By Canonically Incorrect

Hi, my name is Maya and I love fanfiction. Hi, my name is Sydney and I love talking about fanfiction with my friends. And we're Canonically Incorrect, your favorite fanfiction podcast! Every Friday, we tell you a story from the world of fan-made media. It could be us recounting fics we'd recently read, telling you the history behind your favorite fanfiction platforms, or interviewing fanfiction authors about their well-known works. Send us your fic recommendations, or reach out if you are a fic author who would like to be interviewed in the future, at canonicallyincorrectpod@gmail.com

Episode 88: Delusional Y/N Authors (w/Mikamochii)

Fanfiction writer Mikamochii (skyfall, loving a monster is probably unconventional, and for this, you were born) joins Sydney and Maya to talk about loving the video game Undertale but not wanting to touch the newest addition Delta Rune, the revolution of Tumblr sexyman Sans, how to fight the stigma of writing fanfiction with a "cringy" character, and why being a Y/N author inherently makes you delusional (because that man would never love you). Plus, Sydney, Maya, and Mika reminisce on the summer of 2020 as being the worst time for their shared Y/N delusions. As always, send us your fic recommendations, or reach out if you are a fic author who would like to be interviewed in the future, at canonicallyincorrectpod@gmail.com.

Episode 60: Friends or Enemies to Lovers? You Decide!

Sydney and Maya step up to the debate podium once again to argue two sides of a shockingly similar coin. Friends to Lovers v. Enemies to Lovers. Both are great romance choices, but which side are you on? The heart-achingly, bittersweet love of falling for the person who you hate the most, or the heart-breakingly, longing of falling in love with your best friend. Do you love the moment where the rival finally realizes their enemy is more than the bane of their existence, or are you a bigger fan of the moment when the childhood friend finally sees the other in new light? What about the angst of being unable to let your pride go and hurting your so-called-enemy who you are slowly falling in love with, or do you prefer the angst when it comes in the form of watching your long time friend/crush fall in love with someone else and you choose to watch from the sidelines and let them be happy with someone else. There are both great sides of the argument, and Sydney and Maya have come as prepared as possible to put their feelings over facts and argue which romance trope is the best.  As always, send us your fic recommendations, or reach out if you are a fic author who would like to be interviewed in the future, at canonicallyincorrectpod@gmail.com.

Episode 52: The Yandere in Your Closet

DISCLAIMER: This episode contains many sensitive topics. If you are easily trigger by or are uncomfortable listening to topics including child sexual abuse, self harm, suicide, domestic abuse, stalking, kidnapping, and torture, please do not listen to this episode and we will see you next week. If you have stuck around, welcome to this week's episode, where Maya explores the violent and disturbing world of Yandere. The Yandere derives from a portmanteau of two Japanese words; yanderu, which means “to be sick,” and deredere, meaning “lovestruck.” Beginning as a character archetype in Japanese anime, the Yandere character has crawled its way into the crevices of fanfiction. This character whose love, admiration, and devotion are so strong that they can and will express it with excessive obsession and possessiveness have now slithered its way into your favorite characters and stories. Why do so many people like writing their favorite characters as deranged, lovestruck homicides? And on the other side of the coin, why are there groups of people who love reading from the point of view of someone so clingy and jealous that their delusions lead them to criminal acts such as stalking, kidnapping, maiming, and even murder? Maybe we'll find our answers today. As always, send us your fic recommendations, or reach out if you are a fic author who would like to be interviewed in the future, at canonicallyincorrectpod@gmail.com

Episode 49: Chicken Noodle Soup Special

It should be no surprise to anyone that we love fanfiction on this podcast. I mean, it is all about fanfiction after all. But when talking about fanfiction, we tend to spotlight the intricate, the detailed, the loooooong multi-chapter fics. While these fics deserve all the love and care in the world, they tend to shine over the one-shot. And where would we be without the one-shot? Fandom would be left without it's backbone for sure, and these two readers would be without a fluffy dose of sunshine to get them through their days. So today, we are honoring the one-shot fanfiction writer. The tiresome writers that constantly keep producing content while the multi-chapter writers haven't posted in months due to burnout. The consistent writers that keep the fandom entertained while the multi-chapter writers try to figure out where the hell the plot is going. In this special, bonus April episode, Sydney and Maya are diving into some one-shots they found to comfort you in your sickest days as these characters would take care of the other half of your OTP. As always, send us your fic recommendations, or reach out if you are a fic author who would like to be interviewed in the future, at canonicallyincorrectpod@gmail.com

We love fanfiction, you love fanfiction. Let's talk about it! It's our first episode and we want you to get to know us! We're Sydney and Maya, two avid fanfiction readers and writers, who, you guessed it, love to talk about fanfiction. This episode is a little messy, but honestly that's very akin to hanging out with us in real life. We hope you join us on our little journey of spreading the good word of fanfiction to everyone! Send us your fic recommendations or authors you want us to interview in the future at canonicallyincorrectpod@gmail.com
