EP #148 | Realty Income under $60 - a Business Breakdown and our thoughts about the stock | Also: an update on British American Tobacco

This week we have a jam-packed show.

We start by discussing British American Tobacco ($BTI, $LON:BATS)  who replaced its CEO Jack Bowles after the company received a fine of $635 for doing business with North Korea. EDGI talks about the number of intangibles on the company and we give our thoughts on the amount of goodwill the company holds on its balance sheet. Intangibles make up ~70% of the balance sheet. Goodwill is approximately 25% which is a lot. Combustibles is declining rapidly however the dividend seems safe at ~50% payout to FCF.

Dividend Hikes this week -  Chubb Limited ($CB) hikes dividend by 3.6% to $0.86 quarterly. This marks the 30th consecutive annual increase in the company's dividend

Our main topic centers around Realty Income ($O).

Why are we talking about Realty Income

What makes them so special

What concerns us about Realty Income

How do we analyze a company like Realty Income

What is our fair value valuation of the company

We finish the show off with  lots of questions from the community

Tickers mentioned are - $BTI, $O, $CB, £CSN, $MLI,$BUD, $DIS, $TGT, $WBA, $SCHD, $MO, APD, $TSN, $MMM, TYO:8058 WHA.AS, SBMO.AS, SIE.DE, $PYPL, $AFG, ALV.DE,NN.AS, $TROW, ASRNL.AS

EP #147 - An interview with Jeremy Shirey about his Dividend Growth Investment journey

This week we are joined by Jeremy Shirey from www.Dividendstockpile.com

In the News of the Week, we discuss how the shareholders of Philips (NYSE: PHG) sent a clear message that they are unhappy with the board.  EDGI discusses the recent price drop around castellum (CAST.STO) and Jeremy discusses inflation and the debt ceiling in the US

We also discuss with Jeremy how he started in Dividend growth investing over 10 years ago. How close he and his wife are from retirement and living off dividend income.  How he has evolved as an investor over the last 10 years and what forms the foundation of his strategy.

Jeremy also talks us through what a CEF is, how it differs from ETFs, and why he invests in both as well as individual stocks.  We take a look at Jeremy's top 10 positions and how he designs his portfolio which is similar to EDGI tier style.

Lastly, we look at some of the lessons Jeremy learned over the years which includes our famous “You can’t borrow conviction” saying.

We answer some questions thanks to the community before Jeremy leaves us with his stock pick of the week.  You don't want to miss this as it has a 5% starting yield and a 15% growth rate.

EPS 140 - how we decide what to buy when the market is under stress.

EPS 140 - how we decide what to buy when the market is under stress.

In this episode, we share our thoughts on how we decide what to buy when the market is under stress.

At the beginning of the episode, we discuss the news of the week surrounding ECB rate hike and how this has caused some fear for Irish residents due to the eviction ban being lifted at the end of the month. We also discuss Pfizer ($PFE) and their decision to spend $43 billion to acquire Seagen.  Is this cash-rich company squandering money?

Dividend Updates this week include Inditex, WP Carey and Vonovia.

In the main topic, we discuss how the current situation in the financial sector is influencing what we buy.

EDGI key takeaways include:

Avoid the blast zone at all times! You don’t need to be a hero  Look for high-quality stocks unrelated to the blast zone. However, often they hardly correct. Point in case: Texas Instruments, LVMH  However, insurance companies might still be worth considering. However, why are they dropping so much then? Ideally, I would buy for instance Pharma stocks right now, or consumer staples Energy is usually neither really a good idea because it’s very sensitive to consumer demand and expectations around that. This is your time to gobble up some high-quality stocks. As an example, JNJ doesn’t look too bad at these prices.

Derek’s key takeaways include:

Try and stick to your core holdings Forget about price and yield. Focus on fundamentals and what can change them         Feels like a candy store but blocking out all the noise is important

As always we finish the episode with listener questions.

Tickers discussed in this Podcast are NN.AS, TROW, AD.AS , WU, GEBN

This week we are releasing part 2 of our conversation with Henrik from Dividend Athlete.

After a short quick-fire round with Henrik, we discuss Why Athletes need to invest,  how Dividend Athlete got started in dividend stocks, and the tax implications when traveling to different clubs to play football.

After questions from the community we look at Colin Boylan top 5 stocks in his defensive portfolio:

Odysseus -> On annual meetings, you guys usually vote for or against the company reporting lobby activities on areas such as Climate Lobbying (Oil industry) or shareholders proposing reports on sugar and public health ($KO)

Forward dividends - In the wake of $T, do you think more companies should adopt the European approach of more closely linking period results with the dividend rather than borrowing to pay the dividend (e.g. $GE, $IBM, etc.)?

We started with the news of the week.

👉 European Dividend Growth Investor shares news on a potential merger with Chubb

👉 EMF shares his reflection on the European Superleague. Do you think it was a good Idea?

Main topic:

A brief look at the different companies reporting their Q2 2021 earnings. $T, SWX: NESN, $KO, $BN , $INTC , EPA: OR, $IBM and $KMB

Listener Questions:

This week we received several questions again from our loyal listeners

Phil - Is there any company where you would love to see a spin-off or a bigger merger/acquisition in 2021? Centrino - My average price for $MO is 42$, back in October laser year. Last week, it reached 52$. I.e. the yield decreased. Would you keep making DCA monthly, after such an upside? Or temporarily pause buying, waiting that the price drops back? Sheep Stocks -  will Waterford win the All Ireland? And if Waterford GAA had a public company that paid out a dividend would you consider buying it? Tiago Dias -  Do you think we will see tax-advantaged accounts like Roth IRA and 401Ks  appear in Europe anytime soon? Or do you think the Pan-European Pension Products will remove the political will to implement such a solution, leaving us stuck to chronically underperforming products? Celtic Investor - If ye could only hold 3 stocks, 1 European, 1 US and 1 from the rest of the world, what would they be and why? Taurus Invests -  Do you utilize your CGT allowance of 1270 every year? Tony- Imagine you are only allowed to invest in one single stock. Which one of your portfolios would you choose? Forwards Dividends - What is the European reaction to Biden's cap gains tax plan?  Do you think Americans are just spoiled?

EP #42 - Q1 2021 Portfolio Review

In Episode 42 we discuss our Q1 2021 dividend portfolio results. But first some news

👉 EMF Discusses

WBA Earnings

Microsoft army contract

.

👉 EDGI Discusses

TMSC $1oo Billion Dollar Investment

For the main Topic, both hosts discuss their purchases and sales over the last 3 months, who the top performers are, and also how far to financial freedom they are

Listener Questions:

This week we received several questions again from our loyal listeners

Phil Segler - Not related to the topic, but a rather "philosophical" question: When should an investor be more greedy: The first time you open a position, or when you add more later on? (keywords: Averaging up/down, time in the market vs. timing the market). 2nd question to the topic in case that you do not cover it: Do you care at all how a benchmark performs?

Taurus Invests - Must a stock have a minimum Div Yield to entice you?

Odysseus - - Having a mix of EU/USA stocks which is the benchmark that you use? - How important is to beat the benchmark? - How was your performance against the benchmark used? From your current portfolio what company you see as a tenbagger?

Dividend Wave - $IBM , $INTC done who is next on the chopping block and why?

Tiago Diaz - What's your YTD return? Who was your best performer? Who was the worst?

Wolf of Harcourt Street - What is an under the radar stock that you think will benefit from economies reopening?

The Stoic Trader - May be something you have covered before, but when calculating your performance do you use TWR or IRR?

EloySnowball - According to this graph, U.S. consumer staples have been the worst sector in Q1-21, still, it’s hard to find a cheap one (probably $GIS and $MO). What do you think, or you see more value in european staples?

Tommy - What do you think about Allianz?

Rafa Martinez Valera - Could you share your opinion on Broadcom

Alex - Do you use any ESG/SRI (or anything similar) metrics when deciding which stock to include in your portfolio?

Phil Segler - There seem to be a lot of supply chain issues happening right now (Texas Winter, semiconductor industry, other basic materials and plastics, Suez channel): Is this something you take into account for this year's strategy?

Centrino: With a lot of dividend stocks overvalued due to price appreciation, wouldn't it be smart to sell a portion of shares.

Dividend Wave- your longer form feedback on $INTC unleashed.

Tiago Diaz - The upcoming $UL annual general meeting is coming, and there's 26 resolutions to be voted on. Have you considered how you're going to vote? Which items will you reject?

The NL Dividend Investor - Do you have a strategy or rule to buy solid companies that are always looking overvalued? Like Visa, Mastercard, Nike for instance.

Dr P - Which sectors seem to be undervalued the most right now? I've been eyeballing and buying solid insurance companies with good dividend histories since last fall, for example. Are there other sectors worth screening for solid undervalued dividend growth companies right now?

Joe - What are your favorite UK stocks (for dgi or or not).

I want to add some GBP to my portfolio.

ImagInvests - If you could only pick one dividend stock to sit on for 25 years, what would it be?

Odysseus - I have a question for you guys. Which is the best and the worst Investor Relation Department/Site that you have come across so far?  I had some bad experiences with Air Liquide.

Michel Christiansen: What do you think of IBM

For the main topic, We discuss the difference in Inflation and interest rates and what this means for Dividend Growth investors.

Listener Questions:

This week we received several questions again from our loyal listeners

Phil Segler - Rapid Fire Questions for you tonight:

* Pharma or BioTech

* Europe or North America

* Cathie Wood or Warren Buffett

Follow up from Piotr - And EU not only WE

I am curious to hear the opinions of our two Experts about Russia especially, low CAPE and perspectives for cyclical as materials and energy. I am building the position there seeing the expensive US and WE

Dividend Dane: Inflation - It’s likely that inflation is on the rise, and that it’ll go above 2% annually for an extended period. Seen numerous economists expect a decade of an avg. inflation of 2,5 - 3.0%.

Lets just go with 2,5%.

How will that impact the way you think, both with regards to investing, and your FIRE plans (the math changes when inflation goes up by 66%).

Rafa Martinez Valera - my question: name a stock that you would love on your portfolio and you never bought because always seems too expensive

Tiago Diaz - Do you keep track of the hidden fx fees when you buy non-euro denominated stocks with degiro? If so, how do you calculate and register them?

I had a hard time keeping track of it, and it annoyed me that the numbers didn't match up, that I ended up leaving degiro over it...

Daniel - Hi guys, great work with your podcast! Question: How would you currently invest a lump sum of 30.000€/US$? How many dividend stocks would you choose/ how much would you invest in each?

Dividend Sjef - My question; I do my valuation, I set my margin of safety but sometimes, when stockprice hits value without my safety net, I just can’t control my emotions (and buy Winking face). ‘How’ do you handle this?

This week we received several questions again from our loyal listeners

Dividend Dane - Your Chowder experiment.- Has it made you consider some of your future investments and/or positions? When will @EMF_01 do the same exercise on his portfolio

Piotr - I liked the last one with valuation metrics so now would appreciate if you can cover efficiency metrics ie ROE ROA ROCE etc. Which ones do you use, if any? Do you recommend any particular one?

Sego Investor - Do you guys sell a company when is over performing in order to keep the balance of your portfolio? If yes what is the criteria? Thoughts on Roche?

The NL Dividend Investor - How happy are you that you are a dividend investor and you are not worried about the current volatility in the stock market? The volatility will even create opportunities to buy great companies at a lower price.

Tony One millionjourney.com - When do you guys expect to become financially independent following your DGI strategy?

Joapen - Related to risks of a company. How do you track, asses and review them? BI-Investor - Yes i have a Question , when we Look at $CME Group , Dividendmonster , yearly raising dividends and NEARLY every year Theres an extra Dividend. Our thoughts about popular valuation metrics | Dividend Talk | Eps 38

In this episode, we discuss some of the most popular methods to value a company.

---
0:00 - Intro
3:06 - News of the week
14:47 - Our thoughts on the different valuation metrics
35:11 - Listener questions
53:30 - Stock pick of the week
---

We started with the news of the week:
👉  EuropeanDGI strikes again as we discuss Emanuel Fabel stepping down as CEO of Danone
👉 We discuss Chamath Palihapitiya and why virgin galactic dropped 18%
👉 finally we discuss the US treasury Yield and why it is important that it is rising so fast

Main topic:
We discuss the following valuation metrics: P/E ratio, Price to Book, Price to Sales, PEG ratio, Dividend Discount Model, Discounted Cash Flow, Dividend Yield

Listener Questions:
This week we received several questions again from our loyal listeners
Phil Segler - Which incoming dividend payment do you normally cherish the most? (For me - even though not the highest - I like my monthly $O the most). eDGI: Which CEO do you want to see next resigning?
Dividend Wave - Which CEO is annoying you enough at the moment (and why?) that may deserve one of your tweets-of-soon-to-be-unemployed-CEO*?
Dividendencheck - I recently saw a video from @ppcian about his speculation strategy. Do you also own more speculative stocks/assets or do you focus exclusively on dividend stocks ?
Tommy - What do you think about $LEG Leggett & platt inc. great podcast!
Arrozdetom - If there’s a 20-30% pull back in the market will you do anything special? A lot of people talk about consolidation of portfolio. What do you think about that? How often do you make buys in 1 month? I tend to do it all in one day so I don’t get tempted to time the market. Also i find a bit stressful to look at a stock hoping for a better entry point.
Tony - What financial media do you read and would recommend to others?

Stock pick of the week:
eDGI shares his stock pick of the week. This time a US dividend aristocrat?

Ep #37 - Its a marathon and not a sprint. Yet more earnings! | $O $BASF $REE $MUV2

In this episode, we are running through some more earnings from Realty Income, BASF, Red Electrica and Munich RE and more!

We started with the news of the week.

👉  AT&T made the headlines with DirecTV again. Check out our thoughts and maybe a mini rant from european dgi

We discuss no fewer than 7 companies' earnings reports. It really is a marathon at this time of the year. But we love it!

Listener Questions:

This week we received several questions again from our loyal listeners

Phil Segler - How did your risk tolerance develop over the years? How did the size of a "standard purchase order" develop? (Example for me in the beginning it was 1k, then for a bit rather 2...3k, now moving towards 4...5k per order)

Dividend Dane - Question - “Falling in love” with certain stocks in both your portfolio and your watchlist is very common. Do you ever try to evaluate if there are better options out there?

Piotr - Do you have any rules or hints for averaging down? Actually, I increased Unilever after first drop and now seeing further drops have no idea about further increases

Tiago Dias - What do you think about using profit margins as a proxy to determine how high a companies PE ratio can be before it becomes a bad deal? i.e: $MSFT has around 36% profit margin, so a PE of 35 might be a better deal, compared to $ADM with margins around 5% and a PE of 17

Eduardo Garcia (aka Enzo):  HI DGI, questions for the next program AHOLD DEL... report some issues related to pension programs in USA and EU, this is good or bad? or maybe normal.  And why don’t European companies need to file something like a quarterly 10K?

Main topic:

A brief look at the different companies reporting their FY 2020 earnings.

Listener Questions:

This week we received several questions again from our loyal listeners

1️⃣ Phil - Assume a market at ATH, what would you do:

a) Stay with your key stocks, even if they are expensive

b) Wait until markets cool down

c) look for new companies on page 10 of google

2️⃣ Peter from Belgium (via email)

Do you take into account double taxation of dividends when selecting a stock?

For example: when I receive dividends from American stocks in Belgium it is taxed in the US at 15% and then again at 30% in Belgium. So almost half of the dividend is lost to taxes.

3️⃣ Rafa - Hi! I have a question, once you spotted a good company DGI, how do you assess when is the good moment to buy?do you trust only your CFdiscount model for valuation or do you look at PE forward, Shiller ratio, EV/EBITDA, FCF yield or FCF for Equity vs historical?

4️⃣ Richlan -  How do you develop a buying strategy. Like I'm having trouble deciding how big my positions in each stock should be?

5️⃣ Piotr - When starting to build a div portfolio would you go for high yield but low growing stocks to boost investing capital at the beginning or would you focus on lower yield but high div growth?what is your favorite austrian stock? Mine is "mayr melnhof" from a dividend growth point of view

6️⃣ Dividendencheck - What is your favorite Austrian stock? Mine is “Mayr Melnhof” from a dividend growth point of view.

7️⃣ Dapper Dividends - What is an underrated dividend analysis metric?

EP #27 - The ultimate dividend stock to buy our kids this Christmas

In this episode we are already getting in the mood for the upcoming Christmas holiday break. This episode we dedicated to the ultimate dividend stock we would buy for our kids right now. Off course, EMF and eDGI are who they are so there’s definitely a catch to it ;-)

Having said that, we started with the news of the week.

Main Topic:

EMF and eDGI share their choice regarding the ultimate dividend stock to buy for their kids at Christmas

Listener Questions:

This week we received multiple questions from our loyal listeners.

Phil - How much time do you normally spend before making an investment decision? Any "safety timer" so that you do not spend too much time reading more and more documents/news/reports?

Dividend Dane - Do you have views on geographic allocation? US, Europe, Asia (incl. Australia/NZ), Emerging markets etc.

Piotr - how to allocate different currencies and how to mitigate currency risk. Especially here I am curious how do you @European_DGI  handle this living with PLN and high fluctuations of it.

Also Letus Compound asked this:

How to incorporate the current rise of the euro vs the dollar in valuation models? Is this opportunity or not?

Lets compound - How long do you have 'patience' with a stock? For example a company with strong and growing profits, but for some reason the stock price doesn't follow.(small stock, underfollowed,...)

East_set - What do you think about market timing. I am unsure if investing right now is a wise decision as many people expect a downturn. On the other hand every study suggests that trying to time the market and staying out of it for longer leads to less returns ?

Rafa Martinez Valera - I want to ask if you have reviewed Logista(LOG)seems like a DGI but very thin margins and 2020 free cash flow (very positive)affected by changes in IRFS 16

Kurt - Which techniques do you both use WHEN to write a call or put on your shares?

So far which have stuck out the most to you (positive/negative/totally surprising/however you want to classify it)

Phil -

Given the choice of any business lady/man or famous investor in the world, whom would you want as a dinner guest?
What do you prefer more - well known brand to the public or a hidden champion in a specific sector?

EP #18 - Our thoughts on Walgreens and Johnson & Johnson earnings

This week we are discussing the recent earnings announcements of Walgreens ($WBA) and Johnson & Johnson ($JNJ). We are both very excited that earnings season has really started now.

There are many great Dividend Aristocrats and European Noble 30 members reporting earnings in the upcoming week. Actually, we declared next week 22 October as #DividendDay.

Several great companies are reporting their earnings on that day: Unilever ($UL $UNA) Hermes International ($RMS), L’Oreal ($OR), AT&T ($T), Coca-Cola ($KO), Intel Corp. ($INTC), Kimberly-Clark ($KMB).

eDGI shares the news that Mexico put a ban on a dozen of global dairy brands. They seem to not live up to the standards that the Mexican government has described. https://www.reuters.com/article/mexico-dairy/mexico-bans-global-brands-dairy-products-for-breaching-standards-idINL1N2H50WE

After the main topic we addressed several listener questions:

Phil - Hypothetically, if the current CEO of a company stepped down, and you had the choice between the CFO or CTO to step up as next CEO - who would you choose, and why?

Danny - Any thoughts on space stocks such as Momentus thats meant to IPO start of 2021? Dividend Newbie - How long does it normally take to do a thorough analysis of a company before you feel ready to invest?

EP #16 - Q3 Dividend Portfolio review

EP #16 - Q3 Dividend Portfolio review

this week we reviewed both our portfolios in relation to its Q3 performance.

We started the show with the news of the week

EMF asks European DGI about his opinion of Unilever's HQ move to the UK. eDGI shares his historical perspective for this move and why it makes sense to choose the UK. He does bring up the point though about its dividend reliability if Unilever starts to use the British Pound as their base currency. Will it mean that Euro investors will be exposed to additional currency risk?

https://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/m...

EMF also shares the recent news about Shell. Shell is planning to cut up to 9000 jobs and we talk about what it might mean for the company.

https://edition.cnn.com/2020/09/30/bu...

EDGI shares his thoughts about Bayer. Bayer just announced an adjusted performance outlook. It also gave a heads-up about upcoming impairment charges in its agriculture business. What to do with Bayer, that’s really the question.

https://www.investor.bayer.com/en/nc/...

Last but not least, EMF and eDGI also share their support for Beurswolf’s S&P500 major league. They find it a very interesting and competitive contest. They’re recommending everyone to join the contest via Twitter.

https://beurswolf.com/2020/09/28/sp50...

Main Topic:

The main topic was about reviewing their portfolios and how it performed in Q3 2020. eDGI’s income from dividend was still growing strongly while his absolute portfolio value stayed flat. This was mainly due to a drag down in his Oil stocks and net new monthly contributions. EMF mentioned that Q3 was all about cleaning up his portfolio. He sold 15 positions and started to put strength back in his portfolio by focusing on high quality positions, Also EMF enjoyed a strong growth in his year-over-year dividend income.

Listeners Questions:

This week we answered the below questions:

Andrew - I have been assessing Glaxosmithkline (GSK) and have opened a small position. What do you think of this as a good pharma purchase.

Danny - Thoughts on how Trump catching Covid might affect the presidential race along with the stock market ?

Centrino - $XOM : buy now for its high divi (oil is still there for many years) ? Or run away, because future is electric and gaz?

Letuscompound -  Thoughts on our favorite laggard Shell?    30 min rant from edgi please :)

Phil -  Is taxation a reason for you not to invest in something

Gerry Farrel - Any thoughts on Neste Oyj?  Neste Oyj is a Finland-based company engaged in the refining and marketing of petroleum and petroleum products

EP #14 - Portfolio Management

EP #14 - Portfolio Management

This week we had our Dividend Quiz Winner on the show to discuss portfolio management..

We started the show with Phil introducing himself and gave a brief background of his investment background

We followed this with some quickfire questions to help us get to know our guest a little better. There was one really tricky question in there and EDGI would not give Phil a free pass.

On the news of the week, EMF shared his thoughts on one of the Irish banks placing caps on savings and ponders what's to come down the road. will this be the catalyst for more people to get involved in investing?

https://www.independent.ie/business/personal-finance/ebs-is-the-first-bank-to-impose-a-cap-on-savings-39543742.html

eDGI shares his reflection on popcorn time with  Nikola and the fake it until you make it approach. As a passionate investor EDGI is keeping a keen eye on this story

Our Guest talked about an article on Bloomberg where wealthy families are taking companies/equity from the stock market again. If the wealthy are cashing out, than what is left in the pond for the rest of us

Main Topic:

The main topic was about portfolio management. We discuss How many Companies we  hold in our portfolio? How we ensure Sector allocation within our portfolio? How we track our portfolio performance? We also discuss how we manage the feeling of adding shiny new stocks to our portfolio.

Listener Questions:

Andrew Driver  -  I have a question for the Podcast, what are the presenters view or opinion on Investment Trusts, such as The City of London Investment Trust. This trust specializes in income and has a Dividend Yield of 5.87%. It has management costs cumulatively from what I can make out of 0.72% per year. I have also included there top holding below.

Stuart Hayes -  Considering the bearish direction of the market do you think more value will be got investing monthly or weekly? I'm currently putting 35 quid a week into a pie on Trading212. Thanks

The Wolf of Harcourt Street - What portfolio management tools (websites or apps) do you use outside of Excel or G Sheets?

RepStones - As the big fossil fuelers move into renewables, who do you favour to lead the pack? Also are there any straight renewable resource companies you'd invest in right now?

Check out the article from danny below https://medium.com/@DansInvestments/vestas-wind-systems-a-s-big-renewables-why-i-m-buying-9d028d2e85c7

Investment Talk™- What disruptive trends are you most bullish on? Examples: Payments, E-Commerce, US gambling, etc

EP #13 - Why savings rates matter

EP #13 - Why savings rates matter

This week we are discussing our savings rate and why saving rates matter.

We started the show with a brief reflection on the news of the week.

EMF shared his reflection on the news that Apple is making an update to the iOS 14 policy, which in practice will make it harder for game streaming services such as Google Stadia and Microsoft cloud to to upsell their services. This seems to be just another chapter in the “Epic” battles that Apple is fighting.

https://www.cnbc.com/2020/09/11/apple-app-store-new-rules-will-affect-google-stadia-microsoft-xcloud.html

eDGI share his reflection on Astrazeneca and the fact that they paused their clinical trial. The vaccine trial was paused because a woman in the United Kingdom experienced symptoms of a rare neurological disorder called transverse myelitis.

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/astrazeneca-covid-19-vaccine-trial-015441346.html

Main Topic:

The main topic was about our savings rates. Why does the savings rate matter to us as dividend growth investors? What were the biggest changes in our investing life that increased your savings rate? What savings rate are we aiming for? How does the savings rate impact your financial independence topic? What’s the savings rate rule of thumb? What savings ideas do we still have to act on?

EP #11 - Our Top 5 Portfolio holdings

EP #11 - Our Top 5 Portfolio holdings

We started the show by sharing our news of the week.

European DGI shares his reflection on United Airlines which considers to lay-off 2850 pilots if the US government doesn’t provide additional aid. eDGI is quite explicit in his opinion on this topic and criticizes the lack of leadership from their board of directors. Are airline stocks the new bankers?

https://cnb.cx/2D8xsBZ

EMF shares his reflection on the fact that Exxon Mobil dropped from the Dow Jones Index after 92 years! He also briefly touches on the topic of ethical investing and what it means for a company like Exxon.

https://bit.ly/2EBKM2C

Last but not least, EMF also shares his reflection on a recent blog post from Wealth Accumulated regarding inflation. What could this mean for our portfolio. Should we be in growth stocks, bonds or value stocks?

https://bit.ly/3jigals

Main Topic:

EMF discusses his top 5 portfolio holdings. He was a bit surprised by the amount of AT&T in his portfolio compared to the other holdings. He has also a high dependency on their dividend when looking at the total portfolio dividend income. For now it’s actually fine, because he’s still in the accumulation phase.

eDGI also discusses his portfolio holdings. His top 5 has both Microsoft and Apple in there. He didn’t invest a lot of capital into both stocks, but the recent tech rally just inflated his positions in both of them. It is also interesting to see that his top 5 of portfolio holdings by gross dividend income look almost entirely different. He briefly reflects on how he feels about it and he also shares his story about how he’s dealing with Omega Healthcare Investors.

Listener Questions:

We also addressed two listener questions.

Michael Griffin - How to recoup taxes from the french government for Danone?

You need to fill in a Form 5000 to confirm your residence status: http://www.ambafrance-uk.org/IMG/pdf_...

After that you can fill in the Form 5001 to get your withholding tax back: http://www.ambafrance-uk.org/IMG/pdf_...

Călin Ciurariu: what’s your thoughts on Inditex (parent of Zara/Bershka) and BMW?

Last but not least, we both shared our stock pick of the week. eDGI suggested to start buying a few shares every week in the spirit of Ian Lopuch and Dapper Dividends.
