Money and Divorce - Karyn Lander
This episode Karyn Lander shares her perspective about relationship and business break ups. She is a leader in her industry and known as a passionate forensic accountant, who is truly in her clients’ corner. She stresses the importance of knowing your financial structure, including any entities that have been set up via the family or business unit. Her role gives her access to people, typically women, who have been knee deep in the operations of a household or business, who are then forced to confront and uncover their financial set up when a divorce happens. For example, it can be upsetting to see the financial proof of when an affair has started, seeing the purchase of things like Tiffany Jewellery. We discuss the taboo topics that professional women delicately navigate such as the importance of financial independence, divorce and domestic violence. As a mother, she shares some of the conversations she has had with her children to help them when they reach adulthood. Karyn is an associate director at BDO and has been in the accounting profession for almost 30 years.

“There is a great benefit in volunteering. It is a very uplifting experience, and you realise how important it is. The Asian Australian Woman
This episode we have Jean Sum who discusses her experience as an Asian Australian woman. Jean has an acute understanding of the money conflict that occurs within certain Asian communities. She feels this is from the history of 'lack' and the journey forward is creating abundance in a meaningful way. Is money the only marker of success or is it possible to find a wealthy life by following your purpose and living your values each day. She discusses how the public response to Asian-Hate crimes such as the Atlanta shooting in America that left 6 Asian women dead, communicates broadly how Asians are undervalued within their communities. Jean is the founder of Sum of Jean, which is a life coaching business and is also a mentor for Asian Australians. She is a prominent voice on diversity and inclusion around the Asian-Australian Woman’s Experience.
“How do we approach this history of ‘lack’ and how to create a life of abundance. Abundance in terms of the financial, health, energy, the people you surround yourself with. And how do I share that with the community and the people around me”
On the Atlanta Spa Shootings that resulted in the death of 6 Asian American Women: "And what was quite painful as well, that same week was March for Justice and International Women’s Day the week prior. The topic around the spa shooting, really did not generate much media attention. It lasted 24 hours. Myself and a lot of Asian women around the world, felt this to our core”
The way we view money is often from a position of ‘lack’: I don’t have enough money to do the things I want to. From a lot of the struggles that previous generations have gone through. That can carry through to us. How do we look at that: Is this my relationship with money or is it passed through from previous generations?

Christa provides tips for young leaders on how to be fearless and how to negotiate your pay to reflect what you are worth.
"I discussed with her (Christa’s sister) beforehand if we could talk about this. She said is ok with it because there have been so many more instances at work which did not go as far, and I have experienced it myself too, but because you try to downplay it and shrug it off. Hindsight we should have reported it to people. Brought it out in the open
I do want to encourage, that if it happens to you at the workplace and it is inappropriate speak to somebody. Even if you feel you can’t speak to H.R. Speak to somebody else, even to other female colleagues. Most big corporations have channels where you can flag it. Use those channels, because if we don’t speak up, it will continue happening. It won’t stop." Christa

“There needs to be a lot more looking out for each other under the rainbow. I can’t just be looking out for gay men only. I need to be looking out for everyone beneath that rainbow. At times there is an emphasis on the mainstream, you know, the white gay man. A lot of companies will use the image of two white gay men (on their campaigns). There would not be a trans man, or a trans woman or a queer person of colour. There needs to be more representation to start the conversation, to start that mindset”. - Nathan

"I feel very empowered by that, that I am young, and I am female… And whenever I walk into one of those massive events and the majority of the room are men, middle-aged older men, I feel, “Well, I am a little bit different”. I bring a different set of skills to this table, and they are amazing. And I am really sorry that you are not young and female. My power is that I am young and female, and it feels great. When I walk into these rooms, I feel good, I feel powerful." - Jade Mckay

Advocates and Allies - Tim Henry
We can’t discuss International Woman’s Day without talking about the role men play in helping lift women in their community. Today I speak to Tim Henry who is the owner of Aspire planning and the host of the popular podcast the Grass is Greener. I outed Tim as a male advocate in our community. Tim has done over 25 episodes of his podcast and at least 15 female guests. He said this was not on purpose. He chooses guests who would be of value to his audience. Guests who have a fresh view of things within their industry. His observation is a number of these people are women. He reflects on his journey, his gratitude mindset and his message to men in what their role is in stamping out unsafe cultures for women.
