will be a big part of the future of cannabis around the world.
Next Heather speaks with Mark Lozzi of Confia a tech company on the banking and especially financing side of the industry. Yet again the cannabis industry through it's non federal status is jump starting ways people think about financing in new sectors.
Finally she speaks with Geoff Selzer & Pam Kerwin of Resonate Brands who are looking to (and already are) precision engineering cannabis to create consumer products that they believe do give consumers a very specific cannabis experience. It is early days but they believe cannabis can challenge not just the alcohol industry but also the soda (soft drinks) sector as well as many other parts of the world of F&B as cannabis gives them the opportunity to tailor a product not just for taste but also experience. Even Huxley only envisaged one type of Soma so it looks like we are being opened up to a wide world of experiences by companies like Resonate as they learn the range of possibilities that the cannabis plant can offer consumers in terms of experience.

She's worked with the African Union in Ethiopia, was born in Jamaica, lived in the US, completed her doctorate in Florida and that's only the half of it. If we had more people like Meghoo running the industry we'd be in a much better place. A wonderful and rather life affirming conversation.

This week 3 great interviews with Heather.
We kick off with a chat with Paul Michael Kiechel from South African law firm, Schindlers, based in Johannesburg. Last year they took a cannabis case all the way to the constitutional court and won, forcing the SA government, (if not to act as yet) at least to understand that they have a legislative duty to citizens to re-frame the laws around both medical and recreational cannabis use in South Africa. Also, along the way we learn about issues with SAPHRA the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority and a little about the culture of cannabis in the country. You won't find a better overview of cannabis, the law and compliance in Soth Africa this year . Thankyou Paul - Michael . Here's his Linked In for those of you who might want to get in touchBack in the US Heather speaks with
Scott Kenyan who heads up Wurk, a new platform that helps cannabis companies big and small with compliance, tax issues HR, payroll and much more . Last but not least Heather is in conversation with Dennis O Neill the president at Biomedican who are in the business of manufacturing pharma grade cannabinoids.
