#140 Truth, Reconciliation, & Renewal: Creating Opportunities for All

In today's episode author, William Watson, Ed.d, discusses his book, Twelve Steps for White America: for a United States of America.  Dr. Watson grew up in Mississippi during the civil rights era.  His parents were civil rights workers and his family received death threats from the Ku Klux Klan and other white supremacist groups.  In his book, he applies recovery principles to our national dysfunction of "racialized rigged advantage".  The content in his book has been considered inflammatory.  Dr. Watson shares his struggle with alcoholism and his journey to healing.  He is an Aspen Presidential Fellow.

#106 How to Help Minority Students Tell their Career Story & Get Hired | MWACE Keynote

Today's episode is from an hour long keynote I gave at the 2022 Midwest Association of Colleges and Employers Annual Conference. Despite being widely used, the name "first-gen" has a negative connotation. Yet, many college career service administrators, employers, and even us, first-gen students/professionals frequently use it. I talk about helping first-gen students change the narrative, embrace their journey, value their identity, and the power of vulnerability. To employers, I give simple techniques to help identify first-gen talent.

#25 How to Find Your Remote Dream Job and Silicon Valley's TEXIT

#25 How to Find Your Remote Dream Job and Silicon Valley's TEXIT

In this episode we talk about how Tesla, Oracle, and HP's massive Silicon Valley "tech exit" to Texas (TEXIT) has job seekers wondering whether remote work is here to stay. Why be tethered to the office when you can work remotely and "kick it" in a less expensive area (than Silicon Valley) or near a beach or in another County. Cheryl Lee moderates a lively conversation with Yash Voltaire and Thor Swenson of Lagom Global Consulting Company and myself.  Topics we cover:

How to Find a Remote Dream Job How to pitch an existing office job into a remote job. Keys to keeping your remote job forever What is the COVID effect on remote work? Will remote work continue after COVID is over? Why should I consider moving to another area for work? What's so great about Texas (other than lower taxes and stretching your money further).
