#166: Are you constantly anxious and overwhelmed? Wish you could make career changes or simply feel happy with where you are in life, but anxiety is keeping you stuck?
Today, we're diving into the topic of anxiety and how to effectively manage it.
- Anxiety affects a significant portion of us, but understanding and addressing it is essential for a fulfilling life.
- I'll share insights from my own experiences, clients, and experts, so you can conquer anxiety and regain control of your life.
- 11 anxiety hacks you can immediately implement to help you gain control of your life again.
Understanding Anxiety:
- Anxiety is a common experience; nearly 80-90% of us encounter it in various forms.
- It can manifest physically and mentally, impacting careers, relationships, and overall well-being.
- Recognizing anxiety is the first step toward overcoming it.
My Personal Journey:
- I personally dealt with anxiety for years without realizing it.
- Awareness came when a therapist casually mentioned my anxiety during a marriage therapy session.
- It's not uncommon for people to be unaware of their anxiety, as I was for the first three decades of my life.
Anxiety's Impact on Health:
- Anxiety triggers the release of cortisol, a stress hormone that can hinder progress in various aspects of life.
- From career advancement to relationships and even weight management, anxiety can put everything on hold.
Physical Manifestations:
- As a dermatology Physician Assistant, I see anxiety manifest in skin conditions like acne, psoriasis, or eczema.
- Stress hormones exacerbate these issues and can be a significant factor in their development.
- Healthcare professionals and individuals working in high-stress environments often experience anxiety, impacting their well-being and decision-making.
Types of Anxiety Responses:
- Anxiety can manifest in different ways. For some, it leads to hyper-focus on areas they can control like micromanaging their food or exercise.
- Others may resort to coping mechanisms like overeating, excessive spending, or numbing out with Netflix or alcohol.
The Life-Altering Power of Anxiety:
- Anxiety can drastically alter the course of our lives.
- Imagine it as a path diverging in two directions. Managing anxiety gives you the choice to follow a different path.
Understanding Emotions:
- No emotion is inherently bad; they all serve as clues about what's happening in our minds.
- Anxiety is a natural response, but unchecked, it can dictate the story of our lives, limiting our agency.
Rewiring Your Brain:
- Anxiety rewires our brains, creating neural pathways that perpetuate anxious thoughts.
- The key is catching yourself in these thought patterns and rewriting the script to form new neural pathways.
Common Anxious Thoughts:
- Anxious thoughts often include feelings of inadequacy, fear of failure, or playing the victim.
- Identifying and challenging these thoughts is essential to regain control.
Anxiety and Safety:
- Anxiety stems from a primal instinct for survival.
- In ancient times, it kept us alert to potential dangers. Today, it's a response to feeling unsafe in our environment.
Using Anxiety as a Clue:
- View anxiety as a clue, not an enemy.
- Ask yourself what your anxiety is trying to communicate and how it's trying to help.
I'll review 11 tricks you can use to tame your anxiety and keep it from steamrolling your life.
- If someone you know is dealing with anxiety, share this episode to offer them guidance and support.
- Reach out if you're interested in coaching or have questions. You can contact me via at hope.cook@gmail.com or go to my website to schedule a complimentary discovery call at www.coachhopecook.com

2. What if you saw your struggles as tests in the classroom of life?

6. Stay in Your Lane:
- Comparison is a tricky game. I'll teach you why it's crucial to focus on your unique path and not get caught up in comparing your struggles to others.

- Grab your pen and paper, folks. We're diving into self-reflection and journaling. These tools are essential for processing emotions and finding clarity during challenging times.
8. Emotional Intelligence and Coping Strategies:

If you've found value in this episode, I'd love to hear from you or meet with you on zoom to explore whether life coaching might help you with your ride on the struggle bus.

#163: How a marriage retreat changed my life. My retreat insights include how you can climb out of your career rut and choose to become a stronger version of you despite burnout or hardship
Chase and I went on our first-ever marriage retreat after finding ourselves in a relationship rut for the past year or two. As I learned new ways of thinking about things and how to shift my perspective, I realized the information would also help my wonderful podcast listeners with their career struggles.
Reach out if you're struggling and schedule a complimentary discovery call with me. We'll see if we're a good fit for life coaching. My email is hope.cook@gmail.com or go to my website, www.coachhopecook.com

#162: How to predict with 93% accuracy whether or not your job is doomed
I've done a lot of therapy and reading to make sure my marriage is able to survive, but when I read John Gottman's book The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work, I started seeing parallels with work relationships. Dr. Gottman talks about the "Four Horsemen" of marriage. These are things like contempt, defensiveness, stonewalling, and criticism. If present when a couple is interacting, Dr. Gottman says their relationship has a high likelihood of collapsing. The same could be true with your workplace relationships. If you're shutting down or filled with contempt for your boss, guess what? You might need to start job searching. Or, you can work on turning it around. I'll go through the 4 horsemen and how they might show up in your workplace and what to do about it to try and salvage your job.
Want to meet me and talk about how I can help you with your own career burnout or overwhelm? Let's do it! Reach out by email at hope.cook@gmail.com or go to my website to schedule a time to talk!

#161: Decluttering Time and Energy Suckers (and this includes humans). Why do I feel so drained and exhausted, plus, what do I do about it?
It's time, people! You finally get to nail what's sucking your energy and wasting your time. I'll teach you how to figure out who or what needs to go bye-bye and how to carry this out. If you like this episode, listen to 159 and 160 for decluttering your space and decluttering your emotions.

#160: Emotional decluttering: Why can't I "get over" my fear, anxiety, or self-criticism? How your emotions are keeping you stuck and what to do about it
In this episode I review the most common emotions I encounter in my life coaching. I'll give you steps to figure out which emotions are "body snatching" you, how to be a thought detective, how to do a thought audit, and finally, what to do about those BIG emotions keeping you stuck.

#159: What's one of the fastest ways to get clarity (and lose the chaotic thinking) around your job future? This tool can be used immediately to move you past burnout or stucknes!
Today I share a powerful tool that can help you clear out the clutter in your life and create space for meaningful change. In order to move forward on your career journey, you'll have to clear out the space to become (whatever that means for you).
Who Can Use This Tool: Are you ready to embrace change but find yourself overwhelmed by where to start? This episode is for anyone who's feeling stuck and yearning for a new direction, whether it's a career shift or a fresh perspective on life. If you often get lost in the details or struggle to imagine your next steps, this tool is designed just for you.
Who This Isn't For: If you're currently in survival mode or immobilized by the thought of change, this episode might not be the right fit for you. This tool is best suited for those who are ready to dream and take action.
Introducing the Declutter Decoy: The Declutter Decoy, is a game-changer that helps you create order and clarity in your life. This tool was taught to me as the "living space tool" by Martha Beck, but I like calling it the Declutter Decoy because it can shift your mindset without you even realizing it.
How It Works: Our lives often become cluttered, hindering our ability to see the bigger picture. Imagine zip-lining through a forest – you see the tops of trees and bald spots that are invisible from the ground. The same applies to our lives. We're going to explore four types of clutter: physical, emotional, human, and time clutter over the next few episodes.
Step 1: Physical Clutter: Physical clutter is present in everyone's life – from messy drawers to chaotic closets. The disorder distracts you from focusing on your dreams. Establishing order and discipline in your environment is essential for growth.
Examples of Physical Decluttering: We delve into practical examples of decluttering, from cleaning out your purse, and getting a haircut, to tidying up your car. Physical clutter affects decision-making and drains our energy.
The Declutter Decoy Technique:
- Select a small, stress-inducing area in your space.
- Describe it in detail – how it looks and makes you feel.
- Contrast it with a clutter-free area that brings you calm.
- Analyze the feelings and sensations each space evokes.
- Identify parallels between cluttered spaces and areas of your life.
- Make cluttered spaces feel more like the calm ones.
- Break down the process into the simplest steps.
Personal Example: I share my experience using the Declutter Decoy technique to tackle my purse clutter, and how it relates to my social media posting habits. By taking small, manageable steps, I'm working to bring the calm and purpose I feel in coaching to this aspect of my life.
Applying the Technique: You're encouraged to take the lessons learned and apply them to your own cluttered spaces – whether physical, emotional, human, or time-related. By taking even the tiniest steps, you can create significant shifts in your life.
Conclusion: Remember, making even the smallest changes can lead to significant results. Just like a ship adjusting its course by a single degree, you can chart a new path and arrive at an entirely different destination. Embrace the Declutter Decoy and start recharting your life with hope.
If you found this tool valuable, don't forget to subscribe, share, and leave a review. Until next time, keep decluttering and keep believing in the power of change.

🗣️ In this thought-provoking episode, we'll dive deep into the world of self-compassion and its profound impact on healing burnout. You may have heard Kristen Neff's remarkable TED talk on the subject, but get ready for even more eye-opening revelations!
🚀 Discover how fostering radical self-compassion can transform your life, boost resilience, and dissolve the chains of self-criticism.

#156: How to cut back to part-time especially if you think it's impossible. 3 tools to get you there. And why cutting back may not be the magic solution you've imagined it to be.
After reading dozens of Facebooks posts and comments from people who say they'd love to cut back to part-time but can't, I decided to share 3 tools to give you the shift you need to make it happen. If you've longed for a change in your schedule but a part of you says it'll never happen, this episode is for you.

#153: Burnout Step #3, Should you resign your job or can it be revived? How to know whether to stay or go
Will you be terrified? Yes! Can you afford not to decide? No, not if you want to live a life filled with purpose and joy again. You may not be ready for this step, maybe you're still in the freaked out paralyzed Step #1, maybe you're in the planning and dreaming phase of Step #2, or, maybe you're finally ready for the action of this step!
Not sure which step you're in? Or, maybe you need help navigating this whole burnout thing. Let's talk! Schedule a complimentary discovery call by reaching out, hope.cook@gmail.com or find more info on www.coachhopecook.com

#155: Are you stuck in your current job situation? Burned out? Does your situation feel impossible? Giving yourself permission to change your mind and take brave steps!
Want to know a trick to determine if you're resisting change because of fear? Tell yourself you have to stay put and see how that feels in your body. If it feels bad, you need to make changes. Likewise, if you tell yourself you can have a do-over and change your mind, and if your body feels free, relieved, or expansive, this is a sign you need to make a change.
Plus, how to talk to fear in a way that'll calm it down and allow you to choose the right path going forward.
Now, your turn: Are you stuck and afraid to make a change? Are you terrified you'll disappoint someone if you choose a different path? Why aren't you allowing yourself to make a change? You're not reading this by accident. You were meant to listen to this episode and read this. Wherever you are in your journey, now is the time. Now. Is. The. Time. Reach out and we'll talk. Don't worry, I'm friendly and I won't force you to do anything drastic. hope.cook@gmail.com or check out my site www.coachhopecook.com

#154: What do you need to get unstuck? MORE (money, time, benefits, bonuses)? or LESS (energy drains, hard tasks, and time sucks)
After I listened to this episode on the Hidden Brain podcast I had an ah-ha about how this fits into burnout. We often think we need MORE of something. More help, more money, more vacation time. But what we really need is LESS. We need to find our friction points and minimize them. For example, what if you're a working mom and you have zero time or zero patience after work? Getting a big fat bonus check won't make you get unstuck. But, if you work fewer, but more efficient hours, you'll have more time. What if you didn't have to help the kids with homework and cook supper every night? Identifying your pain points and then brainstorming how to let them be easier will change your life.

#152: Burnout Step #2: How to figure out your career options. How to dream of new possiblities, brainstorm solutions, and get unstuck!
Step 1 was all about inner work: admitting you're lost, confused, and stuck. This step is all about dreaming and giving yourself permission to do so without rules or restrictions. Have you ever noticed how, when you first experience an "I'm stuck and don't have a clue what to do next" type situation, you become paralyzed for a while? Then, you eventually start seeing glimmers of hope, you start brainstorming and thinking "what if" type thoughts. This is step 2!
Most of my clients start out in step 1 (see prev episode)--they might be burned out with their work, momming, or both. Or, maybe your job isn't so bad, but you get the nagging sense you're being pulled in a new direction. Both of these types of clients eventually progress to the 2nd step. Regardless of which stage you're in, reach out and I'll help you navigate in the dark forest and along the rocky cliffs. Schedule a complimentary discovery call by reaching out, either by DM or old-school email (hope.cook@gmail.com). For more resources, my website is www.coachopecook.com
See ya next week,
Hope

#151: Burnout Step 1: What to do when you find yourself lost and confused about your work situation with no clue what comes next or how to feel better again.
Every single time life throws us a curve ball (aka CHANGE), we go through the 4 stages of change according to Martha Beck. When you first experience a big change, you might feel completely lost, angry, or have total disbelief. Listen to find out more about stage 1 of the change cycle and how it relates to your career.

#150: How to get yourself out of career messes and crappy work situations without losing yourself in the process.
Did you hear the story last summer about the lady who fell head-first into the porta-potty while trying to retrieve her cell phone using her dog leash? I use this fascinating story of (attempted) resilience and failure to illustrate what we can do when we find ourselves in situations involving shi%$y work situations.
If you're curious about whether life coaching can help you get unstuck or make your next career move, let's talk! We'll meet up on zoom and chat.

#149: NO! Learning when to say no and how to say no will immediately drop your stress and overhwhelm. If you're burned out, whittling down your yes's and ramping up your no's is an easy first step!
The day I recorded this episode I said YES to bringing my son's computer to school when he forgot it. I wanted to say no, but mom guilt and people-pleasing made me say yes. 20 minutes later I was pulled over and given a ticket. I've learned that lesson and tried to share my insights and tips with you!

#148: Health and lifestyle hacks you can implement immediately to help your burnout and overwhelm. As an added bonus, you'll feel better physically and emotionally
When I was asked to write an article on burnout and how lifestyle medicine can help, I dragged my heels, thinking I wasn't perfect enough to offer tips or advice. But, it turns out I already do many of the things lifestyle medicine promotes, and you can, too. They're not complicated and don't require enormous change. And I can promise you'll feel better if you try these on for a week.
Let me know if you tried any of the tips or if you'd like to discuss your own overwhelm, burnout, or stuckness! hope.cook@gmail.com or go to my website, www.coachhopecook.com

#147: Perfectionism can drain your battery quickly, leaving you depleted and miserable. Can you allow yourself to be a B- instead of A+? Plus, how to identify energy drains and energy chargers.
For years I held myself to such high standards I made myself miserable. I walked around on Empty. But I wasn't able to see that I was the problem. Instead, I blamed others and my job. Learn to assess which things fill you up and which things drain you, then give yourself permission to let go.

#146: How to deal with ANGER at your job, boss, coworkers or family and how to look underneath the anger for the hidden message.
Y'all know I share too much sometimes, including arguments with my husband, yelling at my kids, and being mad at whatever injustice I think I've suffered. Today's episode takes a look at what the anger is all about using examples from my own life. I'll give you a few tools to use the next time you feel angry. Don't let anger cause you to "burn down" your life or your marriage. Instead, look underneath it and get curious about why it's there.

#145: How to handle career disappointments and how to make decisions with your eyes wide open.
In this episode I share a vulnerable truth about not getting to do the Mastercoach program I applied to, I talk about the mistakes I've made when I squeeze my eyes shut and hope for the best, and I tell about a relative who ate poison by accident.

#144: How do you know when to quit vs when to stay? This huge career decision is broken down into bite size chunks of wisdom from a world-champion poker player
I was so blown away by Annie Duke, cognitive psychologist and world champion poker player. Her ideas around quitting are beyond helpful if you're struggling with this decision. As I was listening to an interview with her and I pulled over, grabbed a sheet of paper, and started taking notes. I haven't read the book yet, so this is sort of the Cliff Note version, but if you're on the fence about quitting, please invest the next 15 minutes in listening to this!
And, if you decide you definitely need to make a change, I'm your girl! Well, maybe. Maybe not. Not if you're psycho, ridiculously needy, or have stalker-ish tendencies. Otherwise, reach out if you're a semi-sane person struggling with career stuckness. #143: What should your next career move be? How to use distance to get a wide-lens view of the situation even if you can't escape to Italy
After 20 years of marriage, we thought it was time to celebrate with a childless trip to Italy! Listen for tips on how you can get the same perspective shift without leaving your home!
If you're interested in life coaching, reach out! I'm not scary, and I won't guilt you into signing up if it's not right, I promise. My personal email is hope.cook@gmail.com or visit my website at www.coachhopecook.com

#142: Should you quit your job, keep going, or pivot? How to use your body as a tool to know the right decision for you.
This is the last episode of Season 3, so click the subscribe button so you'll receive new episodes when Season 4 starts.
In the meantime, why not get coached?
Who I coach: burned-out working women who can't imagine staying in their jobs for another 10 years, but they a) feel a lot of GUILT for not loving their job b) aren't sure WHAT they'd do next c) aren't sure HOW do leave or pivot.
Why use me? You know life is too precious to waste years being in a job you dread. I've been there and came out stronger on the other side. You can, too! I've got tools that I'll teach you so you can make life adjustments going forward.
When do I coach? When my kiddos are in school from 7:45-3:00
How do you reach me? Schedule a complimentary session on my site or shoot me an email hope.cook@gmail.com

#141: Fear: is it scaring the crap out of you? When to listen to fear and when to act anyway. How to discern intuition vs. fear, and what fear might be telling you
Were you scared of things as a kid? We all were. Are you still scared of things? Again, we all are. But how we handle that fear determines how we live our lives. How do you know when you need to sit up and pay BIG attention to fear? I'll also talk about the different kinds of fear.
Included in this episode: my childhood fear of kidnapping, my fears about my kids, and how fear may have kept my son safe at a birthday party when he was 5.
Are you considering life coaching? My ideal client is a working woman (usually they're moms but not always) who isn't thrilled with her work life but she feels trapped and isn't sure if she can or should consider quitting. And yet she goes to work day after day feeling misaligned, out of sorts, and overall meh (or UGH!).
That's my jam, so if you need help, reach out! Schedule a discovery call here, it's complimentary!

#140: What I've learned about life after getting my first dog, including this gem: It's much better to let our messes sit for a few days before we try to clean them up.
Yes. I, the staunch non-dog person, now has a shelter dog I adore. And wow, what a great teacher she's been! Listen in for tips you can use in your everyday life.
Want to explore whether or not you need life coaching? Let's set up a time to chat. The first call is complimentary, just email me at hope.cook@gmail.com or click here to schedule

#139: What to do when you're stuck in that awful middle place of life, miserable but not sure whether to leave, stay, or go? How falling off a log into frigid water helped me get unstuck
When you're frozen in uncertainty, the good news is that the situation won't stay the same whether you act or not. Even by not making a move, you're essentially making a move, right?
Taking a good look at where you're stuck and what your options are can be a relief when things start piling up and weighing you down. I'll share how a fall into frigid water gave me the ah-ha I needed!
If you're a woman in the throes of career woes, reach out! Group coaching will be starting in a couple of weeks, or you can consider 1:1 coaching!
See you next week,
Hope

Brief pause for holidays

#138: Is perfectionism interfering with your happiness? Is it keeping you from taking action? What to do when you hear that voice telling you you're not good enough
Have you proudly proclaimed you're a perfectionist? I used to think it was a good thing to try and be perfect. Why settle for mediocrity when you could put forth a little more effort and be perfect? The problem is, of course, none of us are perfect and we can't maintain that standard. This is me in my closet chatting with you about my flaws and what I do when the perfectionism monster climbs on my back.

#137: Finding yourself-have you ever looked at your life and wondered "Who am I? What am I doing?!" or felt lost, stuck, or burned out? How to rediscover who you are and what you want!
Reading the intro to the book, Reviving Ophelia, I had so many ah-has about how we as moms lose decades of our lives to other people's needs and wants. We give up our own selves to become the version of us society wants and needs us to be. What happens when you wake up in your 30's or 40's, look at your life, and realize you have no idea who you are or what you want? I'll give you a road map of small doable steps to rediscover yourself.

#136: Who's got the end-of-the-year blues? Feeling sad about how the year is wrapping up, or maybe you just feeling sorry for yourself? How to turn that pity party around in 8 steps!
I describe how we think, feel, and act when we're in the throes of a slump, a pity party. Then, I contrast that with how you'd be better served by giving you 8 easy to follow steps (one is to shave your legs!). If you're prone to dipping low, this is the episode to listen to!

Take care and see y'all next week!

#135: How compartmentalizing your life into "air tight pods" will help you be more present and cease all the worry and anxiety about the future.
As we drove the 4 hours to my hometown, I jotted down stories from my life, my clients' lives, and my patients' lives to illustrate how we create pain by living in the future and past. By living in our cocoon of the present moment, we "seal up" our lives against needless worry and anxiety.
If this episode resonates, consider sharing it with a friend. Or, if you'd like to apply for a spot in my group coaching (starts 1/23), send me an email! Check out my free resources and coaching offers on my website

#134: "I can't keep doing this!": why 99% of my clients reach out. I've been there and I can help you either a) keep doing "this" but on your terms or b) stop doing "this"
I'll share how I often fight against "what is" (ie, reality) and how this causes more suffering than the situation itself. Imagine you're in a job you no longer love but you feel trapped. It appears you have no options. The thought bubble above your head frequently says "I can't keep doing this!" I'll give you the hard truth about how to look at your options and make a choice.
I'll also share how I fought against "what is" twice in the last 12 hours: with a big travel goof-up and a sleep study gone awry.
If you can relate and want to try changing your own reality or at least your perspective on it, reach out! You can send an old-fashioned email to my personal email (no assistant yet, unfortunately!) hope.cook@gmail.com or get all fancy and send me a DM on Instagram @coachhopecook
Lastly, if you're an action-taker like I am, get yourself on over to my website and book a discovery call to see if we're a good coaching match. It'll be like a date except you can wear your pj's and it's free!

#133: What to do if you're not ready to take a giant leap into the unknown: For those who don't necessarily want to quit their jobs, they just wish things were different and better.
My life coaching mentor, Martha Beck, has used the metaphor of swinging from a rope swing to help clients determine if they need to jump, keep swinging for a while, or stay on the safety of the rock for a while longer. Maybe you've considered taking a leap, but something tells you it isn't time. Or maybe there are things you can do to make your current job be a better fit so you don't have to jump off into the unknown.
If this episode resonates and you'd like to explore your "leaping options" with me, click here to set up a complimentary discovery call or check out my website for free resources.

#132: 6 steps to do when you're out of gas, you've hit a wall or when Poo hits the fan. When you've given up hope that you'll ever find your way again, come back to this episode.
I sometimes coach clients who've mustered the courage to do something big--quit their jobs, start dating, get a degree, and then BAM! It all ends and they're back to square 1. This is such a hard place to be--they experience loneliness, sadness, and feelings of shame. Listen to this episode or share with a friend who's going through it. Tip: Don't tell them about a similar situation you or a friend has had. Bite your tongue!

#131: Afraid to admit you need to make major career changes? Waiting on permission but deep down you already suspect the answer? A coaching DIY episode guaranteed to give you clarity!
For at least two years I read every self-help book I could get my hands on. I saw three different therapists, I listened to career clarity podcasts, but when it came down to it, I knew what I needed to do. When I read Martha Beck's book, Finding Your Own North Star, I had so many ah-has! Finally, I was ready to answer those hard questions and take off my blinders. In this episode, I'll ask you many of those same questions. Get ready with your pen and paper!
And if you're not a DIY kind of person, let's sit down together with a mug of coffee (or a glass of wine) and I'll ask you all these and more!
Schedule here!
Oh, I almost forgot! If you're interested in being a client on air for my podcast, shoot me an email at hope.cook@gmail.com You'd get free coaching and I'd get a change to show my listeners how coaching works!

#130: Your career journey from stuck to "arrived," step-by-step with tips for each phase. Roadblocks, detours, dead batteries, and hills are all part of your career journey, learn how to tackle them!
I bought a new car yesterday, but the journey started months ago with a totaled vehicle. I use the metaphor of a dying/dead car to explain your career journey from the beginning (unhappy, "dead" and stuck at your job) to the big leap (being "all in") including all the detours and unexpected events along the way ("what the heck was I thinking?!"). And yes, you will finally arrive at your desired destination (my new car finally makes it home to my driveway).
This episode is a sneak peek into the journey I guide clients through when they come to me with stuckness. If you'd like to learn more about how I life coach or if we're a good fit, schedule a complimentary coaching session (calendar is here) or visit my website for more info about me!

#129: Should I quit my job? Listen to this episode if you've been asking yourself this question or any "should I..."- type questions. These are the tips I wish someone had shared with me 8 yrs ago
Do you find yourself wondering if you should do x, y, or z? Do you wish someone would just tell you what to do? Follow these tips and you'll be shocked at the shift you feel after only a few weeks.
Schedule your very own session with me to discuss your own "what should I do" dilemma. I won't tell you what to do, but I'll show you how to know your next right step.

#128: How learning about all the parts inside you (Inner Critic, Judge, Perfectionist, Pleaser) can help you overcome stuckness. My take on IFS (Internal Family Systems) therapy
IFS seems to be all the buzz these days--or is it just me because I'm a therapy-addict? I'll explain how this way of thinking about ourselves can give you a new take on your areas of least satisfaction. For example, is your inner Perfectionist making your mom-life miserable? Is your Pleaser keeping you at a job you should've left 2 years ago? Is your Rebel making trouble in your relationship?

#127: Your thoughts are driving your feelings, which drive your actions, which result in you being on the path you're on (like it or not). If you want things to change, try these easy "thought tools"
One of the first things I do with clients is to ask them what they'd change if they could wave a magic wand. In other words, what do you wish was different? Instead of naming things they have control over, they'll say things like, "I wish he would..." or "In my ideal world, she would....". I explain how the only thing they can truly change is themselves and that starts with noticing what's going on in their bodies and their minds. I'll share a few simple tools you can get started with!

#126: The deadly triple cocktail: People Pleasing Perfectionism. How to know if this is keeping you stuck and learn how to remedy the problem!
Like many of you, I learned to please others when I was a child to ensure I was liked/loved. I put others first and was rewarded, further compounding the belief that my needs come last. I'll share what I've learned to help treat this condition and get unstuck!

I'm a victim frequently (twice this morning already!) Being in a mud-pit of despair and wearing a woe-is-me attitude kept me stuck in a job for 3 years too long. But, there's hope (pun intended!). Actually, I'm so grateful for that 3 year period because it was a huge opportunity to grow and change into who I am today-a life coach helping other women figure out how to have careers filled with joy.

I have several clients who learned to be non-feelers somewhere along the way. I've been there myself, stuffing and compartmentalizing emotions and feelings. If you're a regular listener, you know our bodies don't bode well when we put issues in our tissues. Listen to this episode if you're an "It's okay. I'm okay. I'm fine, everything is fine" type woman.

Autumn got her first nudge in 9th grade when she felt pulled to work in law enforcement as a victim advocate. Sometimes she listened right away when she'd get a nudge, other times she'd resist. Hear her amazing journey of following the nudges of career changes, moving to Hawaii, and writing a book.
I took tons of notes on this podcast, if you want to see all the show notes, go on over to www.coachhopecook.com and you'll also find Autumn's link to her site and her podcast!

#119: Michele Neskey, high-achieving healthcare mama discusses letting go of guilt, finding the courage to leave her job, and rediscovering who she is at her core
Michele Neskey, aka founder of the Posh PA, kept me laughing as she walked me through her life as a mom, a PA, an entrepreneur, and all the other roles society assigns to us. We get to hear how she made the decision to start hiring others to help her in her business (helping pre-PAs get into school.) This investment in herself led to a huge business growth spurt. Then Michele chose to take another chance on herself when she realized she continued to work longer and harder at her job as an oncology physician assistant despite receiving less and less appreciation. We discuss guilt over leaving a job and how to reconcile this in order to truly find yourself.
What about you, are you mired in guilt and indecision over a job situation? Still trying to find yourself? Maybe I can help. Let's hop on a complimentary discovery call and see if life coaching is for you! Or, reach out via email at hope.cook@gmail.com

#118: A Voice during Kristi's bleakest period rescued her from severe depression to living in her "zone of genius", allowing her to finally take ownership of her life
(*trigger warning, attempting suicide is discussed in this story in the context of an overdose)
Today's guest, Kristi Amdahl, first tried to end her life before she'd even hit her teen years. With raw honesty, she shares how, even as the daughter of a preacher, she'd never really had a relationship with God, but in her darkest hour, when she'd given up all hope, she heard a voice. She began to slowly turn her life around, upgrading one aspect at a time until it was a complete turn-about. From her teen years aspiring to be a Vegas stripper to now letting her soul guide her, Kristi's story will no doubt touch you.
