GCM Menstruation, Sexual and Reproductive Health Course

Congratulations for completing the Menstruation, Sexual, and Reproductive Health course by GCM. We hope that you enjoyed it and learned a lot.

As you will recall, many of the teachers asked you to share this course with your friends as a lesson challenge. When we created this course, one of the main objectives was to make sure to provide as many tools and resources as possible so that all students can become advocates for sexual and reproductive health rights and for science-based education on the subject.

This last section is a call to action to take your sharing this information a step further and become an advocate for the cause.

In the 20th Episode of the Menstruation, Sexual and Reproductive Health Course Shomy extensively discusses the process of menopause, including its various stages. We will learn the different symptoms by which we can identify whether one is nearing menopause.

In the 19th Episode of the Menstruation, Sexual and Reproductive Health Course Laura and Shomy talk about abortion and the various reasons why abortion is performed. They explore in detail the different options available to end pregnancy, and the risks that may come with these processes. You can also expect a brief discussion on the varying opinions on abortion around the globe.

In the 18th Episode of the Menstruation, Sexual and Reproductive Health Course Vinuri gives you an introduction to covering topics such as the age of consent, choice and empowerment, communication, and safe sex. You will practice how to have healthy conversations with your partner/s and breakdown the taboo around talking about sex and consent. She will define rape, how to support survivors, as well as provide resources towards healing.

In the 17th Episode of the Menstruation, Sexual and Reproductive Health Course Anna talks about Gender and Sex. She discusses how there are not two genders (male/female, which are considered the Sex someone is born as) but how there is a wide spectrum and that identifying with a certain gender goes along with pronouns that can be used to address someone. She also discusses that by identifying as a certain gender the sexuality is not aligned. Later, we Anna talks about gender-equality and how the understanding of gender equality is often limited to female-male.

In the 16th Episode of the Menstruation, Sexual and Reproductive Health Course Anna and Vinuri talk about healthy relationships. In order to define what a healthy relationship is, they will also analyze what a toxic relationship is and how it affects the people involved.

In the 15th Episode of the Menstruation, Sexual and Reproductive Health Course Sara and Sarah explain what self-esteem is (“a favorable or unfavorable attitude toward the self.” (Rosenberg cited by Darjan, Negru, & Ilie, 2020, p. 21)) and why it is so important to cultivate a high self-esteem. They also cover peer pressure.

In the 14th Episode of the Menstruation, Sexual and Reproductive Health Course María Angélica explains the emotional and psychological changes that we go through during puberty as well as feeling comfortable with your body and identity; how sexuality isn´t just about sex; what is at stake in “early sex”; brain changes during puberty; and why are you sometimes very mature and sometimes more emotional and impulsive. We will identify signs of stress and what to do about it, like incorporating a healthy lifestyle, how you spend your time, healthy risks, emotion managing, role models, fun and relaxation, and resilience.

In the 13th Episode of the Menstruation, Sexual and Reproductive Health Course Goitseone explains HIV and Aids (the difference, signs and symptoms, ways of transmission, treatment and myths).

In the 12th Episode of the Menstruation, Sexual and Reproductive Health Course Madalena explains gynecological infections and sexually transmitted diseases.

In the 11th Episode of the Menstruation, Sexual and Reproductive Health Course Vinuri talks about fertility, contraception and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).

In the 10th Episode of the Menstruation, Sexual and Reproductive Health Course Goitseone explains what an ectopic pregnancy is and what are its risks and treatment.

In the 9th Episode of the Menstruation, Sexual and Reproductive Health Course Goitseone explains the endocrine system (hormones, hormonal glands and their role in our reproductive system).

In the 8th Episode of the Menstruation, Sexual and Reproductive Health Course Laura and Shomy explain the reproductive organs and the role they play in our reproductive system.

In the 6th Episode of the Menstruation, Sexual and Reproductive Health Course Sara talks about how to take care of yourself during your menstrual phase.

The 5th Episode of the Menstruation, Sexual and Reproductive Health Course! In this episode, Sara explains 4 phases of the menstrual cycle (follicular, ovulatory, luteal and menstrual) and how to get the best out of each one.
