Episode #88 Jennifer Willcock and "Into The Forest"

Episode #88 Jennifer Willcock and "Into The Forest"

About The Author: Jennifer Willcock grew up telling herself stories in the middle of the night to keep away the monsters that lurked in the dark. Once she realized there weren’t any real monsters, she kept telling stories.

A voracious reader, Jennifer reads many different genres, but she never outgrew young adult fiction. A degree in English Literature enabled her to keep her love affair with reading and writing alive.

Jennifer studied ballet through the Royal Academy of Dance during her teen years and into adulthood. She has taught in private and community settings and choreographed productions for her church over the years.

In 2017, Jennifer decided she was brave enough to try and write fiction, and joined NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) in November. She “won” it, writing fifty thousand words in thirty days. The result of that effort was her novel, Exit Stage Right, a dream she thought was impossible to achieve. In 2019, the novel made the short list of the Word Alive Press fiction writing contest.

Besides being a mom to two sons, she is married to Mark, a pastor. She works part-time in the local library, where she’s inspired every day to write a book that will one day be on the shelves. The family’s pet dwarf rabbit, Whiskers, is her muse as he sits at her feet while she writes.

Episode #80 Jennifer Raines and "Grace Under Fire"

Episode #80 Jennifer Raines and "Grace Under Fire"

LISTENER ADVISORY:  REFERENCE TO TEEN SUICIDE

About The Author: Australian Jennifer Raines writes contemporary romances set mainly, but not exclusively, in Australia – think Malta, Finland, New Zealand.  A dreamer and an optimist, her stories are a delicious cocktail of mutual respect, passion and loyalty because she still believes in happy-ever-afters. Jennifer lives in inner-city Sydney, Australia, with the requisite number of partners (1) and animals (2). Her desk overlooks a park which nourishes her soul when she raises her head from her keyboard. She gets some of her best ideas during long yin yoga poses or walking – anywhere. While Jennifer adores historical romance, she chose to write contemporary because she thought (wrongly) it needed less research while she was holding down a full-time job.

Title: Grace Under Fire

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Book Synopsis: Artisan cheese-maker GRACE ANDERSON lost her closest friend to suicide, then saw her father swindled out of prime dairy land. Abandonment and mistrust cemented her determination to become the fifth generation on the family farm and to do it alone. A deterioration in her mother’s health starts the clock. Grace has three months to buy her parents out—a decade sooner than planned—or lose the farm.

Neighbour RYAN WILSON is haunted by the belief he failed to prevent his younger brother Danny’s suicide. He’s returned to sell his mother’s farm. In eight years away, he’s built a fortune flipping farm properties and doesn’t do attachment—to land or people.

The bank plays hard ball, forcing Grace to consider Ryan’s offer to buy part of her land. The sizzling attraction simmering between them is an unwelcome complication. She doesn’t want a business partner, he doesn’t want to care, but when someone tries to sabotage her purchase, she finds herself turning to Ryan for more than financial help.

Can Ryan convince her accepting help is not failure? Can Grace escape her legacy of mistrust and teach him how to care again?

Episode #79 Chloe Holiday and "Submerged Hopes"

LISTENER ADVISORY: MATURE LANGUAGE & SITUATIONS

About The Author: Chloe Holiday is a physician who is evolving as a novelist.  She writes the things she loves to read: steamy, fun stories about ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances, smart women and men who aren’t jerks. She likes to read about friendships, either close women or a good bromance. She wants all the feels: the thrill of a smoldering gaze or the barest brush of fingertips, the shocked gasp at the underhanded villain, the angst of heartbreak, the joy of reunion, and of course, happily ever after!

She enjoys a sneak peek into intriguing groups, whether that be military personnel, medicine, or another culture like Greece. It’s fun to live vicariously and go sailing, diving, or rock climbing. A bit of danger always gets her going, so many of her Romances have a thriller subplot. She also writes thrillers with a slow-burn romantic subplot.
She loves humor and is partial to witty banter and embarrassing situations! Love is funny sometimes!

She hates to read the same old thing, with only the names and places changed, so her goal is to bring you a fresh, fun, NEW story every time, with NO CLIFFHANGERS!

More than anything, she wants a rollicking, great story that she can’t put down, one where love prevails in the end, one that will whisk her away from her own tribulations.

Special Episode: Conversation Frenzy... NaNoWriMo2022

Special Episode: Conversation Frenzy... NaNoWriMo2022

This is a special presentation episode of the Indie Reads Aloud Podcast.

We’re talking about NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) that comes around every November.  The concept is easy to understand; Writers are challenged to write the first draft of a novel – 50,000 words – in just 30 days.  Traditional writers begin a new project, a novel, usually.  Rebel writers can work on whatever type of project they like… non-fiction, poetry, memoir, or they can add words to a project already in progress.  But the main goal remains the same… 50,000 words.

In this episode, we talk with veteran and new NaNoWriMos, get their perspectives on the program, tips, tricks, and how to keep the momentum going throughout the month and WIN!  Some writers may feel overwhelmed by such a challenge, but after listening in on our conversation, I think everyone will discover just how fun and possible it really is to write a first draft of a book in a month!

The authors who joined us in this episode are
Marianne Wieland, SW Raine, RL Fink, Michael Beardslee, Shani Smith, Kristian Bullen, and Jacob Bullen

If you’d like to learn more about NaNoWriMo, visit their WEBSITE and make a profile.  It’s fun, easy, and free.  Then, get ready to write in November!

You can connect with the Detroit Region, stay up to date on our gentle competition for word count success, join in discussions, and get the calendar of events for all the in-person and online events.  You can make them your home region to participate in our Discord server, and join in on fun word sprints, crazy conversations, pep talks, and creative craft discussions.

Feel free to add me as a Buddy.  My handle is DKWP614.  I’d love to give and gain support in our daily word count goals, and share progress of our milestones along the way.  You can reach out to me directly at Diana@DKPWriter.com if you have any questions, or would like to hear more about the program.

Happy Writing!

Her desk overlooks a park which nourishes her soul when she raises her head from her keyboard. She gets some of her best ideas during long yin yoga poses or walking – anywhere. Her goal as mother and an author is to share the magic of books with children so they can join in her obsession of reading. She loves to create fun stories by gathering inspiration from her children. She lives with her husband and two boys (Finnegan and Lochlan) in Ogden, Utah.   When she's not working on her children’s books she likes to hang out with her family and volunteer at her son’s elementary school and with various children’s heart defect charities.  She has written and illustrated five books for young readers.

Sydney tracks Pine to the Menger Hotel in San Antonio where she discovers he’s been murdered in the room next to hers. And as usual, Sydney is a suspect. To make matters worse her car is stolen, and she elicits the help of an Irish cab driver named Taco and a bouncer named Rip. Soon she’s on the trail of Nora Jasper, a harlot jazz singer and Pine’s girlfriend. Corpses start to pile up, a string of illicit deeds surface and Sydney’s home life goes south. But the investigation takes a bizarre turn when Sydney is whacked over the head and thrown into the river. She surfaces with a faulty memory, uncertain of whom she can trust.
