Episode 103: Checking In
Sorry for being absent the last couple of weeks! Been a wild schedule but definitely wanted to drop in and check in with everyone. Episode 102: Melvin Battiest
On this week's episode I'm joined by a man with a spectacular story of tragedy and triumph. Meet Melvin Battiest. Mel is someone that I have the pleasure of working with and who has shared bits of his story with me. He spent 38 years of his life locked up for a crime he wasn't guilty of. In that time he got to help countless amounts of inmates find their way into spirituality and now he has taken that same skillset and he is doing the same outside for people being reintroduced into society after a long prison sentence. This is one hell of a story from one fine example of human tenacity.
Thank y'all for joining me and we will see y'all next week! Big love!!!

Today the Sober Caucus met up for a post-convention business meeting and we crossed a pretty monumental threshold. We are able to offer a couple of scholarships to people seeking recovery due to all of the amazing love we have gotten via donations and the like. So to commemorate this milestone, I figured I would do a throwback to an episode from January 2021 where I interviewed Kim Ruff and the concept of a "Straightedge Caucus" was born. Episode 91: Sacred Pillars Church
This week I am joined by Candi and Tiffany from Sacred Pillars Church to talk about the work they do. Sacred Pillars Church utilizes plant based medicines to promote healing and spirituality. The work that they do has helped many people find healing from past trauma, new perspectives on spirituality, and radical self acceptance. Often times people view psychedelic substances as solely a means to party, but these 2 are really challenging that narrative with living evidence that there are genuine medicinal purposes to be found when used with intention. All in all this was one of my favorite conversations I've had so far on the show, absolutely check it out and be sure to go to their website for more info!

I, for one, and beyond grateful that she had the courage to come on the show and talk about this and I hope it reaches others who need to hear it. There's something about the way he is able to spread the message of liberty while also having been involved in ministry that has earned my respect. We talked about everything from ending the wars of aggression to the abysmal state that the criminal justice system is currently in. Check it out and be sure to follow him on social media and donate to his campaign for Governor!

Episode 46: Be Bold w/Angela McArdle
I had the honor of sitting down with the future LP National chair, Angela McArdle, to talk about the lackluster messaging that has been coming out of the national party as well as the gross overstepping the state and federal governments have done in the wake of C*vid. It's a breath of fresh air when you run across someone who is just as fed up with the way things are as you and they're actually putting in the work to do something about it. Be sure and follow along with Angela's campaign trail and if she's going to be at your state convention. Also, find out how the delegation selection process works at your state affiliate so you can go to Reno in 2022 and cast a vote for her yourself! We NEED this type of boldness coming from a party that touts individual freedom!

Episode 45: Work for Liberty
Too often do we see people who are working jobs they loathe and pursuing their passions between time clock punches. My guest today has made it his goal to find an avenue for those in the liberty movement to be able to find employment doing what they love: fighting for liberty! Conner lays out the tremendous work he and others have done with their project, Work for Liberty, which is a nationwide network of individuals helping each other find gainful employment in the liberty sphere. Episode 44: The Life Process Program
I've had on plenty of people (including myself) who have found recovery through the 12 step programs. I've also had several on who have found it through other means and I am always excited when I get to hear someone else's perspective on addiction that I've not yet run across...my guest to day is no exception to that. Zach Rhoads is co-author of the book "Outgrowing Addiction" and is a coach with the Life Process Program, an online based recovery program that proclaims itself to be an "alternative to AA". This is a fantastic conversation with a fantastic person who is without a doubt doing some big things in people's lives. Check out his book available on Amazon and be sure to check out the program:

Episode 43: Narcos Breakdown w/Wilson
Really amped up about this interview! I ran across Wilson on Reddit when I stumbled across his creation, r/NarcoStudios701. I've long since wanted to cover exactly what is happening with the cartels in Mexico but the problem is most of the info I ran across was in spanish and I couldn't quite translate much of it. Wilson has made a hobby out of translating this stuff into english and keeping people informed through his subreddit and YouTube channel. Be sure and listen and follow him on the following:

Episode 42: Guns & Comradery w/Aaron Kenny
Aaron joins me again to discuss guns, the inherent scam that is the NRA, Biden's failing state of consciousness, and some other stuff we ramble about. Aaron and I go way back so when we link up to do an episode we naturally slip into our normal conversations and honestly that's for the best because there's some solid information in there. On top of the conversation Aaron talks about his new substack and hopeful podcast he will be starting up soon which will be an extremely vital source of all things 2nd Amendment and gun rights. Here's another story of redemption from one of the most charismatic guests I've had on the show yet. Jake and I stumbled across each others paths thanks to liberty Twitter and I quickly learned that he was also doing this sobriety thing. I asked him to come on and share both his story into recovery and into liberty. You will definitely enjoy this one! Give Jake a follow on Twitter both @HakeJoward & @soberswolepod

Episode 40: Self Care
An important aspect of living a full life is practicing self care. I wanted to lay some information that I have gathered out there for y'all. It's vital especially within volatile times that we remember to take care of the most important person in our lives: ourselves. This is definitely one of my shorter episodes but it relays adequate information all the same. Thanks for tuning in!

Episode 39: Bedtime for the War on Drugs
Guys this is the end all be all of discourse surrounding eliminating the horrendously failed War on Drugs. I brought 3 friends on to help me this: Kevin Hobbie, Rex Lawhorn, and Jose Galison. In this episode we tackle the 5 most commonly used arguments against decriminlization/legalization efforts. With this episode we prove that drug policy exacerbates the issue of drug addiction. Share this one around everywhere you get the chance!

Episode 38: Voluntaryism In Action
Vountaryism In Action is an organization I have been following for the last few years and they have done some TREMENDOUS things in the way of organizing financial charity for those who need it the most. Not only are these folks working tirelessly to help others but they are also shattering the narrative that people who are against government assistance are somehow against helping those in our communities across the globe who need it the most. One of the best weapons we've seen states utilize in combating the war on drugs has been nullification of federal laws surround controlled substances. Patrick (of the Liberty Weekly Podcast) joins me to spread some knowledge on the topic, telling us in the process how this vital instrument came into existence and how it can be utilized today. Patrick is one of the most sane, intelligent, and coherent voices out there when it comes to learning about libertarian philosophy. Trust me, you NEED to follow this guy. You can find him at:

Here's an episode I have been wanting to do for a little while but never got around to it until approached by Jose. This is a itemized realistic catalog of the various narcotics on the market and what they do. We also discuss how to do them safely, if someone were to make the decision to use. In no way is this an endorsement of using ANY illicit substances, this is for educational purposes only.
Jose is an awesome dude and can be found on:

Joshua Smith is an At Large officer for the LNC and is running for LP National Chair in 22. He was cool enough to come on and discuss both his campaign and vision for the party as well as his personal story with us. Josh is someone I admire and respect for the way that he has handled some extremely unfair and harsh criticisms regarding his past, and I would like to formally endorse Joshua Smith for LP Chair!

Episode 27: Keep Coming Back w/Greg
Here's another story of recovery from a fellow libertarian who is involved within the 12 step recovery community. There's some solid wisdom to be found in here and certainly a little something for everyone. Greg has been through some tough times but managed to come out on the other side stronger. This is one of my favorite episodes so far.
DISCLAIMER: As I type this, I'm super worn out from having stayed up all night attempting to smoke some bbq (ended up being a bust), so forgive me if the audio is a little off and the intro/outro lacks the usual pizazz

Episode 26: Guerilla Politics w/Curt
Really solid interview today regarding the future of the LP and the potential direction the party should take. In seeking to end the war on drugs, political means need to be entertained and what better way to do that than by good old political blackmail. This is still a new concept and I'm sure as time goes along it will become much more nuanced, but for the time being this interview does a great job laying the groundwork for what should be a really compelling discussion in the libertarian community.
Be sure and follow Curt on Twitter: @checkmatestate

Episode 25: A Discussion On Policy w/ Matt Sutton
Matt is the director of media relations for the Drug Policy Alliance, serving as the primary liaison between the organization and members of the media. Episode 24: Battle Buddy Session w/Hayden
Hayden and I go way back and have maintained a friendship throughout the slew of ups and downs that life brings. He's one of those people that when I met him it became clear that we understood each other on a real level. We talk about some of that journey and also some of the more humorous points of recovery.
This is an excellent episode if you're interested in figuring out some of the finer points regarding recovery and understanding addiction.

Episode 23: The Other Side of the Story w/Mrs Clean Libertarian
Today we get to hear from my lovely wife, Mrs Clean Libertarian herself (Hilary) on what it was like to watch a loved one relapse, and what it means to be in a relationship with someone actively pursuing recovery. This is a great episode for anyone who has a loved one battling addiction or who has found recovery and maybe doesn't know where to find support.

Episode 22: How Legalization Gets It Wrong w/Ashley & Kevin
Really great episode today where I invited on Ashley who is a lawyer and far more in the know on the legal aspect of drug policy than I am to come and talk about where we've seen drug policy go the right way and where we haven't. She is joined by long time friend of the CLP, Kevin Hobbie who expands on some of the finer points and between the two of them some killer nuance is presented. This is the conversation that swayed me into dropping my endorsement of legalization over decriminalization.
Also premiering our very own intro song for the first time, provided by Alex One of the band Whisky Grenade! They've got a new album dropping the first of next year so stay tuned!

Kevin: @HobbieReal

Episode 21: Harm Reduction Recovery w/Trent
In todays episode I was able to bring on Trent to discuss his journey of finding freedom from alcoholism through cannabis. We also discussed kratom, Moderation Management, and what the legal cannabis marketplace looks like. Lots of good information in this one for those who might be looking for an alternative recovery route that isn't 12 step oriented.

Episode 20: The Election That Wouldn't End w/Sapere Aude
Got the gang back together to discuss what we hoped would be an election NIGHT episode...in typical 2020 fashion, our plans were ruined se we had to break it up into two separate recordings (and its still loosely up in the air). I always have a great time talking with the boys and I hope yall can find a little humor out of this breakdown from your favorite resident invalids.

CLP Update

Episode 19: Sadler Spotlight
I had the pleasure of sitting down to talk with one of the most wholesome candidates I've ever met. Greg Sadler hails from Newalla, Oklahoma and is putting in the footwork to win the District 17 Senate seat. Greg is an easy going guy who doesn't shy away from the hard hitting topics he's been confronted with in this election cycle.

Episode 18: Wilder Larkin on Recovery, Philosophy, and Gardening
This was a really fun episode! I love when people who have been through hell and back share their story of hope with others and this episode is no exception to that! Wilder tells us about where she came from, what happened, and what it's like for her now. I hope yall enjoy this awesome story of compassion, self examination, and determination.

Episode 17: The Armed Bear on Bottom Unity, Hoppeans, & Lolbertarians for Biden
I really enjoyed this episode. Jay is one of those sage individuals who really knows how to convey his principled stances and it was great hearing from him regarding the concept of bottom unity and what (if any) relation there is to libertarianism and the growing LibSoc movement. We also delve into Hoppeans and the utterly brainless "movement" the is the "Libertarians for Joe" group that is attempting to gain traction.

Today I had the pleasure of talking to Joe Hartman regarding his run for congress in Michigan's 8th district as well as his position on ending the Drug War, he then went on to discuss something I haven't really thought about: ending Daylight Savings Time. All in all this was a really fun conversation and a closer look at where the government gets it wrong, both in regards to addiction and our most precious commodity...our time.

Episode 14: Defining a Cult, The Story of Our Experience at My Brothers Keeper w/Justin
I had my buddy Justin back on so we could discuss our time in MBK, a faith based rehabilitation center that uses questionable methods and has even more questionable outcomes. What happens when a drug dealer goes from selling heroin to selling Jesus? Tune in to find out.

Episode 13: The Case for Legalization w/Sapere Aude
I had the pleasure of sitting down with Dylan and Aaron from Sapere Aude and getting into the finer points of why legalization is the ideal path forward when discussing ending the War on Drugs and how best to combat the fear mongering that occurs therein.

Episode 12: An Interview w/The ToddFather
