Youth Homelessness in Australia: What can be done?
Youth Homelessness Matters Day is held on 18 April and aims to raise awareness and public discussion about youth homelessness so that we can develop sustainable and innovative solutions for not only supporting the needs of homeless youth, but supporting the dreams of homeless youth. Alarmingly, there are 44,000 young people homeless in Australia on any given night. Close to 16,000 of them are under 12 years of age. Of all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people experiencing homelessness, nearly 70% live in severely overcrowded dwellings. In this edition of People & Purpose, Dan Creasey (Head of Pro Bono & Community Impact at KWM) spoke with Mr Bevan Warner who is the Chief Executive Officer of Launch Housing, one of Victoria's largest providers of housing and homeless support services with a 75 year combined history and a clear mission to end homelessness. Prior to his current role, Mr Warner was the Managing Director of Victoria Legal Aid, a position he held for 10 years.
