Construction Champions Podcast 37 Kolton Myers – Building Referrals Through Integrity and Relationships

On this episode of Construction Champions Podcast Kolton Myers and Ron Nussbaum talk about building a 7-figure business from referrals! Kolton has mastered the action it takes and the follow-up needed to build high-level relationships with those in the industry and today he tells you what it takes.

Kolton’s Bio

Born and raised in Arizona.

I had a difficult time through school. Not academically. I was just a pissed off kid. I fought almost daily. How I was not kicked out of school is beyond me. My mom dipped out when I was about 7 or 8. My step dad adopted me. I say step dad but he was there since almost day one.

I pushed a-lot of friends away with my anger and hate. But I learned from that and overcame all that BS.

Graduated high school in 2011.

In high school I worked at a car wash. Where shortly after graduating I was promoted to site manager. I quickly became bored with the car wash industry. I quit with no plan or back up job. I was hired on at a local remodeling company. Quickly learned that I didn’t like hanging drywall. So I put feelers out. My Aunts restoration company was seeking a helper.

So in June 2012 I was hired. About 6 months into the industry I was thrown into a lead technician roll. Where I quickly had to learn the industry and quickly built my skills of problem solving. I quickly found a passion for the industry.

hard working by nature, I rose to the top of my aunts company over the span of 10 years. October of 2021 some massive changes were up and coming that I didn’t want to be apart of. I had an opportunity fall in my lap. And that was to start my own restoration company. That’s where Diamondback Disaster Services was born. My aunt new my plan but her now Ex husband did not so as I planned my departure he found out what I was doing and rightfully let me go on the spot in December.

He made it easy on me I wasn’t sure how I would have that conversation. I truly do appreciate everything I learned from him and that he introduced me to this amazing industry.

January 2022

Luckily I had a few months of months of planning under my belt I had significantly reduced my personal overhead. Refinanced my house, sold my Rzr, used funds from refinance to pay off truck and other debts and put money in the bank.

A great Friend of mine Eric owner of Eco roofing solutions gave me a sales job to help me out and give me something to do while I waited for my non compete to expire.

June of 2022 we fully launched

June-December we did 650k in revenue!

2023 I plan on hitting 1.5million!

When I’m not taking care of clients and ensuring the highest quality possible. I enjoy personal development, out door activities sports with the kids, fishing, Off-roading, Pokémon battling and collecting with the kids, and playing and collecting Magic The Gathering for me.

Construction Champions Podcast 36 Josh Huite – The Vison Must Start With Understanding YOU!

On this episode of Construction Champions Podcast Josh Huite and Ron Nussbaum talk about what the best version of yourself can really do for your life and company. We unpack and travel down a road many will not address when it comes to health and drinking in the construction industry.

Josh’s bio

I’ve been in the trades for 30 years now. During my formative years as a tradesman, I was fortunate to have someone point me in the direction that not only changed my life, but it also changed my business. The impact those skills had, and still have, are just as valuable as the technical skills I acquired over my career. They allowed the company and team to advance forward in a saturated market where there was no standard. My drive and purpose now is to share those skills, strategies and lessons to improve the standard, perception and the appreciation of the men and women that build this country. Coming to you as someone that has worked out of a toolbelt most of his life, these principles I am sharing with you changed everything about me, my experience as a technician, my influence as a LEADER and added tremendous value to my clients.

Construction Champions Podcast 34 Matt Dibara – What’s Your Companies Rubber Duck?

On this episode of Construction Champions Podcast Matt Dibara and Ron Nussbaum talk about the roadblocks of hiring and what culture should look like as you grow your company. With 104 years of data Matt continues to investigate the corners of the room to improve his own company and helps others do the same.

Matt’s bio

Fourth generation mason Matt DiBara mixed his first bag of concrete at age 9 and went on to spend most of his childhood learning the trade, eventually placing first in the national SkillsUSA masonry competition. From there, he branched out to attend the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, where he earned a degree in Construction Management and Environmental Design.

After graduating, Matt took over his family's construction business and relocated to Los Angeles, where he went on to be mentored by the likes of marketing guru Jay Abraham and business tycoon Mike Agugilaro of CEO Warrior fame. Since then, he has built up DiBara Masonry to become the leading masonry and concrete company in the county, working on some of the most prestigious and well known celebrity homes in the city, in addition to restoring a number of Hollywood's most famous cultural landmarks.

At DiBara Masonry, we are proud to be a fourth-generation company. Michael Larusso and Matteo DiBara emigrated to the United States from Italy in the early 1900s, leveraging the one skill they had to support themselves: masonry. Each of them built his new home from brick and stone, with the help of the neighboring community and from the ground up. At the time, it may have appeared that they were merely constructing residences, but it would turn out that they were building the foundation of a legacy that would last for decades.

About me:

I graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma with two bachelor’s degrees, one in Finance and the other in Insurance & Risk Management. I worked in the banking industry for about a decade during and after college, where I rose from a Teller to a Credit Analyst.

In December 2017, I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, which kicked me into gear and showed me that life doesn’t just happen for you; you have to make it happen.

Then the pandemic happened. As someone who is immuno-compromised, I started working remotely. I applied to jobs all over and was was finally hired as the operations manager/business advisor for an accounting firm called iCFO. Construction Champions Podcast E-23 Tom Reber – How To Survive The Business Fight 101

On this episode of Construction Champions Podcast Ron Nussbaum and Tom Reber talk about numbers and the daily fight you have as a construction business owner. Tom is an expert at overcoming the daily struggles that cause most to fail and he helps others over the roadblocks.

Tom Bio

My name is Tom Reber, and I come from a family of tradesmen. That’s me and my dad in the picture.

My dad was a tile guy — my uncle and grandfather were painters.

They worked hard. Each day they’d come home tired, dirty, and stinking of a job site.

We were broke. I grew up in Wheaton, Illinois. It’s an expensive place to live. My friends’ dads were all doctors, lawyers, and dentists. I never had the money to hang with them.

In the summers, I worked for my uncle. At least as a painter, I didn’t have to crawl around on the floor and lug heavy boxes of tile.

I never wanted to be in the trades. It looked like a shitty option to me. So straight out of high school, I joined the Marines.

When I got back from the Corps, I got a job in sales, selling rebar and other building materials. It paid the bills, and I was pretty good at it, but I was never going to get rich.

A family friend needed his deck stained. I told him I could do it. A couple of days later, I pocketed $1,800. This painting thing was easy!

I bought a beat up Ford van from my uncle for $1,200. He even threw in an extension ladder.

I was in business!

On this episode of Construction Champions Podcast Ron Nussbaum and Elizaveta (Elizabeth) Tylor talk about books and your numbers, how to be prepared for when Uncle Sam comes calling every year. Elizabeth gives us easy steps to get our numbers in order for our business as well!

Elizabeth’s Bio

Hello! My name is Elizaveta Tylor and I’ve always been passionate about connecting with people and trying to help them with their work overload. I know how hard it is for a business owner to carry all the weight and perform multiple tasks at the same time.

I have seen plenty of business owners trying to gather their financials in a hurry to make sure they don’t miss tax filing deadlines. One of the biggest misconceptions is that business needs to have the books done just for taxes. In fact, knowing how to read your financial statements could lead you to a more prosperous and profitable entity.

You want to partner with a bookkeeper that would understand your business needs, someone you could brainstorm ideas and consult with, and share your concerns and success. I can help you stay in control of your numbers! Based in Grand Rapids, MI, I help not only local businesses to grow, but businesses all around the US.

When I partner with my clients it is a professional commitment that brings value. I record transactions, hold meetings to discuss the financial reports, make suggestions by providing honest feedback, come up with profitability and budgeting strategies and create a useful system for your business.

Construction Champions Podcast E-12 Laura Cooley – Communicating What a Construction Champion Means

Construction Champions Podcast E-12 Laura Cooley – Communicating What a Construction Champion Means

On this episode of Construction Champions Podcast Ron talks with Laura Cooley who has devoted herself to helping create the future leaders in the construction industry. We dive into what is a champion.

Laura’s Bio

Over my career, I have morphed from an engineer to an on-site construction professional to a corporate leader to an entrepreneur. I have developed a deep respect for the industry and what I call the “Construction Miracle”. Even though I have been involved in multiple aspects of construction, I am always amazed that buildings are ever finished: so many people, so many challenges, so many tools, materials, and resources. It really seems impossible; and yet, the evidence is there for all to see in every road, bridge, and building.

I have focused my energy on leadership development in the construction industry because I respect the work, the risks, the people it takes to make vison a reality. I like to think my work helps nurture business and future leaders. I believe healthy cultures are comprised of people who feel like they belong and are valued and that these environments are made and destroyed by the day-to-day human interactions at every level of an organization. This is why developing talent, cultivating leaders, building high-performance teams, operating effectively and efficiently are all intertwined and mutually important. When I consult, I emphasize the interaction of strategy, process, results, and people. When I conduct training, I seek to spark insight--I look for that moment when each person finds something they make their own so they can apply it the very next day.

Being a BOD Board member is important to me because our industry can only be successful only when there is multi-discipline collaboration. The Construction Institute is one of the few organizations that specifically strives to break through our silos to bring visionaries, leaders, and practitioners together to improve the industry at large.

Construction Champions Podcast E-10 Jason Payne – Growing Into My Best, Not The Industry Standard

Construction Champions Podcast E-10 Jason Payne – Growing Into My Best, Not The Industry Standard

On this episode of Construction Champions Podcast Ron talks with Jason Payne a man on absolute fire both professionally and personally. He shares what was the moment it all changed, and he started dominating.

Born and raised in Arizona, serving the community he feels has given so much to him is what drives Jason on a daily basis...

Jason was brought into the roofing industry at an early age where he hit the ground running with his strong work ethic and "go-getter" mindset. Starting with simple admin tasks and running errands, Jason quickly fell in love with the business and soaked in as MUCH as possible from those around him... no matter how big or small the task!

A hard worker by nature, Jason quickly rose to the top of every organization he worked with, which culminated in finally fulfilling his dream of starting his own roofing company: State 48 Roofing.

Over the last 10+ years, Jason has handled EVERY aspect of the roofing business, from office work to being on the roofs himself, which makes him such an incredible and valuable asset to his customers. When it comes to roofing, Jason cannot be beat in knowledge, expertise, and most importantly care.

He takes pride in his work, and personally guarantees that each job performed will be the highest quality possible. Think about it, what other roofing expert can you think of that makes sure each and every roof worked on is given #SexyRoofStatus

When Jason's not taking care of his customers, he LOVES spending time with his wife and five kids...

If he's not on a roof, in the office or with a customer, you'll most likely find Jason with his family at a softball game, on the sand dunes, or out camping!

To his family, friends and customers, it's common knowledge just how much Jason loves helping others... and not just with their roof!

Believe it or not, one of Jason's hobbies includes cooking! And not just for anyone. As he puts it, "Cooking for 2-10 people is kind of boring. The fun REALLY starts when you've got over 100 people!"

And Jason literally puts his money where his mouth is. in 2019 alone, Jason has donated his time, money and energy to cook at events such as Teacher Appreciation Day (over 100 teachers), multi-organizational youth group event (over 300 teenagers!), and several religious group events near his home.
