Heather's father was a risk-taker and her mother was an auditor, creating a yin and yang dynamic in their household. Heather's interest in art began with drawing and painting, and she later received her BFA in illustration. After college, Heather worked as a graphic designer and eventually decided to open her own art school. Heather's art school, Orange Anchor, offers classes in various mediums including painting, drawing, and sculpture for kids and adults. Additionally, she also wrote and published the Merrow Trilogy, a series of fantasy novels.
