RPG & Jack and Jill w/Jenna Flying Solo
HI EVERYBODY! No, Depp Impact has not fallen into the abyss, never to return! It's here, baybeeee and shorter than ever! As the season gets busy and the project wraps up, Jenna just didn't have time to find guests, nor would she subject anybody to the 8 minute, Charlie Sheen, "masterpiece" RPG. So she did it herself! In this episode, we live react to the 1986 short "RPG" and then Jenna realizes half way through that she can also record a quick snippet on Jack and Jill. Brief updates abound in this exceedingly brief episode! Short films and cameos! Wow!

Arizona Dream w/Cameron Kelsall
Ever see advertising for a movie and then watch the movie and the movie is NOTHING LIKE WHAT YOU THOUGHT IT WAS. If you haven't had this phenomenon happen, do yourself a favor and press play on Arizona Dream. Today Jenna is joined by the professor of obscure Depp-filmography, Cameron Kelsall (@ckelsall) to talk about 1992's Arizona Dream. Somewhere between 21 Jump Street and a fever dream, this movie was made. Questionable pretty people doing weird shit with accordions and flying fish. Seriously, this movie is a TRIP.

Depp's Music Videos w/my idle little fingers
Jenna is joined by deep friends and TREMENDOUS musicians Nico and Eve of my idle little fingers (@myidlelittlefingers) to talk about some of Depp's most important filmographic achievements: his music video output.
Music videos on display: Tom Petty: Into the Great Wide Open (1991), Lemonheads: It's a Shame About Ray (1992), Shane McGowan and the Popes: That Womans Got Me Drinking (1994), Paul McCartney: My Valentine (2012), Marilyn Manson: Say10 (2017), and yes, of course... Dior: Sauvage, both the dumb commercials and the FULL LENGTH MOVIE THAT IS A PERFUME AD.

Waiting for the Barbarians w/Adam Howard
Jenna is back from a brief (three month!?) hiatus with one of Depp's more recent outputs! It's nothing personal, listeners, I just needed a break. But this is a movie that is not necessarily worth your time! Jenna is joined by the wonderful, the talented, the last guest on the pod Adam Howard (@adamdouglashoward) to talk about the jumble of metaphors that is Waiting for the Barbarians. This movie came out in 2020 after being shelved since 2019 and maybe it should have remained shelved! I'm being unfair about this boring, beautiful, film with good performances. Adam gave it 2 and 1/2 stars.

I not stinker this deep in Depp's filmography! How did this happen!? It slipped through the cracks. They chat wanting to be cast in The Flick, the perfection that is Salma Hayek, and Spy Kids 3D. Jenna is joined by podcast maven and managing editor of MovieJawn, among all sorts of Herculean tasks, Ryan Silberstein (@silberwhatever) to talk about the 2 hour and 45 minute ride that is The Lone Ranger. Yes, the Lone Ranger. Disney's biggest cinematic flop of all time. Johnny's attempt to "right the wrongs of Native American portrayals in movies" because that is his cross to bear. Rosalie can now cross this movie off her "Crispin Glover Movies To Watch" List, because believe it or not, he is indeed in this movie. Terry fell asleep during the movie at one point and Jenna can't remember what happened when he fell asleep, but Bilbo Baggins AND Hagrid are in this movie, so you know it was filmed in London.

Dead Men Tell No Tales! They discuss the lore of Jack Sparrow and his compass, Barbossa's hero arch, and the wet blankets that are Carina Smythe and Henry Turner. Steven has a tough time defending his thesis statement and they explore how this movie is an allegory for Depp's own troubles.

The Ninth Gate w/Tai Verley
Jenna is joined by actor, creative, steering committee member of Black Theatre Alliance of Philadelphia, and badass artistic director of Revolution Shakespeare, Tai Verley (@lapetiteroi). Jenna and Tai talk Roman Polanski's very strange, hyper hilarious, film The Ninth Gate. Tai saw this movie when she was 16, which is too young to see this movie. Both Tai and Jenna only remembered the "lady in the wheelchair", but they discuss separating art from artist, Depp's smoking habit, and how unintentionally(?) hilarious this film is.
Moral of the story: Rich people are dorks.

21 Jump Street w/Camille Young
Jenna is joined by singer, actor, and superstar Camille Young (@cahppymeal) to go back to where it all started.... down on (21) Jump Street! Camille watched most of the 80's classic 21 Jump Street. Jenna was a slacker and only got through the middle of season 2, so Camille caught her up. Camille's mom asserts this is "Johnny Depp at his best." Camille and Jenna kind of agree? They determine 21 Jump Street is Degrassi meets Law and Order, the movie is just not their style, and they just don't make gritty teeny bopper cop shows like they used to.

But also kind of the same? They discuss 2004 movie twists, Johnny Depp's luscious hair, and comfy robes. They also discuss how meh this movie is, David Koepp's uneven filmography, and Bryant's a big fan of the insurance lady who appears in one scene.

They discuss the intersection between science and the supernatural, Terrill's love of Christina Ricci, and the women of Sleepy Hollow. They explore how this feels like a PG-13 film, Miranda Witcherson, and the intersection between Jason Vorheese and the Headless Horseman. Jenna is joined by the supremely talented, Broadway bound, Pocket Universe Artistic Director, Alyssa May Gold (@heylyssamay)!! Jenna and Alyssa talk about how much they love Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl and how Jack Sparrow inspired them to chase roles that aren't damsels in distress. Alyssa tracks Elizabeth Swann's hair over the course of the film, they celebrate how good Jack Sparrow's wordless introduction is, and they root for a world where Zoe Saldana gets her own Pirate movie. They rise above technical difficulties and Jenna gives Alyssa a fool's mission....to summarize a 2 hour and 45 minute EPIC in 10 minutes.

They investigate Terry Gilliam's obsession with perfect femininity, the beauty of this film's art direction, and how Tom Waits is actually probably the Devil. In a good way! While not considered a "Johnny Depp film", we talk Johnny's 10 minute contribution to this film and the gift of life Depp (as well as Jude Law and Colin Farrell) gave to this film, in spite of the tragic death of its star.

They discuss the brilliance of Benicio del Toro, why Jenna loves Las Vegas, clowns in cinema, and the death of the American dream. Hank had never seen the movie before and watch it TWICE to get in the DVD commentary. Jenna had that Ralph Steadman poster everybody had in college (you know the one) on her wall for years.

Jenna dishes on how it's actually kinda nice to see a diabetic in a film just living their life and James discovers just how much plot is in this seemingly simple movie. They talk about how early 2000 films were filled with sssseeeeexxxxx, about how you should wear a damn mask and how Juliette Binoche is Juliette Binoche.

Because of this film, this is now a Cate Blanchett podcast.

Jenna is joined by the talented singer, actor, and Elm Street scholar Carlos Castillo (Instagram: @cemanuelcastillo)! They deep dive into the iconic Nightmare and (almost) all of the sequels, since Jenna has only seen the first two. A celebration of crop tops, Heather Langenkamp, and a bed full of blood. Johnny Depp's first film role. It's wild to see "Introducing... Johnny Depp" in the credits. There is a hiccup at the 52 minute mark, so apologizes in advance. I'm new in town.

Cry Baby w/Meg Williams
Jenna is joined by Meg Williams to talk about Cry Baby! Meg gives credit where credit is due and agrees this movie was responsible for all sorts of naughty thoughts at the AMC Marlton 8. They celebrate Mink Stole, Jenna discusses the true murder that inspired the film, and they swoon over Johnny Depp's single tear and Traci Lords in all of her beautiful glory.
In this time of civil revolution, I would be remiss to mention that this podcast does not stand for those who hate others. The world is changing and organizations working towards good need your time and/or money. Black lives matter.

Edward Scissorhands w/Donovan Lockett
Jenna is joined by Donovan Lockett (www.donovanlockett.com) to talk to Edward Scissorhands! Jenna keeps saying Edward Scissorhands was made in 1999. It was not. It was made 1990.
10 minutes in, Jenna has an audio malfunction while Donovan is doing a plot description, but then Jenna fixes it and we're off. Jenna and Donovan celebrate Joyce, the neighbor, and the Frankenstein/Pinocchio allegories in a movie about a very pale man doing very pale things in a very white town.
In this time of civil revolution, I would be remiss to mention that this podcast does not stand for those who hate others. The world is changing and organizations working towards equality and systematic reform need your time and/or money. Black lives matter.
Organizations mentioned in this episode:

Sweeney Todd w/Alex Bechtel
Jenna is joined by Philadelphia actor, musician, Sondeheim fan, and friend (of the show) Alex Bechtel! (www.alexbechtel.com)
Alex and Jenna talk about how great Alan Rickman is and how much Sweeney Todd (the musical) ignited their love of the macabre and alternative musical theatre. They explore why everybody in this movie is whispering and have big pronunciation questions that make them apologize to their acting teachers. Jenna can't stop talking about the Pretty Women sequence because it's the best.

What's Eating Gilbert Grape? w/Katherine Perry
Jenna is joined by Katherine Perry (www.katherineperry.net), Philadelphia personality and friend, to talk about What's Eating Gilbert Grape?. They discuss Gilbert's changing hair color, the beauty and tragedy of Momma, and Juliette Lewis' bucket hat.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest and At World's End w/Dan Scully
Jenna is joined by the only other person she's spent a significant amount of time with in Quarantine, Dan Scully of Cinema76.com and the I Like to Movie Movie Podcast! One of their Quarantine projects was to watch all of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, which sounded like a chore at first, but was actual way more delightful than either of them anticipated! They discuss Dead Man's Chest and At World's End while drinking hard seltzers and beer.
New format! Jenna will be having guests on to talk about a Johnny Depp movie instead of talking to herself, unless she absolutely has to talk to herself because nobody remembers having watched The Astronaut's Wife!

Jenna talks about Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, and gives a very bad synopsis. Shares small snippets of dialogue from the POTC fan fic, "Steamy Sexy Caribbean Summer" written by "Me", whoever me is, because it isn't Jenna. A mini-solo episode. A test of sorts.
