The Emotional Roller Coaster of Cut-Off
If you've ever had to cut someone out of your life, you know the emotional rollercoaster that comes with it. We never hope to have to cut someone off emotionally. Sometimes its unavoidable but many times it is preventable. On this episode, Dr. Neal discusses the what, when, and why of emotional cutoff and how one can develop healthy relationships where cutoff is less likely.

The un-Fused Self
When we hear the word fusion, we usually don't associate it with our relationships but it plays a critical part in them. Dr. Neal discusses how fusion and group think contribute to an individual's sense of emotional and behavioral conformity that negatively impacts our desire to be emotionally independent and highly self-differentiated.

The Motivated Self: Finding the Path to Relational Satisfaction
It's often a struggle to find motivation to do well in interpersonal relationships. Extrinsic and Intrinsic motivators play a role in helping us find a path to rewarding relationships even when we don't believe we have the capacity to do.

The Differentiation of Self Inventory (DSI): Seeing Your Differentiated Self
Is there a way to measure Self-Differentiation? Of course there is and Dr. Neal walks us through the Differentiation of Self Inventory better known as the DSI. This self-taking inventory provides questions on a Likert scale instrument to help individuals assess where they are on the self-differentiation spectrum. The four categories of the DSI- Emotional Cut-off (EC) Emotional Reactivity (ER), Fusion with others (FO), and I-Position (IP) help individuals discover where they are emotionally in relations with family of origin members, spouses, and children but is also applicable for use in professional, organizational, and community relationship assessments.
