After 13 or so years, I’ve reached the end. It’s time to step aside and let the next generation continue talking about Disney. It’s been a great ride and I’ve enjoyed it.

I talk about a few of my favorite memories of Walt Disney world.

I’ve got a rather strong opinion about what happened in the state, regarding Disneys special improvement district. In summary: it can’t end well for any of us, and not really thinking this through will cause Disney world to change in unexpected ways. I talk about the history and how we got here.

I have some thoughts and observations from recent reports coming from the Disney company which I share here.

Back in 1977, Ray Bradbury wrote a preliminary / concept script for what would become spaceship earth. While it wasn’t used as it was, many of the concepts as well as the overall theme are still evident today.

We had the luxury of hearing from admiral Fowler; he did an interview as part of some B-roll footage before the magic kingdom opened, and later in a forum he talked about the parks.

While researching details about General Joe, I found some interesting information. This is a text-to-speech of 21 questions in the memoirs of General Potter, where he talks about his work at Disney. I found him to be a rather interesting figure, and I had never seen or heard this interview before.

I’ve got the proverbial axe to grind. I’m troubled by a lot of what I’m seeing. And I have so many questions about what Disney is doing and the future of the theme parks.

The 1960 Winter Olympics were the first ones broadcast nationally in the US. And that meant they needed to be ready for tv. Who better than Walt Disney to put on a great show?

Admiral Fowler joined the Walt Disney company in the early 1950s, and was primarily responsible for the construction of Disneyland, then carried forward his work to be the overall project manager for Disney world. General Potter joined the Disney company after the NY Worlds Fair, and was the construction manager for Disney world. He wound up creating many of the innovations that came to be in the central Florida area. Both became friends with Walt, and without them, Disney world probably would never have been built.

I’ve been keeping an eye on the galactic star cruiser as it nears its maiden voyage. I have some thoughts about it and Star Wars in general.

We had D23, along with some announcements, a change to the vaccine policy for cast members, and a pause in the sale of annual passes at WDW. I have some assorted thoughts about all of it, and how the parks have evolved.

On todays show, I start by talking about the recent earnings call. And then I go on to talk about the crossroads, which recently closed.

On this episode, I explore some of what Walt had in mind for his community. I propose that it would have been a company town, and explore that and wonder if he could have gotten there. This expands on the story I told in episode #410, where I examined Walt’s world view.

I talk about things that are going on, the genie app, lighting lane, and the confusion that surrounds it all.

Today, I share some insights about Aulani, courtesy of a friend of mine. I admit I didn’t know much about it before, but I feel like I’m ready to make a trip! Hawaiian culture and beaches sound very relaxing.
