Winners & Losers of the He Doesn't Know What She Believes Cup and International Break

Hey hey, we're back! That's right, after dropping some dope interviews on y'all the OG squad of Courtney & André return to discuss all things international break and looking ahead to the World Cup! We get into the SheBelieves Cup, where we believe in Mal Swanson, Lynn Williams, Naomi Girma and Japan (also maybe Brazil). We then take a trip around the world where we shoutout the World Cup playoff winners, Haiti, Panama and Portugal. We also look at the winners and losers of Lauren James' recent tear, Australia surprising us, and put Denmark on extremely early upset alert. Then we shift gears to discuss all the federations around the world who are failing their national teams. We stress the importance of reporters and headline writers getting the stories right, and support all players in their various fights against their federation. Since all that has us heated, we close with our hypes! We talk about Phallon's smash hit series 'The Puget Zone: Zombie Apoctapus' and get fresh news about a possible sequel 👀. ...SheBelieves while they drink Arnold Palmers (w/ Shea Butter FC)

WE BACK! We're just over a week away from the 2023 SheBelieves Cup so Courtney & André brought in reinforcements to get us through. We welcomed Skye & Sylvs of Shea Butter FC for another crossover! In this Part 2, after hyping up Courtney, we dive right in by discussing Canada head coach Bev Priestman's approach to the tournament, and why we envy it. Then we get into what has us excited about Brazil's squad (hint: EVERYDAMNTHING). Then we take several deep breaths and get into, well, whatever USWNT head coach Vlatko Andonovski is doing with the USWNT. We discuss the lack of a backup defensive midfielder, his odd midfield experiments, players who weren't called up who should be, an over-reliance on certain players, and a bunch of other stuff. Then we go around the Zoom room and ask what match will be the toughest, the most fun, and give our predictions for who will win the tournament. Then we get into a wide ranging Heated & Hyped segment with more than a few #messages for anybody and everybody. Please listen, subscribe, rate and review – we appreciate y'all. Also be sure to check out Part 1 on the Shea Butter FC feed for our thoughts on the NWSL offseason, Black History Month celebrations/non-celebrations, the NWSL schedule being mad late, and more. ============= Follow Shea Butter FC: Instagram - @sheabutterfc Twitter - SheaButterFC Follow Skye: Twitter - @skyfyefutbol Follow Sylvs: Twitter - @SouthernSylvs Follow Us: Twitter - @DiasporaUtdPod ============= Finally by Loxbeats https://soundcloud.com/loxbeats Creative Commons — Attribution 3.0 Unported — CC BY 3. Y'all knew we weren't gonna let a whole NWSL Draft go by without talking about it! Courtney & André's react to a wild draft full of the special kind of NWSL chaos we've come to love. Although, we talk about things getting maybe a little too chaotic with Kansas City shocking Lynn with a trade. We also spotlight all the melanin coming into the league, discuss overall draft winners and losers, shoutout Orlando, plus we also get into the future of the draft. Hello good people, we back and with a special guest! Courtney and André bring back their interviews in a big way by sitting down with Stanford legend and soon-to-be A-League Golden Boot winner, Madison Haley! We talk to Haley about everything from her entryway into soccer, the absurdly LOADED Stanford squads she was on, her thoughts on the draft process and decision to go to Sydney FC, blue things on the beach that you don't want to step on, plus her Stanford teammates 5-a-side and Best XI that'd give the USWNT problems (plural)! WE BACK! (USWNT, NWSL Moves, 2023 Draft, Benoit Blanc, and more)

Courtney & André are back with their first episode of 2023 (fake ass year)! We have a lot to catch up on, and look forward to, so naturally we start with a dad joke. After that, we get into the USWNT roster announcement, why we're confused but not really, plus we're still waiting for that #FOTP Mia Fishel call up. Then we switch gears to discuss all things NWSL. We get into the big trade that gave Angel City the #1 overall pick in the upcoming draft, plus we hear how hype Courtney is to have Yazmeen Ryan at Gotham. We also talk about Debinha to Kansas City and why it's a scary proposition for the rest of the league, but a big win for the NWSL in the global market. We also discuss the draft, including why we're so hyped to see Alyssa Thompson and Michelle Cooper in the league. We then shift to the NWSL's Corrective Action, in which a number of coaches were banned permanently or with conditions, and monetary sanctions were doled out across clubs and even the league itself. We discuss what it all means, and what's next. Then, in Heated & Hyped, Courtney unveils her Benoit Blanc impersonation. ============= Follow Us: Twitter - @DiasporaUtdPod Instagram - diasporautdpod ============= Music credit: Finally by Loxbeats https://soundcloud.com/loxbeats Creative Commons — Attribution 3.0 Unported — CC BY 3. Trip Around Europe + Mark Parsons (back) to the Spirits

Courtney & André return to your ear holes with another episode! We've been NWSL and USWNT-heavy in recent weeks so in this episode we start with a trot around Europe. We catch you up on each top European league, identify players who are ballin outta control, and pick out some upcoming games to watch. Then we look ahead to this week's UWCL matchups, including how each group stands, plus the real possibility that Lyon and/or PSG could miss the knockout rounds. After that we head back Stateside to chat about the Washington Spirit hiring Mark Parsons, and discuss our concerns about the hiring process. Then, in Heated & Hyped, André hates what they've done to the men's World Cup and the whataboutism surrounding critiques of the tournament and Courtney provides an important lesson on "unbias coverage." But they end on a high note, as André is hyped about the College Cup and Courtney is living in a winter wonderland where Mariah Carey is queen. Did you miss us? WELL WE MISSED Y'ALL! So Courtney & André are back with an xtra lorj episode cause everything happens so much. We start off with our Sick & Shut-In list to keep players in our hearts and minds while sending ancestral healing vibes. Then we get into NWSL Free Agency! Gotham already made a move so we get Courtney's thoughts on Kelley O'Hara joining the club, and André discusses what the loss means for the Spirit. Then we both pitch free agent Debinha on coming to our respective clubs before meeting in the middle and daydreaming about her on Chelsea. After, we review the USWNT's two matches versus Germany. We discuss the loss, good and bad, including hesitancy in the final third, midfield problem, and is there really a mentality problem or does it just look different? Then we dissect the win to see what was different, what was the same, and whether injuries are the only thing holding back or if rocky results are the fault of lessons not learned. Then we get into the 2022 NWSL Championship in Washington, DC. We talk about all the things that made the occasion feel like a championship should, on the ground and on tv. We also get into some analysis about the game, and André has good news for both Portland and Kansas City. Also, Courtney is big mad at delivery times in DC. After that we get into the USWNT roster drop for upcoming friendlies against Germany, including wondering why we have 900 left backs and only one right back. We also detail what we want to see from the squad in these friendlies (hint: not the same ol' same ol'). Then we review the semifinals, including OL Reign's finishing issues popping up again and AD Franch doing AD Franch things. Then we talk all things Crystal Dunn. We appreciate your grace and patience. The past few weeks have been a lot and we have needed the time to process and heal. Thank you. In this episode Courtney & André talk about the Yates report. We discuss the issues that created this environment, and the difference between burning it all down and building a new foundation. We also discuss the overlooked racism portion of toxic environments and not listening to Black women. Then we take a break before discussing the Vlatko's no good very bad European trip and explain why the USWNT struggled against England and Spain. Playoff chaos & San Diego's response

Courtney & André are back on the mics for another episode! In this one we bring back two segments off top, lifting up those on the sick & shut-in list before moving on to celebrate a wide range of Black women in football ballin out on and even off the pitch (even some off land)! Then we move on to look at the NWSL table and chat about last weekend's results, when the double birds are warranted and when maybe they aren't, plus we ask why the NWSL is fumbling the bag by choosing now of all times to have staggered kickoffs. André asks Courtney if she thinks Gotham FC can get the result that blows the race for the shield wide open, and there is hope! We move on to discuss San Diego's response and statement to the report of abusive and racist fan behavior reported on Twitter. We dissect the statement and ask who gets to define racism and racist language. In Heated & Hyped Courtney is hyped for the recently announced Tigres vs. Bayern Munich match IN MONTERREY, and André is once again laughing at Gareth Taylor. I'll try hope later (w/ Shea Butter FC, pt.1)

Courtney & André are back but this time we brought reinforcements! Thass right, it's another crossover episode!  We sat down with the good folks Skye and Sylvs of Shea Butter FC for a wide ranging convo in part one of our crossover. In this chat we look at the NWSL table and André decides to push his 'let's have a real as title race' agenda, so we break down a world in which it exists and how we could make it possible. Then, like the pleasant hosts we are, we press Skye and Sylvs on their predictions for who's gonna make the NWSL playoffs, who's gonna win the shield, and who's gonna win the championship. Then we switch gears to introduce a new segment called Goin In, where we focus on a topic and dive into it. We all give our say on the upcoming release of the USSF investigation conducted by Sally Yates, and the E:60 doc that's now set to drop October 4 at 7pm ET. We discuss how it might impact the players, what we expect, what needs to happen, and why we're already skeptical. After all that we drop into Heated & Hyped where Courtney hates fall but André is hyped about it. Please listen, subscribe, rate and review – we appreciate y'all. Courtney feels sad for Gotham, who caught another L despite playing well. Then they ask if the WSL is the Blackest it's ever been??? This Episode is King Tut Approved

Courtney & André are back on the mics to discuss King Tut's angelic voice, NWSL results, Kris Ward's interview and the players' statement, and USWNT talk ahead of their two friendlies against Nigeria. After reliving the mummy voice sound and laughing hysterically (we know, we got got, still better our way though) we discuss Mal Pugh goin off, A-L-O-Z-I-E, Gotham's ghost coal that became a corner and Kim Björkegren continuing to make bad decisions. We also predict a shield winner, the last team in the playoffs, golden boot recipient and MVP. Then we finish with an extended Heated & Hyped since the aftermath of Kris Ward's dismissal has us heated from multiple angles, and the USWNT coming to DC for the first time has André hyped. She's one of one. She's number one. She's the only Dunn.

Another USWNT roster dropped so you know what that means, so did plenty the racismo. We tired y'all. But before Courtney & André deal with that they chat about recent highlights of the international tournaments that wrapped up, why we so desperately need a Club World Cup and how it might work, discuss NWSL transfers and wonder what's going on in NCC, plus they touch on the weirdness and deep concern about the nature of Kris Ward's dismissal from the Washington Spirit. Then they dig into the USWNT roster, who's missing and why, plus Vlatko Andonovski's ill-advised quotes regarding Mia Fishel and Liga MX Femenil. We also discuss how, despite what he says, not everyone has the same pathway of good performances securing them an invite. We discuss what that signals to players from a fairness standpoint, but also how it prevents the USWNT from finding its true strongest XI. After that, we had to do it. The Crystal Dunn slander shall not be tolerated. From former players to Twitter trolls, we deal with them all in the name of the Marcel's Mama and the Mother of this pod, Crystal Alyssia Dunn. Aaaaaaaand WE BACK! Courtney has returned from a much deserved and needed vacation and hopped back on the mic with André to discuss everydamnthang! We get into the top NWSL storylines including Ebony Salmon's Revenge Tour and the Wavé doin the wobble. We also get into just what in the hell is going on with the Spirit, Courage and Gotham, including Courtney going long on Gotham's problems and how to fix them. Then we discuss why a club world cup needs to happen, plus the difference between tactics vs styles, and why the NWSL doesn't get credit for being a tactical league. After that we get into the Ballon d'Or shortlist, shoutout the melanin and demand some respect on Trinity Rodman's name! The Atlantic Ocean may currently separate your hosts but through the magic of Beyoncé's internet Courtney & André are BACK! We start by talking about air conditioning before moving on to congratulate Desiree Ellis and South Africa on the WAFCON title and Courtney is real hype about Linda Caicedo sending Colombia to the Copa America Femenina final to face Brazil. Then we sit back as Courtney tells us the infinite joys of seeing EUROS games live, including watching so many France players ball out in-person. Don't worry, we got words for Corinne Diacre too. Love and Solidarity to Barbra Banda

Love and Solidarity to Barbra Banda

HELLO GOOD PEOPLE! Courtney & André are back with a fresh new episode. A lot of soccering's just kicked off so we get into some quick NWSL-related shoutouts before moving to the CONCACAF W Championship. We review each round 1 matchup of group play and get into how very different USWNT vs. Haiti could have looked, our concerns with defensive cohesion (and personnel), which leads us to reflect on the greatness of Crystal Dunn. We also ask how many Yike™ should Mexico feel after losing to Jamaica, and we discuss the key lesson we hope Bev Priestman learned in Canada's 6-0 win over Trinidad & Tobago. Then we move on to stand in solidarity with Barbra Banda, Caster Semenya and all other athletes being targeted by the faux concern that's led to the policing of bodies in women's sports. We discuss the violation of CAF forcing every player to undergo "gender verification", plus how this all connects to archaic and patriarchal belief in a gender binary, misogyny, racism and transphobia. We stand in complete solidarity with Barbra, Caster and every athlete targeted. 11 Questions For a WoSo Summer

11 Questions For a WoSo Summer

HI. HELLO. WE'RE BACK. Courtney & André return with a brand new episode to get you set for this summer of international woso! We decided to chop it up in a series of 11(ish) questions to discuss, ponder, laugh, rant, and (sometimes) answer. We ask questions like 'Has Vlatko learned from the Olympics?', 'How many USWNT goals will be disallowed for offside?', 'Which NWSL team will fare best during July?', and 'Why does white soccer media keep getting it wrong?' — and many, many more topics! Vlatko Andiacre

Vlatko Andiacre

We're down immeasurably bad y'all. Courtney & André start the pod with some sad and y'all know why. We trudge on and read a review that made us smile before getting into a rundown of the summer of international tournaments upon us. We take a slight detour to discuss dark horses and favorites in the EUROS and CONCACAF W Championship. Then we focus on the USWNT roster drop and ask several questions such as, 'Were lessons learned?', 'Fam, what?', 'Huh?', and 'Vlatko wyd???' We dissect decisions made as well as decisions that weren't even attempted to be made and find it all very curious, and deeply worrisome. We also get into the weirdness of the decision that a healthy Christen Press would not have made it, and question why a player was promised a spot when everyone else is expected to compete. After we get into Heated & Hyped where Courtney is giddy about Serena Williams' return and André recounts losing his mind when Chelsea FCW announced Kadeisha Buchanan. Then we get into heated where Courtney is heated about all the things NWSL players have had to suffer, while André suggests you listen to the latest episode of Shea Butter FC for more thoughts on what really happened with Christen Press, Vlatko Andonovski and USSF. Please listen, subscribe, rate and review – we appreciate y'all. ============= Links: Get In Loser We're Going to Monterrey (w/ Sandra Herrera & Ana De Souza) - Diaspora United Christen Press would've been left off USWNT roster healthy. We're Down Bad

WE BACK! Sorry we left you, but uh, life be lifin. Courtney & André discuss how life life'd em both since the last time they hopped on the mics. Then they get into shoutouts and spread some ancestral healing vibes to ballers we want to see back on the pitch ASAPtually. After that they turn to the NWSL and drop three interesting points/trends/observations/whatever about the regular season so far. Courtney has a Trinity Rodman #HOTTAKE and André has warmed up to the proliferation of back 3 formations in the NWSL. Then they discuss the USWNT's 59-player provisional roster that dropped ahead of the international break. We take a look at the changes that may have allowed for a different process, discuss just what the hell the team is gonna do about a 6, and slip into dreamland when André asks Courtney if a 3-4-2-1 would work. To wrap up we have more words for this stupid, violent, white supremacist country in the wake of yet more mass shootings and politicians' stupidity in the aftermath. AYYYYY WE BACK! Courtney & André hop on the mics once again cause woso been wild y'all. We start off with a quick chat about naps then drop some shoutouts around the world of woso, including birth(day) shoutouts! Then we get into it y'all. Lyon did the damn thing and beat Barcelona in the Champions League Final. We review how they did it, why Barcelona was shooketh and why it looked familiar. Plus Selma Bacha SUPREMACY, Wendie Renard SUPREMACY, and of course, CAT MACARIO SUPREMACY! We also discuss whether Barcelona should have started Oshoala and dissect how her skill set could have helped against Lyon's pressing. After that, we get into the giving mood. We decide to drop off three gifts each to the NWSL. Spoiler: LET JMAC AND EBONY SALMON PLAY TOGETHER. Given the heaviness of {waves at everything in every direction} we end the episode discussing the sadness and helplessness that's hard to escape when evil is so prevalent. We also hope you have and can lean on community to get through it, and if you don't, please know that at the very least you've got us. HAPPY EQUAL PAY DAY (+ UWCL Final Preview)

Courtney & André hop on the mics to give some quick shoutouts across the world of woso before getting into the end of the USWNT's yearslong quest for equal pay! It took too long, cost too much, was avoided for reasons that were too stupid. We break down the agreement and discuss holding space to celebrate, but also understanding how equality works and not praising mechanisms of suppression for agreeing not to suppress. Then we get into the BIGGEST. MATCH. OF. THE. YEAR! The UWCL Final is this Saturday, May 21, at 1pm ET on DAZN (YouTube). We break down Barcelona vs. Lyon and Courtney tries to convince André to stop being shook (attempts were unsuccessful). We predict key players, who may step up, which battles will be most important, and give our predictions. After, we get into Heated & Hyped where André is literally hot and they're both hype about seeing Jasmyne Spencer and Christen Press do #WERK live! The Sippy Cup Final Was an Avoidable Mess

AY! WE BACK! Courtney & André hopped on the mics once again and had a LOT to cover. We start with a very kind review (please leave yours bestie thaaaaank yooou) before moving on to some quick shoutouts before getting to the real real. We start by wrapping up the UWCL semifinal round in which Wolfsburg beat Barcelona but the Spanish juggernauts moved to the final with a 5-2 aggregate win. Then we talk about the two-legged banger that was Lyon vs. PSG, which Lyon won 5-3 on aggregate. We give our predictions for the UWCL Final (Barcelona v. Lyon, in Turin, Italy, Saturday, May 21, @ 1pm ET), then talk about the slight possibility for the end of the D1 Arkema season to get funky. After, we turn our attention stateside to get into the NWSL Sippy Cup, starting with the first half of the Challenge Cup Final (which was good), then discuss the second half (which wasn't). We explain how the match devolved into an avoidable mess of the NWSL's own making and break down the issues that led to a deeply uncomfortable second half (get well soon Kerolin and Jordan Baggett). We also review the Sippy Cup Awards, including Debinha winning MVP and who we think should've made the All Tournament Team. Finally, André takes you through the absolute banger matchups in NWSL Week 3/2.5/2.38(?) including a Friday the 13th Cascadia Rivalry, Gotham versus North Carolina (don't miss Courtney & André's discussion about NJ/NY), and Christen Press coming to Washington! We then roll into Heated & Hyped where Courtney drags ESPN FC's Twitter account and André is in his feelings about Kevin Durant joining Gotham as a minority owner. Courtney & André return with an episode that has a little bit of errythang. We start off discussing the breaking news that Houston Dash head coach James Clarkson has been suspended due to an ongoing investigation under the new policy to prevent and eliminate workplace discrimination, per the new CBA. Then we wish a happy retirement to a MF'N LEGEND! Anita Asante announced her retirement so we drop some career highlights in case you didn't know she was a baller. We are also hype for whatever's next for Asante and promise we will be right there supporting (pls come on the pod)! And make sure you've watched her super dope retirement video! We then chat about UWCL semifinal first leg action and get you set for both second legs this Saturday. After, we look ahead to the matchday 1 of the NWSL regular season and drop our predictions for each match of opening weekend. During which you'll also hear André already struggling with FOMO over Angel City's home opener plus the good and bad of Orlando's Daytona Soccer Fest announcement. Preaching the Good Word of CRYSTAL DUNN

Preaching the Good Word of CRYSTAL DUNN

Courtney & André return with another episode, and after calming down from yelling about Cat Macario and The Babies, we're back to our regularly scheduled format! We start off with ice cream talk before getting into our thoughts on the U.S. Soccer Federation and USWNT Players agreeing to a settlement, contingent on the ratification of a new CBA. We also discuss those who shall not be named and their problems with "culture". In short: Sad soccer girl GO HOME. Then André tries to reason with Portland-based fans who dragged him on the internet before we move on to our Black History Month Shoutout! Our focus on this BHM Shoutout is the one, the only, the legend, the icon, the magnificent, the even-better-than-you-think, CRYSTAL! DUNN! Courtney dives into a career overview thus far and highlights some of Dunn's most absurd accomplishments. We also wonder how Crystal Dunn's national career would have been different if USSF had crowned her in the same way they've done for some of her (lesser accomplished) teammates. To continue to celebrate the best player the United States has ever had, men's or women's, we ask Y'ALL to send us videos or GIFs of your favorite Crystal Dunn moments! We wanna show her all the love because she deserves it and more! For Heated & Hyped we talk more Dunn, WNBA wackness, the nonexistent NWSL schedule, and EUPHORIA. Plus we also talk about some things we didn't like, and still have questions about. Then we bounce to Europe to discuss the Arnold Clark Cup (#HeBelieves) and Tournoi de France where we review England, Canada, Spain, France, Brazil and Netherlands. After that we recap the fifty-leven international mini-tournaments happening during this break and André wonders if U.S. Soccer might have done the USWNT a disservice by not securing stronger competition. Then we discuss the tournaments we're most looking forward to, and why, before setting the stage for Africa Women's Cup of Nations qualifying and CONCACAF Qualifiers (which can be seen on Paramount+ *wink*) In the final segment we deliver a BLACK HISTORY MONTH SHOUTOUT to friend of the pod, UVA and Olympics LEGEND, Angela Hucles! We promise y'all, however good you think she was, she was better! Listen to some of the records she put up that STILL stand to this day. Then, y'all know, it's Heated and Hyped where Courtney goes off about WSL venues and ticket prices while André is fed up with powerful people in women's soccer being big trash. We're Having a Black Ass Time

WE BACK!! In this episode Courtney & André discuss the overt anti-Blackness of cold weather, give shouts to Uchenna Kanu, Mia Fishel, and Deanne Rose. We also talk about PSG's dominant attacking trio not getting enough respect, the pic that made us dream of a USWNT attack, and give props to the Philippines cause the diaspora is far-reaching y'all! Then, in the wake of her induction into the Hall of Fame, Courtney talks about the importance of Shannon Boxx and how she revolutionized the way the position is played in America. We both chat about the NWSL's first CBA and give props to the people that made it happen. In Heated & Hyped we're still mad about the cold but are so damn hype for Mana Shim on a preseason roster!!! Then we hop over to the NWSL to get you caught up on notable player moves before discussing the NWSL Board of Governors' "decision" and where the North Carolina Courage are getting it all wrong in their weak ass charm offensive after re-signing Jaelene Daniels. Happy Birthday to...Us!!

Happy Birthday to...Us!!

Guess what? We are FIDDY years old! That's right, this is Courtney & André's fiftieth episode and, if you're listening the day it drops, it is exactly one year since our first episode. It's been so much fun and we can't thank y'all enough, but in this pod we tried! We put out the call for questions and y'all responded with some BANGERS! We talk about the Washington Spirit situation (#PassThatThangToKang), Mia Fishel's move to Tigres and what it means for the NWSL, how Brighton would fare in the NWSL, how Gotham would fare in the WSL, CONCACAF Champions League and Club World Cup, the most interesting and most perplexing offseason moves, and LOTS more. But first, we had to start the episode by talking about Elmo. Please share, subscribe, rate and review – we appreciate y'all! Follow us: Twitter - @DiasporaUtdPod Instagram - diasporautdpod

Drafts, Crypto, A Sequel Nobody Asked For, and NWSL Holiday Gifts

Aaaaand we're BACK! Courtney & André found a bit of time in between an unexpectedly busy holiday season to go through the bevy of news that's dropped since we last recorded. We review some key moves in the NWSL on either side of both drafts before getting into the Courage rolling out a sequel no one was asking for. Then we look ahead to the next round of the UWCL and pick out the matches we're extremely hyped to see. Since the NWSL can't stop NWSL'ing, Courtney gives a lesson on all that's wrong with the infiltration for crypto partnerships in women's soccer. Then we spread a little holiday cheer by handing out presents (or New Year's resolutions) for each NWSL team. Many of them need a lot of help, so we turn to Black Santa to get the job done! Euro Update and Domestic Foolishness

Euro Update and Domestic Foolishness

Courtney & André are back with another episode! The end of a USWNT cycle plus the NWSL madness then playoffs made our last few pods very American woso-centric, so we take a moment to back off all that and chat Europe. We run through D1 Arkema, WSL, the Frauen Bundesliga and Primera Iberdrola to get you caught up on key title races and players to watch, including young stars like Selma Bacha, Léa Khelifi, Deanne Rose and Mary Fowler. We also have yet another chat about Gareth Taylor because why is that man still employed??? Then we dive into domestic nonsense like Tegan McGrady erasure, gettin the expansion draft out the paint, making sense of Gotham's moves so far, and USSF continuing its long and storied history of being hot dog water. Formiga, Our NWSL Footy Awards, and Vlatko's 541

Courtney & André had a LOT to talk about so get comfy and ride with us. NWSL trade chaos has already started so we run through recent trades, including one that dropped mid-recording. We then talk Ballon d'Or, PRO's refusal to properly recognize, categorize or train NWSL referees (and what they're doing about it), plus spotlight some recent international fixtures. #DiacreOut After the break we do a deep dive into the USWNT's two matches in Australia. We get into Lynn and Midge ballin out, Emily Fox and Sofia Huerta locking down left and right back, Alana Cook puttin people in her pocket, the problem with Lindsey Horan, and we beg Vlatko to chill with this 541 thing he's obsessed with. Whew, think we'd be done right? NOPE! Then we roll into our inaugural Diaspora United 2021 NWSL Awards in which we crown our most stylish player, most disrespectful player, comeback player, goal of the year, rookie, defender and attacker of the year, and of course the real MVP. After all that we move to Heated & Hyped where we're both still fuming about Brazil's weak ass farewell to Formiga, who deserved so much more and much much better. I Got Beans, Greens, Potatoes, Tomatoes (DU x SBFC crossover, pt 1)

Due to the NWSL's refusal to stop NWSL'ing, we had way too much to talk about alone. So Courtney & André (or, per Courtney's request, Coach Stith & André the Giant), did another crossover pod with Skye & Sylvs, the good folks at Shea Butter FC! In Part 1 we discuss the NWSL Championship from the vantage point of two of us who were there and two who experienced the tv broadcast. We also discuss what it felt like for ALL of ERRBODY to witness a star exploding on the biggest stage, plus we give love to Sarah Gorden and Mal Pugh. Then each pod drops their respective and fully melanated Best XIs, we chat about the upcoming USWNT matches versus Australia and what/who we're looking forward to before finishing up with a crossover version of Heated & Hyped. PLAYOFF CHAOS

Courtney & André chat about some recent news around the woso world before diving straight into the two NWSL playoff quarterfinals, where we got a snoozer and a BANGER! Unfortunately, Courtney's squad was on the wrong end of the snoozer. We discuss the gameplan, what went wrong, Scott Parkinson's approach, and getting Red Stars'd. We also talk about Mal Pugh's impact and a much deserved, and absolute BANGER of a, goal! Then we move onto the BANGER of the weekend! André is still feeling the pure energy that emanated from the Spirit-Courage quarterfinal. We talk Debinha, Trinity Rodman, dueling nutmegs, the majesty of a versatile 6, and both goalkeepers showin out! It truly was a showcase of the talent in the league and we're both upset it wasn't on television. We then chat about the semifinals and, eventually, make our predictions. After that we get into Heated & Hyped, where we both have a Gotham-focused heated to share. Then we talk about what's got us hyped, including the return of the UWCL! And then there were six... (+ HOU, ORL, RL & KC season recaps)

Courtney & André return with an XXL episode! We start off by discussing the Portland Thorns' hiring of Karina LeBlanc as GM, the NWSL's lost-but-maybe-always-there-though-never-ever-enforced 'Rooney Rule', and the Kansas City Current (shoutout KC please don't hate us for laughing at one of your nicknames). Then....IT'S MF'N PLAYOFF TIME! We get into the last bit of the regular season that put the playoff picture into focus by going over OL Reign lookin filthy, Gotham struggling to score goals, and James Clarkson needing to learn that having learned isn't weakness. Then we look ahead to the first round of the playoffs where, surprisingly, Courtney is feeling MUCH more secure about one match than André is! But we don't stop there, it's not all about the six who made the playoffs. We talk about the four teams that missed out, how their season's went, and what changes need to be made ahead of the 2022 season. Then in Heated & Hyped we lament Virginia politics and say again, for the fifty-leventh time, do. not. let. Kaiya's. name. be. erased. from. this. moment! Vlatko, let love into your heart

Courtney & André hopped on the mics after the final whistle of the USWNT's last match this international break, a 6-0 win over South Korea. We discuss the issues of the first match, a 0-0 draw, and what changes in the second match that led to a much different result (hint: your 6 gotta 6). Then we look ahead to what the team could be, and Courtney drops some of her favorite lineup ideas for the future of the USWNT. Then we switch back into NWSL mode to review Gotham's latest match versus KC, and marvel at the last place team in the league being on a 7-game unbeaten run at home. We also look ahead to the wild weekend that awaits in which playoff seats will be won and lost, as well as a first round bye potentially being up for grabs. In Heated & Hyped, André expounds on his recent tweets about the Carli Extravaganza U.S. Soccer decided to put on, and Courtney talks about her frustrations for women footballers all over the world, brought on by listening to Attacking Third's interview with Cedella Marley, Global Ambassador for the Jamaican Women's Football Team. We also both discuss the recent nonsense a particular broadcast team got themselves into over Jennifer Cudjoe. We move on to what's got us hype, including Courtney being excited about the return of Insecure and André congratulates the recipient of the extra ticket to the NWSL Championship game that he accidentally bought. Courtney & André are back with another new episode for your earholes! (sidenote: why does the word 'earholes' sound so deeply disgusting? anyway... ) Your hosts discuss the new NWSL interim CEO, Marla Messing. We run through her credentials, the tasks she has in front of her, and what we're hoping she does and does not do. Then we discuss Lynn Williams and Sam Mewis' latest episode of Snacks, in which they interviewed Midge Purce. They touched on the Black Women's Player Collective and how it was formed, and we recall a conversation we had with Ify Onumonu, Imani Dorsey and Estelle Johnson on the GOTHAM FAMILY REUNION episode. After a short break we dive straight into NWSL madness. We review the latest slate of games and ask the question: Is Ebony Salmon good? #IMPACT We also have some words for folks dancing on Orlando's regular season grave. Courtney also breaks out her protractor, sundial, and TI-85 to deliver multiple playoff scenarios from Gotham's ~900 games in hand. After our brains are good and fried from NWSL playoff math, we shoutout some of the matches we're looking forward to during this international break. And stay tuned all the way through Heated & Hyped because we have a fun opportunity and YOU could win! BWPC, Malard’s BIKE, and NWSL Madness

Courtney & André return with another fresh episode! We start off by acknowledging and elevating NWSL players' words, requests, and instructions for support. We also read poignant words from Imani Dorsey, Black Women's Player Collective board member and Gotham FC outside back. With their blessing, we move forward and always in solidarity. Then we discuss recent NWSL news, and wonder if this is another okey doke from Steve Baldwin (#SellTheTeamSteve #SellToMichele). Then we talk about the drop of the Black Women's Player Collective's new logo, website, and ADIDAS partnership. Courtney is already dreaming of an Ivy Park collab, and both of us are hyped about the board and members. If you can, please donate to the BWPC directly at bwplayercollective.org. After that we get into the USWNT roster, shoutout Christen Press & Crystal Dunn for protecting their peace, then move onto the madness that is the playoff race at the end of this NWSL season. We discuss the recent games, how much the table shifted, how much it's likely to continue to shift, and ponder how Gotham always seems to have at least two games in hand. We take a quick break then come back to talk about the UWCL, including Melvine Malard on her bike and Selma Bacha ballin. Then we move to the WSL where we check-in on Hope Powell's Brighton, and drag Gareth Taylor for that nonsense he said about Ellen White and Bunny Shaw. A Diaspora United Special Investigation: Is Catarina Macario good at soccer?

The international break is over but it left plenty for Courtney & André to #discuss. We start off with a quick review of some key scores and goalscorers from the international break, including France dominating then struggling, Marta doing a(nother) madness, plus the Aisha Buhari Cup and more. Then we talk about the USWNT's two matches versus Paraguay and attempt to answer the question that seems to vex many a U.S. soccer fan: Is Catarina Macario good? We investigate! We also talk about the slew of bad takes that follow every big win by the USWNT, Casey Krueger being amazing, Crystal Dunn being disrespected (again), Sophia Smith being incredible, and Mal Pugh back and ballin out! After that we do some quick hits on the potential chaos of Kansas City's draft exemption becoming a tradable asset and FIFA22 getting it all the way wrong with their Top-22 rankings. Then we hop into things that really got us heated, from geoblocking to the foolish idea of a biannual World Cup that refuses to die. UWCL, WSL, NWSL, USWNT, and Syd Leroux Supremacy

The soccer never stops so Courtney & André do their best to keep you up to date on what to look for in Europe and the Americas. We start out by discussing the UWCL draw that just dropped, and pick some of the matchups we're looking to the most. We then check-in on the WSL where Hope Powell's Brighton continues to impress while Gareth Taylor's Manchester City does the opposite. Then we stop in France to shoutout some favs, including Yung Gawd Catarina Macario! After that we hop to the NWSL to review the latest slate of games, including The Baby getting the Thorns their first regular season win in North Carolina, Casey Krueger rescuing points for the Red Stars (plus more Sarah Gorden supremacy), and we remain in absolute awe at every note of the SYD LEROUX REVENGE TOUR. Then we turn our attention to the international break to review the USWNT squad and note key World Cup Qualifiers for France and England, plus two-legged "friendlies" between Brazil and Argentina (seriously, if you have a link, slide it to us). We also beg Vlatko to actually field a good USWNT lineup. In Heated & Hyped Courtney is annoyed at USMNT ticket prices and USSF's thin excuses for them while André is upset at one-night-only Washington Spirit Insider, The Rooster. We close on a high note though, while André is hyped for Emma Raducanu going on another incredible run in her second major event and winning it all, Courtney blesses us with a delightful surprise that will improve your day by at least 37%. "The NWSL got dragged internationally."

Anti-Black technical difficulties couldn't stop us! We sat down for the second time this week and STILL had plenty to say, plus we added some new topics cause the news, football, drama, and as Ben Olsen would call it, "noise", never stops! Courtney & André start the pod with a review of European national squads, key matches and top performers, plus we ask the question 'Is Catarina Macario good?'. Then we jump to the NWSL to run through scores, highlight some performances, and Courtney breaks down Gotham's attack with and without Midge (hint: MidgeVP)! Then after a break we get into the mess. We talk about how messy the NWSL Expansion Draft will likely be, then we turn to the absolute mess that is the Washington Spirit and that Ben Olsen interview. We wrap up by discussing the massive L that didn't need to be an L, the announcement of a 9am kickoff for the league's penultimate match, and the international dragging that ensued. We offer some solutions and, again, hope the league is listening. The news be newsin y'all! We dropped an episode last week, but so much has happened that it feels like it's been weeks since we hopped on the mics! Listen to us, NWSL (w/ Douglas Reyes-Ceron)

We had to get into it y'all. The NWSL refuses to get it, so we decided to help in our own special way. First, Courtney & André start the episode with some quick news and notes, then Courtney runs through the latest NWSL results, including a breakdown of Gotham FC's shiny new 3-5-2 formation (also #FREECUDJOE). Then we welcome Douglas Reyes-Ceron, co-founder of Rose Room Collective, an independent supporter group for the Washington Spirit and D.C. United by, and for, people of color. We delve into Richie Burke's reassigning/firing/suspension in the wake of more revelations of verbal abuse, the coverup attempted by prominent members of the front office, and what must happen if the club is serious about shifting the culture away from what it has become. Then we broaden the scope and discuss the NWSL as a whole. With CBA negotiations underway, we talk about the league's flawed approach, massive blind spots, and how this is a crossroads moment for the league – and its ultimate survival. We also identify steps the league can immediately take to improve, such as protecting players through actual vetting and accountability measures, paying living wages, identifying their true fanbase by engaging with and listening to supporters' groups, understanding that the league doesn't have a monopoly on women's soccer and isn't entitled to the labor of its players, and following the blueprint the WNBA and WNBPA have already created. Then we review the weekend's NWSL matches, including dispatches from matches we covered live. Courtney dishes on Gotham FC vs. North Carolina Courage, and André goes in on Segra Field again before recapping Washington Spirit vs. Portland Thorns. Courtney & André return to talk through the results and bemoan the football gods pitting diaspora against diaspora in Canada and Brazil. Then we get into the USWNT's great escape over the Netherlands. We spotlight concerns about some performances and decisions being made, but celebrate the players that balled out to keep the L away! We also give a special shoutout to Sarina Wiegman, who helped Vlatko overcome the silly mistake of naming Lynn Williams as an alternate. Also shouts to Crystal Dunn for locking her flank DOWN despite all the isolation, and Alyssa Naeher for saving not one, not two, but THREE penalties! Please listen, share, rate and review! Lavender Js (w/ Ally Watt)

Yes it's us again but this time we brought a friend! Courtney & André welcome in Texas A&M, Melbourne City and OL Reign star Ally Watt! Ally discusses the devastating injury she suffered twelve minutes into her NWSL career and her difficult path to recovery. She also talks about the mental strength required to reteach and re-train your body, and sheds insight on the long road back that people on the outside never see. Then – y'all know us – we go all over the place! We talk about angry kangaroos, scoring a goal with pneumonia, stanning Zendaya, Game of Thrones s8, the ridiculous athleticism of Olympic athletes, her love of Js, and so much more! Get into it! RERELEASE: Go Girl Give Us Nothing!!

Courtney & André try to process waking up at 4am for *that* USWNT performance. Before we get into it, we talk about how the real potential banger of the day – Brazil vs. Zambia – was marred by injuries and VAR deciding to insert itself for no good reason. Still, the overall story of the group stages is Barbra Banda and Zambia, who balled out and showed real resolve to keep it 1-0 for 80+ minutes versus Brazil. Then, well, we get into it. We ask many questions about that USWNT performance, such as 'Why?', and 'But why?', and also 'WHY?'. Pragmatism is one thing, Fred Flintstone'ing a Ferrari is another. We talk about what it means for the U.S. to be heading into the group stages without much confidence at all. We also ask, if their next match was at 4am, and after what happened today, would you get up for it? One of us would! Please listen, share, rate and review! Courtney & André run through all of the results on the day and go wild over Zambia striker Barbra Banda's second consecutive Olympic hat-trick, which has never been done before in the history of history! We chat through all the matches and talk about how each group is looking as we head into the final matchday of group play. We also take a bit of time to wonder if the USWNT truly turned things around versus New Zealand (hint: ehhhh). Please listen, share, rate and review! And I Oop...

And I Oop...

WHEW! The USWNT made us get up before God and morality for THAT?! Courtney & André had to hop on the mics to react to the USWNT's 44-match unbeaten streak ending in emphatic fashion as they were mollywhopped by Sweden, 3-0. We talk about what went oh so wrong, what Sweden did to cause it, how the USWNT never adjusted, those pre-Olympics matches not being the smokescreen we thought they were, and adjustments we would've liked to see (and what we hope to see moving forward)! Let's get it! Courtney & André are back with a fresh episode, and get this y'all, this is episode TWENTY-FIVE! First off we wanted to thank y'all for listening, sharing, following the pod account and showing us love, it truly means a lot to us! In this episode we start by running through the latest results in the NWSL, including a breakdown of the #DiasporaUnitedDerby plus shouts to Midge Purce, Sydney Leroux, Sophia Smith, Trinity Rodman and Mal Pugh! Then we shift our attention to the Olympics, where we grapple with 'Should they even be happening?' and 'I gotta get up at what time now?'. We discuss how much the move to change alternates to full squad members changes, and how it probably saved U.S. Soccer from itself. We also run through the groups and call out the diaspora on every team, and talk about the two ways Canada are running circles around the U.S. Please listen, share, rate and review! Let's get it! We have a brand new episode for you in which Courtney & André talk through what it might sound like if they called an NWSL match. Then they do a quick wrap-up of some recent transfer news from across the women's football landscape, and do a rundown of the most recent NWSL results. After that they dive deeper into each match to discuss SYD LEROUX'S REVENGE TOUR, Ebony Salmon: Wife Hunter, Gotham's defense coming up huge, Jas Spencer ballin, and Jessica Silva pullin the okey doke on Sarah Bouhaddi. Then we introduce a new segment! We take turns discussing what's got each of us hot, and end with something that got us hype! Stick around for our thoughts on the EURO 2020 and Eni Aluko and Angel City FC, then hear us shine the spotlight some people and/or things that deserve to be celebrated. Mexico, Matcha, and a Masterpiece

What's good y'all? It's Courtney & André back with another episode! First we run through the latest NWSL headlines and latest results, including a new leader at the top of the table, the oddness of the Benstiti resignation, and the only way to expel the hex Gotham FC has on their goal is to hit BANGERS. Then we talk about the USWNT completing its Send Off Series with Mexico. We dive into what we learned after the two matches in Hartford, including how Mexico impressed us, Christen Press's exquisite finishing, plus THAT MASTERPIECE OF A GOAL! We also talk about the worrisome fact that none of the white players publicly stood up for Christen and Crystal after conservative trash bags tried to use them in their never-ending culture war. Lastly, we start to come to terms with 4:30am kickoffs, and it does not go well (lol seriously tho help). Please listen, rate, review and subscribe – we appreciate y'all! We're back with some fresh new podness for your earholes! That sounded weird and I'm not sure I like it but anyway, Courtney & André return for another episode! They run through results from the NWSL's Super Saturday and hit one some key topics of discussion in each match. Then, what you all have been waiting for... At ~32:30 they delve into the disappointment that is the USWNT Olympic Roster. We ask such questions as 'When does NWSL performance matter?', 'When does it not?', 'What criteria is used?', 'Does versatility still count if one of the jobs isn't done well?', and 'How much will Christen Press's back ache from carrying that attack?' – plus so much more! Shrosses, Ebony Salmon, and Juneteenth

What's good!? We're back with yet another fresh episode for your earholes! First, Courtney & André do a quick review of some international woso news, including Marta and Formiga going to their fifth(!!) and SEVENTH(!!!) Olympics respectively. Then we dive into the past weekend of NWSL matches to kickstart the #StartIFY campaign, bask in Crystal Dunn's amazingness, ponder what one thing KC seems to be missing, LOSE OUR MINDS OVER EBONY SALMON'S DEBUT GOAL, and shoutout baby goat Trinity Rodman's first NWSL regular season goal! Then we move onto the Courage-Reign match to discuss Lynn Williams becoming the NWSL's all-time assists leader and Jessica McDonald scoring. After, we talk about the calamity of broadcasting a Black child that was supposed to be McDonald's son but wasn't, what that means, who's at fault, who should apologize (and to whom), plus the absence of public accountability measures to help us trust that it won't happen again. This error being made on Juneteenth led us to the Houston Dash, who missed a significant opportunity given that Houston is less than an hour away from Galveston, Texas, where Juneteenth originated. Living in Christen Press Glory

What's good!? Courtney & André turned their mics on immediately after the USWNT's 2-0 win versus Nigeria in the final match of the 2021 Summer Series for a chat about the competition overall and where the USWNT stands ahead of the Olympics. Naturally we begin in the right and proper place and do a little stanning over Christen Press's 1 goal and 3 assist performance across three matches in six days! Then we talk about the rare opportunity to see a #FreedMidge for the national team, the somewhat frequent disjointedness in attack, Lindsey Horan as the 6, and ponder if the tournament was a missed opportunity for Vlatko to experiment more with different lineups, players and formations. Racismo returns with Pace and Power

Racismo returns with Pace and Power

Courtney and André were all hyped and ready to talk about all of the great football that happened, but the #racismo just wouldn't stop. So before we dove into the matches, we had to discuss the NWSL's hollow statement on their investigation and ultimate failure to believe the Black women in its league and protect them and their families. We also have words for Kaylyn Kyle's silly use of "pace and power" in multiple matches, and her misguided attempt to make up for it in the next match she called. THEN, we finally get to talk about soccer! We discuss the Challenge Cup overall, ask if the five 0-0s mean anything, identify our surprises of the competition and name our tournament MVPs. We also talk about some recent NWSL rumors and how — if true — they might impact the regular season and rival everyone's (ours too) presumptive favorites, the Portland Thorns. We then hop over to Europe to chat about the Champions League semifinals and give our initial thoughts about the UWCL Final! Subscribe, rate and review! Then we get into a discussion about the new #UWCL format beginning in 2021/22, discuss UEFA being so late to secure centralized television rights for the tournament, and get in on completely roasting the failed European Super League as a staff, record label, and mf'n crew. Ah Sh!t, Here We Go Again

Courtney and André are back! The NWSL is back! And racism in WoSo is back! Sigh. We discuss the racial discrimination and targeting that happened to Sarah Gorden's boyfriend after the Challenge Cup opener in Houston. Then we hop up to the Pacific Northwest where the Portland Thorns managed to turn a scuffle between two players into a racist incident of their own. We talk about much of Portland refusing to log off, or, instead, celebrate a win in front of fans -- something they hadn't been able to do since September 21, 2019. Then we shift our attention to the USWNT and breakdown what went oh so horribly wrong against Sweden, plus what needs to happen (and who does and doesn't need to start) to make sure that performance isn't repeated versus France. NWSL Got It All Wrong (w/ Sara)

NWSL Got It All Wrong (w/ Sara)

On International Transgender Day of Visibility the NWSL released its Policy on Transgender Athletes. The policy was billed by the league as inclusive, and the tweet announcing the policy even mentioned how the league wanted to 'celebrate' trans and non-binary 'friends and fans' – except the policy itself fails to mention non-binary athletes at all (even though one out non-binary player already plays in the NWSL). Unfortunately, that was just the tip of a very large and unnecessarily terrible iceberg. To discuss that and all of the other ways the policy fails – and endangers – trans and non-binary athletes, Courtney and André are joined by Sara, a non-binary football fanatic and longtime NWSL supporter, to break it all down and demand better from the NWSL. After, Courtney unveils the findings of her weeks of research trying to quantify the number of Black woman footballers in the top-5 European leagues and NWSL.
