The DiScardIt Podcast

By Jennifer N. Brantley, Esq.

Jennifer Brantley, Esq. is an attorney, speaker & preacher’s wife who battled imposter syndrome & came out crown-side up. She understands what it’s like to feel discounted, uninvited & discarded - but you can’t stay there if you want to succeed at this thing called life. You have to be your own star, even when everything around you seems dim. You may be scarred, you may have been bruised, but your story isn’t over yet. But first, you have to let some things go. So let’s do that, together & one step at a time. Follow Jennifer at https://instagram.com/fire_esquire?igshid=2xht4u7qssxf.

(re)Purposed, Season 3, Episode 8: There’s Growth in Your Discomfort Part Deux

Growth often requires discomfort. Not the “beat your hand against a wall” discomfort, but a “I’ve never been here before” discomfort. We tackled this subject once before in an interview with boss babe Crystal Adeyemo. Now, we’re tackling it from a different angle. It’s grow time. (un)Qualified Episode 2: I Looked Up, and He Was Gone

At 20 years old, Natilie Williams received her Bachelors from Central Michigan University. At 22, she received her Masters in Communication from Illinois State University. Natilie graduated with both degrees without a dime of student loan debt! She currently travels the nation (virtually now, because COVID) inspiring students and other groups to lead with legacy, push through their circumstances and achieve even their wildest dreams. In this episode, we discuss her doctoral research on the "ghosting" phenomenon and what it means for black women and black sisterhood, in particular. While Ms. Williams's research focuses on the black community, it's worth noting that anyone who has fallen prey to or perpetrated ghosting (pulled a Caspar, as we like to say) will benefit from the discourse. We also discuss learning to extend grace to ourselves, so that we and those in our circle receive only the most healthy and whole version of who we are - topics she covers in her upcoming book Innerview: Lessons in Leadership, which will be available in November of 2020.  Connect with Natilie at www.natwillspeak.com or @NatWillSpeak on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. Episode 13: Discard Your Unhappy, with Maxine Reyes

Episode 13: Discard Your Unhappy, with Maxine Reyes

Maxine Reyes (@maxinereyestv) is an entrepreneur, coach, combat veteran, wife, mother and accomplished soloist. When it comes to transitions, she has certainly seen her fair share (and gleaned some valuable lessons along the way). Her metamorphosis was a long road that saw required a multitude of life adjustments. She came from Jamaica to the US as a young adult hoping to find her dream, before joining the US Military. She later transitioned from single life to dual military coupledom, to parenthood, and then from military member to veteran to businesswoman - and that’s just to name a few. Maxine has learned to approach each new echelon of life "with courage and grace" (Be sure to check out her podcast of the same name: https://www.facebook.com/courageandgracepodcast/), and has necessarily discarded timidity along the way. She’s, instead, learned to embrace her vulnerability, ability to compromise, as well as her indelible strength - especially as it relates to relationships of both the business and marital kind.   And, speaking of marriage, Maxine is also one half of Happily Joint (https://happilyjoint.com/), a venture started with husband, Ken, where their primary goal is to help couple "make happiness last". Maxine sat down with me for this DiscardIt Friday and we enjoyed an open and honest discussion about the the ways couples can find and re-establish happiness and commitment through relationship resiliency and how everyone can apply similar concepts to their work partnerships and entrepreneurial pursuits.  Want to connect with Maxine after the episode? Episode 10: Discard Daddy Issues & Detangle the Sins of Our Fathers with Christian Jackson

Episode 10: Discard Daddy Issues & Detangle the Sins of Our Fathers with Christian Jackson

Christian Jackson, LPC, CACI, NCC is a licensed therapist based in SC and has worked in the human services field for more than 15 years. “community is a word dear to her heart and, as a therapist, she believes it’s important to focus on how to improve skills to manage triggers related to depression, anxiety, and harmful world views. Christian recently authored a book called “Daddy Issues: How to Detangle from the Sins of Our Fathers”  She graciously granted me a sneak peek, and, after reading it, had to have her on DiscardIt. She starts by talking about the symptoms and procedure for diagnosing "daddy issues" - a condition we all know exists, but won't find in any version of the DSM. She breaks down the different archetypes (the clingy one, the gold/goal digger, etc.) and you can bet that you will either see yourself in some of the descriptions, or someone you know.  So today we’re discarding - you guessed it - daddy issues and the shame and guilt created by them. One lucky listener will also win a free copy of Christian's book, Daddy Issues, which hits shelves in July, as well as some DiscardIt swag. Check out our social media pages for the details.  Christian can be found on @couchwithchristian on Instagram, her group "Overcoming Daddy Issues" can be found at https://www.facebook.com/groups/1378205069055206. Episode 5: Discard the Past with Marla Bautista of The Bautista Project, Inc.

One word to describe today’s guest is “overcomer”. This week, we sat down with Marla Bautista of The Bautista Project, Inc.
