As church members you’ve been given freedom through salvation in Jesus, but with that freedom comes a responsibility. As we mature we understand that responsibility means that we have the freedom to do what is right in God’s eyes.

As a church we are preparing for sovereignty but before we get there, It’s imperative that we have a Biblical understanding of church governance, leadership and the responsibility of various leadership positions.

The goal today is to bring an understanding to Biblical leadership principles as they relate to pastoral ministry and leadership within the church as a whole. Please join us as Pastor Donnie teaches on the qualifications for pastors according to 1 Timothy Chapter 3.

Outreach is one of two primary principles taught to us in Matthew 28:19.

Making disciples also referred to as reaching the lost, the methods of making disciples are nearly endless. Bringing people to know and serve Jesus can be done through acts of service, providing a drink of water, helping someone get out of a broken lifestyle, “helping the least of these,” hospitality, and so on.

This month we are in a sermon series that is focusing on American History… 

We have to come to understand that our laws should not be built off of what feels right, our laws are not based off of popular votes- our laws are given to us by God. 

This is why we hear terms such as “inalienable rights” because these rights that we have as American’s are not given to us by government, they are given to us by God and should be protected by the law.

Many of the rights that we have individually today are protected by the foundation of God’s moral law- the ten commandments.

Last week we kicked off our series titled “finding our way back.” Meaning, as a nation how do we find our way back to the principles that gave us such a strong foundation. What is the recipe for liberty? 

We introduced this monument located in Plymouth Massecuites called “the monument of our forefathers” which represents the principles that our nation was founded on that would always remind us how to get back if we ever lost our way.

Once we know Jesus we can now understand right from wrong and work towards “morality.”

Christian Legalism can be defined as adding manmade rules, traditions and preferences to God’s law and treating them as divine law.

Christian Liberalism can be defined as acknowledging that Christ died for you but believing that He isn’t concerned with what you do .

Although they are different by definition they come with the same error characteristics.

Foundations of faith aren’t just things that build a foundation, but they are things that you can always return to that will help spur your growth. 

We live in a day and age where there are so many wise and even Biblically based voices. But church, no matter what podcasts you listen to, youtube channels, superstar preachers, the point still stands that…  In a world full of billions of voices, we just need to hear one. God’s voice.

True worship is a life that seeks to exalt and glorify God not just with your words but your actions, thoughts, desires and all in all the way that you live your life. True worship is a life that is constantly seeking to live for Jesus, honor Him and ultimately bow one’s life to God. It’s why Paul said in Romans- present your bodies as living sacrifices unto the Lord.

Last week we focused on worship in the context of our individual lives and living for Jesus, so today we are flipping things around and talking about what we do here on Sunday mornings, or at worship nights and common expressions as they relate to us being Pentecostal.

The primary concern is that as we as a culture continually perpetuate the image of Jesus being a passive lamb, We are taught the false premise that to be Godly is to be weak, passive and silent.

Marriage isn’t a human construct, it’s God’s creation. God’s word says His thoughts are higher than ours therefor one must understand that God knows how to create and design things to work perfectly and that is especially true for marriage.

We are heading into a season that is centered around the infamous holiday - Valentines Day. This Valentines Day there will be 9 million marriage proposals. If you were to ask, does this holiday really matter to people? A survey would argue that almost 80% of Americans say that it’s important to celebrate this Holiday.

Our culture has become so used to superficial friendships and relationships, our culture throws the word “Love” around so frequently and without purpose that we have robbed the word “Love” of it’s very meaning.

Yet it is so imperative to your relationships, your friendships, to your families, your spouse, your children, those that you work with and society as a whole, it is so imperative that we understand love so that we can show it, and exemplify it.

Vision leads us to God’s purpose.

As we close out our series on vision, this isn’t going to be a normal sermon, this is more of an update on some of what God has been doing. We will discuss a little more God’s vision for Crossroads Community church

Vision is seeing something before it happens, vision in the context of church and being a Christ follower is seeing the way that God see’s. And God has big vision, He had big vision when He calls a shepherd boy to be a giant slayer and king. God had a big vision when His vision entailed turning a symbol of death (the cross)- turned into a symbol of hope and victory through faith in His son Jesus Christ. Before Jesus the cross represented nothing more than shame and death, now it represents hope, salvation and the penalty paid for my eternity.

As we discussed previously, God is still a God of vision and we believe that He is calling His church to be visionaries.

In our world today we often mark great leaders with the compliment “they are a visionary.” More often than not there is a common understanding as to what exactly that compliment means when it is given to a leader, the common understanding and assumption is that the person was able to see something before others did, they had a mental image and a passion that drove them to see in detail a dream as if it were a reality.

If you’re new with us and you’re trying to figure out what Crossroads Community Church- also known as C3, is all about, this is the perfect series for you. I look at this series as kinda like dating. Dating is all about discovering the other person, this series is a lot about who we are.

If you regularly attend here then this series is a reminder, we are more than programs, we are more than fun activities, we are a hospital for the broken- not a museum for the righteous, and real ministry happen here. This series is a reminder that in the kingdom of God there shouldn’t be any spectators- but we should all be participants.

This series is all about vision, where God is leading us as a church with the understanding that God has a plan, God has a vision and He want’s us to be a part of what He’s doing and God’s vision is so powerful that He says “I will build my church and Hell cannot even stop it.”

Evangelism- an introvert’s kryptonite, but it doesn’t have to be! Too often we pawn this off as to not feeling called. Jesus commanded all of His disciples to go into all the world. The difficult reality is that the mission field can be found right in our own neighborhood or workplace. Listen as we hear some truths about ourselves and how to minister to those around us.

Mentorship is often an overlooked aspect in the church. Are we helping to raise individuals up as we ourselves continue to grow in our walk with the Lord? For every great man, there has often been a man or men that has helped build them up or influenced them in some capacity. Jesus led the disciples and grew them tremendously to be powerful men of God. Are we following His example and doing the same for those around us or the younger generation?

Are you willing to follow His plan for your life? In order to hear from Him, we must seek  Him with all of our heart. Let’s put the societal norms to the side. As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord!

Preparation and having a plan are typically beneficial in most areas of your life. Finances are no exception to this. Our mindset must become one of stewardship- how can we best utilize what God has given us? Cody walks through how everything from budgeting to planning for financial hardship.

The tongue hold far more power than we naturally think. Listen as we learn what it takes to best control it. It’s far more than mind over matter- it’s a heart issue! We must first seek the Lord on the root cause of our anger and choice of words and tone.

Lust and temptation- an issue that every man has faced from adolescence through adulthood. Again, trying to overcome temptation in our own strength will result in failure. The devil is crafty and an expert in causing us to fall and sin. We must be fully surrendered to the Lord in both our lives and our weaknesses!

This is the start of our very first men’s conference here at C3! Before moving on to listening to the everyday topics that impact us as men, we must realize our desperation and reliance on the Lord. Prayer and worship are such a vital part of our walk with the Lord. Our conflicts seen through fleshly eyes here on earth are often time manifestations of spiritual battles being fought in the spiritual realm. It’s crucial that we seek help from the mountain mover rather than focus on the mountain, or try to move the mountain ourselves. 

Pride is something that everyone struggles with in one way, shape, or form. It is not until we recognize who we are without the Lord, what He saved us from, and the everyday role He plays in our lives so that we can then walk in freedom and grow in so many different aspects. 

Marriage is one of the biggest commitments we make in life. How can we best foster the relationship that God has given us? Affixing our eyes on Jesus and prioritizing who and what is most important in any relationship is key to a successful and fruitful unity.

This is a sermon series where we reflect and give thanks for all that God has done and look forward to what God will continue to do here in and through C3.

When we talk about vision, we aren’t talking about what we want to see, our plans, our will, our ways. When we say the word “vision”, what we are specifically referring to is seeing what God sees.

To survive, yes we need food, shelter and water. But, what do we need to thrive in life?

In order to thrive in life, we need a sense of worth, belonging and purpose.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Over the past few weeks we, as a church, have been in this series titled “The Songs of Christmas”. Throughout this series we have made it a point to dive into the history of various Christmas songs and we have made it an even bigger point to talk about their Biblical meaning.

A common theme within Christmas Carols is the theme of “wonder”. This theme of wonder is either referenced specifically or insinuated as Christmas carols proclaim the message of Christ’s arrival. For example…

Joy to the world has that beautiful line - “Wonders of His love.”

The song that we are focusing on today- Joy to the world. Is somewhat similar to the theme of silent night. It’s one of those Christmas songs that has kind of an ironic theme to it.

Joy to the world wasn’t originally intended to become a Christmas song, Consider that As one of the most joyous of all Christmas hymns, this carol omits references to shepherds, angelic choruses, and wise men. That’s because it was originally intended to describe the second coming of Jesus Christ.

The hymn has more to do with Christ’s second coming than His first, though because the two comings of Christ are historically and theologically connected, the sentiments expressed can apply to both events. The one that has already taken place sets the stage for the other that is yet to happen, an event which true believers eagerly await.

Every year these songs are on our lips, they get stuck in our heads. Does anyone realize what we’re singing? The Gospel saturated songs that surround the season?

Hark the Herold angels sing

Hark means listen, Herold means messengers, combine that and the song title could also go like this – “listen to the angelic messengers sing!”

This song has many themes included in it that we could study today. We could study the fact that this song points out the divinity of Jesus beautifully, or how the song proclaims the Gospel message of Jesus coming to save us. Please join us as Pastor Donnie focus’s on two prevalent themes in this song.

Every year we hear Christmas songs in the stores, on our favorite movies and tv series, we often play them over and over during the fulfillment of our holiday traditions, and we sing them in church.

Do we know the meaning behind some of the most famous Christmas songs in our culture? Do we understand the Biblical and theological meaning of the lyrics?

That’s what this sermon series is about. Studying just a few of the most popular Christmas songs and understanding their place in the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

We have to ask ourselves the question when talking about gratitude, if I had a job moment in my life and everything was stripped away, what would I think of God? Would I pin all of my problems on Him or would I look to Him as the solution?

The goal today is to discuss Biblical truths that are deeper than things and materials, truths that are above circumstances. They are the biblical truths that sustain us to such a degree that when we have nothing we still are able to obtain joy, contentment and gratitude.
