Overhead Athlete Dynamic Warm Up - A Coaching Example

Overhead Athlete Dynamic Warm Up - A Coaching Example

"Overhead Athlete Dynamic Warm Up - A Coaching Example" In this episode, experience an example of a dynamic warm up program geared towards overhead athletes (tennis, track & field throwers, baseball, softball, volleyball). This audio comes from a 2013 collaboration project between Ryan Stevens, MPS, ATC, CSCS and Ian Westermann of Essential Tennis. To compliment the podcast, check out the video segments below for a video of the movements and exercises Ryan is coaching.  While Ryan's approach to teaching dynamic warm up has been updated and adapted over the last decade, this particular system/progression in this episode is absolutely effective and will produce great results with your athletes. Shout out to Ian Westerman of www.essentialtennis.com for the original videos and the collaboration, as well as shout out to the mentors Ryan mentions in this episode who first influenced his implementation of this sort of warm up system: Paul Kolody (AT & Strength Coach in NJ), Robb Rogers (strength coach), Lee Taft (Speed & agility guru), Exos (previously Athlete's Performance - Mark Verstagen) Overhead Athlete Dynamic Warm Up pt 1 – Activation and Mobilization https://youtu.be/fNmFyPlOPeg Overhead Athlete Dynamic Warm Up part 2 – Dynamic Movement Prep https://youtu.be/FgcjRVxWBco Overhead Athlete Dynamic Warm Up part 3 – Power Prep https://youtu.be/7jNvq_BZ32Y

An AT's Guide to Understanding Chiropractors: Kevin Vieser, DC, ATC

An AT's Guide to Understanding Chiropractors: Kevin Vieser, DC, ATC

"An Athletic Trainer's Guide to Understanding Chiropractors - a conversATion with Kevin Vieser, DC, ATC" There is no doubting the value that exists in intraprofessional collaboration. It is unfortunate that often there is "headbutting" which occurs between athletic trainers and chiropractors, and the most likely reason is a lack of understanding of what each side brings to the table. What better way to dive deep into understanding the world of chiropractic care than to speak with a dual-credentialed athletic trainer and chiropractor Kevin Vieser, DC, ATC. Dr. Kevin combines his life-long love for athletics and his passion for helping others into his profession as a Chiropractor and Certified Athletic Trainer. It was during his undergraduate years as an Athletic Training student at Springfield College where he witnessed the impact chiropractic care made on the recovery process of any injury that inspired him to want to do the same for the people he treated. Upon graduation from Springfield College, Dr. Kevin moved to the west coast to begin his studies at Palmer College of Chiropractic - West Campus in San Jose, CA. Not only did he succeed academically, he augmented his education with a wide range of professional experiences as a Certified Athletic Trainer, from youth athletes to Olympians while attending advanced extremity manipulation seminars nationwide. Currently Dr. Kev has his own practice in New Jersey, where his mission is simple: to provide the best care possible, to make it accessible, and to give patients the confidence in their ability to heal. Want to contact Dr. Kev?  More info can be found at www.drkevinvieser.com, and find him on instagram @_DrKev_

Quadrupedal Movement Training - Jeff Buxton, PhD

Quadrupedal Movement Training - Jeff Buxton, PhD

Incorporating Quadrupedal Movement Training into your Rehabs and Injury Reduction Programs with Jeff Buxton, PhD, Assistant Professor - Grove City College. In this episode we will discuss Jeff’s journey from coach to professor, hear about what got him interested in Quadrupedal Movement Training (QMT), and for what reasons he choose to do his PhD dissertation specifically on the effects of a novel ground-based movement training program on Functional Movement, Flexibility, Strength, and Endurance. We will learn about the main findings of his study, and discuss what ATs need to know when incorporating ground-based movements such as animal flow or any other body weight movement system, such as guidelines to determine a starting point, progressions, regressions, or lateralizations. How do we get the benefit of QMT for someone who isn’t comfortable getting on the ground, who has post-surgical CKC restrictions, post-injury tissue integrity limiting the amount of BW through the UE? How do you determine load and repetition volume when it comes to QMT?  Jeff shares his tips for ATs who wish to incorporate QMT into their rehab or injury prevention programs! Check out Dr Buxton's published research here -->  https://journals.lww.com/nsca-jscr/Abstract/9000/The_Effects_of_a_Novel_Quadrupedal_Movement.94204.aspx  Dr Jeff Buxton can be reached at buxtonjd@gcc.edu

COVID-19 Check in - Return to Athletics - Ryan Stevens, MPS, ATC, CSCS

COVID-19 Check in - Return to Athletics - Ryan Stevens, MPS, ATC, CSCS

Fall Sports - are you ready to go? This audio comes from an interview Ryan Stevens, MPS, ATC, CSCS did for the 2020 Somerset County School Nurses Association in August, organized by RWJ Somerset Hospital. The audience of this interview was school nurses, however this should serve as a "check in" for athletic trainers to perform a self-audit where you are currently.  Much has changed since Athletic Trainers and School Nurses were last in school back in March, especially pertaining to sports participation. Ryan shares his experience in a hospital leadership and operations role over the last five months to serve as a reflection point for all who are in the midst of returning to fall sports or organizational activities now.  Ryan discusses the importance of establishing a COVID-19 Response team, who should be on it, and some goals to consider for this team. Additionally, Ryan answers the following questions.  What has changed with athletics pre-participation physicals in New Jersey?  What are the criteria for student returning to sports after recovering from COVID? What are some environmental, safety, facility, and logistical precautions which should be taken in preparation before the sports season for after school middle school and high school sports, as well as any in-person physical education classes which resume? What is the role that telehealth and telemedicine in the delivery of health care will play moving forward, and how should healthcare professionals be preparing for this? It is likely that student athletes are more at risk for injury now returning to sports vs previous fall seasons. Why is that, and what are some strategies that can reduce the risk of injury and overtraining upon return?

CommunicATe: Practical Skills to Enhance Message Delivery by Ryan Stevens, MPS, LAT, ATC, CSCS

Warning: Acting on the prompted self-reflection points and tips in this episode will change your career for the better. Be ready.  :-) Having the skill set to bridge the gap between one's knowledge and the application of that knowledge often can be the difference maker in job satisfaction, workplace effectiveness, and professional growth. As athletic trainers in all professional settings, therein lies a responsibility to take ownership of what we can control to grow ourselves professionally while representing our AT profession in a positive and productive manner. The purpose of this episode is to review a topic not discussed enough in our field: communicATion skills. Athletic trainers, you can greatly improve your effectiveness, influence, and relationships by placing a higher focus on self-awareness and verbal and non-verbal communication skills. With the increased importance of interprofessional collaboration, along with the ever changing need to be able to work with diverse populations, ATs must solidify the foundation of communication as it pertains to rapport and relationship building. Ryan unpacks the verbal and non-verbal aspects of communication , and shares how enhanced communication skills play in building positive rapport.  Learn ways to implement matching and mirroring strategies as a means to enhance understanding and message delivery. You are guaranteed to leave this conversation with some practical approaches for athletic trainers to enhance your relationships with administrators, athletes/patients/clients, coaches, parents, and co-workers to improve outcomes.

This episode is a deep dive into all things telehealth and telemedicine, featuring J. Timothy Sensor, LAT, ATC of New Jersey. Tim shares what has fueled his passion for being involved with the development of AT legislature and practice/licensing acts, and from his awesome experience we will learn a ton!  The reality is, we as ATs have been practicing telehealth for years, but have we been doing it as responsibly? What exactly is the difference between telehealth and telemedicine, and what must you update in your physician-signed plan of care/standing orders to cover you? From a documentation standard, how should ATs be properly documenting and logging Telehealth/telemedicine occurrences, and what should we consider when choosing a platform to utilize? Tim and Ryan discuss the likely challenges an AT will face when implementing and utilizing telehealth/telemedicine? J. The Value of Self Advocacy for Athletic Trainers: Alisha M. Pennington, MS, ATC

Know your worth, show your worth, own your worth. Advocacy is a domino effect which starts with you as an individual, which spreads to impact our entire profession. In this episode, Ryan is joined by Alisha M. Pennington, MS, ATC, and they discuss the importance of self-advocacy for ATs and why we must master this concept. What are the potential outcomes of positive self advocacy? What happens if you go about it leading with your "ego"?  In what ways can positive self-advocacy enhance your compensation and your overall outcomes with your job duties? What are some specific strategies to self-advocate, and why must an AT be self-aware of their advocacy to avoid potential pitfalls which build walls instead of bridges.   Alisha is the founder and owner of ATvantage, an athletic training service company, which she started in 2012 after she completed her undergraduate education in athletic training at Florida State University and her masters in Kinesiology at California State University - Fullerton.  She recognized a need for advocacy and education of athletic trainers to potential clients, especially in California where the profession lacks licensure. While growing the company, Alisha has worked with USA Beach Volleyball & USA Water Polo, traveling domestically and internationally, and is an athletic trainer on the television show Biggest Loser. In her education and advocacy efforts, Alisha saw the need to share information in a public capacity, so she started a podcast in 2015 aimed at educating athletic trainers about the intersection of business and athletic training, and now her podcast is a BOC approved provider for CEs, which she gives away for free.  Alisha speaks across the country to students, athletic trainers, and educators about the business aspects of athletic training, including a feature presentation at NATA in 2018 titled “Principles of Per Diem Work: Liabilities & Legalities” which was later published by the NATA as a Best Practices document, with Alisha as a primary author.  An active volunteer in the profession since 2013, she serves in various capacities across several committees and is currently the District 7 Chair on the Public Relations Committee and a member of the Private Practice/ Emerging Settings committee within the Council on Practice Advancement. You can contact Alisha at Alisha@theATvantage.com and can find more information about her at www.theATvantage.com

cATalyzing Change - Empower through Personal Power (Special Message)

cATalyzing Change - Empower through Personal Power (Special Message)

The mistreatment of our black & brown brothers & sisters, both intentionally & untintentionally, is unacceptable. #BlackLivesMatter There is no "inferior" race, nor is there an inferior ethnicity/religion/sexual orientation/gender identity. While many say "all lives do matter", right now our priority as a world is taking care of those who feel/are treated as though theirs do not. The road to unity & elevATion of those who have been held down starts w/ personal reflection & personal choice. We must make a choice to admit there is injustice, acknowledge the pain, empathetically listen, & compassionately care better. We are ONE team as a human race. The problem is while many people SAY that, too many people do not LIVE that. People struggle w/ unintentional bias that has been cultivated throughout our lifetime because of our upbringing/surroundings/experiences. Because of our emotions, we "react" instead of "respond". We need to realize that sometime we have to take a breath before we speak. Sadly, our black & brown sisters & brothers in this world "cannot breathe." We can be something more, something greATer. Change will come through ownership of personal power, utilized in a productive way, NOT a destructive way. We are all capable of building our personal power, and more importantly we are all capable of SUPPORTING/EMPOWERING personal power in our black & brown sisters & brothers. Own your space. Be growth-minded. See yourself from the balcony. Reach out to those who feel they don't matter. AcT with empathetic purpose. Together we will make an impAcT towards finally changing the world. #BlackLivesMatter #WeAreOneTeam #SpreadLove

Treat Yourself As If You Were Your Athlete: How ATs Must Develop Self-care - Pete Economou, PhD, ABPP-CBT

Treat Yourself As If You Were Your Athlete: How ATs Must Develop Self-care - Pete Economou, PhD, ABPP-CBT

Working in "helping fields" can have significant stress and emotional effects on the providers themselves, inherently interfering with the efficiency, health and well-being, and overall functioning of these providers. It is incumbent upon providers to be selfish, putting themselves first, to sustain a fulfilling and rewarding life while remaining passionate about their work. It is important for athletic trainers to understand the benefits of practicing mindfulness. This talk will address issues related to the practice of athletic training and include the introduction of compassion fatigue, the negative effects of burnout, provide tools for healthy coping, and includes practical examples and practices that athletic trainers can integrate into their busy schedules. In this episode, Dr Pete Economou sheds some light on this topic with audio from a symposium presentation he delivered at the 2019 RWJBarnabas Health Summer Athletic Training Personal Development Symposium. Pete J. Economou Ph.D., ABPP was trained in counseling psychology and is an Associate Professor at Rutgers University in the graduate school of applied and professional psychology (GSAPP), also serving as the associate chair for the Applied Department. Dr. Pete is the founder of a clinical practice specializing in Cognitive and Behavioral Therapy (CBT), he is licensed by NJ and NY to practice psychology, and he is board certified in CBT. Dr. Pete has conducted research in several areas including: multicultural psychology, evidence-based treatments (mainly third wave CBT), Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) issues, and learning challenges related to executive functioning. He is an active member of state and national psychology associations, has been on the editorial board of the Journal of Clinical Sports Psychology since 2014, and is a contributor to media outlets and social media. Lastly, as a student of Zen Buddhism, Dr. Pete has been studying at the Morning Star Zendo with Robert Kennedy, Roshi for several years, which has translated into his mindfulness practices offered through the third wave CBT theories. Remaining Calm: ATs as the Eye of the Storm - Chris Flores, ATC

Remaining Calm: ATs as the Eye of the Storm - Chris Flores, ATC

An Athletic Trainer's chosen mindset is crucial during these different and, in many ways, difficult times. Athletic Trainers have always had to demonstrate calmness and composure during the emergency situations we deal with in our professional settings. Are we still demonstrating that calmness and composure during these times? In this cATalyzing Podcast for ATs episode, Chris Flores, ATC joins Ryan Stevens to discuss how athletic trainers are "built for this".  Also discussed are some coping strategies to keep calm during difficult times and effective daily planning and productivity strategies.  In having to be adaptable, what are some other ways athletic trainers can use the skill sets we already possess in a different way to be productive and showcase value in the ever-changing work post-COVID? Chris and Ryan get into this. Chris Flores, ATC is the owner of FLO Fitness, Co-creator of the Rooted Rehab Certification, Adjunct Professor at Kean University and the former Head Athletic Trainer for Westfield High School. During his 8 years there he discovered many of the same issue that most athletic trainers face trying to manage long hours, family life and personal success. This lead him to creating the FLO-OSOPHY Mindset Program. Chris believes you can have it all in life as long as you define what that means to you. If you want to reach out to Chris for more information, he can be reached out at FloFitness@gmail.com and online at www.flofitnessbh.com.

Developing Your Own Mental Health Emergency Action Plan, with Sandy Lynch Massi, MA, LAT, CCISM

As Certified Athletic trainers, we are often the “go to”, the “handle everything” and the “be everywhere” person. We typically put everyone else first. During a time of crisis, this is likely even more the case.  As we find ways to navigate this COVID-19 pandemic, we also have to remember to take care of ourselves. In this episode I am sharing the audio from a presentation that Sandy Lynch Massi, MA, LAT, CCISM gave last summer at the annual RWJBarnabas Health "We Matter Too" Athletic Trainer Summit.  Sandy is the NATA "ATs Care" District 2 Representative. In this talk she presented ways to help Athletic Trainers recognize when you may have neglected yourself for too long and how to create a plan to get you back to your best. She discusses mental health self-assessment, recognizing when you need to make your mental health a priority, strategies for creating your own mental health Emergency Action Plan, and ways to advocate for yourself as part of the plan.

Sandy has been a certified athletic trainer and career firefighter/EMT for over 18 years and is an instructor with the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation. She is certified in Critical Incident Stress Management and has participated on the Mercury Critical Incident Response Team, a peer support team for first responders since 2002, currently serving as director. Sandy, along with another peer from NJ, helped organize one of the first peer support teams for athletic trainers in America. Serving as the District 2 representative to the NATA ATs Care Committee,  this position tasks her with coordinating team development, training and requests for service in NJ, PA, DE and NY. Additionally, Sandy is an instructor at the Emergency Services Training Center in Westhampton, NJ. where she teaches EMT and Firefighter courses. Promoting Your Profession (An Example) - Ryan Stevens, ATC & David Borchardt, ATC

Promoting Your Profession (An Example) - Ryan Stevens, ATC & David Borchardt, ATC

With National Athletic Training Month (#NATM2020) coming up in March, this is a good time for all athletic trainers to be thinking about ways you can promote yourself as a healthcare professional and your profession to other stakeholders and community members who are potentially touched by athletic training. This year's theme is "Athletic Trainers are #HealthcareInAction", and one way of taking action is to promote yourself and your profession to gain increased exposure and understanding for those you help with your expertise. This episode is an example of one way you can do that. Last year David Borchardt, ATC and Ryan Stevens, ATC had the privilege of being interviewed on a television show by physician Dr. Douglas Ashinsky, where the athletic training profession was discussed. Ryan is the manager of athletic training, Physical Therapy, and Fitness for RWJ Somerset and Hamilton hospitals, and David is director of athletic training for Rutgers University Athletics. This audio is property of RWJBarnabas Health and was repurposed for this podcast. Original video link here: https://youtu.be/ZDwcZebz9h8

All Things Per Diem Athletic Training - K. Ellis Mair, EdM, ATC (Go4Ellis)

All Things Per Diem Athletic Training - K. Ellis Mair, EdM, ATC (Go4Ellis)

At different points of our professional careers, most athletic trainers dabble in per diem work, either as an independent contractor or through an employer. Per diem athletic training is a fantastic way to build experience, grow your network, add additional income, and establish foundations for future jobs. When it comes to working as a per diem athletic trainer, it is not as simple as just showing up and providing excellent care. In this episode, Ryan Stevens sat down with K. Ellis Mair, founder of Go4Ellis, to discuss her journey and "all things per diem", many aspects which any athletic trainer at any level needs to consider when working in this capacity.  Ellis Mair graduated from Penn State University in 2009 with her Bachelors in Kinesiology in the Athletic Training Option. She worked in the Secondary School setting where she was the head athletic trainer for Monsignor Bonner High School.  She began working per diem work in 2010 with NXTsports.  In 2011, she was brought on as the Participant Health and Safety Consultant for NXT.  In 2013, she attended Boston University where she worked as a graduate assistant and staff athletic trainer.  Upon obtaining her Masters in Health Education from BU, she returned home to Philadelphia to become the Director of Participant Health and Safety for the largest youth lacrosse company in the country.  In 2016, Ellis had an idea to streamline and professionalize the per diem setting.  She and a few colleagues decided to create Go4Ellis.   Currently, Ellis is the Co-Founder of Go4Ellis, the athletic training app that links athletic trainers with per diem work opportunities.  She is the Chair of the National Athletic Trainers' Association Youth Sports Work Group.  Ellis currently sits on the Board of Directors for Schema and the Fishtown Neighbors' Association.  Her garden was named a 2019 Garden of Distinction by the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society.  She currently lives in Philadelphia and is a proud dog momma to a labrador and mastiff. You can reach Ellis at Ellis@go4ellis.com and at www.go4ellis.com.

CreATing your Team - Kevin Briles, ATC, CSCS, EMT-B

CreATing your Team - Kevin Briles, ATC, CSCS, EMT-B

Who is on your team? How do you cultivate those relationships?  What does shared accountability look like?  As athletic trainers, inter-professional collaboration is critical for success. We have to think about the "team" we surround ourselves with, anyone who directly or indirectly plays a role in the holistic high quality care and safety of the people you serve. In this conversation, Kevin Briles and I dive deep into the concept of "CreATing your Team".  Kevin discusses who he considers as key players on his team, and we discuss effective and succesful approaches to positive team dynamics. As you further develop your supportive team in 2020, take these tips to heart. A 1997 graduate of Gettysburg College, Kevin Briles has been practicing as a licensed athletic trainer in New Jersey for 22 years. Kevin has served as District Athletic Trainer and Assistant to the Athletic Director at the Delsea Regional School District since 2004. Previously, he served as Director of Athletic Training Services for Kessler Memorial Hospital for six years. Along with his duties at Delsea, Briles has served as an athletic trainer for the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association championships in swimming, indoor and outdoor track, and wrestling at the District, Region, and State tournament levels. Furthermore, he has also served as site manager for wrestling weight certification as a master weight assessor and as a member of the NJSIAA’s Sports Medicine Advisory Committee. In addition to his secondary school responsibilities, he has served on athletic training staffs at The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey and Atlantic Cape Community College, and serves as an adjunct clinical instructor/preceptor at Rowan University. Within the Athletic Trainers’ Society of New Jersey, Briles currently serves as President and sits on the Secondary Schools Committee. In addition to being a member of The New Jersey Scholastic Coaches Association Hall of Fame, Briles, is the recipient of Gettysburg College’s Romeo Capozzi Award, The New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association’s Athletic Training Service Award, and The Gloucester County Police Chiefs Association's Civilian Service Award. Kevin can be contacted via email at KBriles@delsearegional.us

Teaching Lower Extremity Progressions for Injury Reduction - Ryan Stevens & Essential Tennis

Teaching Lower Extremity Progressions for Injury Reduction - Ryan Stevens & Essential Tennis

We're going way back in this throwback episode. Back when I had hair :-). A little while after I moved to New Jersey, I had the opportunity to collaborate with Ian Westermann, founder of EssentialTennis.com, to create a series of videos on injury prevention and performance enhancement for tennis players.  In this podcast episode, we are going to get clinical with some tips you can use both with injury rehab and injury reduction programs, as I share the audio from three of these video segments. In my session with Ian, we review jumping and landing mechanics as a precursor to beginning plyometric training, base deceleration and change of direction skill drills as a precursor for advanced speed, and lower extremity sequence progressions that I have used in the "Performance" realm, with the purpose of injury reduction and performance enhancement. agility, and quickness drills, and complementary lower extremity strengthening exercises such as the single leg squat, single leg RDL, and mini band walking.  Essential Tennis was an idea born of enthusiasm and frustration. Ten years ago, Ian was a teaching pro, feeding balls to club players who didn’t really want to work much on their games. They just wanted an instant fix. Ian, however, wanted to teach students truly motivated to improve their skills. So where did he find them? In his basement. Or, on his computer in his basement, to be more precise. The Internet is where he discovered a growing community of players who simply couldn’t get enough tennis instruction. His kind of people. From the get-go, Essential Tennis has been pioneer in the digital instruction space. It adopted YouTube early on. Now it’s the top tennis instruction channel with more than 102,000 subscribers. It currently offers some of the web’s most comprehensive digital courses. And its distinctive teaching methodology employs a system of progressions designed to improve student play, step by step. The results are undeniable. Diversity, Inclusion, & Cultural Competency for Healthcare Pros - Paula Gutierrez, MHA, CPTC

Diversity, Inclusion, & Cultural Competency for Healthcare Pros - Paula Gutierrez, MHA, CPTC

Athletic trainers (and all other healthcare practitioners for that matter) have a responsibility to provide care in a manner best suited for the person in need of that care. We work daily with highly diverse populations, and often times there may be instances of subconscious bias and unintentional pre-judgement potentially affecting the way we interact and the clinical decisions we make.  The "Golden Rule" of "treat others the way you wish to be treated" is outdated...it's now the Platinum Rule of "treat others the way they wish to be treated, best suited for them." Having an empathetic approach to cultural competency and a strong understanding of how to foster equity and inclusion in your workplace while mitigating bias can be there difference between effective outcomes and broken rapport. Consider this podcast your Diversity, Inclusion, & Cultural Competency 101 course!  Joining Ryan Stevens on this episode is Paula Guitierrez, MHA, CPTC, the Director of Diversity & Inclusion and PROUD Family Health at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset (RWJBarnabas Health).  She has over 10 years of healthcare experience which includes work at NJ Sharing Network - an organization responsible for the allocation of organs and tissues for transplant. Her experience also includes work at NY Presbyterian/Weill Cornell as the Transplant Administrator for the Liver and Kidney/Pancreas Transplant division. A native of Englewood, New Jersey, she went on to graduate from New Jersey Institute of Technology with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and Seton Hall University with a Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration. In 2017, she received the Early Careerist Award from the NJ Chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE). Paula has knowledge in the design and implementation of programs and strategies that foster diversity, equity and inclusion; such as mitigating unconscious bias in hiring and promotion, mentoring, employee resource groups, diversity target setting and other inclusion practices. She has also been instrumental in the expansion of PROUD Family Health, NJ’s first LGBT primary health care center affiliated with a major hospital system. In August 2019, she was appointed as Director of PROUD Family Health where she provides day-to-day operational oversight and programmatic growth. Paula, as a Civil Rights Commissioner for Bloomfield Township, NJ, serves as an adjunct professor at Seton Hall University’s School of Health and Medical Sciences and sits on the board of directors of the American College of Healthcare Executives NJ Chapter. Her hobbies include travel, dining and hiking with her dog. This is a powerful way to showcase our expertise in a way that educates, outside of the normal "setting" we are typically seen in.  Doing so increases brand awareness of our profession, our employer, and ourselves and helps to showcase the value you bring as an AT. A key way to do this is via interprofessional PR collaboration on media platforms such as social media videos, podcasts, radio interviews, and tv interviews.  This throwback episode serves as a thought-provoking example of how Steven Weintraub, DO and I collaborated for the RWJBarnabas Health "RWJ Health Talk" show.  This audio was taken from our January 2018 TV interview (media is property of www.rwjbh.org). Steven Weintraub, DO: Dr. Weintraub is a board-certified physician specializing in sports medicine. He completed medical school at New York College of Osteopathic Medicine, then completed a family practice residency at UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (RWJMS), followed by a fellowship in sports medicine at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. Dr. Weintraub is a clinical assistant professor at RWJMS and maintains memberships in the New Jersey Osteopathic Society, the American College of Sports Medicine, the American Medical Society of Sports Medicine, and the American Academy of Family Physicians. He serves as a team physician for local schools, including Freehold Regional Schools, Howell High School, Freehold Township High School, Colts Neck High School, and Trenton Thunder. He is the consulting sports medicine physician for Monroe High School and St. John Vianney High School. Building Ownership in Those you Serve - Harold Gibbons

Building Ownership in Those you Serve - Harold Gibbons

A key part of success in any injury rehab program or risk abatement program is the ability for the athletic trainer to build rapport and cultivate ownership and accountability in their patients. in this episode Ryan Stevens and Harold Gibbons discuss how they have built this ownership in those they have worked with. Guest bio: Harold Gibbons believes in each person's ability to take control of their lives, and his purpose as a coach is to elevate exercise as an empowering tool to enrich the quality of life of the Ninjas at Mark Fisher Fitness and his personal clients. In his time at MFF he's started the Motivation and Movement LAB series of continuing education event for fitness professionals and the Trainer-In-Residence mentorship for fitness coaches to experience MFF's environment for several months at a time. He runs MFF's Program Design Team, writing personalized exercise programs and group training classes for over 800 of New York City’s most ridiculous humans. This unique experience has lead to a nuanced understanding of how we blend progressive exercise strategies and contemporary coaching concepts to create the most empowering experience for clients of all ages and ability levels.
