Weight Loss Surgeries - FiT Episode 12
In this episode of Fitness in Theory, we talk about weight loss surgeries and why we would never consider having one. There are simply too many complications and risks involved, not to mention how it drastically changes your lifestyle. We also share the experiences of people we know personally and how it almost killed a family member due to severe complications. We'd rather focus on losing weight and getting healthier while feeling a sense of pride and accomplishment that come from hitting those goals.

Weight Loss Tools - FiT Episode 11
Weight Loss Tools - FiT Episode 11
In this episode of the podcast, we talk about the weight loss tools, apps, and equipment we use often that have helped us lose more than 80 pounds over the years. Unfortunately, we didn't get to everything we enjoy. But that's mostly because we ran out of time talking about a variety of random things...like always. Though, the stranger doughnut segment was pretty funny.

Being Realistic with Yourself - FiT Episode 10
Being Realistic with Yourself - FiT Episode 10
In this episode, we attempt to talk about setting realistic goals for yourself. Unfortunately, we went off the topic and off the rails more often than normal. Though, we did answer a few questions from the viewers, so, it wasn't all that bad of a show. Still, we might have to do a part two to this one and dive a bit deeper. In any case, the idea was to set realistic goals for your specific needs, not what others think you should be doing. We are all unique, which means we all have specific needs and wants to address. It doesn't matter what your favorite Instagram model tries to push. What matters is how you're progressing in your health and fitness journey.
If you'd like to be part of the show or want to hang out with us, we record each episode of this podcast live on Crossing Colorado's YouTube channel on Tuesdays at 7 pm mountain time.

Health and Fitness Planning Helps - FiT Episode 9
Health and Fitness Planning Helps - FiT Episode 9
In today's episode, we talk about the importance of planning and how it can help you reach your health and fitness goals. Not everyone can approach fitness without a clear path to follow. Some of us can greatly benefit from a structured and planned out routine. This includes everything from eating to the types of exercises you want to do at the gym.
Proper planning can help you stay on course in terms of eating certain meals, using weight training for specific parts of your body, and helping alleviate the "deer in the headlights" look when standing around looking at the weight machines at Planet Fitness.
We talk about our current goals and what works best for us, as we both have extremely different ways that we approach health and fitness. What works best for you when it comes to planning?

Where to Start Your Fitness Journey - Fit Episode 8
Where to Start Your Fitness Journey - Fit Episode 8
In this episode, we talk about where to begin when you want to lose weight but don't know where to start. Everyone has their own methods, and it can be overwhelming to see so many varying ideas. Today, Sam and I share how we began losing weight and why we chose the specific diets we did. While she is keen on Keto, I would rather stick to my Net 600 Calorie diet plan.
Both of these diets have merit for our individual needs and wants. But at the beginning of losing weight and keeping it off, success comes down to one, inescapable truth: you need to make the decision for lifestyle changes. Otherwise, you'll run the risk of putting all of that weight back on after you hit your goals.

Damages of Obesity - FiT Episode 6
Damages of Obesity - FiT Episode 6
In tonight's episode, we'll talk about the damages that are accumulated from being obese. Not only will we approach this from a scientific perspective, but we'll also share our experiences and how obesity has affected our quality of life. Even after losing 80 pounds, there are still things that affect us to this day.
If you plan on living a sedentary lifestyle, then that is your choice. But as Sam points out in the show, she can't even play in the snow without feeling wiped out relatively easily. There are a lot of things you might not consider that is part of being obese.
That's one thing a lot of people don't put into consideration. Now, It's OK to feel good in your skin regardless of size. But you shouldn't ignore the actual and practical damage that comes from living an obese lifestyle. It goes far beyond just looking good at the beach.
In this podcast, we talk about joint pains, sleep apnea, and several other complications we've lived through as a result of being overweight. It's not all sunshine and rainbows. And when comparing our lives today as opposed to at our biggest, things are far better overall.

Being OK with Not Pushing to End 2022 Strong - FiT Episode 5
Being OK with Not Pushing to End 2022 Strong - FiT Episode 5
In this episode, we talk about how it's OK if you don't want to push to end the year "strong." Not everyone has the mental fortitude to keep themselves moving in an upward trajectory during the holiday season. And if you need some time to breathe and relax before the beginning of 2023, then so be it.
Your mental health is vital to success to any degree. And the more stressed and anxious you are, the harder that success will be to achieve.
Sure, I push myself to end the year as profoundly as I can. But that doesn't mean everyone should. It's not some unspoken rule that you have to grind yourself into dust before the year ends.
Take care of yourself and progress at a rate that feels right for you. There's nothing wrong with wanting to unwind before starting anew on January 1st.

What is Food Neutrality? FiT Episode 4
What is Food Neutrality? FiT Episode 4
In this episode, Sam and I discuss food neutrality and what it means to some people. Although the premise behind food neutrality is something I'll never follow, I can see how it might help others in their health and fitness goals. My primary issue is how some bad actors have co-opted food neutrality to fit their own agendas and toxic body acceptance beliefs. It's hard for me to get behind any ideology for health and fitness promoted by someone who works with Mondelez International, a major corporate entity that deals with an array of sugar-ladened snacks.

Putting in the Effort to Lose Weight - FiT Episode 3
Today, Sam and I talk about how it takes effort to lose weight and keep it off. There is no instant fix, and you need to put in the dedication to reach your fitness goals. This includes making life changes to prevent yourself from gaining all of that weight back. It all comes down to learning how to do better and sticking with something you can see yourself doing over the next 10 years.

Don't Sweat the Holidays When it Comes to Food - FiT Episode 2
Don't Sweat the Holidays When it Comes to Food - FiT Episode 2
In this episode, we talk about giving yourself permission to enjoy the holidays from the perspective of eating. Too many people deny themselves tasty treats because they believe it will ruin their diets or weight loss goals. In reality, it all comes down to making logical choices, proper portion sizes, and keeping yourself active afterward.

Who is Crossing Colorado and Why Should You Care? FiT Episode 1
Who is Crossing Colorado and Why Should You Care? FiT Episode 1
Today, we talk about who we are and our goals for health and fitness. Mostly about why we consider our efforts 'in Theory." It's our goal to not only hit certain milestones for weight loss, but to show others who are over the age of 40 that it's not impossible to turn yourself into a Greek god. Though, in Michael's case, it's more about keeping his heart beating for one more year.
We apologize for the slight echo on Sam's mic. We're still trying to figure out the best settings, and we don't have thousands of dollars to put into a decent rig.
Both of us have lost more than 80 pounds thus far and look forward to hitting our goals. In the future, we'll talk about everything from the types of diets and exercises we've tried to how mental issues can derail fitness efforts.
This show is as much to help us stay motivated for health and fitness as it is for helping anyone else. The more effort we put into the podcast, the more likely we'll stay the course ourselves.
Our shows are filmed live on YouTube, and we always encourage everyone to join us Tuesday nights at 7 pm Mountain time.
