Season #2 with Emilie begins! Eric makes a return visit to the cottage, but its his first time with us as the new city administrator.

Before we dive into his new role, we start with him discussing the tragic officer involved January 21st shooting in Menomonie. At the time Eric was still the Chief of Police in Menomonie and gives us insight into the event.  What has happened since and the way the department has assisted the officers involved.

After which, we then delve into his move to the city administrator role, a position he was selected for in March. He takes us into the process of going for the position and his mindset as the selection drew closer.

How is the transition going?

He also touches on the topic of getting more single-family homes built in Menomonie.

While musicals have a long history at McDonell, plays are relatively new including the 2023 spring production of “The Inn Around the Corner” (April 27-29).

Lily and Frank are here to promote not only the production but the entire theatre program at McDonell.  Frank is a ’16 graduate of McDonell and has returned to be an English and Social Studies teacher.  However, his experience in theatre is extensive going all the way back to when he was a kid.  

He has helped spearheaded expanding the theatrical offerings at the school. 

Lily is a sophomore, and the spring play is her seventh production with the theatre program.  She started in the ensemble and has worked her way up the cast list over the years. What is it about acting that excites her and the way it has benefited her off stage.

Life on the road!  Noah Witte, a second year lighting technician with Stage Pro, takes into the life of a “support staffer” in the entertainment industry. 

How did Noah get this job, including going from graduation to “lighting” a ZZ Top Show within two weeks.

An active participant in a number of area projects, Chris joins the podcast to talk about the mural at River Prairie he has designed and brought to life.  He tells us all about the “Frank and Friends” mural while diving into his overall philosophy and artistic process. His handiwork is in a number of public spaces as well as businesses and residences around the region. The murals he has created have received praise and accolades by many.

Murals are simply “big paintings” and Chris gives us an interesting explanation of the physical work and unique challenges to bringing a mural to life.

Chris also brings the listeners inside the local “skateboarding culture” and his Passion Board Shop (opened in 2014). He is a lifelong resident of Eau Claire and has seen the growth and challenges and optimism over the last 25 years.  That includes fighting stereotypes.

The proactive approach he has taken with helping to design free public skate parks and the receptive audiences he is finding.

Frank Smoot joins the conversation to tell us about the building which will celebrate its Grand Opening in June. We also learn about the Chippewa County Historical Society and its history.
