Low pressure fitness - What it is and isn't with PT Justine Calderwood
So in this great conversation with fellow pelvic health physical therapist, Justine Calderwood, I learned that:
- Low pressure fitness is about a lot more than just hypopressives
- Hypopressives are a lot more than just "sucking it in".
- This is an ancient practice in some cultures but fairly new in North America
- It is rapidly growing in popularity.
It's a great way to engage the core from the deeper layers outward and controlling breath but true low pressure fitness involves full body movements and overflows into functional movement and postural improvements. Tamara Rial is a teacher and one of the founders of this teaching and someone Justine learned directly from as well as Becky Keller and Alexa Marine (info linked below). Justine Calderwood, MSPT specializes in helping women overcome pelvic floor issues and heal bowel and bladder conditions so they can be active and pain free again, regardless of how long it's been. She primarily works with pregnant and postpartum women to prepare for and recover from birth. She loves helping her patients feel better and learn to manage their pain and concerns independently. She helps people in ways that often surprises them, coming from a physical therapy practice. Justine is a pelvic floor physical therapist and a graduate of The University of Kansas Medical Center. She is a Certified Birth Healing Practitioner through the Institute for Birth Healing, an Advanced Myofascial Release Therapist, a Reiki Master Practitioner and a Certified Low Pressure Fitness Trainer. Outside of work she enjoys spending time with her family, working out at the gym, traveling, scuba diving, and hiking with her two dogs in Colorado where she lives. Trauma and Grief - diving in with therapist Kate Shipp
Changing the conversation around processing grief, ways to address trauma, asking critical and productive questions -- What are my unmet needs?- Who am I measuring myself against? - Am I allowed to have what I want?
Choicelessness, Powerlessness and Hopelessness are usually what lead to and are strongly tied to trauma.
We talk about womanhood, motherhood and how we're often put in a position to choose between things rather than figuring out how to have what we truly want - and most importantly, how we can change that conversation to move forward in a more whole, integrated way! - What legislation and laws might have to do with your food options
Sara is a third generation cattle rancher in Arizona. Her family runs a commercial cow/calf operation in Yavapai County and they started a herd of fullblood Red Wagyu cattle.
