Murder Mystery 2, + Summer Series Picks
It isn't often that I'm left speechless, but after watching Murder Mystery 2, I was at a loss of how to discuss this film on Chick Flick Chat. The second movie murders all the joy, fun, and adventure of Murder Mystery 1. Sad to say, but very true, my apologies to Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler. See my earlier Chick Flick Chat covering the first of this franchise whereI had high hopes and expectations for the follow up film. Time to go back to the drawing board and recreate the cleverness of the first film in what might possibly be a third. Please, please, please! Netflix owes the fans, and the actors, a chance at film redemption!
Beyond the film review, I share with you 3 of my recent favorite series that are worth watching. There are so many streaming options, it's hard to pick, so I hope my brief critiques steer you in a good direction. I do not share any spoilers on the recommendations, so listen freely and enjoy them.
Also, good news... Chick Flick Chat can now be found on Amazon Music (and Podcasts). Woohoo!

Love Is Blind Reunion, Season 4
After the Netflix "live" blunder, Luci chats about all things relative to how it effected what we might have seen on the Season 4 Reunion show for "Love Is Blind." There is and was so much to cover at this reunion, the delay provided another element to the reactions and interactions of the hosts and cast. In this chat, we discuss the couples, the hosts, the interloper, the new production choices - which mostly miss the mark - drilling down on it all! If you are a fan of this show, this is the podcast for you. Please see the earlier Chick Flick Chat episode featuring "Love Is Blind," focusing on the first three seasons and the overall premise and promise of this fun concept. Enjoy!

Where The Crawdads Sing
In this Chick Flick Chat, Luci Weston compares and contrasts the book vs. the movie version of "Where The Crawdads Sing." Whichever format you select, you will not be disappointed by this poignant tale of a young girl who learns to survive and thrive in nature. The book is packed with gorgeous description, and the film does a beautiful job of bringing the visuals to life. Directed by Olivia Newman, and starring the talented Daisy Edgar-Jones, the movie will captivate you and takes you on a journey similar to the novel. In this podcast, Luci delves into the essence of how nature vs. nurture is portrayed and the questions of this age old quandary. While there are spoilers, some of the content of this podcast will have you searching for those answers as you read and/or watch. Enjoy!

The Oscar Awards 2023: The Winners, The Losers, and The Fashion

Women Talking
What can I say about this surprisingly great film? A lot! In this Chick Flick Chat, I discuss not only the excellent performance by an outstanding ensemble cast but also the suburb direction of Sarah Polley. The actresses work seamlessly together, with Judith Ivey, Claire Foy, and Rooney Mara, carrying what is a disturbing, tragic, and amazing true story. This film gave me a chance to really dish the details, and discover the messages that women roles and roles for women offer life in very important ways. So much to chat about, I wish it was a roundtable discussion for this movie! Join me! Note: I said in the opening it was January, but this CFC was recorded on February 8, :)

Babylon
This film is jam-packed with everything a movie should offer, star power, an intertwining plot, fabulous music, and gorgeous costumes. Besides a great cast featuring Margot Robie and Brad Pitt, the ensemble is perfectly cast and there isn't a weak performance. The director, Damien Chazelle, does an outstanding job in this ode to a burgeoning Hollywood one hundred years after its inception. In this Chick Flick Chat, we cover a lot and I tried to drill down on the pertinent aspects and subtext of this visually enticing film. I wade into a discussion of the Oscar nominations that did not - but should have - included this movie for acting and directing. Join me!

Elvis
Just like Elvis Presley, this film is beautiful in every aspect. Baz Lurhmann directs a stunning, and moving film with more detail than I could even begin to discuss. And yet, we discuss quite a lot! Austin Butler turns in an Oscar worthy performance as the bigger than life icon. In this Chick Flick Chat, we explore the bigger picture of what it all means and how this story helps us understand Elvis's journey. So much to chat about in this brilliant production. Join me!
Audio correction: I called the actress Olivia DeJonge, who portrays Priscilla, "Erica," in this podcast.

Tulsa King, Episode 1
In the first episode of Tulsa King, it is definitely the Sly Stallone show... And there is nothin' wrong with that! Join me, Luci Weston, as I dish the dirt and ALL the details of this new series. From the casting, acting, plot, to the underlying meanings, I go in depth about what makes this episode good, and why it could have been great.

The Staircase
In the HBOMax original series, The Staircase, starring Colin Firth and Toni Collette, the most important aspect is that it is based on real events. The fact that this is a true story, combined with good acting, a substantial supporting cast - including Juliette Binoche - and very compelling direction (by Antonio Campos), makes The Staircase a must see. Two spoilers in this Chick Flick Chat, I do chat about the whole story, and FYI: when you watch the series you won't be feeling happy afterward. For all the reasons I mention here, and talk about in this television review, it is worth watching, just don't expect an uplifting tale. In this CFC, I reveal the three main theories of what might have happened on that fated night on the back hallway staircase, and delve into the complex relationships that drive the plot. This story is one that takes you step by step, up and down, and side by side. Listen, watch, and try to decide for yourself. I bet you will come away guessing!

House of Gucci
In this episode of Chick Flick Chat you can listen without worry if you haven't see the movie yet, because I avoided spoiling the plot. It is a fascinating story since it's true. There is so much to examine that I will probably come back to this film after Oscar season to do a deep discussion into the roles for women and women's roles (those are the details at the heart of Chick Flick Chat!). Enjoy!
