My family, the Beckley Family has been meeting annually for 60+ years over the July 4th weekend.  We contract with a hotel in the host city, secure a block of rooms as well as event space.   Our attendance has been as many as 400 guests to as few as 110.  After being postponed for two years, we were able to gather in Milwaukee, WI.  In this bonus short of Don't Look Under The Bed I chat with my cousin Monique about her experience planning this family reunion and why it almost didn't happen

Niki and I discuss our lived experiences, where we are currently in our careers, if we should be further along based on of our years of service in the hospitality industry, and whose responsibility it is to get us to the next level.   A recent study published by the Castell Project, Inc. titled "Black Representation in Hospitality Leadership 2021",  states that Black Executives represented 1.6 percent of hospitality industry executives at the executive through CEO level on company websites in 2020.   One in 5.7 industry employees is Black compared to one of 49 Vice Presidents and one of 58 EVP/SVPs shown on websites. There has been progress however, Blacks in Hospitality leadership are still very much underrepresented when compared to other industries.  ABOUT THE CASTELL PROJECT Castell Project, Inc. is a 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated to the advancement of women to the highest levels within the hospitality industry. The cruising industry has been shut down for over a year...but guess WHAT??  They are back in business! Winter storm Uri pounced on Texas and brought with it snow, ice and unprecedented temperatures.
