Scaling the smart way is something that we cannot start talking about early enough because (and I’m sure you’ll agree) we all have big dreams, but at the same time, we do not want to work a lot.


As entrepreneurs, we usually start our business from a place of love and passion, but if we are not careful, pretty soon that same business can become the biggest stressor in our life.

Most of us start our own business with the same idea: if I'm going to start this thing, I want to do multiple six-figures/ seven-figures at some point. However, when I first started my business, scaling was really scary to me. 

I realized that the reason why I was holding back was that I was terrified of having a team, having people to rely on me for payroll. 

Now, I understand that there are loads of different models, and the key is to scale in a way that works for you because scaling is not a “one size fits all” strategy.  

When I  first started my business, I had no idea of the spiritual world. I started with all the marketing and tech stuff, but I kept hearing the word “mindset”  over and over again. 

At that time, I didn't take it seriously because how is that going to help my bottom line? That had nothing to do with hot core economics. But as I started doing all these different things and making all these adjustments, nothing seemed to work. So, I decided to tap into the spiritual, and as I did that, I started to see things turn into place.

In the past decade, our society has become very aware of valuations and how and why they are important. Now, you might think that the valuation and worth are terms reserved for fancy startups and big companies, but you’d be wrong. 

A business is a business. It's a living, breathing entity with money, people and problems. Big or small, it doesn't matter.   

In today's episode, I am joined by Bharat Kanodia. Bharat has been in business valuation since 2000 and has signed off on over 4’000 valuation opinions in real estate, industrial, personal property, and financial assets, worth over 2.6 trillion.

Wayyyy back in my 9-to-5 days, I worked in the academic publishing industry.  Well, technically, I was an unpaid intern. But somehow, it was still my job to filter through the slush pile. Now if you don’t have any experience in the publishing world, let me tell you what that means.  Basically, the slush pile is a set of manuscripts that are sent by hopeful authors to fancy publishing houses. Authors send in their manuscripts and cross their fingers that the old white guy running the company will select their book. 

But the reality is that it’s college students and interns sorting through the slush pile and deciding which books are worth considering and which ones go straight to the bin.  So, um, sorry if I accidentally trashed the work of the next great novelist during my internship!  It’s no wonder that becoming a published author seems so out of reach for us “ordinary” folks.  

When I was working on my first book, I certainly thought that it would be a crazy endeavor where I’d have to find an agent, submit proposals, and then pray that the publisher would choose my book.  Luckily, there are alternatives to the traditional publishing model now. So your journey from “ordinary” entrepreneur to published author (oo la la!) might be a lot easier than you think.
